Great selection of large ceramic pots and service was also excellent. We were helped by Victor, Israel, and a woman at the register whose name I didn't catch. All three were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I have been buying my fruit trees from Thompsons for several years. Apricots, Orange, Lemon, Lime, Apple and just recently Plum, Pear and Cherry. All of my past experiences have been positive except for this last one. I purchased the Plum, Pear and Cherry. I also purchased the soil additive, the vitamins and the other items they recommended for a healthy tree. Planted all trees as suggested by Thompsons. Plum and Pear are looking great, however the Cherry tree appears dead. It is within 20' of the other two trees, (same soil and watering system). Called Thompsons to return tree and get another one. "Sorry, we don't guarantee any of our trees or shrubs". I understand they can't control planting mistakes, however when a customer buys ALL of the suggested products and all the other trees purchased are doing well, it kind of suggests a problem with the tree that is dead. I have been to several landscaping materials yards over the lest few weeks looking for the right color rock for my yard and TBM is by far the largest with the biggest selection of items available and right on the premises. Wear comfortable shoes if you plan to browse as the place easily takes up multiple city blocks (or so it seems) and there are plenty of folks around to help if you want to go directly to what you need. I bought Valori stone for my window surrounds from thompsons my rep was JOSE. I was told by the thompsons rep that all I would need to do is provide my window dimensions and they would do and provide the take off ( amount of stone needed to surround my windows. I agreed to this and my expectations were that they do it all the time and they have been trained on providing take offs for the customer. I did this and have a copy of what I provided. When my stone was delivered it was packaged real nice and placed behind locked gates with dogs insuring that it remained safe and secure. At the time my house was being brown coated (plastering) I did not open my stone which was on 3 pallets for two reasons 1. I didn't want to break anything as it was safest as it was packaged. 2. I also knew that if it remained packaged that it would not recieved sunlight or become faded. When my plastering was done I opened my stone surrounds to be installed. To install the window surrounds requires (4) separate pieces to go around the window I was short 18 pcs on one and 11 pcs on another and several pcs on another. The only pcs they got right were the corners which come made and there were 12 windows so that's 24 corners. When informed of this they asked questions like my house was a commercial site, or someone had stole something. I was informed by Antonio the stone surround take off was complimentary only??? which was never mentioned. Then I was told I could have my pieces in 4 days 5-28-11 but some others in six days....so Saturday comes I go to pick up my pieces and there the wrong color.......there dark gray not tan or NUEZ which has always been my color. I was told by Wes that they would work on the correct my stone that day Sat, Sun and Mon when I called Tues to pick up my stone Antonio said they had just started my order and that it would be ready on Monday the 6th of June. The molds are already made they know the color and they know the amount of pieces they don't care at all. I asked the assist GM if my rep Jose would receive any training in doing take offs her there was no reply. The saddest thing is I have to go back and purchase more Valori stone because there the only ones who make it. So if you go to Thompsons do your own take offs and verify everything because all they will do is back pedal and give you some lame excuse on how there stone surround take offs are complimenatary and when you escalate the issue to managemejnt they do nothing. read more

If i could do no stars i would. I use to be a faithful customer. This place was my favorite place to shop. Ready to buy a Weber BBQ grill. Today we entered the store excited to buy one, as we approached the entrance i saw two male employees in the customer service area. Once i got closer to them i said a friendly, " How you doing folks" They stared at me and ignored the fact that i acknowledge them with a friendly hello. They pretty much rolled there eyes and turned there heads. Then i responded with , "you don't have to say hi if you don't want to" one of the salesman respondent, " my name isnt FOLKS" than turned around laughing with the other salesman. After this incident I made sure they lost my sale for being so rude. Ive been a constant customer for my beautiful backyard supplies. I will never return to this rude place again. read more

I have shopped at Thompsons and Valori many times over the years. I am a landscape designer. I have found them helpful and very thorough in their explanations of product usage and pros and cons of materials. I find it humorous when a homeowner tries to be his own contractor without a proper background in building and construction. Secondly I always check materials when they are delivered. If I have to re- wrap them, I do, but always check delivered merchandise. I actually was looking up their information to give to one of my customers, but felt compelled to write after reading Todd W's silly diatribe. Thompson Building Materials is the Best of the Best. This is an ok supply store, but they do have some quirks that I'm not too crazy about. I was particularly annoyed by the idea that I couldn't return an unused, unopened and completely sale-able piece of merchandise without incurring a restocking fee. I even put the items back on the shelf in front of the sales person to prove the point. No dice it's policy. I also found the staff's ability to assist in the amount of landscaping material required to do a project of a particular dimension left a lot to be desired. If I had followed their recommendations I would have bought 70% more of a rather expensive material than I needed. As it was I had plenty leftover. I found that to be somewhat disappointing. I got much better advice at a competitor. read more

