As a member of the service industry it pains me to say this, but (as a member of the service industry,) I've gotta call a spade a spade. I ordered a drink and asked to close out right away; after taking my card, the bartender never circled back to me, which I chalked up to them being busy (they were admittedly hustling very hard at this particular time). I decided to stop back a little later, at which point they said they had no card under my name and no record of my order. Mistakes happen, streams get crossed, this comes with the territory - however, the bartender was SO unnecessarily combative with me in response that I just can't shake the experience. "So you're accusing me of stealing your card?" No? I think you were busy, things slipped through the cracks, and my card got lost, perhaps given to the wrong person. "So what do you want me to say?" I don't know? Anything that would imply accountability, maybe? Something that isn't actively hostile? He then pointedly ignored me for the rest of the night. Again, I get it, mistakes happen, especially during a rush. But I left feeling so disheartened and, frankly, gaslit into thinking that somehow I was at fault because the bartender lost my card and couldn't simply level with me about it... I'm really bummed to be leaving this kind of review for a space that I once held so much respect for, both because of its history and its efforts to bolster local LGBTQ+ performers, but if it's just going to be staffed by such morally-bankrupt, unprofessional twinks, I'm out. Stopped in to "This Is It" to meet a friend after flying into Milwaukee from Seattle. My friend was decidedly nervous about my meeting him at a "rainbow" bar he frequents. Absolutely love their 18+ nights. very VERY inclusive and friendly from the second you walk in to the second you leave. I really like that there's two different scenes within the building. there's also two different bars and one side is more for partyers and one for the people who enjoy a bit quieter. i'm personally very impressed with this business and would recommend it to anyone really. read more

My husband and I visited last Saturday night while we vacationed in Milwaukee. I enjoyed the drag show immensely and I was thankful for the relatively cheap cocktails. However, it was packed in there and I felt a little uncomfortable both because of COVID-19 risk and no wiggle room. We were in the very back and it was difficult to get out of the building when we were ready to go. I basically had to bump into everyone. It's also worth noting that the crowd is mostly younger and I felt really old as a young Gen-Xer. I also wish they offered food. read more

We stopped here while working our way through Cathedral Square for a bachelorette party. All the staff was super sweet and prompt with service. This was our first stop after dinner and we should have come later for the DJ at 10:30pm. Lots of space to dance and 2 bars for service- a nice layout. Some of the girls in our group were quite tipsy while we were here and Colin (staff/security) was super nice and chatted with them during our stay. My drink was okay but was the cheap for the area...so you get what you pay for. Will be back to dance! read more

Thank you, This Is It, for being my first Milwaukee gay bar! This is definitely a neighborhood bar, where the bartenders know the regular patrons by name and said bartenders and patrons are all pretty friendly. What impressed me the most about this bar and really about Milwaukee as a whole is how cheap the bear is! Affordable prices and neighborhood feel make this more of a after work or week night spot instead of a Friday or Saturday night spot. This is especially true when you consider that it's located significantly away from the other gay bars. Can't wait to make it back to Milwaukee soon and stoping by this bar. read more

Excellent place, the only LGBT bar in Milwaukee I'll go to, clean professional, they do fallow all COVID-19 percussion temps, questions, and the mask is a must! The owner is also seen very frequently behind the bar and around the bar, also did a very nice clean And modern extension with the bar, a second bar area including a stage, and screen tv, and a second bar area with chairs as well! Decided to come meet my best friend here when he was in town to try something new. The vibe was very colorful and chill. They had a "Disney on ice" show performing that night and that was interesting to watch. They weren't on "ice" but they added a fun touch to it by being on roller-skates! I thought that was pretty cool. Everyone dressed up and really looked like their Disney character. You can tip the performers if you'd like and everyone was really friendly. They don't serve food but they do have a little snack wall you can buy chips for a $1 if you need something to snack on. I was surprised they didn't have certain brand name drink options like Bacardi at the bar, but they did have the brand I usually get so that was fine with me. They don't use plastic straws which was a nice touch but frustrating at the same time ha-ha. My straw kept falling apart (normal for paper straws) so I ended up buying a $2 rainbow metal straw. I didn't mind because it was a cute straw and I definitely want to help save the planet! The bartender was really attentive to when our drinks were empty and made sure to refill them. He was really nice as well. I would come back here again. It's fun for everyone! read more

Very nice remodel and plenty of bathrooms! Friendly bartenders and reasonably priced drinks. Love the drag show! I just wish there were some 'lower' tables, as it's difficult for disabled people to use the high tops/stools. Also, beware of the first step outside by the entrance... super high. There aren't many gay bars where I feel comfortable... this establishment is the exception. The clientele is pretty consistent so you're likely to see a handful of familiar faces - many of which are welcoming and stray from the usual "clique" dilemma. The karaoke nights (Monday) are packed if you come around 10:00... it's a lot of fun, and this is coming from someone who hates karaoke. They do sporadic drinks specials throughout the evening most nights and the tab is always reasonable. Show your face a few times and they might even throw in a free shot. read more

