Recent bartending hire Hannah was extremely attentive and cordial, probably offered the best bar service we have ever had at Thirsty Monk Biltmore Park. Many previous visits with two working bartenders did not provide Hannah's level of service with a similar amount of customers! She was also very knowledgable of the beer selection and provided friendly conversation as she worked. The place is quite clean. The appetizer we ordered came out promptly and was tasty. I will acknowledge that I should have known better than to order Greek food at a brewery, but seriously I'm not sure what those flattened disk looking bits were; it said lamb, I'm still confused, and not edible. Everything was delicious and the service exceptional. As others have commented, the Avataco is amazing as was the Thai Pork taco. Frites, soft pretzel with mustard as our sides were so good. Yes the beers can be expensive but you have to look at what you are getting. This is not a bar which can rely on moving volume of bud light. They are not hipsters (as indicated by the location) but provide a plethora of craft beers. The food is great. The service is hit or miss. Food prices are on par with Asheville. If you are looking to tap the Rockies (ain't nothing wrong with that), then check out the tavern about a football field away. read more

Having gone to a couple local breweries and experiencing snob employees, I was expecting the same at Thirsty Monk. The bar staff here was actually very friendly and attentive. The bar tender that served us was patient in explaining the beer types and knew just what to suggest. The food was delicious also. We will be back for more great service! read more

This might be an oxymoron or it might be unintentionally ironic, but I hate negativity. I hate negativity so much that I've never written a negative review on Yelp or anywhere else for that matter. But my trip to the Thirsty Monk in Biltmore Park was atrocious and definitely warrants one It was last Sunday when I walked in for a quick drink and to maybe catch the NBA finals. By Initial appearances the place seemed moderately busy. Nothing crazy either way except there was one lady to wait on the entire inside bar and outside patio. Seems like a risk to take in the restaurant industry on a Sunday, in the summer, at a place with a cool patio. After sitting there for 15 minutes with not even a greet(a "hi, be right with you" would have done wonders) I took notice of the dishes that were covering the bar and other guests being neglected. I lost sympathy for the solo bar tender/waiter/manager when her top speed of operation was a mixture of indifference and 0 f**ks to be given. The cherry on top was the lack of pricing for spirits on the many menus laying on the bar. I knew I wasn't going to get much out of this server(?) so I order a double whiskey(deviant Bc it's local) and told my server to run my card. My total?? $25.0 for a deviant double. You might say that's my bad. Ok, maybe. But I wasn't about to ask my server?/bartender? the various prices on whiskeys when a greet and a water was a chore. Severely disappointed. I've always had issues with Thirsty Monks hospitality or lack of. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment but I always try to swing by and see if it has ever gotten better. Really enjoyed lunch here after a hike in Pisgah. Great beer selection, nice atmosphere and friendly staff that knows their beer. Jerk chicken tacos and salmon tacos were excellent and the bratwurst was delicious, and I'm a bratwurst snob. Went to the Thirsty Monk location at Town Square Blvd in Asheville on a Friday. At first glance, it appeared to be the perfect spot for dinner and a beer with friends. The outdoor seating was mostly full so we sat inside. It was ICE cold inside but there were lots of seats. Ordering had to be done at the bar (there was no wait staff); the bar staff appeared short handed and on top of that, those that were there were extremely slow. We had several questions--basic questions about both food and drink and none could be answered immediately but a slow stroll to the kitchen and back to get the answer. They were out of multiple NA beers, ciders and the ice tea maker was out of order (NO ICE TEA ON A HOT DAY IN THE SOUTH?!) so our DD had really no choices. The food ordered was just ok-the bacon appetizer was ice cold and small. burgers were good but the tacos were not. All in all a disappointing visit and we wont return on our next visit to Asheville! read more

Such a wonderful experience! After reading that this place wasn't good for kids, we were hesitant to visit with our toddler in tow. But thanks to the kind bartender, he was entertained by a borrowed bag of toys and crayons, which allowed my husband and I to enjoy a couple flights of beer, tacos, and the Mediterranean pizza - all outstanding! My favorite beers were the coconut porter, cherry gose, and the Belgian tripel. Excellent service and a fun, laid back themed atmosphere. Highly recommended! read more

