I'm giving 5 stars for Tanya. NOT THE CAMPGROUND. She works at the campground and helped us with a reservation issue. We asked for assistance at the ranger station and were completely dismissed. Having been Elite members for almost 4 years, this was quite disturbing. Tanya went out of her way to help us and her efforts are most appreciated. As for the campground, the change to assigned campsites is terrible. We should be able to pick our own site. I give the campground maybe 2 stars. I'm sure I haven't met all the staff but most of the ones I have, are rude and want to nitpick everything. read more

Excellent place with top notch amenities. This year has been exceptional with MANY positive changes - especially to staff. The new Manager, Robert is absolutely phenomenal - always seen out and about, wants to hear feedback (good and bad), open to new ideas, treats the staff and visitors well. Mary is GREAT in Rec. She's taken coal and formed a diamond! With a messed up budget she still made this year one of the best I've seen with outside the box ideas, inclusive atmosphere, great crafts, etc. Great work TTCB! read more

Rules changing that are Definetly a breach of contract, corporate says one thing local says different. I highly encourage people to look at contract and call Chesapeake to verify before staying and buying membership read more

I would give this a 0 but can't. I've been going here for over a decade and things have gone down the drain. Half of the workers abuse their power and yell and accuse you for things you haven't done. They change the rules every day it seems coming up with stupid rules, i recommend you not going here and going to another resort. read more

Overrun by annuals who run the place. Management,Coreen, and the rangers,Donna and the rest, are grumpy and less than helpful. they ignore rules that are broken like dogs not on leads, refrigerators outside RV's and in storage compartments that have been rewired for smaller refrigerators, fences put up. The best sites are are taken by annuals the others are unlevel and muddy when it rains. The water and electricity do not work consistently. the amenities are overgrown with grass,dirt and in disarray. There seem to always be jelly fish in the river where folks want to swim. Noisy. Looks more like a tacky trailor park with all the shelters and stuff outside at the annual sites. Hounded by management to leave a good review on yelp so they get more money for events. There is an Rv cleaning business there that was washing the Rv across from me and that spry got on my car which was parked across the road. Potholes, lots of potholes. read more

Staff for the most part is rude (mainly the females in the offices and female rangers) most of the cleaning staff and the guys in maintenance are really nice and will go out of the way for the people ...always takes forever to get anything fixed...like 2 years on the dock, 2 years on and off with the hot tub, been forever issues with the power, mold in the buildings and even the bath houses took forever to do any upgrades and now they are saying that the game room is going to be removed all together. They are trying to say they are now a family friendly resort but ask the people and they will tell you they don't want anyone having any fun. TTCB is all about the money they can get and that is all they care about. Even the staff there talks bad about the campground and the ones in charge. Williamsburg is much more friendly without all the drama from the staff like TTCB and they actually show how much they care about their guest everyday, just go check them out and see the difference for yourself or ask anyone who has been there. As for TTCB, we have camped there over 25 years and it has done nothing but rise in price and drop in quality over the years and the people that have been pushed away and treated like crap is just degusting. Not to mention all the water and corner lots that used to be for the ones traveling and off limits to annuals are all now lease out to annuals at top dollar. First, this is a membership RV park. Typically you can't stay there unless you are a member so this will be of little interest to most people. Second, most who stay there stay in their RV's, but there are cabins and we stayed in one of those. So this is a review of staying in one of their rental cabins for a week. You should expect rustic but it was in many ways a good rustic. Good bed. Clean. Adequate room. There were no screens in the windows but there was a good air conditioner. We had a nice view of a small lake with lots of turtles and some fish, which could be caught and released. You can go to their website to see what amenities they provide so I won't list them, and we didn't use a lot of them. People were friendly. There's room to hike and a river and small lakes to enjoy. We did encounter two problems. First the appliances are old and didn't work so well. But they worked. Second internet access is only in the "lodge". There's wi-fi there but it's slooow. I expect when a lot of people try to use it, it's terrible. But we had a pleasant week there; got a lot of reading done and saw some sights. We may well go back. Btw the map provided here is off just a little, but if you get the larger map the Thousand Trails Preserve is on it, close to the pin. read more

Here we are back again. The people are as friendly as ever and the grounds are well kept. Last year they had a Jazz festival here and this year a chili BBQ cook off. Not to many showed up for the cook off. This is really a great park and we look forward to coming back in the future. read more

We have camped here for going on 2 years. It is the camp ground that we compare every other place to. We love it here, huge sites, friendly staff, and we had our wedding reception weekend here. The front office staff was not very reliable with helping us with our plans. Sandi is the Activities Director, she is amazing, she took over and ran everything for us. With all the wedding craziness she was friendly, helpful and made us feel like part of her family. The food she and her staff made was amazing. She did lots of extra little thing that made our wedding weekend more amazing then we thought. All in all a great place with great people. I highly recommend this camp ground. P.S. This park needs major repairs. First. The sites need grading and possibly some gravel. Even with jacks we were unable to level the RV. Second. The park was very obviously designed before large units became the norm. Getting around was awful and it took 3 tries to get into a PULL THROUGH site. When I pay for pull through, that's what I expect to get. Third. They request that the sewer hookup on site only be actually used when you're about to pull out. Considering that raw sewage leaked out of the concrete pad surrounding the sewer hookup I can see why. If that's not fixed soon the state health department will shut them down. Fourth. Even McDonald's gives free WiFi. Having to pay extra for both cable and WiFi is just obscene. On the good side the pool and other amenities were really great and it's pretty close to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens and Water Country. read more

