Our tour was scheduled for two hours and it lasted 3, which wasn't good. We were supposed to have a meal which we paid for but Devin said we were out of time, no meal. We did stop for coffee but I had to pay for Devin's coffee. Not good at all. read more

We did the Downtown Toronto Tour: "Power, Politics, & The PATH". The tour guide was very energetic, did a great job keeping us moving from space to space, and had interesting stories about each place. I feel like the majority of the tour focused on the banks - which was cool, but I would have liked more time walking in The Path, and hearing more about Canadian political issues. Because these tours are free, however, they don't limit the size of the groups, and as a result, our group of 30+ people was way too many for him to manage or organize. Half the time we couldn't even hear what story he was trying to tell, and I feel like we missed out because so much time was spent herding us from spot to spot. Also - afterwards we looked up some of the 'facts' we were told because they sounded so outrageous. For example, while yes, it's true that the 14,000 windows of the Royal Bank towers are coated with a layer of 24-karat gold - they are worth about $70 per window, not the astronomical sum of millions each like we were told! Also, when doing research afterwards on BCE Place Galleria and Heritage Square, I could find nothing that mentions it supports three skyscrapers like we were told. Nor could I find anything about replacing the floor regularly due to cracking from all the weight on it. I'm not saying that it isn't true - just that I can't find any article that confirms it. So, long story short - I was drawn in by the great reviews, and it's an easy walking tour to take, but next time I would rather spend money on a tour where the group size was limited, and the guide gave more accurate descriptions versus just trying to tell a good tale. read more

Aaron was a fun and informative tour guide! The route was really interesting and I felt like we got to see a lot of the city in a short amount of time. He also did a great job fielding questions, telling interesting stories, and involving everyone in our group in the tour (even though there were 15 of us). I don't remember how I came across Tour Guys. I guess it was luck. Several free tours are offered, but I was most interested in the St Lawrence Market tour as it involves my favorite thing- food! When I first signed up, I thought 90 minutes was a long time. It ended up being just enough. Our tour guide was Aaron. He was personable and knowledgeable. We started outside the market and he told us the history of how it used to be city hall and a jailhouse. Then we visited several vendors including Carousal Bakery. Don't expect to get a full meal from the small samples like you're at a Costco. Try and buy if you like anything. And even though it's a free tour, make sure you have cash on hand to tip at the end! read more

i highly recommend their free walking tours! my family went on two tours in one day with these guys - the one that takes you to the sports arenas and cn tower, and the one that walks along the riverfront. both tours were free and super informative. the tour guides really know their stuff. the one we had in the morning had a lot of energy and definitely gave us a good tour. in the evening, we had jason, who i think is one of the owners of the company. he was really great, calmer, just as informative, and his passion was genuine and really showed. we were with a family who had a baby and he was really patient with them as they were going on and off the tour when she was fussy. he also extended the tour by a half hour so he could show us more stuff, but told us that of course we were free to leave. it was just a great entertaining tour with a really great tour guide. the tour is free, but tips are appreciated, which our first tour guide mentioned, and our second didn't (preferred this as it was less awkward, but i'm a waitress so i get that it probably needs to be said). if we're back in toronto, we do plan on checking out more of their tours - they have a lot of paid ones that look super interesting too! read more

I did the dark history tour of Toronto with Neil. I always like to do a walking tour of a city to get the know it better. This is actually my first walking tour in North America! I was stuck in a little traffic and emailed my guide Neil. He emailed me back and even gave me directions on where they would be if I arrived late and also gave me his cell number so I could call him to find out where they were. Neil was a really great guide who had an extensive history of doing tours in South America so he was experienced. You could tell that he was a history buff and he had an almost uncanny enthusiasm to him which shown through every story he told. I won't spoil the tour for you, but I learned a lot of stuff about Toronto that I wouldn't have known if I hadn't gone on this tour. There's quite a "dark history" involving prostitutes and murderers in this clean and friendly city Toronto! Will definitely try and do some of the other tours...the beer tour looked fun =p Cheers! read more

