I've been using Thistle for months and I love their food--always plenty of good choices and flexibility with ordering. I am not vegan, but I prefer to eat more plants than animal protein, and this gives me the option of adding it if I like it. The snacks are good. The juices are good. And I waited to give this review until I had a chance to try Sakara (with a good coupon because holy crap the price) and Thistle's food is so much tastier than Sakara's. No joke, this service is truly the highlight of my work day, every day. I chose the vegan meal service - I'm not vegan, but I love vegan cuisine, especially when it is as tasty and interesting as this, and prefer vegan protein in general. I've been getting breakfast and lunch five days a week for 3 weeks now and there hasn't been a day that I've hated or even disliked. Since I live in an area with a real lack of healthy places to eat, getting these deliveries is truly like being able to have an expensive vegan restaurant meal every day, but personally delivered to me! The food is super clean, totally down my alley in terms of food/taste preference, and makes me feel great. (None of the sluggishness typically felt after eating "regular" restaurant meals) Breakfasts have been either smoothies with protein, oatmeals, or cooked meals such as tofu or quinoa scrambles. No waffles or other high carb breakfast stuff that makes you crash later. Heated meals are best cooked on a stovetop but can also be quickly heated in a microwave, as I've done. The lunches are salads - I've noticed people complaining about this, but the salads always have a TON of stuff in them (wild rice, quinoa, spiced veggies, etc etc) and it's fun to "discover" the different tastes in each side of the salad. This isn't your typical sad "side salad." Delivery is a little tough. They only offer two delivery windows (very early in the morning, or very late in the evening the night before), and sometimes don't quite make it within the window. I've had one mishap with delivery that was quickly rectified. If I have another issue I'll probably have them deliver the food to my house instead of my business. The service isn't cheap, but if the price is within your means, I would absolutely recommend it. read more

I like the concept of thisle. I like the food. However, when I opted to skip the service on three separate occasions, I went into my account, clicked skip, it save, confirmed the cancelation but still received the food and the charge. Not that I blew the first error off but I tried to make it work. Then it happened 2 additional times. So what happened is either the food expired before I could consume it or I just did not have room for it in my refrigerator. I don't know if the demand is larger than they can keep up with or if they just want money? I don't know. Either way, until they get it together I'm out. I can make better use of my money read more

I ordered vegan meals since I hurt my wrist and couldn't cut vegetables or cook. The meals varied from good to sometimes not edible. They could be bland or too spicy or awful taste. Some of the sauces tasted sour or just off some were good like pesto sauce. They rotate the same type of meals over and over. The size portion was not consistent. Some portions were so small. When I asked about it, they said the portion is by weight and the meals are exactly the same. It sure didn't seem like it. The delivery service was mostly good but once in a while it was frustrating. Examples: delivered to the wrong apartment, food containers open and food spilled in the bag, food not cold. They do answer emails quickly and give credit for issues so I would rate customer service very good. read more

Extremely disappointed. We were excited about this service and wanted to give it a try. Our first order was set for Monday and around 8 AM that day we heard that the delivery person forgot our bag and that they will not be able to deliver. I spoke to TJ from customer service and ask him to confirm that our Thursday order will arrive as we did not buy groceries, planning to eat thistle all this week. Thursday came around and to my surprise a different customer service agent called Erica asked me if her address was in Mountain View or San Francisco I quickly responded but they told me they will not be able to deliver again. Offered me a job then told me they wouldn't hire me because I have a "Using Hand Held Device" ticket. How the F' do companies like this have this policy when the job they require you to do is Use a Hand Held Mobile Device and the provided app to make deliveries. It is a form of discrimination and if you ask me just proof Thistle is another company that doesn't really care about the Employees only themselves . We as employees are asked to take the risk of being caught using our hand held devices to do our job but if caught doing so we are just disposable. Hi All, Just wanted to voice a real concern about Thistle. Not sure if they are not training or screening their delivery folks but while the food may be tasty, it is ridiculous to find it left in your parking lot or worse on the outside of an entry gate that literally places it just off the street. Either the delivery driver is an idiot who cant read the directions left in the app or Thistle truly doesn't care about how the food gets to you. ON THE STREET is way beyond unacceptable and leaves the food for anyone to take or mishandle and then puts the customer in the position to argue that they never received it should someone come along and avail themselves to 10 lunches!! I was appalled to find it outside the gate and only found it after leaving for work in my car. I had to return back to my condo in order to put it away! What kind of problems are they having that this kind of common sense doesn't exist with the delivery person! This meal delivery service is an actual joke. I kept seeing it all over Facebook and Instagram and I thought it would be nice to try, since the meals