I was looking for a door with a glass pane in the upper part. I live in Atchison Village, which is on the National Historic Register. The original doors to our units were like that but very few are left. I needed to replace my door and wanted to find something that was similar to our original doors.I went to Home Depot, incredibly expensive and no helpful staff. Went to Urban Ore, no helpful staff there either and I couldn't find what I was looking fer. Came here and staff were very helpful and found exactly the door I needed in about 10 minutes. Refurbishing a Swiss Craftsman home and developed a need for a pocket door after we had to redo some stairs. Finding a solid wood pocket door in the appropriate age category with the right number of panels in the correct style is a real challenge. My son and I, and then my husband and I, pawed through all of the doors at Urban Ore and mentally redesigned the pocket location to fit the doors we found - none of which were right. I finally went online and found a suitable replacement, but the lead time was 8-10 weeks and the expense was exorbitant. Timing is crucial when you have a wonderful contractor you want to keep around to do the projects - we couldn't risk letting him take another job and not finish this portion, so I was determined to find another door. I went back to the Urban Ore site and found a page where they list all of the other nearby places that provide similar items - I thought that was very cool. So I perused them online and got very excited to find This & That. It's out-of-the-way in Richmond (near Annie's if you're a gardener) and OMG! Doorstravaganza! I felt like I had walked into the best dream ever. My husband and I started searching for what we needed - 5 panels, solid redwood, pocket style, in great shape. We looked at so many doors and came sooooooo close, but then they sent out two wonderful young men who looked at the pictures on my phone of the two styles that would work, asked which I preferred, and walked into the area where these were (apparently) stored. When I noticed they were looking at regular doors I asked if there were any pocket style and they moved to a new location and voila! 5 panel redwood pocket door! You'd think from my response that I had won the lottery (for those of you who work on houses you KNOW this is better than that!). Anyway, for a truly reasonable price we drove away with a beautiful door that I will spend the next two days refinishing myself. I can't wait to go back just to look around more carefully. The people there are wonderful and helpful and the inventory is such that you'll likely find something you want that you didn't even know you needed. Thank you, This & That! This is such a gem of a find all by it's self. We have driven by so many times that we made it a point to visit finally. What a lot of stuff. If you have a home improvement project or even a landscaping project, check them out first. We put in a French Drain and bought the drainage pipe at a hardware store. This & That has the pipe and it's probably a lot less expensive. They have tile, rod iron gating, barrels for rain water collection, doors, joint compound (!) appliances, door knobs, windows, industrial shelving, bathtubs, toilets and the list goes on. I have been to Urban Ore probably 6 times and 6 times I haven't found what I wanted. One trip to This & Than and we found items to check off on several project lists. We are coming back when we start buying supplies for our projects and suggest you check them out. It's another option that you probably didn't know you had. read more

Fascinating place full of odds and ends and the occasional real find: in my case, a huge door-size, A-series Andersen architectural multi-paned window that had never been installed. $150 for the window, $75 for delivery. They (the two Santiagos?) are great and courteous people. They know what's in their yard and are friendly, so just ask. read more

Came in to look for a front door after way too much time trying to find a nice used one on Craigslist. Never found one online, but found one here in 10 minutes for a reasonable price. They had 1000s of doors to check through along with a lot of other items for reuse. Glad I came here before I caved at Home Depot. read more

You like Urban Ore or Omega Salvage, but not real happy about the prices? Well come here if you need a toilet, a door, a window. This place is much much bigger than it looks from the outside. I asked the price of a few things, and I they were quite moderate. There's a lot of cabinets. They have quite a few lamps, hanging from the ceiling. Outside they have nice old wrought iron stuff, fences, gates, stair rails. It was just fun walking around looking at everything. I'd never paid attention to it despite living about a half mile from it for many years. It's nice to know if I have a salvage type need, I don't necessarily go all the way to Berkeley. This place is awesome. I have been going here 12 years, They advertise they up cycle. That they do, but they have such a large selection of brand new items also. A lot of the up cycled items are gently used and require minimal work. They have a door framing machine so you can buy any door and they can make it a pre hung door. I have purchased washers,dryers, stoves and lighting just to name a few. After going here one time I have no need to go to Home Depot they have pretty much everything a contractor or weekend warrior needs. The staff is very helpful and knowledgable. read more

This is a collection yard for displaced and new materials for your home. You will find baseboards, door casings, new doors and dozens of other items for at least half price. staff is helpful and speaking Spanish would be a plus. We walked out with a steal on 3 solid wood doors and moulding. they also have a huge collection of plantation shutters in the back....you'd really have to spend a day there to measure and find exactly what your looking for. this is the place to go to save money rather than a Home Depot trip. read more

I have been doing business with Santiago and his brother at This and That ever since they opened. They have doors and can even pre-hang/frame them for you with their machine. They have sinks, door hardware, sink faucets, everything that comes out of a building when torn down or remodeled. Also factory closeouts. Cheaper than Urban Ore so worth the drive. Nice people to do business with. I even bought a huge, wall mounted, projection screen that raises up and down electronically here the other day. read more

Friendly, helpful, and I am embarrassed by how little they charged me. It is very close to Pick-n-Pull and reminds me a great deal of that kind of business except this is building materials. Yes, it is a junk yard, but it is reasonably organized and has lots of inventory, especially in doors and windows. The quality runs from pretty rough to like-new with most of it being typically "used" that will require some extra effort to shine it up. Got more time than money? - this place is worth a visit before buying that needed new material. The staff is very friendly and the place just has a very welcoming feel to it. read more

Just bought an Old Glass & Wood framed door to make into an Entryway picture frame with hooks for hanging coats at an unbelievable low price. Now I have to go back because because my Dad wants one for his house.
