If I came here and only tried the muffins, I would have given it one star. My friend and I agreed that the consistency of the muffins are just like the Vietnamese dessert, bánh bò, which you can find at your local Lee's Sandwich or Vietnamese food to-go store for probably 75%+ cheaper. The matcha one especially tasted like the Vietnamese dessert. When I brought it back for other friends, they all thought the Matcha Custard Muffin did not taste good. When we went to get boba and I couldn't decide between Matcha or Horchata, someone said "get horchata, the last time you got matcha it tasted bad" referring to the muffin. Now for the mochi donuts, I thought it was alright. I personally think the circular/"ball" mochi donuts by MoDo (and now many other bakeries) are better. They're crispier. I got Black Sesame and Maple Pecan and I really liked the Maple Pecan glaze. It was nice and sweet. The Black Sesame was okay, I think I've had better. The prices are quite high though. And the fact that they also don't list their prices anywhere... I found out the muffin was $3.75, the Maple Pecan donut was $3.25, and the Black Sesame was $3. That's ridiculous. Got recommended this bakery from a news article, and I loved the Asian influence on the pastries and desserts. The mochi texture of everything brought me back to my favorite childhood treats! Nothing was too sweet either, which is the hallmark of Asian dessert. I came at around 11:30 on Sunday, and there was no line and nothing seemed to be sold out yet. I decided to visit the actual bakery where they offered more flavors so I got to try even more! The drinks they offer here are also delicious and unique. I first tired this place at the 2019Coffee Festival in SF. It was delicious and I had to make a trip to the north bay and check out their official spot! Hee It's cute and little. No sitting areas outside, but there's some sort of restaurant on the corner that gets a lot of foot traffic. (I actually thought Third Culture was that spot as I drove by). Parking is only what's available on the street unless there was a parking lot around back that I missed. LOL I parked about two blocks away and walk down. It was easy enough for me. At their bakery they had so many more flavors of Mochi muffins and donuts then what they had at the coffee Festival it took me maybe five minutes to decide what I wanted! Thank goodness nobody was behind me! Hee The gentleman suggested I try one of their roasted Matcha iced lattes, Since I needed more time to look at the menu for the donuts/muffins. Third culture bakery has amazing mochi donuts and muffins!! They always have such unique seasonal flavors that are so fun to try and the staff is super sweet and provides great recommendations. I remember one time when I stopped by they had also partnered with a local ice creamery to make a special ice cream but they were only selling it by the pint. I'm a huge fan of mochill donuts but since I live in Berkeley, it's a little too far for me to get my mochi donut cravings satisfied so I gave third culture a try and oh boy did it not disappoint. These mochi muffins/donuts are different from mochill type of mochi donuts. They aren't as soft and a lot more bready than mochill so I don't want to compare the 2 but I love them both! + points to third culture because of the Indonesian pandan flavor included! Stopped by on a Saturday around 1030ish and let's just say others had the same idea as us! The lone may look long but that is just due to the social distancing for COVID so it's not as bad as it seems. Safety is a top priority at Third Culture. There are tape marks out the door to make spacing easy and safe. Then they only allow 2 groups inside the store. Maybe 3 if one is waiting off to the side. Masks are required and employees are wearing masks and gloves. This is my first mochi donut but I saw so many good things I had to jump in on the trend. I tried the passionfruit mango donut, guava cheesecake donut and black sesame muffin. Hands down the passionfruit mango donut was the best!! A little tart and super chewy! Amazing food, drinks and service! Third Culture is so popular lol. There was a line when we got there, social distancing + capacity limits probably added to the length. But it was all worth the wait! We basically got all the mochi donuts, ube, strawberry and regular mochi muffins and caramel banana bread pudding. Everything was so good!! My favorites were the mango passionfruit donut and the bread pudding. So moist and delicious. For drinks we got the caramel roasted matcha latte and the roasted matcha latte, both hot. Once I read that the roasted matcha is similar to a hojicha I was sold! I've been on the hunt for the perfect hojicha since Boba Guys no longer serves it and y'all, I have found it!!! Third Culture's roasted matcha has the roasted, nutty hojicha taste and is just fantastic. Sweetness is perfect. They have oatmilk. I can't say enough good things. I only wish it had boba haha. The woman helping us was so kind and patient as we excitedly ordered many things. I went on a Sunday around 11:20am and there was a line with seven people ahead of me. It moved fairly quickly; I was out with my order by 11:45. They had an orderly system that kept everyone socially distanced and a maximum of only two transactions at a time were handled in the store. The employees sprayed and wiped the entire counter area after each transaction. The