This place is a lot of fun and inspiring. The flower pots are affordable and there is a great selection of plants. There are also many unique plant holders and fountains. I also enjoyed walking around and seeing the fish pond. The staff are friendly too. read more

I recently purchased a planter for our backyard. Unfortunately, the weight of this planter wasn't disclosed, when i asked the worker how much it weighed, he said 1,500 lbs. Well come to find out it weighed 3,000 lbs and I had to purchase a crane to move from my front yard to my back yard. If I had know this planter weighed more than 500 lbs I probably would have never purchased it. Thompson, please disclose the dimensions as well as the weigh, so we can plan ahead it we want it or not. Just something to think about for future customers. Wow, I'm amazed at some of the reviews. I just happened by this place today and thought I was in heaven. They have all sorts of landscape supplies. I went looking for a fountain, in case the one that's in the home I just bought disappears before I actually move in. They have an amazing selection of fountains, outdoor furniture, dog houses, plants, planters, bricks, paving supplies, outdoor art. I was quickly helped and intend to go back as soon as escrow closes and I'm allowed to spend money again. read more

Recently purchased 2 fountains there because their staff was so helpful, specifically Israel. I like to hear what a fountain sounds like before buying one. I am very disappointed in the way I was treated today by staff at the store. I requested to speak with management about a grievance for a mistake they made. I was directed to speak with the office manager only. Staff is in great need of good customer service training. They never attempted to correct their mistake. I will shop at Lowes as they are respectful and own up to their mistakes. read more

I needed some decorative screen block that I had to go thru TBM to buy from the mfg. Orco. And had to pay for it in advance. The block turned out to be trash and TBM was not going to help, but I persuaded them to get another batch, which turned out to be only marginally better. So my advice is to make sure of the quality of the product you are ordering, before you spend a dime, because you're pretty much on your own. read more

This place sucks I drove 2 hrs got to there site at 4:55 five minutes before they close I was knocking on door was told by the most rude employee that they were close did not even bother to give me a sample after getting there on time the check out are bunch of fucking rude people. read more

We went to this place after having gone to about three other stores looing for our product. They had by far the best selection and price hands down. The place is vast and a little overwhelming. I too, was just looking for the phone number but after reading the reviews thought I'd add mine. I am a landscape designer and find that Thompson's is very well stocked with a variety of merchandise. Unfortunately, I have yet to go to Thompsons where there is anything in the way of acceptable service. I have taken clients there only to leave because we could get no one to assist us with a purchase. Too bad; this store is consistently understaffed. I am very disappointed with Thompson's return policy. My wife and I purchased a small wall mounted water fountain, it was only $90.00, but when we got it home we found it was to heavy to mount on our stucco wall, so we returned it. Only to find they charge you a 15% re-stocking fee. That amounts to $13.50 for restocking, I dont even thiink they are paying there employees that much an hour. I could have put it back to where I found it in the first place in about two minutes. Sounds like a good way to make a few extra bucks for your business. Horrible the owner should be embarrassed with his Management, first of all it took me 30 minutes to get help only to find the small amount Blocks I wanted! were special order, so know I wait a week to get them $500.00 later it turns out that my installer said wrong material for the job! my bad but shouldn't I be able to return them with a restocking fee not?? it said so on my receipt 15% on special order but after talking with Juan he let me know I am stuck with them!! remember this is a new product the show on the floor, I begged him to take them back even at 50% restock and still nothing !! This was my first time dealing with Thompson Building Materials, Fontana. It started 9/5 and finally ended today 9/19/2014. It has been terrible. It started with "California Preliminary Notice" we received from them. It showed that $2000 was owed, this didn't make sense. After researching it, it seems a company we hired to do some work for us, was able to sign for items at Thompson, Fontana, without paying for them, as long as our address was used so in the case Thompson did not receive their payment, they could place a mechanics lien on our property. This did not make sense since any companies we have used, the one included in this, have been given deposits to purchase any materials needed for the job. Can you imagine receiving such a notice every time a plumber, painter, electrician picked up parts to do the job you needed! When I contacted the Credit Manager, I requested the invoice be sent to me, it was for $2000. We had no idea if this was even items used for our job, other jobs, or for personal use by the company hired. I was rudely dealt with by the Credit Manager so I contacted their Corporate Office. I was told to speak to that persons Supervisor if I was unable to get it resolved. When I contacted Thompson Fontana again, I was given the "supposed" Supervisor. The situation was explained, I again requested the invoice be sent to me. I was told I would get a call back, which I did not. I called again the next day and left a message. Today I received a call from the Credit Manager, again she was very rude, but she did let me know that all was taken care of and my "Unconditional Waiver and Release" form had been sent. read more