look fresh and healthy. I placed an order for dinners for one week. "How wrong could this go?" I thought to myself as I read all the reviews about delivery mishaps. Well, let me tell you, apparently delivering something someone has ordered is rocket science to this company. Instead of my dinners, I received two lunch meals that I seriously did not want. I called customer service during the hours that they are listed as open on their website, nobody answered. Finally, someone picked up the phone, apologized, and promised the meals I had actually ordered would be delivered later in the day, as well as cancelling the meals for the rest of the week so that I don't have to go through this again. I was pleased with the resolution, and the woman on the phone was friendly. Boy was I naive in thinking that it had been resolved! Later in the day comes around, and the delivery man hands me an empty bag. A bag with two ice packs and absolutely zero meals. I thought to myself that this MUST be a joke, but no! And no customer support people are answering the phone either. So now I've just paid for a bunch of meals that I have yet to receive despite having TWO deliveries. Lunches and Dinners are amazing! I have been a Thistle customer for a several months and I am in love. Thistle is great for someone who wants interesting vegan meals and doesn't have tons of time to cook. I have only tried the lunches and dinners (so I cant speak to the breakfasts and the juices), and I think they are a great deal since there are such bad & expensive vegetarian options in Palo Alto. There are alot of complaints about unreliable delivery and I think they are kind of absurd complaints. The meals are delivered in pre-specified drop off time windows (unlike other meal prep services that I have tried which don't even tell you the day). Once I had the meals delivered to the building beside mine and the customer service was amazing. They credited my account for the meals, apologized profusely, and updated my delivery account with further instructions for the drivers so it wouldn't happen again. I was even able to find the meals because they sent me a picture of where they ended up, so I think thats pretty reasonable! read more

I absolutely love Thistle. I have been eating their food 2 times a day, 6 days a week for 4 months now and never came across a dish I didn't like. They are a lifesaver as a Celiac person living in a dorm with no kitchen. When I signed up I intended to rotate many different meal delivery services and compare, but it only took sampling a few other services to realize that this one is worth sticking with. The fresh local delivery beats mail delivery hands down. Just the variety of different ingredients I get to eat on a daily basis is wonderful. I tried exactly 4 meals (lunches) from Thistle to take advantage of the 20% off promo code and hopefully experience a healthier week of eating. It seemed like an easy way to incorporate my veggies and fruits into my diet and the meals looked great. The service itself was easy-to-use and accessible, so props to Thistle for a sleek, intuitive website and seamless delivery. They dropped off the food on Monday and Wednesday morning between 6-8am (you can choose the time range). One minor annoyance is that despite specifying that it was OK to leave the food outside of the building without buzzing, the delivery person on Wednesday buzzed me a few times and woke me up. The packaging is great and efficient. The meals come in a reusable black bag and an icepack so the food stays fresh for at least two days. However, the food itself was quite repetitious (all four were salads), hit or miss, and not quite filling enough. For the price point ($12.50/meal), those reasons are why I ultimately why I chose to pause my subscription at the end of the week. Although I know I'm paying more for high-quality, organic ingredients, I didn't love half of the salads and I rarely felt full/satisfied after a meal. I do think there's potential. When Thistle shines, it really shines. The tomato & panzanella salad was fantastic and had bright, complex flavors. But my white bean & olive salad today is 90% grated carrots which is no bueno. I'm actually confused as to how it looks so different than the picture on the website. I'll probably keep checking Thistle's menu and opt in for weeks where it looks really tasty, but for the most part I'm not too jazzed about the food I received this week (aside from the one salad). We had Thistle from February 2018 until August 2018. While we mostly enjoyed the food, the service lacked a basic level of polish and organization, which prompted us to cancel service. We've had food arrive in a bag that smelled like weed. Food had come warm when it should be kept at a safe temperature, and food had arrived well after the cut-off. On two occasions we discovered it on our porch the next morning and had to toss it. On the last occasion, we had to get out of bed at 10:40 PM to retrieve it. Recently, we even received a phone call from a courier who could have been stoned informing us in ambiguous terms that "our delivery is here". We haven't had any of these problems with Munchery and while we wish Thistle the best, it has become too inconvenient to continue; especially at their level of pricing. The entire purpose of a meal delivery service is to have meals taken care of. As a working single mother of 2, I decided to try Thistle to have 2 nights of mid-week meals taken care of. The food has been good, but the deliveries are unreliable. They arrive at different times, in the wrong location, and sometimes not at all. Recently my meals weren't delivered, although I received a text notification at 10pm (the end of the delivery window) that they had been delivered. I contacted Thistle to report the problem and was told they looked into it and the driver had an unforeseen circumstance that affected their entire route, and that they were unable to offer a redelivery. But