lady who helped me was extremely nice and helpful. I told her it was my first time here and she explained everything and made helpful suggestions. She even offered to heat up muffins that I wanted to eat immediately. She carefully packaged the muffins in paper containers. The customer service was great and I never felt rushed or pressured. At home, I followed her instruction to heat the muffin for 10-15 sec. I got an assortment but started with the original. It was delicious! I suppose that the quality of the ingredients drives up the cost to make it $3.95 (12 for $48). Donuts are 12 for $18. It is definitely a bit expensive, but if you care about the quality and ethics of what you consume (as we should!), then it's certainly worth it. Thanks for the wonderful experience and tasty treats! This bakery has such a beautiful background and the owners are such down to earth human beings. The cafe itself has a very cozy ambiance and it smells amazing when you first walk in. Don't sleep on 3rd Culture's Mochi Waffles and Mochi Donuts! They both look and taste amazing! I've had a number of people ask me about my waffle orders and they were surprised it was on their menu the whole time. The waffles contains a consistent mix of the slightly chewy mochi within, while the exterior is nice and firm. The waffle is not too crispy, but it packs a boatload of flavorful toppings such as Chantilly Whip Cream and berries (Summer Berries flavor). They're difficult to eat on cardboard to-go box and plastic utensils so I suggest scarfing it down like a handheld open-faced sandwich! The mochi donuts are prepared Fridays and Saturdays. To my surprise, the "bite" of the donuts are slightly rich and very satisfying. The mochi donuts are unlike their muffins since they contain a less silky and egg-like texture. The donuts do not seem fried so they are guilt-free (from oil) and very tasty! While there is no seating inside, the establishment has the bakers working right in front of you (behind the cashier). Great bakery in Berkeley! They specialize in mochi-baked goods, meaning they use mochi flour. The pastries are very fluffy and there is a wide variety of flavors to choose from. Finally got to check this place out. I am mochi obsessed and this bakery did not let me down. I tried a variety of donuts and muffins but my faves were the ube muffin and the pandan donut. Ube was my least fave unfortunately, only because there wasn't a strong ube flavor. Also love that they have mochi donuts now, but it's only available Friday and Saturday. I've been looking for mochi donuts since I tried Mister Donut in Taiwan. Third Culture's are more dense than I'd like, but they're still good. My favorite is the black sesame because I just love anything sesame and it has a strong flavor. I've also tried matcha, maple pecan, ube coconut, yuzu lemon, mango passion fruit. I'm not a fan of the fruity flavored donuts as I don't think they complement the donut texture imo. Ube also just tasted like sugar glazed donut. Pretty color but the ube flavor didn't come through for me. Mochi waffles are great as well! I got the seasonal berry one which was loaded with blueberries and chantilly cream. I thought the cream tasted a bit like cereal milk (lol) but it was good. For drinks, I've tried the lychee matcha sparkler and matcha latte. The lychee one is very unique with beautiful colors. The matcha latte was ok, but it was a bit on the watery side, could be because they use rice milk for it. All in all really awesome place for desserts and drinks! Try this different twist on the usual beloved ring-shaped pastry: a butter mochi donut! Still maintaining a circular shape but solid all the way through with a chewy, soft & dense texture. What I really love are the selection of confectionary flavors that delicately glaze the tops of the donuts! They're the perfect amount of sweetness and you can really taste the flavor because the sugar doesn't overpower the glaze. I couldn't taste the pumpkin in the Caramel Pumpkin Roasted Matcha Latte but their roasted matcha was yummy. Tried this place over the weekend and was so excited to try mochi baked goods for the first time! I'd heard a lot about mochi donuts but I was very intrigued that the mochi muffin was their specialty. I tried the ube muffin, the strawberry muffin, the regular/original muffin, the savory cheese muffin, and the guava cheesecake donut. These things are delicious! I'm not a sweets person but these flavors were not super sugary sweet tasting - can taste the flavors via this incredible chewy, springy type texture of the muffins and donuts. Out of the flavors I tried, I liked the regular/original flavor the best, followed closely by the cheese muffin. There are also sweeter flavors available like the caramel ones. Definitely go muffin vs donut, donuts are good but muffin is best. I've been creeping on TCB's yelp and IG pages for quite some time, so I knew sweet temptation was soon to give in, and it did on 8/23. The flavors are so un-basic and super creative to top on a deliciously light and chewy donut. Mango passionfruit is probably my favorite. The flavor will surprise you as it is unexpected to taste that amazingly. Not super sweet either, and I could taste the authenticity in the fresh ingredients. Raspberry Lychee is another fave too! I love that TCB is minority owned and operated. Their IG page speaks volumes to their beliefs and their