My first few deliveries from Thistle has been great, in the time window and good quality. However, today (3/1) I never received my delivery. I tried to reach out by phone and left a voice mail. I also reached out by email. So far, no one has contacted me back to let me know what happened. It doesn't seem possible to get someone live to talk to in a timely manner. What seemed like a promising start ended with lack luster customer service when an issue occurs. *Update. Thistle's customer service did eventually get back to me at the end of the day. They redelivered the next day, however there was a missing item. I appreciate them eventually trying to make things right. Until they have someone you can contact for issues real time during business hours and work out their delivery kinks, I'll hold off on ordering more from them. read more

Not worth it for the amount of money they charge. Three weeks in a row now they've gotten my order wrong. When that happens they only "refund" and don't deliver the correct food. That does me no good as I'm paying for a meal service so I don't have to stress about grocery shopping or running out to buy take out. I'm beyond infuriated. The food itself is hit or miss. I generally enjoy the salads for lunch and it's a good amount. The problem is with the dinners. When they actually get my dinner orders right they overload them with spinach. There's no reason to put THAT MUCH SPINACH IN EVERYTHING! For example one of their pasta's the other night I couldn't even taste the penne because more than half the box was spinach. It's ridiculous. The rest of the food for dinner is usually a huge hit or miss (Again if they even get the order right to begin with.) The Juices are good BUT they are priced at $10 per juice which is ridiculous. Whole Foods doesn't even charge this much. I'm completely over it. Just started getting Thistle this week and I am super-impressed with the quality of the food, the variety, the portions, the freshness, and the flavor. I've been nothing but impressed with them so far! It takes only a minute to prepare and is really great if you're busy with work and don't have time to cook meals everyday. The price-point is very reasonable, compared with other food delivery services I've tried. The even deliver every other day so the food is extremely fresh. It's also possible to order meals with meat as an option. I wanted to make mention of their food in general. Within the past year, I have tried various vegan food services. I am personally against processed food and and frozen food and food that is bland. I have tried VeginOut, 22 Days Nutrition, Daily Harvest, Hungry Root, FoodFlo, Thistle.co, Sunfare, and Splendid Spoon. I am currently on trials for Daily Harvest, Hungry Root and I have continued Splendid Spoon and Thistle.co as my "main-stays" for Vegan. While Hungry Root is a second runner up. I find Thistle.co to be the HEALTHIEST, by far. ESPECIALLY if you LOVE Salads and Bowls. For me, I love having a crunchy salad sometime, but other times, I am craving a warm heated meal. With Thistle.co you get BOTH options. Many of their dishes can be heated or served cold. You usually have the option. While dishes might be labeled "eat for Lunch Thursday or Dinner Thursday" you could easily eat them another day. Meals are delivered every other day so it's easy to switch it up! COMMENTS on each: - VeginOut & 22 Days - too processed, mish-mash of ingredients - Daily Harvest - FROZEN - Hungry Root - OK(but you need to prep and it's very "basic" and "somewhat processed" ingredients, and you need to add your own ingredients sometimes like black beans, to up the flavor)...not "simple" - but simplier than the vegan meal deliveries that send you your own ingredients to cook your own meals from scratch (with pre-proportioned ingredients) - Splendid Spoon - All LIQUIDS (Soups, Drinkables) - Great service and I augment my Thistle.co service w this every week!!! :) - Sunfare - OK but expensive for what you get. I also love how they put the calorie count of the dressings and the salad itself on each container, so you can easily judge (hey, I only want 1/2 the calories/fat of the dressing) on your own, and easily use half the quantity. I am surprised Thistle has gotten so many negative reviews. As far as the delivery goes, I have only had ONE time that it's been an issue, I called immediately, immediately got in touch with someone, and they were very apologetic and I learned a lot on that call. I learned if you call EARLY in the day, they DO HAVE a second delivery time (in case your delivery was somehow missed). For my address, deliveries come around 4 am. So if I call by 8 or 9, they CAN re-deliver by 10. I called, in this case around 11 AM, and it was too late for them to re-deliver and they credited my meals. Needless to say I found them a couple hours later w/ a quick drive down the street. They probably outsource their deliveries, and the drivers take PHOTOS of the delivery (when they deliver it) so the photo helped me realize where my delivery might be. I got the credit, nonetheless! I have NEVER had an issue calling customer service, or emailing them. They have def. upped their customer service game -- they even ask for feedback after EVERY email interaction and I always respond with my satisfaction score. The other thing that