Third Window Brewing - We hydrated - Breweries Near Me - Santa Barbara, California

4-star beer, 5-star ambiance. This is the most impressive and promising brewery in Santa Barbara. Inside they have a high ceiling, exposed wood rafters and black underlayment with an array of chalkboard panels for the tap list. It looks like the tap list changes by switching out these large panels, which give you the beer name and its essential characteristics like IBUs, ABV, style, volume poured. The list looked inspired with a range of styles from sours, Berliners, stouts, pilsners, and IPAs. They offer very nice tasting flights, which our group did. You grab a draft list and just tick the ones you want to try. This system takes a lot of work and annoyance out of the process - a great idea. The beer quality was a bit all over the place, which is expected from a new brewery. However, some showed a lot of promise and I think Third Window has what it takes to improve their recipes. Detailed notes are below. I ended up liking their pilsner, The Light, the best and got it in a large format mug pour. Pretzels and popcorn are available, which is a nice touch. Dog friendly interior is a huge bonus as well. ~~~~~~~~~ Extra feedback for beer nerds and the brewery: The Light 1.1 This was an outstanding German style pilsner with a bright lemon lime nose with beautiful citrus zestiness. Hefty carbonation and brilliant clarity much appreciated. The flavor was dry and a tad powdery, but the finish was neutral and refreshing. This was my absolute favorite of the beers I tried so I got a large pour in a giant mug. Brett Saison Looking beautiful in the glass, glowing neon yellow with generous carbonation. The aroma is sawdust, barn, candied mango. The flavor is bubbly, neautral, and very dry but not abrasive. Refreshing, though a tad washed out in the flavor. Rakau Welch Looking identical to the Brett saison but with a more impressive aroma with fresh corn grits, lemongrass, dill, fennel, oregano - super herbal. The flavor is dry, neutral, refreshing. The farmyard character of saison is spot on here. Simple, dry, but not abrasive. Xexo Super dry for an IPA that wants to deliver sticky caramel aromas and flavor, but the palate is way too washed out and the bitterness becomes abrasive. Needed some work. The ÖKO BOMB Inky black in color, but much too thin a body for stout. The nose is savory chocolate mousse, big raisin, chocolate covered raisin. But the flavor is too dry and moves to grape soda, grape cough syrup and tootsie roll. Executioner's Daughter Clear amber in color. This one had intense vinegar (acetic acid) and nail polish remover (ethyl acetate) in the nose. Taste is very nice, however, with cinnamon, mild sugar, dark bread, banana nut bran muffin. Great mouthfeel. The Origin 2016 This was billed as a dry-hopped APA, but the aroma was sticky with thick caramel and butterscotch. The flavor was watery and bland. Overall, it seemed dead and not what was intended. read more

I had this place in my list to visit because of when I had one of their beers at Stout Burger and Beers. When we visited they had a pretty good list of beers going and some guest taps. It's one of the few breweries I have been to where the flight price is reasonable over the full pour cost. I quickly put together a flight and was able to try a couple I would never have otherwise. Nothing was as good as the one I had previously but I still enjoyed them all. It's a great space to hang out for a bit. Service was quick and friendly. They're also dog friendly which was great. Great beer and great atmosphere! I've been coming here for years now, and I love their beer and the outdoor seating. I've had most of their beers including the saison, Belgian blonde, oatey mcoatface, and more, and they're all very good! They also usually have an Apiary mead on tap, which is nice! They have TVs and a big projector, so it's also a good spot to watch games. It's also family friendly and dog friendly! It's definitely worth a visit! read more

I would say Third Window is probably mine and Ryan's favorite brewery in SB! The atmosphere is great, think laid back and cozy but without the couches. They make some great stouts, some Belgian style beers that i havent really seen else where and their food is great! I love the location- right next to a winery and that little courtyard is so cute. I got a thing for triangles and the napkin holder/utensil holder thing is a wooden triangle and they have a huge triangle mirror hanging...so i'm pretty much hooked. I came up 8/13 from LA on a day trip, scoped out all the breweries, and chose this place as they have tons of saisons and Belgians. After lunch my girlfriend, friend, and I headed over here to only find it closed for a day event. Ahead of time I had checked their site, Yelp, and google which all said they were open. I understand there are special events, but I never saw anything stating other than they were "open". I was really disappointed that I wasn't able to try anything and had to go to another brewery that was actually open, but was only mediocre. There should be something else shaking they will be closed for a special event other than a couple signs when you pull up to the parking lot so people don't waste their time. Hoping to have a chance in the future to make up for it if I am in the area. read more

