Have been to Erie twice so far this year and kept hearing rates about this place. One of our party called the day before to insure they were open, we headed down and - no signs, not open! Nothing on their web site. Later, found some workers hadn't shown up. I understand the problems getting people back to work, I really do. I understand restaurant workers can be unreliable. What I don't understand are businesses who don't attempt to warn customers of unforeseen problems. This isn't the first such incidence according to the locals I mentioned this to. The owner/manager doesn't have access to the web site when problems arise? Can't put a sign on the door? Unacceptable. read more

Here I am 7+ years later and 1,600 miles away reminiscing about Three B Saloon *salivates* I remember first trying it when I lived and worked in Erie, PA. Bacon served when you order?! That's a win in my book. Pair that with a refreshing beer, a rack of fall off the bone ribs, sweet potato waffle fries, and jalapeño cornbread skillet. GAME OVER. THE MOST AMAZING BBQ EVER (and we lived in Raleigh and St Louis). Three B is a mixture of those two bbq favorites and a total winner. The owner JJ is a prince of a guy and makes the best potato skins and burnt ends. The Bloody Mary's are a sight to see - brown sugared bacon, pickled Brussel sprouts, smoked shrimp and spices that knock you socks off! Food was good but took forever and a day (over 45 mins) to come out. 35 minutes into the wait was told they were out of mac and cheese because the owner took all of it for his catering business. Not sure why that wasn't figured out sooner? Understaffed and the environment was super casual and not the cleanest. Don't see what the hype is. read more

I have no idea where you all have been eating, but I've never been this outraged in my life. This place is as classy as a strip club in rural Alabama at noon on Tuesday. The food has progressively gotten crappier over the last two years and every so often I put an order in hoping it will get better. This time we reached "I'll never spend another dime in that establishment again." I called in a to go order on a Friday night. The woman on the phone was rude, short and damn near hung up on me by the end of the order. She said "20 minutes." So 20 minutes later my boyfriend showed up only to find no to go orders. No one there remembered taking my order or anything. Well, sucks to suck, Libby, I remember exactly who took my order. Libby's impersonal response on the phone leads me to believe she has done this before and hopes that no one remembers her name. I'm not here to make her life hell I'm assuming working for that pompous meatball can make everyone hate their job. I'm assuming he pays the standard 2.82/ hr for his servers that bust their backs everyday and get nothing in return but crappy tips and creepy glances from all is greasy friends. Moving past assumptions, after my order was taken a second time and made on the fly, I can only imagine that whoever put the order in has never once read the menu. I ordered the bacon cheese fries. She ordered a side of fries, add bacon, add cheese. The food was cold, the fries were probably yesterday's and honest to goodness the dog refused to eat that meat they call brisket. I passed a homeless guy who said he wouldn't eat food from there because it gave him the "black runs" and he only had one roll of toilet paper. So, if you want to be ignored by wait staff who probably aren't getting paid enough by a guy who probably wears banana hammocks "because he likes how they feel," and you've decided that you want to pay way too much money for food that's mediocre on a good day, then this is your place. But if you work for your money and want food worth eating served by people that might treat you with respect, I'd steer clear. P.S. those "black runs" were real talk. read more

Hands down probably the WORST BBQ place I have ever been, food and service. I called ahead of time because we had a large party, she took my reservation for 16 and said a table would be ready; when we showed up, they said they do not take reservations. Talk about starting off on the wrong foot. For a place that is acclaimed for their brisket, it was completely shocking that they ran out of it on a regular night that was NOT busy, unacceptable. I ended up ordering the baby backs (which was supposed to be their #2). Fail. It was burned, dry, and tough. One hopes that the sauce would make up for the atrocity that was done to potentially fine mean. However, the sauce was lacking any flavor: it was watery and bland with no kick. The ribs came with a side of Texas bread, which was greasy and salty. I also had some Mac which was disappointingly not cheesy with a thin sauce. The veggies that came with were OK but they were out of portobellos. The waitress talked up the sweet potato waffle fries, but they came out stale, lukewarm and coated in sugar. Although our servers and waitresses were nice, they were all inattentive and relatively unhelpful. Without even 1 redeemable factor, you will probably not see me here again. read more