blows me away is that one reviewer would complain about TOO MUCH SPINACH in a salad? Seriously? The portions are GENEROUS with Thistle, but if you put spinach in a salad bowl, it takes up a LOT of space. If you put it on the stovetop, which is sometimes recommended for Thistle meals (eat cold/eat warm - its up to you) the Spinach ends up being 1/4-1/2 a cup cooked! Food delivery never comes on time. The drop off is between 8-11pm. The food arrived at 2am. 12:20 am and 11:15 pm. Once one of my orders was also missing food. If you enjoy salads that consistent as a box of lettuce topped with quinoa, beans, and a maybe a vegetable this is the service for you. However this can be made easily at home. Thistle is awesome. I'm eating one of their salads right now!! I have back issues that are aggravated by sugar, dairy etc. so I wanted to find a meal delivery service that provides clean, nutritious meals with plenty of plant-based protein. Thistle does just that. Every Sunday and Tuesday evening, a total of 3 salads (I order lunch meals) are delivered to my door. They're packed full of lentils, garbanzo beans, quinoa, nuts and seeds, and of course lots of tasty veggies. And the salad dressings are to die for! So tasty it's hard to believe they're vegan! You can modify the meals to avoid allergens (for me that's soy, among other things), and can substitute animal protein if you'd like. And sometimes I add some snacks - they have a yummy chia pudding and GF carrot muffin. Also the customer service folks are very friendly, responsive and timely. Delivery and customer service review : it's very frustrating when your food doesn't get delivered and there is no communication about the delivery running late or skipped altogether. This has happened twice since the beginning of March. What is the point of having phone no. for customer care when all you can do is leave a message and nobody gets back to you. I have seen from the reviews that I am not alone in having had delivery problems with Thistle. The bottom line is the food is healthy and excellent, and if they can work out the kinks in their delivery, it will be pretty perfect. ========== I have used Thistle on and off since Feb. 2018, and through the whole pandemic. Their food is reliably fresh and delicious, the app is fun and easy to use, the meals are reasonably priced, and the customer service people are friendly and responsive. Unfortunately, they made a major misstep this week, when they suddenly replaced the delivery window times (which had previously been customizable - mine was 8am-10am) with a 5am(!!)-8am window. For anyone who doesn't live in a house on a safe block, or have a gate code, that now means the delivery driver just leaves the bag of food out on the sidewalk! Needless to say, in neighborhoods like mine (Mission), this is a non-starter. As is waking up at 5am. What really gets me is that despite numerous conversations with Thistle reps about my delivery window, they did not even bother to contact me to see if the change would work. Instead, I got a generic survey that announced the change but did not say when it would happen or what Thistle would do if survey respondents said the new time wouldn't work. Vegan and gluten free! What else needs to be said. Oh, and prepared. I hate cooking but like to eat well. I live in an area where I am forced to eat 90% of my meals at home. I have been getting 8 meals a week (lunch and dinner) delivered for around 6 months now and have been very impressed with Thistle. I'm not 100% vegan, but was merely trying to eat healthier in general without spending an arm and a leg. Also, I'm not the biggest cook, so the alternative for me was to eat out and shop at the hot/salad bar at Whole Foods, which was costing me a fortune. Thistle has basically solved food for me and the quality (mostly organic), portion sizes, flavor and varieties of meals has kept me pleased and wanting to continue the service. My biggest issue and the reason for four stars rating is the plastic packaging. There has to be a more environmental friendly solution than to use plastic packaging for every meal. It is a MAJOR waste! Also, a little bummed about the flexibility of the deliveries. I realize that this must be a logistical nightmare, but would prefer to get the food delivered to my office. Food makes me feel sick. I signed up for a few weeks and I kept assuming there was some other reason I felt bad but every time I ate thistle I got a stomachache. So I left the last container in the fridge, I wasn't planning on taking any more chances and a few weeks later it hadn't gone bad. I threw it out still looking fresh three weeks later. That's not normal for a salad. Honestly the food is super bland and expensive. Too unreliable. I'm only in my second week (fourth delivery) and so far, one delivery was way outside the agreed two-hour window and one was left outside in the rain on a main thoroughfare. Items missing from this last delivery as well. I've just emailed to cancel. Other thoughts: - Breakfast isn't worth it (at $11.5-$12.0 per meal) as you typically get a chia cup or smoothie - Some of the breakfast and/or lunch meals received could be eaten at room temperature, but for 'optimal taste/presentation you should heat them in a skillet' - I don't have time at breakfast to be whipping out a skillet before work, and when at work five days a week there is no work kitchen where I can do that - I went vegan/plant based and there were too many meals that relied on tofu as protein and there's no way to switch out plant based protein unless you switch the entire meal read more

