Has to be the worst experience I've ever had with a dealership or garage. They had my car for five weeks. There times I've been told that my car would be ready "that day." Meanwhile they ordered parts and did repairs I didn't approve and they didn't tell me about. Apparently they asked to work with me on the price. Two days ago I told them I would pick it up today. I'm currently there. It's not ready and when I asked why they said they didn't know. I'm now waiting for them to finish my paperwork and "make sense of it." Matt the service manager is terrible. Refused to fix a $30 part that was broken and on a new car that is still under warranty. To make it worse and insulting he blamed the defective part on me. It was somehow my fault. There are many forums full of owners saying this is a common defective part. It's the dust boot on the shifter. Took the car to Jack Daniels VW and they were happy to fix it. I wish I can give this place 0 stars. First of all, most of the cars they sell are garbage and are full of problems. I leased one from them for 48 months and they were acting like they did me a favor when I got it. It's been a year of nightmares with the car. I tried giving them a chance to get me out of it and was basically told since there was negativity equity, they can only put me in an Atlas for $950 a month. I talked to the manager Ernie about my situation and recommended that they eat some of the negative equity to make a customer happy and he said it's a business and we need to make money.. Secondly, there service department is horrible. I was running late to an oil change appointment and a wheel alignment, so I gave them a courtesy call. A lady by the name of Tony answered the phone and was extremely rude. She basically told me that I had to wait even longer now cause I was running late and that the tech cannot see me till after lunch. I have dealt with Tony numerous times and she has always rude. This dealer cares about profit and not customer satisfaction. Ernie talks down to people and no one wants to help you. VW acts like they are a great company which they are not. This review is strictly for their service department. I've never purchased a car from here and the parts department is just fine. I do NOT trust this dealer with any of my VWs. PERIOD. I came with my fathers Tiguan a year ago for his 20K service (free with VWs 3 year/30K maintenance) and they said it wasn't free because it was at 21k despite the maintenance light being on. I believed them and paid for an oil change and tire rotation. Came home, checked the oil and saw it was still dark and the filter looked like the original one. The oil and/or filter was not changed. I went back to the dealer and after much arguing with the service manager, they reluctantly changed it again. Figuring it was just a mistake made by the mechanic last time, I figured I'd give them another shot. Today I brought my sisters NEW 800 mile old Golf to get a tire replaced due to a pothole. I called ahead of time to see if the tire was in stock and was told yes and that it would take about 30 minutes. Awesome! That works perfectly. Shower up at 9:15AM and there was one other customer there. They do a full check on the car and find NO DAMAGES besides the spare and a small scratch on the front bumper. I leave the car with them and head to Dunkin donuts. I come back about 45 minutes later and wait in the waiting area. Fifteen minutes later, the service writer tells me that they don't have the tire and it needs to be ordered. What? I spoke to you this morning and you had it, which is why I came in. Ok whatever order it, I'm just upset I had to waste time coming in and waiting. I leave and I'm driving down the road and see a nice three in gouge in the left hand side of the windshield. This was NOT there when I gave them the car. I turn around and have the service writer show me the damage sheet that I signed when I came in. No damage listed on the windshield. The service manager and the writer then start telling me it's impossible for them to have damaged that since they didn't work in that area (did I mention that there are hand prints from someone leaning on there). Livid, I leave and cancel my tire order because I'm not giving those assholes a penny for anything ever again. Stay away from this shitty dealer. Take a drive up rt 3 to Gensinger VW or check out Linden VW and Jack Daniels. Never again! read more

