Thompson Chocolate is tucked away on a side street in Meriden. They sell and manufacture chocolate. The store has a wide variety of chocolates that include sugar-free, as well! The boxes are well-labeled, and the prices are reasonable. I went in on Feb. 22, and they were already stocked with St. Patrick's Day and Easter candy. I bought sugar-free dark chocolate cherry cordials for myself, and a second box for a welcome gift. The staff was very friendly. I recommend coming here if you want/need to buy chocolate for a gift, or for yourself!

I always stop here when im in the mood for chocolate. Nothing beats a hometown homemade batch of chocolate. They have regular and seasonal chocolates here that are made on-site. Good prices and the employees friendly. It's small inside , but filled with plenty of treats to pick from..

OMG the dark chocolate break-apart bar with almonds is amazing! I have never had such fresh crisp almonds in a candy bar!

I found their offerings interesting and inventive but I wasn't blown away. I like that the pastries are properly baked so they are darker and more crisp than most places. The guava one was good, but very messy as there were square, white chunks of filling mixed with the guava preserves so they were loose and fell out when I bit into it. The Cinnabon style bun was completely cooked through, which I appreciate since the actual Cinnabons tend to be doughy inside. These ones are glazed with a bit of icing instead of cream cheese frosting; I enjoyed it, but I would have liked a little more. The chocolate croissant was generously filled with a good, dark chocolate, just the right amount, just loose enough to coat the inside. I didn't taste any orange in the orange poppy muffin and I'm not a fan of strusel topping on a muffin, as I like muffin tops. All in all not bad, I will give it another try if next time I have a weekend day off.

Once again I had difficulty choosing a breakfast pastry because all looked so mouth watering. This time I settled on a pair of blueberry buns that proved to be larger than expected so on returning home my wife and I decided to share one and save the other for the following day. Unfortunately the outside of the bun was too dense and flavor lite though the much smaller, interior part, was as delicious as expected. I will no doubt be returning in the not too distant future to sample more of their delicious pastries as should you.

If you've seen the viral drinks floating around social media, you've probably heard about Paradise…read moreFrappe. I finally decided to check it out and it definitely lived up to the hype. First, a quick tip: their winter hours are Tuesday-Sunday from 12 PM-7 PM, so plan your visit accordingly. The menu is full of creative fruit drinks, pastries, and trendy desserts. They have flavors like strawberry, mango, passionfruit, piña colada, and even Dubai-style desserts that you see all over social media. On my visit I ordered three items: * Boba Strawberry Passionfruit Lemonade * Coconut Passionfruit Frappe * Dubai Sundae The coconut passionfruit frappe had the perfect consistency; smooth, creamy, and refreshing. The coconut and passionfruit flavors balanced each other perfectly and tasted very tropical. The boba strawberry passionfruit lemonade was also packed with flavor. It had fresh strawberry pieces, lemon slices, and passionfruit pulp. Just be careful of the lemon seeds. It even had a fun little surprise on top; a candy shark and what looked like Nerds candy, which made it extra playful. Inside, the shop gives off tropical island vibes. It's a small space but there is seating available. Today Friday the 13th, there were only two people ahead of me, music playing in the background, and a TV on. The wait wasn't long and the staff was very friendly and helpful. For the three items I spent about $45, but considering the fresh ingredients, presentation, and portion sizes, I would say the price is reasonable. If you enjoy colorful drinks, tropical flavors, and viral-style desserts, Paradise Frappe is definitely worth checking out.

I had to check this place out after seeing their viral fruit pastries on TikTok. I asked the woman…read moreat the counter how long they've been open--she said three years--and the line was nearly out the door, so they're clearly doing well. That said, the experience was pretty confusing. There were photos of drinks on the wall but no pricing. The only thing I noticed with pricing was a Dubai chocolate drink listed for $30! They didn't have the fruit pastry flavors listed inside; we only noticed them posted outside on the window after we had already ordered, and the flavors online didn't exactly match what was in-store. The biggest shock was the price. The fruit pastries were $12-$15 each, which felt excessive. I've been to plenty of high-end spots for dessert, and this was easily the most expensive I've paid. When I asked about the pricing, I was told everything is made in-house--which I would expect at that price point anyway. I ended up getting the piña colada and mango fruit pastries, along with a passionfruit lemonade that was also $12. Everything tasted good and fresh, but quite sweet and, in my opinion, overpriced--especially for Meriden, CT. Overall, tasty, but not something I'd go back for given the cost and lack of clarity in the ordering experience.