I get the plus meat versions and they are super tasty, fresh, varied, and interesting and a great balance of protein-carb-fats. BUT. And this is a big but. There are delivery and communication issues. Several times my deliveries have come hours after the delivery window and today my 8-10AM order still had not arrived as of 6PM. AND I have no idea why since there are no e-mail or text notifications of any issues. And all calls seem to go to voicemail. And e-mails are not answered until a day or so. So, I have no idea what has happened, when or if my order will arrive, or if I will be charged. I had such high hopes for Thistle, but their meals gave me food poisoning three times in a row, over two deliveries. I don't believe their meals are effectively climate controlled over the course of their delivery. I signed up for this service to make eating healthy easier as I care for my newborn, but instead it has left me ill and struggling to care for her well on multiple occasions. I cancelled my subscription, and today when I received my second to last order, all three of the dinners in the delivery were in already-open packages and had to be immediately discarded. I am out hundreds of dollars and three days of my life because there's something wrong with the quality control process for these meals. Do not use this plant based food delivery service. Delivery hours are from 1030pm-230am. Yes. The middle of the night. You will have to wait up until 230 am to (hopefully) get your meals. If you would rather pick up your food? That's not an option. If your food says it's being delivered however at the last minute you get a notification apologizing for being unable to deliver your food? You have no way of getting your food the next day and also no way to contact the delivery driver. I understand there is a labor shortage which is what the company continues to say when my food doesn't get delivered which has now happened 4 times and I've only been using Thistle since September. As I've told the reps I've spoken with about this issue, I would HAPPILY pay the delivery driver directly if they would offer a safe option to do so. It's unlikely and unsafe for someone to stand outside at midnight with cash in hand to pay thistle delivery drivers. Clearly, Thistle is not paying them enough to stay on the job which is a shame considering how much the service costs. Maybe they could offer a different delivery time so maybe their drivers wouldn't have to be driving all the way from Vacaville at 10pm?! I'm tired of waiting for food that doesn't show. I work early and the convenience of having prepared plant based meals is wonderful when it actually happens. STAY AWAY not worth the price for three reasons: Food is overpriced and tasteless. All of the salads taste the same. They may change one or two ingredients in order to justify the name but it is basically quinoa, a salad green, maybe some old tough blanched green beans and a vinaigrette. The vinaigrettes are awful. I started out as the biggest fan and advocate for this service. I told all of my friends, family, and coworkers about it, encouraging them to try it. The food is generally delicious and the prices are decent, when you consider how much time it saves not having to shop, prep, cook and clean nearly as much. All of that said, the service has been awful. Though very responsive to email, just about every order is missing one or more items. Lately, at least one order a week hasn't even been delivered. The first time this happened and I emailed to complain, I was basically made to feel that it was my fault for not writing specific instructions to the delivery person to buzz my apartment so that I could let them in the gate. When you set up an account with thistle there are two checkboxes 1. okay to leave unattended and 2. okay to ring the doorbell. I unchecked #1, as I live on a busy street and didn't want my food stolen, and checked #2, obviously thinking that would be enough. Clearly, I was unprepared for this level of incompetence. So, following the customer service reps advice, I wrote the following special instruction for the delivery personnel: "If the gate is locked, ring apt 3 and I'll buzz you in." This was last week. The result this week has been 2 missing daily shots in Monday's delivery and no delivery at all today. When I emailed to complain, stating that I'm starting to take this personally, I was, of course, apologized to and my account was credited. But, going on at least the 3rd time my delivery has failed to arrive, and probably double that for missing items, a simple apology is no longer sufficient. I plan my meals around this service, so when it doesn't arrive, I end up spending more time and money than I would otherwise, which is extremely inconvenient. I had this for 3 weeks. Thistle is great if you like quinoa and vinegar. Vegan does not have to be bland nor raw but somehow the chefs at Thistle don't understand that. All of the salads taste the same--quinoa, salad greens, uncooked tough old green beans, and hard cubes of carrots form