What a total ripoff of a dealership. I can't overstate how unsatisfied I have been with 3 County time and time again. I did not have problems with the sales department. I actually had a fairly painless process in buying the car. The support after the fact has been nothing short of despicable. While under warranty for a fairly expensive car I was having a reoccurring issue with the car that was covered. I took the car in to be looked at. 3 County kept the car overnight, called me in the morning and said that they'd fixed it. Perfect, car goes in under warranty, it's in for a day, get it back, no problem. Only they hadn't fixed the problem at all, they just lied and said they did, this soon became a recurring trait. I then brought my car back stating that the car was not fixed as stated. I chalked it up to bad luck but now I am certain nothing was done in the first place. This time 3 county gave me a rental. They had my car for a week and then called me to tell me that A) the initial problem was fixed and that B) that I should think about getting roughly $2,500 dollars worth of repairs, one of the repairs being "very worn wiper blades" which I found interesting because I had just put new blades on the car two weeks prior. I declined to have the phantom issues serviced and picked up my car. Upon returning home I noticed that 3 County had returned my car to me with a cracked grill and a scuffed/ chipped front bumper. THEY CRASHED MY CAR AND RETURNED IT TO ME LIKE THAT. I understandably was furious. The next day I called to speak with the owner of the dealership, I demanded an explanation, I was offered the runaround, no explanation for why they would not fix something they did to the car before returning it to me, no explanation for what even happened for the damage to occur. Also, as a kicker, the reoccurring issue had still not been fixed! I brought the car back for the grill/bumper to be replaced. I was again granted a loaner, and did not hear from 3 County for a month. I was getting fed up with driving their crappy loaner so I called to ask for the mysterious status of the car. They told me it had been ready for 2 days and that someone should have contacted me by then. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL! After having my car for a month to repair a grill and bumper my initial concern with the car was never fixed. I will never buy from these people again. I cannot stress how seedy of a business is ran at 3 County, STAY. AWAY. read more

The review is strictly for the 'Service Department' only as I haven't brought any new car from this dealership. My wife had purchased 08 Beetle 54K miles two months ago; this is our fist VW car and first car for my wife. We decided to take it for a service when the mileage hit 60K but very recently the driver side headlight, taillight & backup light stopped working. So we lookup for the closest VW dealership from Jersey City and took the car to this dealership one weekend. We highlighted the problems with the lights and also requested 60K mile service on the car. The diagnostics result came up with having to change - 1) The headlight bulb 2) Replace the taillight assembly as the bulb had melted the tail light bulb holder 3) Replace backup light assembly 4) Few other changes - Strut mounts, Transmission harness, rear shock absorbed leak 5) Engine cover changes The total came to $4000 with 60k car service. My wife inquired about the lights since the headlight, taillight & reverse light stopped working together, she wanted to know if an electrical circuit on the car was to blame, the only answer we got was with respect to taillight and that the melt was due to the tail light being 'ON' for a long time (cant believe this logic a) the tail light will be ON if the car is driven after sunset b) each time you hit the brake. How am I suppose to not hit a brake or ensure the taillight is not 'ON' for long post sunset) & that this was a regular problem on the beetles.... Wow My wife & I decided we prioritize the changes to pick up the urgent ones only from the diagnostics result and also use our extended 3rd party warranty on the car. The service agent called up our insurance company and read through the changes needed to be performed on the car and found out that our insurance company would only cover Point # 4 (in the above list) and extended warranty would send their own inspector to the dealership to validate the issues reported. We agreed to get only the Headlight bulb replaced & change items listed in Point# 4 + oil change only which amounted to $1000 in total. I decided to research through my extended warranty guys to explore the coverage on the bulbs assemblies, the outcome was that extended warranty was covering the assemblies provided 'the cause of failure' is due to any circuit breakout or any electrical wiring issue. Since the car was in the shed, I called my service agent at the dealership & asked him again about the correlation and requested if he can dig out the cause of the failures with driver side lights but the response I got was 'Its a routine problem with the car '. I gave up on the service agent & after we brought the beetle back home I opened up the tail light and found the bulb was still in there working but since it melted the bulb holder it had fallen off the tail light and hanging with the electrical wire. On the Reverse light I found the bulb had exploded so I changed it with a new bulb but it still wouldn't work which was due to no electricity flowing to power up this bulb...A clear issue with internal circuit or wiring something my extended warranty will cover. My experience with the service at this dealership has been that there is no 'Detailed Diagnostics' performed to answer 'Why' rather the outcome of diagnosis was only correlated to 'Routine Issues'. Only if my car was diagnosed to find the root cause of the 'routine problem' I could have got this covered by the extended warranty with a single time decidable but now I will have to pay the deductible again and go through the pain to find a nice beetle mechanic. Usually, one goes to a dealership because they know their car's mechanics inside out and though the service is charged at a premium you agree to pay more because you trust their judgment and can be at peace... read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I was there recently for a 60,000 mile service, even though my 2005 VW Golf only has 31,000 miles on it and I find that I was billed and advised very unfairly. My key remote worked perfectly FINE when we arrived, I locked my car with the remote in fact. But when it was given back to me, suddenly, it did not work. We tried a new battery and that did not help, then I was told I could pay $140 to have a new remote for it. Strange isn't it? I really feel I was scammed, to the highest possible extent. Then the under engine cover was missing. Strange because it was there when we pulled in. They tried to tell me perhaps the last people who changed my oil lost it. Not true. I went to the Lube Flash location and they showed me their video footage and I saw that they did in fact put it back on. Another ploy of yours to get more money from your trusting clients? (break their key, remove parts and then tell them they need these same parts) I could on on and on about the scamming that goes on at this location but I am sure those who have been there already know (see the other reviews) I will be telling the BBB about it and of course, everyone I know in NJ and NYC NOT to go to this location. read more