We stayed here with our 3 kids. We rented a cabin. They were so dirty and smelled there is 1 bed room with 1 set of bunk beds along with a double bed. The room was so small. The pull out sofa was so gross we had to put a sheet over top of it just to sit on. The mattress was so dirty we couldn't even use it. The spiders and ant were all over the cabin. Everything is very far away. The closest store is 15 to 20 minutes away. Williamsburg is over an hour away. The pool had a green tint to it. The views of the river were beautiful. Not a place to take young kids very little to do to entertain them. read more

Quite a nice park for Thousand Trails/ELS/Encore members and I hear they accept nonmembers when there is space available. Full hook-up RV sites and nice tent area too. Has a small private lake plus shore line on the Chesapeake Bay. Boat launching ramp too. read more

This place it OUT OF THE WAY, but that makes for a nice secluded area in which to camp. However, the lots are right on top of each other and there isn't much of a camping feel to it. They have a camp store (with ice cream by the scoop), a pavilion that hosts events (like dancing, games, etc), two pools, fishing lakes, and a boat ramp that provides access to Piankatank River (who knew this even existed, it's a direct link to the Chesapeake Bay though). There are some lots that have permanent residents, but most of the people that come here are staying temporarily. When you get there, they let you look around and choose your site before committing to anything. Overall, a nice clean campground. read more

I am the District Outbound Youth Leader of Rotary and I took 10 Teenagers to the Thousand Trails in Gloucester Virginia in June 2014 for an Outbound Retreat. We stayed in one of the cabins and it was very nice. I did not expect to have a full kitchen, great bathroom and living room with AC and Big screen TV w/Cable. It was a WONDERFUL Experience! The weekend weather was hot and muggy! So to jump into one of the beautiful pools was great! I would recommend this to all. But, I really wanted to compliment one of the Lead Staff, Lisa. I had never been to this place and she helped me from start to finish. Even from her sick bed she went way above the call of duty to be sure our needs were met. Had a great three day weekend at thousand trails. The campground has Nice mix of wooded and full sun sites to accommodate everyone's tastes. Almost all are full hookup and quite a few are right on the water. The entire campground is well groomed. They have a pretty nice game room with all the staples (Ping pong, Pool, Foosball, Arcade games, Air Hockey). My wife was really happy to find a kids free pool to relax next to. They also have a separate family pool. They have a fully stocked store that sells hand dipped ice cream and a kitchen that, As far as I could tell, Only sells Pizza and Salads. I didn't get a chance to sample it though. There are plenty of places to go fishing including a couple nice docks. There are about 40-50% seasonal campers here. They can get a bit rowdy at night but quieted down around quiet hours. Really friendly staff also. Only disappointments are its location. There is literally nothing around it for miles. Closest thing I could find is Gloucester Courthouse which is about 25 min away. Everything else is a hike. so be prepared. If your looking for a place to relax though.. This place fits the bill perfectly. read more

Traveled from NY with 3 kids as a family vacation. When we arrived, although a beautiful area, it was a disaster from the start. I would pay zero attention to the other review if you have children. First off, there are no activities during the week. (staying for a week that matters) Both pools were closed down for maintenance (you would think they would have told us this before we made the trip upon reservation) I inquired about the lake and i was told that it is infested by jellyfish and chances were high that my kids would get stung. I brought my children down to the lake and i saw a three jellyfish within 3 ft of their fake "shore" . I checked in by 9am and checked out by 12pm. We traveled to the sister resort in williamsburg where it was amazing. It was small, but family oriented. My recommendation is that if you have never been there, it is not worth going. Heed my warning! This place is not for children! read more

Thousand Trails is some sort of membership campground, but we are not members, we were given a free night at an RV show. We stayed two nights-$56 per night (one was free). First, it is a beautiful location--right on the water with a nice waterfront grassy area for all to use. Sites were not clearly marked, not maintained at all, some had fire rings, some did not, gravel has not been put down in decades. Sewer hook ups were in pretty bad shape, to say the least leading to some strong odors around the campsite. The pool area was lackluster-not nearly enough chairs. I'm not sure what the deal was with the pool water-it was yellow and the chemical levels were clearly not right--one of the worst pools I've been in. Other campers we talked to said this was one of the nicest Thousand Trails campgrounds they had been to???? Overall, it looks like a campground that hasn't been maintained at all. Which is too bad, because it really is a beautiful location!! We certainly are not interested in purchasing a membership and will most likely return. Virginia has so many other campgrounds to choose from that are in much better shape! read more
