Drinks 4/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 This is such a great little gem in a gem of a hotel. On the 7th floor, this cozy speakeasy is a lot of fun. We walked in late at around 11 pm. Two other couples were at the bar having a great time with the amazing bartender. The bartender worked and talked like she actually enjoyed her job. That's hard to find these days. Also, when the hours say until close, I believe the bartender was ready to work until we were done. We didn't feel forced to finish up at all. The drink menus are massive and I mean massive. My first drink was a "New Rum Fashioned" which was a 3/5 for me. A little too sweet and muddled. My second drink was a 5/5. I can't remember the exact name but it was a mix between a Bloody Mary and a margarita. I can wait to go back again and try some more of the wild drinks. read more

Speakeasy ! 7th floor of hotel in downtown Reno . Currently only open on Fridays and Saturdays 5pm-10pm. I checked this place out based on reviews .....so darn glad I did . I showed up solo and immediately called in some of the guys working alongside me at Hot August Nights . First off the bar is amazing , from great AC to that old school Sinatra vibe Very comfortable seating I'm talking leather swivel rocking chairs style . Some museum pieces located around the room . This is a bar to sip and chat with people . Now comes the man himself. The reason I came here based on reviews I had searched for .......not a mixologist but a dam flavorologist!!!! Drinks he created are on the menus BUT he can also work off what you like based on three or four questions . We hung out with him for hours and sampled quite a few ..........he nailed it ! I went for the whiskey trinity (3 different drinks) and each one was amazing . Choc martini to finish the night Yum He has some snacks available Crockpot meatballs (cucumber mint vodka pesto). Ok.... What?! *insert mind blown emoji* We met Scott the owner at Thirsty's. He was awesome! He's been doing this since s the mid 90's. He's basically like a cocktail wizard... lol. He'll ask what your favorite flavor profiles are/what you typically drink and... voila! He has a drink for YOU!!! Ok... so... I love me some whiskey, but I also like a dash of sweetness... the kind that comes in an old fashion. His drink "The Cigar Box" practically spoke to my soul. When you taste it... you think SEXY... like... grown SEXY. Lol. Just try it, it'll make sense. The hubs had the Rat Pack... it's a cross between a manhattan and a an old fashion. BOMB!!! Scott is the ultimate mix master! Not only did he make amazing drinks but he also had beer cheese nachos! Scott has developed a book or should I say Bible of different drinks - and it's some pretty cool combos! He's very friendly and operated "Basque style billing" as I call it where he charges you at the end of the night which makes for a relaxed environment not time restrictive! When you come here it's to hang out. I'm somewhat glad this place isn't well known but I have a feeling it will get busy soon! read more

Here's another spot - do I tell you how cool it is ? Or bury it in reviews and make you discover it for yourself. Well first off you have to know that it is located on the 7th floor of the Plaza Hotel on West Street downtown. Then you have to know the password to get by the front desk to the elevator. The password changes every weekend. Hint- check their Facebook page or I might answer you if you text me for it. Now you have made it upstairs, turn right and right again and stroll into dark wood bar and expect Sammy and Frank talking in the corner while Dean is ordering a round at the bar from Scott. Among all the downtown casino bars, here's that cool quiet spot overlooking all the city lights. You can enjoy your drink inside in the cozy room at the bar or in one of the cozy groupings. Or take it out to the huge rooftop patio to sip and take in the view. Scott has created many old school favorites with his updated twists. The menu is well detailed, but if you still can't find a drink, just ask Scott to concoct one for you. Current hours are Friday and Saturday, opening at 5pm with happy hour. This visit was long overdue. In search of a "chill lounge" this place was the first to come to mind. Having heard good things about it three of us ventured over after having a fun group event on the opposite side of town, Not with the best sense of direction we ended up passing the hotel but luckily with signage it steered us in the right direction. Boy upon entering I fell in love with the hotel, one of my goals will be to plan to stay here, it feels like I traveled back in time and would possibly see Marilyn Monroe or Frank coming down the stairs. You need a password to get up to the bar once you're let in. Thirsty's was perfect nice vibe with plenty of seats. Also it was nice that we can sit and not have to shouat each other to talk. We were greeted by the bartenders as soon as we walked in. I ordered the I love you smore. The perfect amount of sweet and the marshmallows were roasted with a torch right before my eyes. I can't wait to go down the list and try more drinks from the drink bible already! There were more and more people arriving within the hour of them closing. The absolute *coolest* hidden gem here in Reno. We decided to come by for a double date/relaxing Saturday night with a friend, and it far and away exceeded my expectations. My friend Lindsey told me that it was a speakeasy-type situation, so I didn't really do much research before. Upon arrival, the front desk agent stops us and asks, "What's the password?", to which I panicked a bit, because I pride myself on being a pretty prepared person. Lindsey, being a regular, tells them, and we're on our way in. Later that night, I learned that they post their password on their social media. As someone who works in marketing, I thought it was an absolutely brilliant way to gather engagement and organic following on social media platforms. We went up to the seventh floor and found ourselves in this wonderful, quiet space, perfect for relaxation and catching up with old friends. Thirsty's finds a way to combine all the cool, almost secret aspects of a traditional speakeasy while introducing new and welcoming twists. You'll see that everything is pretty well-lit and modern in the bar area while also seeing clever touches, such as winged armchairs, a suit in a case, and intricate detailing that gives a subtle nod to the Prohibition Era when speakeasies came to fruition. Scott, the mixologist and beverage manager, was our host for the evening, and made all of us feel super welcome! I was a little intimidated at first because I went with a pretty traditional drink (I got a Moscow Mule), but he did an absolute phenomenal job of making sure that everyone felt included and welcomed. At a lot of bars, the ambience and how the night goes can impact your overall time, but if you have a great bartender such as Scott that has a great savoir faire with connecting with customers, it truly elevates the experience. We had planned to only stay for an hour or so, but before we knew it, time flew and we had already spent 3 hours just sitting and chatting. I am absolutely blown away with how cool this find was, and I would 100% come back and introduce more friends to this space. read more

