I'm not going to lie, looking at the Yelp reviews had me SOOO nervous but it was raining really hard, I didn't have an umbrella, and Threading & Beauty was right across the street. Came in for eyebrow threading & I was really pleasantly surprised. The woman who did my brows was extremely thorough - getting all the little hairs above my brows (almost close to my hair line!!!) and all the small hairs in between my brows. It was probably the most thorough eyebrow threading I've ever gotten. Paid with card - It cost $10 and some change & then tipped in cash. Some places in the area charge $5-$8 but for how thorough they were, I'd gladly come back here again!! read more

We thought we were going to thread when we stopped in here. I was surprised by the price-my lady in the burbs charges $10 for eyebrows. If I had written this review the day of the threading, my review would have been much nicer-about 4 stars. However, my eyebrows were irritated for a week after the threading which never happens to me and leads me to think the place is dirty. In addition, the design was very awkward. As it fills in, it just looks worse. It's on my skip list now. read more

(CORRECTION: I originally posted this review under Thread Salon, which is 160 E. 33rd, and I realized today that the salon I went to was ACTUALLY on 159 E. 33rd). Yes, there are two threading salons across the street from each other! Now I'll have to go to Thread to be fair)! I went to Threading & Beauty yesterday for my maiden voyage into eyebrow threading. The location is right around the corner from my new office, so Thread gets two big thumbs up for convenience. I am also very pleased with the end result. Instead of scraggly caterpillars, I have lovely face-framing arches, and Mona listened and did not leave my brows too-thin. Well done. Now, I hate to say it, but the salon, which is otherwise nicely appointed, has a lingering smell to it, which seemed to me like body odor. Not gonna lie, that wasn't so great. It's not a slap-you-in-your-face-stink kind of smell, thank goodness, but still not ideal for a beauty business. The other negative is the indisputable amount of pain this method inflicts, at least in my case (and confirmed by a few co-workers who have also visited). Especially because Mona was shaping my brows carefully and often removing one hair at a time, I found myself cringing more than once. For me, it was way more painful than plucking or waxing. However, it was done within 10 minutes, and by helping Mona pull my skin taut (which she instructed me on how to do), the pain subsided a bit. Again, I was really pleased with the results, and because of them, I'll definitely return. Better yet, it was just $6 pre-tip, which is downright cheap compared to the $30ish I occasionally drop when I visit the all-powerful hair-removing goddess Robin Evans in her Soho studio. I also got a frequent flyer punch card, so I think my eighth visit will be free. Yippee! Oh yeah, one other funny side effect: After leaving, I had to keep batting / wiping away all of the recently-shed eyebrows that had fallen onto my eyelashes. It was as if my brows had just rained into my eyes. I'm sure it was a very attractive look. Net, net: I recommend this place for the results and the value, but the atmosphere (and odor), along with the ouch-factor mandate that I take off a few stars. Just keepin' it real! read more

I absolutely can not recommend this threading salon. I too came here based on the recommendation of a friend, so perhaps I just was unlucky with the woman who did my threading but... -- VERY unsanitary. I broke out between my eyebrows and around my upper lip within 5 hours of leaving this salon - coincidence? Most likely not. I never saw the woman wash her hands and the post-treatment creme she spread on me was straight out of a (probably bacteria infested) tub. -- Eyebrow thickness was not even, plus there were missed hairs between my brows after I inspected closely after getting home. -- Missed a patch of hair on my upper lip - come on it's not that big of a surface to go over thoroughly! The only good thing about this salon is that the women working there had a very "sisterly" vibe. It's a no frills place which I would have liked, but I'm afraid I'm not going to give them a second shot. read more

Hello. I just returned from Threading & Beauty Solutions. They will be my goto in the NYC area. I am in the middle of transitioning all of my services to NY from NJ. I'm already in love with my mani/pedi people. I'm still looking for a reasonable hair cutter but in the interim, I have found my threading location. I have been threading for 15 years and the prices I have seen lately is simply ridiculous. The threading custom is thousands of years old and as a culture, they do not come close to charging each other what they are currently charging the general public. I will take into consideration the price of renting a location in the tri-state area. That said, I decided to give these guys a call because they have some of the cheapest prices I've seen. The location isn't serene and that's ok - I'm just getting my eyebrows and upper lip done. I was serviced by Sheri. She listened to my EXPLICIT instruction and made suggestions along the way. As long as the person doing my brows understands that I do not want skinny brows, then I am fine. I do not want to be asked questions that to me, are 101 when it comes to brow maintenance. I expect them to be trimmed and I expect hairs growing outside my shape to be taken off. They treated one hair at a time and this let me know our relationship would go far. I believe I read some reviews about body odor and I have to say that again, with the culture - its a given. Its 10 minutes for God's sake! Anyway, I hope I have helped someone with deciding whether to give them a try. I paid $6 for the brow and $5 for upper lip. After tip, this was money well spent. read more