Love this place! They've got a really good sized beer menu and the food is good too. One their busy nights they can be a bit slow to come take your order so you'll need to go up to the bar and order your food and drinks. Other than that, I don't really have any complaints. read more

Different place...self serve...but the food was very good burger, Tocos and salads...very fresh home made and cooked to perfection...we were driving g so we didn't sample the beer it not sure looked good. We jumped off the highway for quick dinner and this fit perfect. Will be stopping again and this time hope to sample the beer as well. read more

Had a flight consisting of Figboot, CocoNorm, Monk in Black, and a Thunderstuck (from Highland). Tried a beer brat and a pork taco, in retrospect I wanted the bacon and should have just gone for that instead. Next time. So, what was odd was they were advertising a beer, I think it was a bourbon barrel stout, yet they were out. It was killing me to see the ad on a tv screen yet not being able to even try it. I loved this! I didn't know you guys were here!?! Meeting a friend for a movie, got here early and was going to another food/beer place and say the store front...problem solved! Ample bar seating, tables, and a good draft list. I also enjoyed the fish and chips. I work next to Thirsty Monk and we've made it a ritual to grab beers there on Friday afternoons. If you aren't a local this is a great place to go if you're looking for a good draft beer selection and pub food. The bartenders on staff make great suggestions if you're looking to try something new or aren't a seasoned craft beer drinker. It's in a great location that has outdoor events throughout the summer. Great find in Biltmore Park. Awesome beer selection and a low key - feel free to hang all night atmosphere. We had the pretzels (yum!) & pint of bacon to start. Beer selection was great, food was good, service was terrible. I usually sit at the bar because service is usually better 99.9% of the the time. This was the exception. It was like I wasn't even there. I had to ask for for everything. After looking at the menu for 5-10 minutes putting it down. I still had to ask to place an order another 10 minutes later. When I wanted a glass of water had to ask. After it sat empty for 10 minutes asked to be refilled. You could have the best food and drink but if service falters then what is the point. read more

Their own brew selection keeps growing, and I enjoyed a weedeater wit along with a St Norm hopped tripel. Both of mine were easy to drink and delightful. My honey had the Thirsty Monk/Oskar Blues Trolley Crawl Belgian IPA, which he soured on after a few tastes; I enjoyed my couple of sips. He really like his Founder's double trouble, and it seemed deceptively drinkable given its abv. The food menu has also improved since my last dining experience last year with more vegetarian options like the fried tofu wrap and a falafel sandwich. I did the wrap, and it was filling and tasty with just enough heat from the spicy aioli. The arugula salad came with apples rather than the listed grapes, but it was a good portion and yum. The brisket taco was a hearty portion as were the hot wings. Service was good on a mid-afternoon visit, but we were three out of maybe eight other patrons. They run great specials like $1 off certain NC pours and of course pint night where you keep the glass. The Biltmore Park location is family friendly during lunch through late afternoon hours. read more

Dissapointing. Our waiter asked if he could get me anything and I said that I wanted a pumpkin beer but didn't know which one and asked if he could help me. He immediately says he's too busy to be getting me any samples of stuff so if I wanted them I needed to go to the bar and get them myself. The entire table was stunned at the rudeness. I chose not to spend any more money. Unfortunately for him, I had planned to get a beer, my husband was going to get another one, and our friends were going to get more. We ALL decided not to spend any more money that night because of his rudeness. Please train your waitstaff on how to talk to customers. I won't be back. read more

Came here for a drink and some food before the movies and the food was absolutely terrible. I've heard wonderful things about the downtown location so I figured I'd give it a shot. I got the nachos and I'm almost pretty sure that the cheese they used was cheese Wiz and the pico was clearly store bought and premade and the black beans were from a can. My friend got a burger and fries and it tasted like a burger from McDonald's but 4x the price. I'm also a vegetarian and asked if I could get the cheese quesadilla which was listed on the kids menu (told them I would pay more for it) and was told "absolutely not" moral of the story: good for a pre movie drink but do not get food here. read more