stance for equality. That seriously makes me enjoy these goodies even more. After trying mochi donuts I don't think I'll go back to eating regular donuts again.. On a Saturday afternoon there was a small line outside the door. Until I entered the doorway, I did not realize there's very little room for customers. Yet, you could see the entire process behind the goodie display and cashier. While I waiting I noticed how fast everyone worked, donuts and muffins came out every couple of minutes! I thought $3 was a lot for one donut but the quality and effort that's put into them makes the price reasonable. The quality of their baked goods are extraordinary. Each donut has the same consistency, chewy and soft. I was also surprised how their mochi donuts are dense but also light. And the glaze on top doesn't overpower the sweetness of the donut. My favorite flavor is the black sesame, soooooo good. I'm really happy that I found something that I could come back to, and I strongly recommend this place if you have the chance to visit. First captivated by their Mochi muffins at Asha and Boba Guys, I was pleased to find that Third Culture also hosts Brunch with the Founders on Sundays for ~$45 via Eventbrite. I would totally recommend doing this because it's an intimate setting with about 10 people total where the founders create 5 dishes for you to try. Each dish is inspired by their own lives and they tell you a story to share their experience with you. During the brunch we also had an exercise to send thank you cards to people in our lives to express gratitude and even mailed them out for us. Like how awesome is that? The founders also encouraged us to get to know our neighbors as we would be joining us on the food journey they were creating for us. It was also a great opportunity to get to know the founders and they are SO NICE ya'll. The brunch dishes included: + Savory porridge + Homemade dumplings + Rice + beef stew + Black Sesame mochi in a ginger soup + Coffee Ice Cream in a bread bun All dishes served were delicious and we felt stuffed after all courses. They paired so well with the stories they shared and really let us connect with the dishes. If you don't have a chance to make it out to one of their brunches in addition to their mochi muffins they also sell custard muffins (ube, matcha, churro), mochi waffles, and mochi donuts (raspberry, passionfruit, etc). I have seen so many reviews of this place and many of my fellow yelp elites have recommended that I try it out. This is pretty far from where I live but it was finally time that I made a trip out of it and went to go try it out. How I am so glad I did! I already know I wanted to try the burnt caramel matcha latte. You get to chose from almond, whole, or silk milk. It is nice they have different options! This tastes exactly like what it is called. I love how you got to watch them make the drink right in front of you. I ended up trying the mocha donuts and the mocha muffins. I graded the Thai tea, coconut ube, guava cheesecake, and passion fruit donuts. Then I also grabbed a matcha and black sesame mocha donut. OH WOW!! Everything so far has tasted amazing. I absolutely love third culture! It's probably one of my favorite places to grab breakfast, and I'm very lucky that it's within walking distance of my home. I can't recommend the Matcha latte with strawberry lychee enough, and I'm always excited to try their newest mochi muffins and mochi donuts, the staff are always really pleasant and friendly, and I love that the store feels like a pleasant brunch party, with fun, music, and lots of decoration. Finally made it to Third Culture's bakery location. They have limited hours, so make sure they're open when you visit! There was street parking out in front and walking out of the car, you can already smell the sweetness of baked goods in the air. I ordered 2 mochi muffins, 1 savory green onion and cheese scone, a mochi waffle, and a green tea latte. The mochi muffins are always delicious - I love the chewy texture and the light coconut-y flavor. The savory scone was a bit dry and salty, so it wasn't my fav. The green tea latte with honey and rice milk was also a disappointment, imo. The ice that they use melts super fast and my drink was quickly lukewarm. There was also way too much rice milk and not enough matcha - I wouldn't get this again. The star of the visit, however, was most definitely the mochi waffle served with their espresso whipped cream. I could easily eat their whipped cream straight from a bowl. The espresso flavor was strong and was a nice complement to the hot and crispy waffle...yum! Everyone here was super friendly. I was so excited I got all the flavors! Honestly each mochi donut was made extremely well, not too sweet and great chewy texture. I especially liked how there were little details on some of them (sesame seeds on the black sesame and a dried jasmine flower on the jasmine milk tea one). I also tried the original mochi muffin which is a must try if you go there! Overall great service, fast, friendly and I will definitely come back when I get the chance! read more

There was a line but went pretty quickly. I picked up an assortment of muffins and doughnuts. Everything was pretty good and the texture was light and fluffy but dense at the same time. My favorite flavors were the yuzu doughnut and the hoicha doughnut. There's plenty of street parking in the area. read more
