Very disappointed in the design center. I was told by 2 employees my special order stone would provide me with a 2ft diameter for the firepit i was working on. When i went to place the stone, it did not make a 2ft diameter circle. I went back today 1/19/18 to try and figure out a solution. Was told by another employee the order was correct, yet its not. Then was told by the manager i would not receive any return or store credit because it was special order. I told the manager this is clearly a training issue because 3 employee told me this order was correct, yet its not. As a contractor i spend thousands of dollars a yr at Thompson's, I've never experienced such lack of knowledge by the employees on a product they not only sell, but also refuse to return when their employees have no knowledge of the product they are selling. read more

We come here for all our outdoor needs! We always get great service, but today I came with just my baby (no husband) and everyone bent over backwards to help me. I bought some stuff in the store and they carried it out to my car, even though I could have managed. Then I picked up sand and had multiple guys make sure we were ok as my tailgate wasn't quite closing properly. They have a great selection and are much more reasonable than your standard big box stores. We never shop anywhere else, even with it being 30 minutes away. read more

We are done with Thompson building material. Horrible return policy and terrible customer service. This was our second issue with them. The first issue was an order where they didn't give us all the pieces. We signed off without checking the pallet and when we got home it wasn't all there! We weren't able to get back until a couple weeks and they did not believe us. (I guess they are used a bunch of crooks working with them). So we had to order what we paid for already again. This time, they gave us the wrong size stone. They wouldn't even take it back with the restocking fee! We will find a different place to use in the future. If you're going to use this company you better know exactly what you are ordering and check the size and check it when you get it on your truck! read more

Went here based on reviews from Yelp. Staff outside were helpful. Staff inside, not so much; rude, unable to answer questions, and I felt rushed. I purchased an item and thankfully I paid attention as the cashier inputted a higher price. When i told her that it's incorrect, she said their prices went up again. I pointed out that no where is that indicated in the store nor on the price tag so they have to honor what's clearly labeled on the sticker. She did without fight. Thankfully I also paid attention and questioned why the total was still high. The cashier told me there's now a 3% fuel surcharge on ALL items. So you're paying for higher prices (already recently increased a couple times. plus now there's a 3% fuel surcharge they don't inform you of prior). Please note: on their receipts it indicates that effecitve April 1st, 2022 and April 25th there's another price increase. Ill attach a picture for you to see yourself. I understand prices everywhere are modified, however as a business they should inform you prior. Workers there even admitted that their prices were already high and now it's getting more ridiculous. Im grateful for their honesty and suggestions of where to go for same quality if not better, and less expensive prices. read more

Always worth the drive. All Thompson locations display innovative quality use of masonry, natural stone, tile, landscape products and plants like no other building material location anywhere. Every trip to any of Thompson's locations always gives me ideas for my next project. They have competitive prices and all the employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. There is no doubt this business is a landscaper's dream, however the service is below a one star rating. 80% of the employees are rude, arrogant and will not give you the time of day, especially if you are not fluent in Spanish. If you are fluent in Spanish take a moment to hear them talk behind your back and/or talk behind each other's back at the cashier. Do not be surprised if it seems like you are causing the employees an inconvenience by asking for help. If you do not speak landscaper or builder's language be prepared for them to look at you like you are an idiot. My contractor refused to deal with them as well. I would highly avoid this business if at all possible, unless you are just looking for ideas. If the Better Business Bureau had an undercover team to assess customer service, this should be their first target. read more

This place is a beauty! We are doing a big project on our backyard and by far they have everything you need here... There are many Bbq islands to choose from... A lot of waterfall fountains and some that are custom made! Every material necessary for hardscape! And the design are a beauty! The potted plants and even the accesories for the garden are beyond! I've purchased over $50,000 of stone veneer, concrete pavers and other related items from the Fontana store in the past year. The yard is huge and has a ton of inventory but almost all of my orders had to be special ordered from the manufacturer with a short lead time for delivery. The guys on the order desk are pretty knowledgeable about their products but some are definitely better than others. George and Jesse were the most helpful. Sometimes I felt forgotten about while for status of orders. Language barrier creates additional difficulties in communicating with yard crew. read more

Been there a couple of times recently for some rocks. They have a really good selection, and the prices seem reasonable. The main reason for the 5 stars is for the customer service. We had Jose help us both times, and this guy is great. He's knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. This guy is the definition of what great customer service should be like. Great selection. We had a issue with a defective stone, that Thompson carried, and was used in our new pool installation. Dustin and the rest of the staff at Thompson handled it professionally. Every situation is different, but our experience was excellent. They worked, on our behalf, with our pool contractor and the stone manufacturer to fix the situation. We went in a couple of months ago & ordered quite a bit of material. We set up a delivery date, which we had to change, but gave them a weeks notice. We have had two different delivery dates set up & they didn't show either day. They came a day later on the first one, but we weren't here to accept delivery. This is a huge inconvenience & frankly, I am rather surprised a company of this size is so flaky. How do they stay in business? Hopefully we will get our materials....eventually read more

Customer service non existent walked around for almost an hour trying to pick stone for my pool without any one even batting an eye at us. They all just zipped by on there carts. Once I did get help it was obvious the poor kid had just been thrown to the wolves didn't know the slightest thing about his product. As we neared a decision we started checking price and availability, nothing was available, one product they had on the wall was completely discontinued!! Couldn't even order it. Why leave it up then? We went to Thompson's today to buy stacked stone for our fireplace. We had already been there and decided what we were going to buy. Mr Castro helped us and was fabulous!!! He was so informative and helped us to finalize our decision. Even took us out in his golf cart to look at the stone in person on the pallets in their yard. My brother and I took our mother here for Mother's Day (She likes to pick plants every year). I hadn't been to Thompson's in a while and I was pleasantly surprised by all of the changes. They have a much larger selection and they have really stepped up their customer service. They were handing out Mother's Day gift bags and had free hot dogs and sodas. Everyone was very friendly. They do face painting, Ruffles, and some foods, not to mention great products that I wish to buy them all! I also find their employees to be very helpful. I was not impressed with the nursery at all! Not one person around to ask about the plants/flowers. Many plants had been there so long the roots out grew the pots they were in. Ants were everywhere. If it were possible to give a -star rating I would. Save your time, save your patience, save your money, but above all save your sanity. Product line available is low grade quality, I've seen better quality material at Home Depot, Lowes, or even Walmart. As far as customer service, it doesn't exist. The two women who I had the misfortune to encounter had the integrity, and work ethics of sewer rats. They were rude and had obviously forgotten everything they learned in kindergarten. I must say that the customer service was phenomenal. I was looking for 4 large pots to decorate by back yard. Thompson's in Fontana had the ones that I liked the best. It was also on sale which was the icing on top of the cake. Each for the 4 pots weighed at least 50 pounds a piece. After I purchased them, one of the employees named Victor Pineda was really helpful. He helped to pack up the pots really carefully using cardboard to separate each of them so they don't bump and chip. He then wrapped them in plastic wrap to bind to one another so they don't bump into each other or shift around in the bed of the truck. He paid lots of attention to detail to make sure NOTHING happened to my pots until I can get them home. I really appreciate him. People that provide such good service and pays so much attention to detail are hard to find. I really appreciated him. read more