These are the only VW guys in my area, so I bring my 2002 Beetle to them when I want the TRUTH. The local mech who works on VWs wants to make money off me in ordering parts. The Pep Boys don't really care enough, and tend to guess at things. I rely on 3CVW when I need to know what's up with my car FOR REAL. Love that they do the thorough checks, tell you the facts, (even when it's more than u wanna know) answer any and all questions no matter how stoopid. Will drop you off or pick you up with no 'tude and are prompt about it. They will charge you what you expect to pay from a dealer, more than you wanna; but they know your car like they know their mama, so they fix it right the first time, and you get it back when they say you will, so sit down, drink some coffee, and watch the tv or use the free wifi til they drive ya car to the front. Only when you sit in your car do you realize they've cleaned it up inside and out, plumped up the pillow in the backseat, and repositioned your stuffed animal for the optimal driving experiences to come. Let me start off by if you need to get a quote on fixing your car ask for MATT NOT GREG!!!! I came here last week Saturday with problems with my car. They didn't have the parts and Greg quoted me a price. He told me if I fix both my rear main seal and my transmission clutch he would be able to do it at a discount since the transmission has to be removed regardless. Which he told me was $2,900. Of course that's far to expensive so I took my car to another place to get the rear main seal fixed. By Tuesday evening I was right back at volkswagen because the transmission clutch still needed to be fixed. When Greg was out for some time Matt told me they could fix my car for $1,900!!!!!! $1,000 less. Like wtf! So I complained to Matt telling him if I was quoted right the first time I would have just had them fix my car and I wouldn't have missed grad school classes and work for so many days. Regardless of the fact Matt told me there was nothing they could do and could only offer me the 20% off my repair. Cassandra told me I could only get 10% off of lights. Then I called the location I had spoken to Greg (who had returned) and I told him about the quote he gave me. Then he starts saying "I'm not going to argue with you I'm a trustful person". Which was weird because he too said I quoted you $2,900. In no way was I arguing with him just voicing my concern to see if I'd receive some sort of adjustment being because of me being misquoted. But of course I was disregarded and told I was mixing up Greg and Matt. I'm highly intelligent and remember everything. I should mention they fixed my transmission clutch which worked fine now but I hate this place. I hate being disregarded and made to feel like i am trying to start an argument when in deed I wasn't. These are the most dishonest people in the VW world i ever came across. My wife brought in 2010 VW for diagnostics of the Engine light on. Got quoted most unreasonable price to replace a glow plug and bunch of other unnecessary services including the wiper blades that i replaced 2-3 month ago. I refused the service at this prices and they charged us almost $200 for diagnostics that should have taken 5 minutes or how ever long it takes to read the error code. I will demand my money back from them and will write to VW corporate about the unethical practices but for everybody out there: AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!!! read more

Went to Three County to get another key for my used car, as it only came with one original key. Went behind the sales department to the service counter and stood there for about 20 minutes while employees were just walking around behind the service counter. Wasn't acknowledged at all and for a place that's known to take your money, you would think they would at least see what you're looking for. I went back to sales to confirm I was in the right part of the facility to get the key done and asked any of the sales reps for help. They said it's not their department and I didn't feel like standing there getting ignored so I left. It's a shame because I live nearly across the street and I would take my car to get serviced there but the lack of attention to customers gets to me. read more