I live on the Upper East Side and commute just to have my eyebrows done here. Always! Silly me, I plucked my own eyebrows due to lack of time to get to go to a salon. That gradually misshaped my eyebrows. For the past three or four consistent weeks, I have been going out of my way to have this salon thread them and slightly reshape them too. My eyebrows look great! I definitely will be staying away from the tempting tweezers and making it a mission just to come by. They did a great job in adjusting them. Thank! read more

my eyebrows have never looked so great! this place is fantastic and definitely affordable -not to mention around the corner from my office :) i first went here over a year ago and have never gone anywhere else since. everytime i leave i feel transformed, my eyebrows look natural and have a beautiful shape to them - unlike other salons i've been to where i've walked out with paper thin eyebrows with a high arch. i definitely recommend this place and they really take pride in their work, so they take their time with each client and don't let you leave until your eyebrows look perfect. and the best part of all is all the compliments i get on my eyebrows from friends and families :) read more

Usually I really like this place but after my most recent visit I realized there's a big difference in results depending on which technician you get. I got a new woman this time and asked that she keep my eyebrows the same size, just trim them and clean the arch up. I couldn't see the results well while there because my skin was pretty red so it wasn't until I was home I realized that she had removed a lot of my eyebrows and hardly trimmed them. So the few hairs I do have are curling over. I look ridiculous and I have my sisters wedding in a week. I believe the good technician is a little bit shorter with curlier hair- wish I knew her name so I could point you in her direction and you can avoid this disaster. read more

This review is not for Threading and Beauty Solutions, but for NAS(nasreen). SHE IS AMAZING. Her talent is uncomparable to her competitors-she blows them all out of the water. She is quick and painless. Naz is also a delight to to talk to. I geniunely look forward to meeting with her on a weekly basis to just chat, catch up and I even sometimes get advice from her :) If you are new to threading, she will talk you through the process. If someone messed your eyebrows up, she will help you fix them. I HIGHLY recommend Nas for both males and females. She is AMAZING! read more

I was going to go to thread across the street, but they were awfully busy that day - so I popped into here instead. I had a pleasant, experience. They were pretty busy while I was there, and seemed to have a pretty stable client base, which tells me that they are pretty dependable and great. Their prices are also REALLY reasonable. I was pretty impressed with my services, I got my eyebrows done REALLY well by a lovely young lady. My only complaint was that she was a tad slow, and took her time doing my eyebrows - she stopped a few times to help out answering the phones, etc. That part was a tad annoying, but seemed like they were short staffed that day, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! Really, I am not joking. First of all, the waxing room is just downright dirty. ANd i am being generous here. Worse even, the lady waxing my arms ripped the skin OFF my arm in several places. I am not exaggerating here. If i could upload pics, i would. both my arms have HUGE sections where the skins is literally broken. I ran to my dr to see if i needed to get a tetanus shot. Do not go here unless you have a solid health plan, and are trying to give yourself infections of all sorts. read more

It depends on who you get. I live on this block and I've been to this salon a few times. I went yesterday, though, and I am very worried about sanitation. The lady who did my brows removed a lot of random hair (she basically did my forehead and the tiny, light hairs above my eyelids.) I'm not sure why she did this. She touched my face directly a lot and her hands were super sweaty. It was really uncomfortable. Also, when she applied the ointment, she did it with her hands directly. Most of the women who've threaded my eyebrows use a paper towel. I'm assuming the thread was unused. I actually didn't look, but I've never had a technician not use a new thread. Fingers crossed. Anyway, I'm concerned because I have tiny red marks and bumps on my eyes now. That hair should not have been removed and my skin was clearly broken. I'm very worried that this lady may have had something on her hands. Did she get my blood on her fingers when she put the gel on my brows? Did this happen with other people? In my opinion, not worth the risk. :( read more

