Today, we received some devastating news about her cancer and so after her appointment we went to the park to have a moment with her before driving back to Greensboro. We were kicked out. We've never seen any signs nor has anyone ever approached us about no dogs being allowed. We've seen many other people with their little dogs as well. It felt like a punch in the gut. A place we went for solace just added to our pain.

They are constantly blaring music above appropriate decibel levels. Sometimes before 8am on a Saturday and passed 9pm on weekdays. To the point the noise rattles our homes and blares through the walls. I moved to this area thinking it would be quiet and peaceful, it has been anything but. I reached out to Eunice Donnelly the park and Rec "director" and she did nothing to resolve the matter. She kept directing me to their website for events which half the events they've run this summer aren't even posted on the website! The park is great, the directors and management team are terrible however. She should be removed. They need a true lesson in organization and also respect- the golden rule. They don't care about our community and that is clear now.

Behind the park is a beautiful waterfall. The photographer was able to use 6 different backgrounds, including the waterfall. Other couples were taking pictures there as well but when we first came it was just two. When we left it was about 7. Plenty of space though that everyone was still able to get great shots. It's on a very busy corner but faces Kings Dr. Free parking in the metropolitan garage, easy walk regardless of the construction that gets in the way. Across the street there's parking but also towing signs. Lots of people were taking a chance though. Caddy corner from the park is a shopping plaza with a few restaurants, stores etc. After we finished with the pictures I enjoyed shopping in Marshalls in the garage.

It's a very small park and it's mostly an open grassy area with minimal trees/shade. Luckily, there are some trees that provide shade around the perimeter of the park and there's small tables set up with chairs. This park was a little crowded for my normal preferences, but we were able to get a table closer to the greenway which was further away from most people who were along the Kings Drive section of the park. The best time to visit this park is for the Kings Drive Art Walk in the spring.

It's in super cute 4th Ward, literally 2 houses up from Alexander Michael's where of course we had to stop for lunch. I'm sure in the spring, it will be so pretty with all the leaves and flowers out, but in early March it wasn't that exciting, although it's fun to see the uptown skyline through the trees. There is a cool spray-painted mural on the brick wall along the back of the park, a little gazebo, swings, slides, monkey bars, and a smaller play-area for younger kids. It's also fenced with a cute little picket fence, which is a plus in my book. Cute park, especially if you're close by.

Open since April 2017, Fairview Park's main feature is the fabulous walking trail that loops around…read morethe lake. Each loop is a quarter mile. There is a very nice playground for the kids with a restroom building that was unlocked this morning that has a water fountain. You'll also find a large covered pavilion with picnic tables. Wanted to go for a jog the other day and didn't quite feel like driving over to Concord so I…read morewhipped out the old smartphone. I found this place by simply putting "parks near me" into Google. Sure enough this place is less than 10 minutes away and I had no idea it even existed. It's a cute little park with one big soccer field, a decent sized parking lot and two (connected) trails. The trail on the right is actually one end of the Mallard Creek Greenway. Off the top of my head I'm not sure how far up that goes but I've been on other portions of it before so I know it goes well into Charlotte. The path on the left is the reason I like this park so much. It is simultaneously the best and worst feature of this place. Why is it the best? This path goes for about a half mile back in to the woods on a massive wooden bridge/boardwalk. Most of the time your only maybe three feet off the ground, though the portion over the creek is probably twenty feet from bridge to creek bed. Despite this, the way the trees and terrain are layed out, if your running down the path looking straight ahead it's almost like your running through tree tops. It's really neat. The reason it's also the worst feature is the state this wonderfully cool bridge is in. It's all wooden and a lot of the boards could use some love. Several spots near the start have been worn significantly enough that you need to watch your footing when running. There are also a few places with boards missing completely from the railing and I'm pretty sure at least one piece had some nails sticking up. It's a shame it isn't better taken care of, but I assume this place just doesn't get the traffic to justify better maintenance. I think it's still worth a visit for the great little hidden trails, just keep your eyes open and your feet steady if you plan to run.
