So much to love here at the new Validation Annex. Both the food and beer menus have something for everyone. And their spacious indoor and outdoor dining spaces are very comfortable. Thanks Matt and Kaity for keeping us all fed with your delicious menu items, and thanks Keegan for the excellent food recommendations and service. Can't say enough about how much we enjoy both the Fried Chicken Sando and the Spicy Chicken Sando. And complimented with their Karaage Nuggies and Trufallo Cauliflower . . . delicious! They also have a nice Pizza selection, both pies and by the slice. Perfect. And yes, their beer selection is incredible. We always try something different, and the servers are best at making sure everything is served nice and cold. Right now my favorite is their Honey Blonde. Refreshing and delicious. read more

With plenty of parking in the Upper State / San Roque area, we don't have to circle around the funk zone to enjoy some of the best beer in town, the food here is great too , I find the smashburger delicious , chicken sandwich is a good option too, fries are perfect but you can add cheese too Overall a great spot , they have tvs if you are watching sports and the best part : very dog friendly . The employees are personable/customer service oriented and I loved sitting out on the deck in the sun. The person I was with just wanted cheese pizza, so we split it and I felt it was pretty dry. I've heard raving reviews about the pizza, but maybe I just need to try one with multiple toppings; they sounded delicious. The establishment gets a lot of natural light and is welcoming. They also host trivia on some nights. read more

We stoped by on a lovely afternoon and sat on the patio. We had a few bites to eat and all were very tasty. Wings, Philly sando, truffle fries. Homemade ranch and blue cheese were bomb. Easy to order up at the bar. Lots of beer choices. Also I like the bathroom situation. It's all single toilets with a main washroom. Seems like a great new place to hang out. I came here this past weekend and I had a great experience! Our bartender was Laura and she was so awesome and so knowledgeable on what was on tap! (Don't come for me, I can be a little indecisive when it comes to beer) She was able to help me out and find out the perfect drink for me. Wow! I ordered a smash burger to share and wow! So excited to have a new open air casual food and drink spot in our neighborhood! So far I've only tried the pizza and it was tastey. Service and atmosphere have been great! I would like to see them get some more breakfast drinks for 10am games (mimosa/ michelada) and nonalcoholic drink options (without stevia). Great craft beer place - and the majority of great tasting beers are GLUTEN FREE. Yes, you read that right. I love craft beer and I could not tell it was gluten free at all! The food menu was varied and I enjoyed the truffle cauliflower with buffalo sauce and bleu cheese. It was amazing! Came back here again after our bartender Andrew from a couple of visits ago, recommended to come by during Burger week. It was so busy! I brought friends over with me. Some of them wanted the sauce on the side and Andrew was there to help us, since my friends never had their food and drinks before (and they were really picky, sorry). He was very helpful and kind. The place was a madhouse! Brought the kids Saturday for a second time and Andrew gave us food and drink options for the kids. Ambiance was great. Andrew was running around the whole place, cleaning tables, bringing food and drinks to everyone, he was everywhere! He is very knowledgeable with the drinks and food. Welcoming and funny too. We ate at Validation Ale on a Saturday noon enjoying beer and a smash burger & fries which we shared. We had a friendly waitress named Bailey who welcomed us & was most helpful. We returned on a Sunday evening and it was very noisy. Better to go during the day, especially for seniors. read more

Validation Annex is the newest location of Validation Ale, a craft brewery restaurant with a unique concept that engages customers in decided what is brewed next. Validated beer is pit agains a new Vying recipe of similar type to see if the new brew should take over as the primary tap. The space is more handsome than most expect for a local brewery with curved walnut panels, massive doors and windows, and clean modern restrooms. And because no one likes fighting for a bartender’s attention, Validation Ale allows you to start, manage, and/or close your tab by using one of the QR codes on the bar and tables. You order at the bar and then seat yourself with a number where staff will bring your food. We got the original smashburger ($10.70) and large fries ($6.50). The burger comes with a side of pickles and has two patties inside. The fries come with two sauces. We chose the special sauce and chipotle aioli. Both sauces were delish with the fries! And the burger was amazing- crispy edges to the patty and juicy center with the brioche bun and pickles. I highly recommend.

We went in for happy hour and ordered just about everything on the menu because the tapas selection is where it is at. I realized we ordered every single one; we couldn't help it because everything we tried was spectacular! The absolute standouts that we kept ordering over and over again were the Elote Cups, which are essentially esquites served in a clever, edible tortilla bowl, the Bacon Poppers, which are cream cheese-stuffed jalapeños wrapped in crispy bacon, and the Riding a Pig, which is smoky BBQ pork with a perfect, crunchy slaw served on bread. Since we had been wine tasting all day, I switched over to a few rounds of their refreshing sangria, while my husband stuck to their beer and absolutely loved the unique craft selection they have on tap. As a huge bonus for pup parents, even though we did not have our dog with us this time, Santa Barbara is incredibly pet-friendly, and this place goes above and beyond. I haven't had any complaints about service, they're usually communicative and will get to you as quick as possible. There are paid parking lots nearby (free after 12a and free street parking nearby). I'd come with friends when they hosted bingo nights and when they have happy hour. During the bingo nights, you have the opportunity to win free drinks and some other prizes. For drinks, I highly recommend the tangerine spritz, Jamaican 10 speed, scooby snack shooter, or the red sangria!

Look, my dad and I usually love this pub. The staff is amazing, the service is great, and we weren't even out on the patio--we were inside, minding our own business. I was doing my absolute favorite thing in the world (lounging on my little belly flat against the glorious, cold concrete floor), and Dad had just teed off on a $13 round?! of Golden Tee. Life was good. Until this brewery suddenly turned into a free-range daycare for negligent parents. Right in the middle of Dad's game, two completely unattended toddlers (maybe two or three years old, one heavily drooling, neither answering to actual human names) wandered over to us. They had clearly never seen a dog before. Now, luckily for everyone involved, I am a literal saint of a pup. I am sweet, patient, and wouldn't hurt a fly. But leaving tiny, clueless kids to wander solo around a busy brewery for ten whole minutes is a massive liability. Since their actual parents were completely missing in action, Dad's premium gaming time was totally interrupted. He had to step in as an emergency, unpaid babysitter to keep these kids safe while I sacrificed my peaceful concrete belly-time. When the "parents" finally decided to grace us with their presence, my dad dared to ask the million-dollar question: Where were you, and why aren't you watching your kids? Instead of thanking my dad for keeping their children alive and protecting the bar from a lawsuit, these absolute champions of bad parenting threw a temper tantrum, snapped at him, and somehow managed to get my dad kicked out. And management actually listened to them! We love the staff, but rewarding atrocious parenting while booting a loyal regular (and ruining his Golden Tee run) is a terrible look. Dad and I will be taking our talents--and my impeccable behavior--somewhere that actually respects cold concrete and peace of mind. I'm especially bummed because I know Dad is going to seriously miss his favorite coffee ale for the time being.