This is It, or TITS as its known by locals, is your classic old school gay bar. Throwback to the days without windows, the double doors to get through, and a seemingly hidden location (you'll miss it if you're not looking hard), this place has all the old world charm one could want. The bartenders here are fabulous and make an effort to get to know many of the regulars. Many nights here definitely have a 'Cheers' atmosphere about them. Drinks are stiff, always poured the same (2 shots, measured), and everything is accurately served in its correct vessel. Beer range isnt that great (think domestics), but Lakefront is on tap. Cocktails and booze take center stage here, and shots are 2-4-1 past 10 every night. If you don't feel comfortable at this bar, you should probably loosen up your girdle or take out whatever is jammed up your ass, because This is It is truly a classic, laid back cocktail lounge. Where do I start? TITS is perfect. It's home to me. The bartenders are legitimately the best in the business. Why is that? Because they actually converse with you, all while keeping your drink full. Seriously, I'm pretty sure they're allergic to empty glasses. The drink specials. OH! The drink specials! There's one every evening, on top of the famous disco ball 2.4.1. Friday nights feature 3.4.1 on rail mixers and tap beer, which makes it possible to drink all night on $10. Drink pours are strong, just as they should be. So beautiful that I could cry. The crowd is wonderful. Often times I find myself hating gay bars because the crowd is too much to deal with. Not the case with TITS. There's a huge crowd of regulars here, which is one of the best signs to see when checking out a bar. This really is the gay Cheers. Word to the wise however, this place can get crowded on Friday/Saturday nights. The decor closely mimics your grandmother's basement, circa 1984, with a wonderful gay touch. There is a raging debate as to whether this place is a dive bar or not. I would say it doesn't really fit entirely into the dive bar category. It is a dive bar in the sense that the drinks are cheap, the pours are strong and it's dark and somewhat homey. On the other hand, its really clean, the bartenders are amazingly friendly and, I don't feel like I'm going to catch the Clap from a visit to the bathroom. So, is it a dive bar? Nope. Does it have somewhat of a divey feel to it? If you must. Hands-down, TITS is my favorite bar in Milwaukee. I'm not really sure what I would do if it were to ever go away. What a pleasant surprise! The former wrinkle room is now the most well-integrated, all-ages, all-genders, gay bar I've been to in ages. Great drink specials, friendly competent staff, and a warm, fun interactive crowd that ranged from 20s to 60s. Decent jukebox, and people were actually dancing later in the evening! Chicago, you could learn a lot from this place... It's divey, fun, and cozy. Bartenders are nice and every time I'm in there everyone seems to be having a great time. I love their jukebox and there is always some super gay song on, which I love. Loop Janet and Britney all night, I don't mind. Drinks are cheap and poured generously. Drink specials alllll the time, especially when that disco ball is all lit up! I never thought I'd ever write a review about a gay bar. Why? Because I hate gay bars. But honestly, TITS, as it's affectionately named by locals (and I don't consider myself a local by any means), is the one exception I will ever make in this category (unless, of course, I feel like tearing into a particularly awful gay bar, which, let's be honest, I don't have the time or energy to do). TITS is great for the following reasons: 1) The crowd is not obnoxious. 2) No, really, the crowd is not obnoxious. The thing I hate most about gay bars is gay men (and I am one of them, but not in that annoying self-loathing way). TITS patrons are generally courteous, but oftentimes quite intoxicated because of point 3 and 4. 3) The drinks are goddamn strong. 4) The drinks are reasonably priced. And strong. 5) They have this weird special where whenever this light comes on the drinks are two for one. And you can stock up. It's pure madness. MADNESS! 6) The bartenders are probably the nicest and most relatable and attentive gentlemen I've experienced in the service industry. And this holds especially rare in gay bars where you have to fight for a drink. 7) The decor is odd, but charming. The seating is sparse but manageable. But it's admittedly a dive bar. However, it's probably the most comfortable gay dive bars I've been to. Would I bring my straight friends here? Probably not. It still has a very territorially gay vibe to it which would make my straight friends a little uncomfortable. But they could be sold with the strength and price of the drinks. I know I am. read more

Wonderful owner and bartenders, STIFF drinks - weirdly, they jigger everything, but generously, and specials that make me question how they turn a profit. A typical night at TITS involves getting some sort of token special, where you are eventually getting double-tall super premiums for free. For several hours. I was back in Wisconsin for a week early this month and was able to spend one night in Milwaukee before heading up to Door County. My partner and I were staying at the Intercontinental downtown and wanted a drink with our fellow brethren and looked up the nearest gay bar. This Is It was the only bar walkable, so we decided to go. The jukebox was fun, the crowd was amazing and super nice. The atmosphere was friendly. The prices are right, we had a blast, and the company was great. I will always pop in for a drink everytime I go back for family vacation! P.S.