This place is great! Every beer you order comes with a strip of bacon. The bacon wasn't out-of-this-world but the beer selection was quite good (probably had about 10ish on tap?) and I haven't had any other place give me bacon with my beer. The restaurant is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood but parking is fine. The atmosphere is welcoming- casual, but not run-down. Service was slow, but not frustrating. As previously stated, the food is largely made to order- which is obvious when they ask if you want to add anything to a number of their side dishes- like the mac and cheese which is hot, delicious, and served in a cast iron skillet. Similarly, their cornbread was cooked to order (we got it with some jalapenos). We also got some bacon/broccoli coleslaw which featured dried ramen (it was tasty, just unexpected). We got ribs as the main entree- and it was served in paper instead of on a plate. It seems like that was pretty standard practice for most of their dishes. Unfortunately the ribs didn't live up to the other side dishes we had. They were almost caramelized, and a bit tough. In the end this place is a hidden gem! Next time I go I'll try the pulled pork, and will not hesitate to get more cornbread with mac and cheese. read more

First, I just want to echo the sentiments of most of the reviewers of this establishment. 1. BBQ Sauce is excellent 2. BBQ Brisket is awesome 3. Mac & Cheese is wonderful (add sausage, jalapenos and bacon to supercharge it) 4. Friendly atmosphere A few things that are kinda odd (these could be pluses or minuses). 1. They don't provide plates 2. Basically, everything is ala arte, yet they have an Platter menu and ala carte menu. 3. The menu is rather small. 4. Soda is served in cans. Other observations. 1. It does't appear to hold a lot of people. 2. It looks like it could get busy easy, which might cause delays because of the there appears to be only 1 bartender, 1 cook and 1 waitress. 3. Although the prices are reasonable, the price adds quickly when adding upgrades. 4. Wouldn't recommend taking children. 5. Could get noisy quickly. I would love to go to 3 B Saloon again. The BBQ style is different from Carolina or Texas BBQ. I think if I would classify it would be called "Southern BBQ." read more

Been travelling a lot in the military and somehow some of the best BBQ I've had is at 3Bs. The smoked potato boats and loaded Mac and cheese are a must try. They have a surprisingly great beer selection with often some rare legs on tap. Tucked away in a downtown Erie neighborhood. read more

Most restaurants bring bread to the table; well these guys bring bacon! Really really yummy bacon! They have a full bar and lots of craft beers on tap. The pulled pork potato skins were out of this world, the ribs are gigantic, and the brisket melts in your mouth! As a side we got bacon Mac and cheese which was amazing, and bacon corn bread fritters which were served with a sweet dipping sauce that was so savory and delicious! These guys really know what they're doing, and we will definitely be coming back!! Oh and in case you're wondering they do have parking in the back which is nice so you don't have to park on the street! read more

I'm in Erie on a mini vacation with m boyfriend, the man at the front desk recommended this place and THANK GOD he did. It was absolutely fantastic!!! We are from Boston so we had no idea what we were getting into going to Erie, PA. We wanted a trip that was relaxing, fun and slightly off the beaten path. We wanted to go to and eat at really local places and this place was perfect. If we were staying more than a few nights & didn't want to try other places, we would definitely go back. Their meats are from a prime butcher in town but they are smoked and cured right there. The brisket, we were told, was smoked for 16 hours to make it melt in your mouth awesome. The ribs were fall off the bone perfect too. Oh! And don't forget about the complimentary bacon that's served with your beer! Yum! I wish we didn't live so far because this would a place we would go to ALL the time! read more

Service is ABYSMAL. Get your own beer from the bar, expect a long wait for anything, and probably ask for the bacon you're supposed to receive with every beer! That said, the food is great, the beer selection is great, and the crowd is pretty nice, considering the location (lock your car!). We had them cater our wedding last month and we were extreamly disappointed. The food was good but was not at all what we had sat down and ordered and went over with them a year prior to the wedding. We also paid for 160 people and they didn't even bring enough food to serve the 130 People that came. We're very sad about this because it was one of our favorite places to take our family and eat and we won't be doing that anymore. They just seemed to be very disorganized about the whole thing and a wedding is not one of those things to just throw together last minute when the couple and their family are really counting on you and paying you a lot to cater their special Day. read more