I sat at the bar and after looking over everything they had went with the Chaparral and I thought it was just okay, nothing to write home about. This local Santa Barbarian is always being surprised by our amazing restaurants and this particular brewery is just one of those places where they brew the beer, food is delicious and the atmosphere is almost all outdoors with beautiful trees & plants strategically placed along with their tables to keep social distance. Friendly staff just adds to the experience and what also is surprising is that it's been around for several years! While at Potek we noticed Third Windows doors were open so we went in and talked with Christopher Parker the CEO of Third Window Brewery. I was excited to hear that in a couple of weeks they will be open for business! There is beer brewing in their vats and several beers are almost ready to release! They have 27 taps and his goal is to serve 27 beers. Talk about keeping a lot of plates spinning at the same time! I was so glad to hear that this brewery will be such a compliment our beloved Figueroa Mountain a few blocks away. While Fig is such a talented IPA house, Third Window is taking things a different direction. It promises to offer several Belgium style beers at any given time! We enjoyed visiting with Christopher and certainly enjoyed that he opened a very special bottle for us! It is his friend and partners beer brewed in Ontario. A 750ml, Bourbon Aged bottle with 15.9%. It re-defined what a great Bourbon barrel beer should taste like. Heaven in a bottle. read more

You go some place all the time and you take for granted how great it really is. The expectation is high and you're never disappointed. That's how I feel about Third Window Brewing. I don't live in the area, but I pass through once a month. Good thing or I'd probably be there more than I should. Their recently released batch of Belgian dubbel is probably the best ever. Dark fruit and malt flavors dominate. Wish I had bought more to go bottles already. The food is a highlight as well. Yesterday was wood fired pizza night and it was amazing. I've been there for smash burgers and those are to die for as well. The third thing and most important is the service. You will never see more engage owners. Chris and his wife are hustling behind the scenes making it happen. If you're fortunate enough to be helped by Austin, you will know why I'm raving about the customer service. This brewery just opened and as I've been to quite a few breweries now (courtesy of my boyfriend), this brewery is pretty good. They do your basic lagers, saisons, and berliner weisser but they do all of them VERY well. A flight for 5 beers is currently $10 and it is a pretty good deal for good beer. The location of this place is WONDERFUL. It is a big open place with a lot of seating and a really cool vibe! There is cool artwork and romantic string lights hung up and extra seating in the courtyard. Across the courtyard there is a diner with very good food that will deliver over to your table. I would definitely recommend anyone to visit this brewery, and I can't wait to see what other exciting brews they come up with! read more

You just have to love Third Window. You don't always want to but you just have to love what they've done in that amazing little space. The love comes because you just never know what the heck they are going to have on the board at any given time. OK you're definitely going to find a bunch of Belgian and German influenced beers, that's a given but it's the odd beer out that usually gets my attention. I'm not sure if they can actually pull off a good malty English or Scottish beer yet but who cares, I'm loving what they're doing and I know where I can get the latter :-) your best bet is to get the sausage sampler from wildwood across the courtyard and dive in at 3rd window. A ways from the Funk Zone, but probably more worth a visit than anything there! It's insanely hip, with high ceilings, a huge patio, and long, spacious bar. It'd be a really fun spot for a large group, even more so than Fig Mountain or Topa Topa. Skip the Funk Zone; come here. Really extensive beer menu (plus free pretzels and mustard, so...). There's a cool winery next door, too, with a semi-shared patio area, so there's something for everyone. Bring all your friends and get over to this place ASAP! read more

We use to love to come here but today we received the worst service and won't be coming back. There was only one bartender who clearly was feeling overworked and frustrated. This brewery has a lot of space inside and out and it shares a courtyard with the restaurant. We actually were pretty confused looking for it and walked right on by since it's actually at the Mill. Once we get in it was pretty quiet on a gloomy day. We sat in the back patio which has a nice secret garden feel. I just didn't particularly care for the beers I tried.