My wife and I signed up for two walking tours. As our luck would have it there was a marathon going on that day and one of the tour guides actually reached out ahead of time to make sure we allowed extra time to get there which was really appreciated. I'd recommend this for folks to help get their bearings in town and to give some context to any other adventures you have in town. In the morning Neil took us on the Downtown Toronto tour. It was a great tour with historical and modern information about the city. He kept the group together even as we had to negotiate around the marathon and the spectators. In the afternoon, we did the Dark History tour with Natalie. She was able to re-route our tour to work around the road closures for the marathon. Her stops included interesting history for places you would otherwise walk past and miss out on their significance. Both of our guides were very willing to answer our questions about Toronto and help us with getting to restaurants and other points of interest after the tour. You'll get the most out of these if you do them at the beginning of your visit, but they are still worth doing if you have been in town for a while already. read more

Arrived in T-town in hopes for some reasonable options to get an overall feel of the city. So many attractions felt like tourist traps and then I remembered I did Free Tours By Foot in New Orleans back in January. I went to their site, which redirected me to Tour Guys Toronto. Needless to say, I (again) made the right decision. Our guide Laurel was so sweet, informative, and prideful in the best way about her city. Took us through the most important landmarks, patiently telling us facts and even personalized some of the sites with her own experiences. First tour ended at the Brewery for a free tasting, which is the GENIUS idea (other tours better notes -- and no, I'm not a habitual drunk). Gave her $25 for two tours because she did such a fantastic job. Highly recommend for everyone. You won't regret it. read more

Two of my friends and I did a Ghost tour with the Tour Guys Toronto on Saturday just past. Bri was our guide and she was wonderful. She was warm, friendly and had a really great sense of humour. It was not really scary for which I must say I was grateful, but more fun tour. Bri was very knowledgeable about the history of the places she took us to. It is really nice being a tourist in our city which we live. People do not do this enough and they should. It makes you appreciate your city's architectural history. My husband and I went on the Old Town tour with Jacky. The tour started in front of the old city building. You can reserve you spot on the tour online beforehand. Although our tour guide didn't check that information at the beginning of the tour. As a result the number of people on our tour was outrageous. There were probably 50+ people on our tour and it effected the experience. We couldn't hear a lot of the tour information because of the size and choice of stopping points. Also you locate your tour guide at the beginning by the land yard they wear. It would be nice if they had a visible sign. The parts of the tour we could the tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. Our tour ended at St. Lawrence Market. At the end you can pay what you think the tour guide deserves. read more

My friend and I did two tours, the old town and the graffiti tour, both were led by Tim and really great! The graffiti one seemed a little long and drawn out (but that could be because it was later in the day). Tim is funny and very good with his stories and history of Toronto, it made the old town stories really exciting even for me as someone who isn't very excited about history all the time. The old town is also great to just learn about Canada's history as a nation as well. read more

My boyfriend and I took the Power, Politics, and The Path tour for our first full day in Toronto. The tour was easy to find in Union station, and it didn't feel like 90 minutes at all! Tim gave a solid overview of some of the main downtown Toronto highlights. He was informative and I left knowing a few interesting tidbits that I don't think I would have picked up otherwise! My reason for four stars isn't major, but I definitely think that limiting the number of people on the tour could be beneficial. There were almost 40 people in our group, and that seemed like a bit much and it could get claustrophobic in the smaller spaces and didn't feel very personal (although a more personal tour is my personal preference). Overall, it was wonderful and for free, you can't get much better! read more

The tour would get a 4 star rating if it had cost $10, and not $47. What do you get for your $47, you ask? Let me tell you...1. Taken to 3 different pubs where you have to buy all your own beer. Yes that's right - the cost does not include any beer whatsoever - except the free dixie cup samples at Mill Street Brew Pub, which are available to everyone. 2. A free butter tart at the St. Lawrence Market. More precisely, half of a butter tart, as there weren't enough for everyone to go around. 3. Pemeal bacon, mustard and wine samples at the St. Lawrence Market - the same bite size samples available to the general public. 4. Nachos at one pub. Considering you can go on a free walking tour of Toronto, I have no idea how this company has the nerve to charge $47 to bring people to well known pubs in Toronto. The downtown tour was pretty interesting, the dark history of Toronto one not so much. Guess Toronto's history just isn't that dark or gory. Other than that we had a great time.