instead of being notified of the problem early so I could make other plans, I received an erroneous text that my meals had arrived. Thistle refunded this week's meals (obviously), and gave me a $20 credit, which doesn't come close to covering take out for a night, or the inconvenience of having to scramble to make meals for 2 nights. I specifically requested a phone call before delivery, as packages cannot be safely left unattended outside my door in the Mission neighborhood. I wanted to love Thistle but their delivery window is TERRIBLE and they're not flexible with delivery options so sadly, this didn't work for me. I've missed my first delivery because whoever delivered it decided to leave it outside my apartment building without calling or texting me, which they're supposed to do (HOA in my building is a pain in the ass because only select and pre-approved vendors such as UPS and USPS are given the security code; renters are not given the code) I don't know if someone in my building took the bag or if the delivery person made a mistake, but I received nothing. I went downstairs to check outside my building and nope, nada. I had to contact their support team and: 1) They weren't able to send me a same day replacement and instead issued a refund. So I kissed my lunches and dinners for the next 3 days goodbye 2) They assured me that they'd remind the delivery person to CALL or TEXT me upon delivery of the next shipment The next day, my account shows that I'm supposed to receive another shipment. I wait and wait for the delivery call or text, but receive nothing. I finally reach out to the support team and it turns out that it had already arrived and that my meals are sitting outside my apartment building. I immediately ran downstairs HOPING the bag is still outside, and alas, it miraculously is! (Imagine a partially opened bag sitting right outside an apartment building. Oh, how tempting.) However, the food was warm and one of the salads I got smelled like it had spoiled, but the other meals smelled okay so I immediately transferred them into the fridge, hoping I don't die from them the next day. The next day, the questionable salad was obviously spoiled and I had to toss it. I contacted the support team again and got nothing. Finally, I got fed up and just asked for a refund, which someone graciously handled for me in a prompt manner. OH BUT I STILL HAVE A SHIPMENT ARRIVING IN TWO DAYS AND APPARENTLY I'M UNABLE TO CANCEL THAT. That following Monday, I received a delivery text at 4 am in the morning and OOPS, they couldn't deliver my food because *gasp* I didn't leave out my insulated bag outside my apartment building. And once again, the support team is unable to send a replacement on the same day and they can't change delivery times. We're vegetarian, and we started ordering Thistle at the start of the pandemic. It's fresh, vibrant, filling, and healthy, and it literally takes no effort at all to eat these meals--pull them out of the fridge or microwave them if you want, and they'll taste great. The service is fairly pricey, but the ingredients are top-notch. It's most cost-effective if you end up eating Thistle for a lot of meals each week, like we do; the price per meal drops from $14.50 to about $12 the more you order. I love that you can customize your cart every week and get exactly what you want (and none of what you don't). Skipping a day or a week or whatever you like is super easy. Full disclosure, a couple of times delivery has gone wrong, or I found a piece of unwanted plastic packaging in my meal. Each time I emailed Thistle and they got back to me fast, refunded me, and offered me credits on future orders. They've since fixed the plastic issue. Customer service is great. They deliver every two days my fresh meals. Never wilted or old and easy to heat or eat cold. Thistle has changed my life significantly for the better. With Thistle, the healthy option is now the convenient option. I have stopped cooking entirely and actually eat healthier. I don't think it's even much more expensive than groceries. I haven't had the delivery problems that others have had (here in Marin County, CA). I have recommended it to many friends and am happy with it most of the time. I think of Thistle as exactly the right level of healthy - filling, but made from almost all good stuff. The portions are right on the edge of too big for me (140lb female) - which means that they work for me and my male partner. There is spinach in basically every meal, which is good to know if you don't eat it. My chief complaint with Thistle is the sheer number of dishes that have beans. I try to avoid beans because who likes being gassy all day. With Thistle, usually 75% of the meal options have beans in them. I like to eat a mix of meat & veggie, but when I go to select my meals, I often can't order a single vegetarian options because it's just beans on beans on beans. My second complaint is that the packaging waste is horrific. My daily consumed plastic went up by probably 3x when I started getting Thistle delivery. I would pay extra for a sustainable option, but when I wrote to the company to enquire, they did not yet have any. I'm now about 5 months in and just starting to get sick of it sometimes - there isn't a ton of repeating, but if you go on a nearly 100% Thistle diet like I have recently, you may get sick of the options. But overall it's delicious, has a wide variety of flavors, and is as easy as could possibly be for home-prepared meals. Funny that one reviewer complained about bags not being picked up. They left my breakfasts out this week. Breakfasts are really yummy too so I am bummed! They were great at first, maybe a month- Food is mostly good. Some meals great. I maybe canceling service this week. Tired of being disappointed in them. It's time for a major staff meeting with the packers or get better people and pay them more. I think I would pay more if I could count on the service. read more
