Love this bar. It's all the best parts of a dive with none of the worst (minus the bathroom. Good lord, their bathrooms are dank). The beers are cheap, the bartenders and bouncers are all super friendly. The only bar that I'd ever feel comfortable going to alone and having a beer. You might show up alone, but you'll never feel alone. Great bar overall. Don't come here expecting to be amazed, just come to have fun and you will. I love this place. "The coldest beer in town!" The food is excellent and at a great price. The staff is friendly and there is no bullshit. The Thirsty Isle is just a dive bar and it makes no pretensions to be anything else and that is why I love it. It has pool tables and shuffleboard and TVs. I love T.I but its not the same. Food is gross. The Mexican bros. That ran that kitchen made T.I. awesome idk what fallout they may have had but them dudes would whip up the best guac best tacos, burgers ,wings, hell even corn beef. The new guy sucks. Burnt burgers and the hot wings suck. The speakers in the pool area are disconnectedmost of the time. I went from dropping 120 bucks a visit to just 60. The other 60 was food and music. I have lived here for 21 years and drove by The thirsty isle with looks of contempt...even though my mother told me not to judge a book by it's cover sooo even though I felt intimidated by the customers that smoke outside of this vicinity, when my son started to frequent Poly Football games at vet stadium, my husband and friends have been meeting at the Thirsty Isle pre game...the burgers are delicious and the french fries too. Plus they really do have the coldest beer in town! Kids are welcome (not that it is a perfect setting for them and they are few and far between) but in a pinch it's nice ot know they are welcome if their friends are arriving late to the game...Sooo Friday nights...burgers and beer at the Thirsty Isle and football at Vets! I love this place because its a relaxed atmosphere, great beer, and amazing food! Sometimes I want to go and just get a bite to eat but I know I'll end up staying for hours drinking a beer and watching the game! Only one thing sucks about this place: the bathrooms! There was even one big huge nasty dead cockroach in the girls bathroom and I asked if anyone...ANYONE working there could just sweep it out of the door because it was freaking me out and all I got in response was, "Ew no I'm not doing it!" Definitely one of the best burger/fries combos in Long Beach. If you order the nachos, you better have at least 2 or 3 friends to help you consume it. Add to this the choice of several ice cold draft beers, and you have a superb lunch. This dive bar is joke! The owner also owns Brien O'conners at few blocks away! I was going there for more than three years for at least three times a week for lunch (food is good) until my last visit. After having my salad I noticed the forks which I was eating with was unwashed and contaminated with dry cheese from last patron. After being grossed out and complain about the service instead of their apology, I've been 86 from both places! Not that I care, perhaps that is why they call it dive (dump) bar and I shouldn't expect more but I share my experience with those who care as where should spend their money! read more

This is my spot, f*** all the other reviews about theres no soap, the toilets arent clean and other bullsh$$. Its a dive bar idiot... theres cheap and really cold beer! Pool tables to entertain your drunkness and food!!! Wings are excellent and burgers are a must. If you look at it as a dive bar then your getting more then you should expect from a typical dive. It's not a classy nightclub, its a come through with your friends and just chill place and thats what keeps me coming back for at least a few years now. After college, grab a cold one. Bored at home? Grab a cold one. Not to mention its budget friendly. The food and beer is cheap as hell and schooners are on point, with a good selection of light beer, IPA, guiness, flat tire, blue moon (with the orange), 805 firestone, lagunitas, sierra nevada torpedo. Etc.... basically just come through and check it out hahahah. You wont regret it... unless a cheap dive bar isn't good enough for your high and mighty standards. I've only been to Thirsty Isle three times, but I'm a regular now. I have no problems or complaints and that's saying a lot. Happy Hour is great but I'll happily go there any other time for the ice cold beer.. yum.. I have yet to sample the food. Been there a hand full of times and never really liked it. The beer was not cheap. Dont get me wrong I could afford to drinks there it was like stopping into a random bar and maybe being a dollar or two less....... Maybe? The schooners were often not cold! I usually have to wait a while till the bartenders even notice me. I guess I need boobs huh? I really got annoyed with the benches. I am as gutter punk as the next guy but I felt like I was going to get a splinter in my a55 a couple a times.... it was cool for the pool tables and the punching machine.... I keep bashing the shite outta that thing with my friend! The food was amazing though. It is good greasy nacho/chilli cheese fries and more... I am not joking though they were delicious... and the bouncer could care less if he see's you ID apparently because I forgot my license the first time and dam did I not worry the second. I went here to join my friends birthday get together, Right from the get go it was a clear sign of a bad idea, I walked straight to the bar to get a cold one there was a girl ordering another round, besides the girl I was the only one standing there and the bar tender chick was pretty much acting like I was invisible! Since I was the only other person waiting for a drink common sense is to ask me what I want to drink Then two bros walk up and she greets them right away, bros had the common decency to say to me "hey weren't here first" I was cool about it and said "go ahead and order" then you would think ok im next specially when I was supposed to be after the girl who ordered another round, It's pretty twisted as the bartender chick asked me what do i want to drink after the bros, I said "I'll take a blue moon" as I am Standing there with my $20 in hand ready to leave a great tip she is pouring my drink and at that moment this dude who's clearly a "local" who's already had at least two or three rounds Cuts me off and the funny thing is there's not even a line to cut me off but he slides in halfway into the bar area she looks at him as she is pouring my drink! and says you want another heff he says yeah, I'm standing there with my 20, getting ready to hand her the 20 because that's my drink! she puts it down slides it pass me and gives it to the "local" I Literally reached out for it Thinking she was going to hand it to me but NOPE. That was strike two and three right there buddy! She finally pours me a drink I don't know why but I still left at 2 dollar tip, I only stood there to finish that beer because it was my friends birthday but after that beer, I left. Moral of this review is to not go there if you're not a local. Its bad business And I hope the owner reads this review because I could've bought everybody in that bar a round on me because my money can buy the whole bar, but she (bartender chick) is picking and choosing who to treat right and that is wrong! read more