The first time i went i saw Nas? , she is one of those "i know what better for our face than you do" type. I get that she has been threading for a long time, but i wanted to try something new and she didn't listen and gave me what shse wanted anyway...bad experience, wasn't gonna go back. A month later, my sister drags me there to the other girl, swearing by her, her name is Shireen. Gave me exactly what i wanted ! And an amazing 3 layer facial ! This place is amazing. I've been coming here for about a year now. Every single person who I've had has done an amazing job. And it is super affordable! They have never upcharged me. If anything, they dissuade me from waxing/threading certain places. Once this place was closed and I had to go across the street to the other threading salon and they botched my eyebrows! Don't judge this place by the outside. This threading salon is lightyears better in terms of quality and the beauticians than the one across the street. They really take their time to do your eyebrows well no matter how many people are waiting and are such pleasant ladies. Do yourself a favor and come in and try any of their services. Stopped in here somewhat randomly as I needed to do my brows and most places were closed. Was very pleased. I had already penciled in my brows and just asked to have them cleaned up to match the shape I drew. The woman who was there did a great job, and it was quick and well priced (less than $7). I always use an acne wash right after to avoid skin irritation, so can't speak to that. But overall, was very pleased. read more

I found out about Thread on Yelp and was excited to give it a try. I had my 1/2 off coupon too. Went early Saturday morning, and it was empty except for one customer and one employee. She didn't answer my smile and 'hello, i'm here for threading', just gave me a look. I watched with growing misgivings, while the employee took an excrutiatingly long time with the customer's eyebrows. She plucked each hair painstakingly slow, and more than 4 times her thread broke, and she had to get another one. After more than 10 minutes of waiting, I was growing antsy. Plus, the interior is extremely slovenly, and she was using natural light, which wasn't the greatest on this cloudy day. Then a back door opened, and another customer and employee walked out. She had done a wax. I waited another 10~15 minutes while they chatted, and finally I walked up and said 'Can you thread my eyebrows?'. The employee barely glanced at me, and did not seem to be in any hurry. She said 'ok, wait'. So back I went to sit down. At this time, I should've left, and my boyfriend said we should leave as well. But the place had such great reviews. So I waited some more, and finally after almost a half hour, the women said 'come' and beckoned to me. Which was rude, since her English is fine. At this point, the other customer was finally done with her threading. Wow! Anyhow, I sit down, and after I sit down, she jerks the chair, and it goes flat, so I literally fall down. No warning! This happened while she was threading. She also seemed rather slow in her threading, and broke a few hairs instead of pulling. The phone rang, she stopped the threading to go pick it up, and then continued talking on the phone and threading me somehow. She spoke so loud my ears rang, and then the threading was over. I looked and saw that she had missed patches here and there. I told her to do those. She redid them, and then put aloe on my eye area, but also in my eye. Instead of putting it on the eyebrow area, she put it like an eye cream, on my eyelids, and eyeball! At this point, I just wanted to leave. I gave her my coupon, and she said that I was in the wrong place, but then took the coupon and said she would take it anyway. So the price was $4 and I gave her a $2 tip. A total of $6. After I gave her the cash, she said as we were leaving, that their store is normally $6 and not $8. I felt totally scammed, she should have told me before I gave her the money. If I had known this was not Thread, and some other place, I would have left. It was my fault for mistaking it, but I would not have given her $3 tip for a $3 service. Oh, and my boyfriend says my eyebrows are crooked and there is a patch left between my eyebrows. I have been to random places that are $6 to $7 dollars and this has never happened. Please be aware of this place. And as this location is out of the way for me, although I saw the actual Thread across the street, I think I will just be going to Shobha from now on where I definitely know I will have a good experience. read more

I honestly cannot say enough good things about Threading & Beauty Solutions. I've been coming here for almost three years now and have never had a negative experience except the occassional wait which is a.) unavoidable and b.) so worth it. They've had a couple of girls come and go but that's no matter. The only person you need to see there is Nas. Nas does the most amazing job and really invests in your eyebrows. She will tell you what shape is right for you and will help you to get them there if you are committed. I'm astonished at how some people have rated this salon based on length of time and amount of pain. Threading is more painful than waxing, yes, but that's not the salon's fault. It also does not take off the top layer of skin as waxing does and allows your technician more precise control. Like so many reviewers said, do not let appearances fool you- the place is dated but currently undergoing renovations and bottom line is that I don't care what my salon looks liek I care what it makes me look like. I can't take ownership of my eyebrows anymore. Whenever I'm asked about my eyebrows I tell people they are not mine, but Nas's. I'm complimented almost daily and would follow her anywhere if ever she left. The tricky thing is that she gets busy and does a lot of body waxing so at times it can be difficult to get in and not have to wait but all of us Nas customers understand and stick together.