the base with some added small things to make you think you are getting something different. The salad dressings taste like vinegar--absolutely no imagination. If you are a meat-eater, they will add some poor-quality chicken to the salad and charge you extra for the meal. The ingredients are low quality and low priced ingredients. The presentation is bad--everything looks like slop--or like the meal was dropped on the floor and than scooped up. Not worth the $14 per meal that you are charged. You will be far better off getting salads from Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. Customer service is bad--looks like they are desperate for customers so they can be a little shady. I agree with Rosie W. and may file a BBB complaint if my issues are not resolved. Thistle has changed my life. I am dedicated to healthy eating to keep in shape and feel great. But I work long hours, which makes it difficult to meet my goals. Thistle has made it easy. I order their lunches three days a week, delivered Monday and Wednesday before I go to work. I set my menu the week prior using the app and regularly switch between a wide selection of breakfast, lunch or dinner items, depending on what looks good. We love the food's taste and quality, but we have issues with the delivery about 70% of the time. We have two orders and we either receive only one of two bags, or there are missing meals. It is a real shame, as we order lunch and dinner for two people 5 days a week, and the mismanagement of deliveries is really messing up our food plan for the week on a regular basis. The customer service credits our account straight away, but we are paying for a food service, not to be writing emails about what went wrong and then figuring out what we are going to do for food after the failed deliveries. Dani MS was assigned to my account and took excellent care of me. Every dime on my paycheck is accounted for so making sure I am not paying for something I cant use is critical to my survival in SF. A delicious and convenient option for folks who can't or can't be bothered to cook! I've tried their lunch and dinner as well as juice, snack, soup and shots. I started off with lunch but remembered I am not a salad person (I am not a rabbit), so I switched to dinner which has been great!! For example, last night I had a chicken sausage pasta and the prior day I had red curry chicken. I'm not sure how healthy these entrees are, but at least they're portion-controlled! All you have to do is heat it on the skillet for less than 5 minutes. Thoughts on the add-ons: juices are a bit too sugary, pass on the snacks, shots are amazing and soups are quite good. The only thing is that it's quite pricey. I am getting dinner, soup and bottle of cold brew and it comes out to be ~$25 / meal. I received shipped delivery for two weeks, and was very disappointed in the Thistle offerings I received. I've been a vegetarian for 34 years and was thrilled to finally see a meal delivery seemingly made for me! Thistle's organic, local veggies don't taste as fresh or flavorful as is typical for organic/local, the sweet offerings are overpoweringly sweet; and the sauces are overwhelming and overseasoned. As to this week's delivery-- I have severe gut issues to only two veggies: Green peppers and Broccoli. Out of 4 soups in this delivery - well-known flavors, and none of which would normally contain these two ingredients - 3 contain one or the other of these irritants (and there's no way for me to check ingredients, because Thistle doesn't list them for soups)-- so they are going straight into the trash. If I could better customize what items I want -- and given full disclosure of ALL ingredients -- I might return as a customer. Until then, I'm off to purchase from Thistle's competitors. read more

Overall my experience with Thistle has been good. I like the variety of vegan salads and breakfast options. I had a few minor mishaps, late delivery, leaking ice, hole in bag. I wish they didn't put onions especially red onions in so many salads or I would order more. The food has been fresh and I like the convenience. read more

Ugh. I've been ordering from Thistle for about a month and at first I thought it was ok, decent food, a bit over priced... but its the bay area so I get it. The food was somewhat interesting, some stuff I'd just toss because it was gross but the majority of it was cool. But yesterday after opening my delivery we found a large piece of plastic in a salad. It looked like a piece of the plastic tape ring like when you close a box. I don't know but I'm totally weirded out and cancelled my service. For the amount of money you pay I can put aside the teeny tiny portions but not finding garbage in my food. Quality Control should be fired! read more

I hope Thistle is around FOREVER. The people in charge of menus / recipes deserve a raise. I'm the pickiest person I know (... seriously) and I love everything they come up with. For this reason, I was incredibly skeptical initially, but I'm on the vegan option and, so far, have been absolutely blown away. It's worth mentioning also that their customer service (I've written in once) was responsive to my satisfaction (thank you!). And the delivery folk, especially the ones who wake up early for my 6-8am election, deserve some sort of award. read more