I stopped here while I was visiting the area. It is in a good area with shops and movies nearby. They have their own craft beers which was nice but at the same time if you haven't been there before it is difficult to choose one. But the bartender was very helpful and gave us many samples which was also nice. The food is pretty good too. Not a huge selection but typical bar food. I'd come back for sure. We had a great trip to Asheville and were looking for a great last evening. We saw a Thirsty Monk in downtown and thought we would try it near our Hilton Hotel in the (kinda far) from the Biltmore. We were in a good mood when we arrived, but a little cold. The staff helpfully offered us one of the "speakeasy" private rooms for warmth, but we opted for a place in the main room because we wanted to be with people. We were in a good mood. When they asked us what we wanted to drink, I said I wanted a good IPA that was not high in alcohol content and he suggested a GreenFlash IPA. My wife told him she liked Miller Lite and he suggested the most expensive beer on the menu without telling us the price. He brought her a 7.5 ounce glass that was $7 without mentioning the price (which is NOT indicated on the menu) and when we saw how little it was and asked how much it was we were surprised. It turned our whole mood sour and I wish we never walked into the place. We had gone out of our way to visit and our mood turned sour in such a short time. I think everyone should have a good time in Asheville and I am sorry that we had such a negative last night here based on the service. Really, my wife wanted a Mlller Lite and he offered her the most expensive item on the menu and only 7.5 ounces to boot. Our waiter knew we were upset and he did not even offer to comp her one beer. About what you expect from a local brewery's second location which is situated in the new Biltmore Park. The beer selection is just as good as the downtown location and has the pub style menu has a nice variety. My wife and I had the Mediterranean flat bread pizza which has a nice pesto sauce and goat cheese. There is a kids menu available upon request but is limited in selection to a pita cheese pizza, PB&J, or grilled cheese. We sat outside as it was a nice evening but it is seat yourself on the picnic tables. Service was slow on this Friday evening and they even forgot to add a couple items to the bill, we did point it out while paying. The bathrooms are only single stall so expect to wait 10 minutes for one on a busy evening. Overall not bad, but nothing that makes me want to take the family back out here. Another awkward thing is you initially order at the bar in between everyone seated there trying to enjoy their meal or beer, for as many tables inside and outside a hostess should be added to help the flow. read more

I was shocked that yet another Brewpub in Asheville would be so mediocre. I ordered the fish tacos and they were sad to say the least. The amount of flounder in the taco was ridiculous. I had to use the light on my phone to find it. But the worst thing about this place was the service. This place is sort of a mess most of the time. Their prices are the highest ones of all the bar/eateries in Biltmore Park, and frankly they don't really offer much that any of the other establishments here don't also offer. A large beer selection isn't at all unique for asheville any more. I've never had good service here from a table waiter or waitress. My advice: sit at the bar, enjoy your $6 beer, and move along to another place. read more

We decided to go to the Biltmore Park location the weekend we were in Asheville because it was super crowded downtown and hard to find parking. I had read mixed reviews about this location, but we decided to go anyway and we were super glad we did. We sat at the bar and the bartender was super friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the beers. The food was great pub food - I got a burger and my husband got the gyro - both were delicious. The service was fast and we were in and out quickly, which was great because our dog was sleeping in the car (it way too cold to sit outside with her). They have other beers besides their own, which one of the locals we had spoke to didn't like, but we were glad because we didn't get to every brewery and this gave us a chance to try more. I got a flight to try all the pumpkin ones they had on tap. Thirsty Monk has their own beer called "Must Love Coconuts IPA" and it was probably one of the best beers I had tasted all weekend. I love coconut and it was seriously so delicious. I hope I can find that here in Raleigh! If you like coconut, definitely try this beer if you go! This would definitely be a regular spot of ours if we lived closer... we would definitely go back! read more