Nice quiet bar. Quaint, woodsy, dim, calm. Nice bar area with seating for about ten people, TV overhead, and plenty of tables. The outdoor patio looks like it will be great for summer or 4th of July. Didn't have the password requirement for entry, kinda bummed we didn't get that part of the speakeasy experience. Our bartender, Scott was real friendly, with lots of stories and good conversation. This place was so fun and the cocktails are out of this world! The amazing bar tender was knowledgeable and gave us the history behind the bar, drinks, and all of his "spices" (aka mixers). He even made drink themed food for you to enjoy. He had made Frank Sinatra meatballs with red wine and they were to die for! The cigar box drink, the hot spiked apple cider was the bomb! There's something fancy-feeling about a speakeasy. It's not like they're necessary anymore, especially if you live in Reno you're able to drink any time of day, 365 days a year. But there's still something intriguing about a bar that only you and your friends know about, a secret. Thirsty's is going for that vibe--it's a well-appointed bar inside a hotel that has a password and a "secret" location. They're not looking to be a watering hole for tourists, but rather a place that locals can head to get a good cocktail in a swanky environment. You can use the valet parking in the building so don't worry about finding a spot in the mess that is downtown. Scott, the bartender, was super friendly and accommodated my multiple requests for drinks with champagne. They keep a crock-pot of snacks on the bar, which is a nice touch when you keep requesting cocktails with champagne. I am SUPER excited about their patio, which will make a fantastic place to watch the sunset on a summer night--stay tuned for that. One comment: They should work with the front desk staff a bit to increase the mystery around it. When I walked in, no one asked for the password and in fact, she said "Are you looking for the bar?" and then told me the location (which you'll note I did not write in my review). How come I didn't know this was a thing? As soon as I found out about the Speakeasy in the Plaza I had to check it out and it did not disappoint. The cocktail menu is extensive. It took me a good 7 minutes to select my beverage and it was The Aviator FTW! I chose wisely. Aviator gin and some lavender syrup with cherry and lemon and probably some other things too. It was DIVINE. Refreshing and classy and everything I hoped it would be. While the bartender offered up some tasty homemade keto meatballs we decided we needed additional sustenance and found, to our delight, that the table tent had menus for a couple of local eateries that would deliver to us. So we ordered a pizza and made ourselves at home. Oh, and there's also a freaking awesome rooftop patio that is accessible so you can enjoy the gorgeous Reno sunsets with your tasty beverage. Do NOT go there. As a seasoned bar goer this place is a total rip off. It is not a speak easy at all...total fake. Lame hotel bar at most. Cheesy setting next to hotel workout area. Really? I was charged $48.00 for two simple drinks. Owner was rude. Incompetent too. We brought 15 people in tonight, and they still would not waiver on their mischarging our drinks. We will never go back. Nor should you. Speak easy? More like Charge Too Much. And it has nothing of a speak easy. Come on people, go any where else. Please. I beg you. Your wallet and soul will thank you. Here is the scoop: Scott has created some fantastic cocktails and the menu is great. BUT You are NOT limited. Allow the mixologist to make you something amazing. Ask him about the liquors he stocks, enter into a conversation and ask for what you want. I picked drink (Need you tonight) that had a lovely black tea rum. I asked Scott to add a little of the spiced rum and he was happy to accommodate my request. The privacy, comfort and ambiance are well worth the visit. The drinks that we tried (Cigar box, Need you Tonight, Derby Supply Co. and While my Guitar Gently Weeps) were all as described with gorgeous nuanced flavors without a lot of sugary stickiness. I had looked forward to trying this place out until I arrived. The bartender was rude snd pompous and when my friend tried to order a gin and tonic, the bartender promptly replied that would be a "waste of his talent". Not sure what talent he was referring to as 4 out of our group of 5 could not choke down our drinks. The bartender also said they no longer use egg whites in their drinks because two patrons got salmonella from drinks with egg white from Thirsty's. This place could really benefit from being on "Bar Rescue". Needless to say, I will not be returning. read more