Went here for my first time the other night. We were seated quickly and served was very knowledgeable on the menu and helping us decide. The owner seemed very customer oriented which we appreciated. The food was really good for restaurant quality BBQ- food came out hot and on point. The mac and cheese was unreal and so good. The only side dish we did not care for was the corn bread- too dense and dry in our opinion. Why the two stars you ask? When the server called the owner over, he got in her ear and started scolding her in such a disrespectful manner that it made all of us extremely uncomfortable. We were in fact so uncomfortable with the way the owner talked to his employee that we will not be back at all. Word to the wise- talk nicely to your employees and if you have to talk about something, do it in the back not right in front of customers who paid over $60 for two people on food and drinks. Yes, your food may be good but the poor way you treat your employees leaves a worse taste in our mouths. read more

The B stands for --Beer, Barbecue, and Bacon. What better combo can you ask for. The specialty is a pulled pork sandwich, and man is it on point. Comes out on a soft roll with homemade slaw, and not the saucy type either. It's sweet with tiny bits of broccoli and julienne carrots. The homemade BBQ sauce is sweet, yet just the right amount of spiciness and ohh so tasty. Today i had the Brisket sandwich that comes on Texas Toast and wasn't sliced like most Brisket. This Brisket came in chunks and was super moist with fall apart goodness. I would also recommend the Alabama Slammers on Friday's. One of the best things about the place, is that everyday when you order a beer you get a side of bacon (YUMM). The atmosphere is laid back and the food is awesome. Any time you order a draft beer you get a side of fresh seasoned bacon. There were three of us and since we couldn't decide on just one we ordered a spread: pulled pork, ribs, brisket, mac and cheese, corn bread, corn bread with jalapenos, three beans, sweet potato fries and texas toast which had a bit of cheese. Everything was just so good! The brisket was soft to the touch and the ribs were seasoned well. They weren't joking about the mac and cheese being a top favorite and the sweet potato fries had cinnamon on top - no ketchup necessary. What a gem of a place tucked in a neighborhood! I agree with a previous yelper, horrible service, phenomenal food. I'd give it a 3, but the food makes it hard to. First, I'll start with exactly why the service was horrible. We went to sit at a table for a little intimacy and to avoid talking to strangers about football, and a server asked us to move to the bar. We weren't the only people in there, plenty were at tables, the kitchen didn't close for two more hours, and there were only three seats open at the bar. Shortly after we sat on our bar stools an older, possibly wealthier looking couple was sat at table. We ordered our first drink and our food and all was seeming to be going a little better. We got our food and ordered a second drink. After we were finished eating and before we got a chance to order our final drink, we were brought our bill without any communication between us and the bartender. He didn't really talk to us the whole time, so I don't know why we expected him to ask us if we needed anything else. On to the food. We each were given one piece of bacon, it was spicy and crisp, just had wished there was more. But it was free and yummy, so who could complain? Next, we were brought a caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella. The salad was good, but standard. We were at a BBQ joint after all, not a gastro-pub or a 5 star restaurant. Then, the Mac and cheese comes out, in a skillet, swimming in cheese sauce and smothered in a thick layer of shredded cheese. Super cheesy, super delicious! Lastly, our meat selections, ribs and the pulled pork sandwich. The ribs had a crispy outside. They fell off the bone, and were juicy. You're given a bottle of BBQ to sauce your items to your liking. I ate half the ribs before I even noticed they weren't sauced. Then I tried the sauce, and wow! I had missed out with those first couple ribs. The pulled pork sandwich was our favorite, though. No weird chewy pieces in the pork, very succulent. Despite the well prepared meat, I thought the spicy slaw was the star of the sandwich. With four drinks, our salad, mac, ribs and a sandwich our bill came out to be about $50. Not a bad price for everything we got to try. Fortunately, they allow take out. So, on our next couple visits, and probably any future visits, we're able to avoid the crappy service and appreciate the amazing food. read more