Had my car towed to Three County overnight due to loss of power while driving the prior night. I filled out the overnight slip and put in mailbox. At 630am this morning Greg called and apologized for waking me but wanted to get my car checked in before the Saturday rush. After checking my car Greg called and told me my throttle body needs to be replaced and that would cost $1000. I asked if this was covered under warrany he checked with manager and advised it was not covered by powertrain warranty. I gave permission to proceed with repair. Two minutes later Greg calls me back and advised after further research the repair is covered under the PZEV warranty thus no charge. I really appreicate the additional effort to check for warranty coverage. This is why I only bring my car here for service. read more

Scheduled oil and filter change on-line for my mom. Specifically scheduled just the oil and filter change. She gets there and they take advantage of an elderly women and charger almost $700 for some check service that was not scheduled. I am totally disgusted And disappointed that someone would do this to an elderly woman let alone my mother! How is this a good business? How do you just change what is scheduled. There was nothing nothing wrong with the car. There was no need for this. You service people just take advantage of the elderly! How dare you! I will do everything i can to blast this news out there. Matt and Greg excel as Service Managers and there are no finer office personnel than Cassandra and Toni. My Passat is 13 years old and running well. Much of the credit goes to their fine team of mechanics. When I am ready to purchase a new car I will be very reluctant to purchase anywhere else but Three County because of the people who work in this dealership. read more

Note: this review follows an attempt to purchase a vehicle from Three County. I have never used the service or parts dept so I can't comment. This place should be reported to the Better Business Bureau. In fact, I might just do that. After spending two hours discussing how much money we would put down for a new car and asking countless times for them to run our credit so that we could figure out what the actual monthly payment would be, they finally tell us that their credit guy is not in that day. then they tell us that they can't run our credit until we fill out and sign a buyer's order. (this form basically obligates you to buy the car.) it was a complete and total lie. i can't even understand why they would push someone into signing this without providing us with the critical information of what the monthly payment would be. Long story short - they wouldn't actually run the credit without the buyer's order signed. We left, deal was dead. We went to the Volkswagen in Union, NJ. It's brand new, the people are so polite. Within 3 hours, we had the deal done. And by the way, when I actually signed the buyer's order this time - I explained what Three County tried to do - and they said that that was absolutely wrong. In fact, Union ran our credit without any issues - and we signed the buyer's order once we had all the information. I would NEVER go back to Three County for anything. Service Department Review Only: After running Torque on my phone and determining my 2009 Rabbit 2.5L needed a new crankshaft/engine speed sensor (OEM - $56 on Amazon), I called for a quote to have it installed. They said two hours of labor -- $240. In less than two hours I went to Lowes, picked up a jack pump and two stands and a socket wrench set which totaled $99 and had the part installed in less than twenty minutes! And I'm not even a grease monkey, just a good Googler and YouTube video finder! Don't believe me? AVOID THIS MECHANIC UNLESS YOU ARE RICH AND DON'T CARE ABOUT MONEY!!!!! I have been waiting to write this review since my horrible experience. PLEASE READ THIS to avoid getting scammed. I noticed my car had been showing a high reading in the temperature gauge aka overheating so I brought it in the next day to get it checked out. I figured it would be something simple. 2 hours later after I got it back they told me the cost would be $2,200 to fix it. they gave me a print out of everything I "needed" and as I started to have a melt down about what I was going to do I said to myself, I need a second opinion. The guy at the desk strongly advised me not to drive my car as I was putting myself and others on the road at great risk. seeing as I only live 15 minutes away and I had absolutely no way to pay for it I said "I'll take my chances" and left. I ended up calling a friend before I left and she told me to take it to a Sunoco. I said to myself, no way I'm not trying to get some jinky half a$$ job, but I ended up going there because the cost was too high at VW and I figured I'll at least let someone else look at the car and tell me the same news. I dropped off my car at Sunoco and long story short the same cost of the repairs turned out to be.... $760!!!!!!!! WHAT A DIFFERENCE. The guy there gave me a break down of the costs and I explained how relieved I was to NOT be getting ripped off. I eventually compared prices to what this $HITTY three county place and let me just give you a small comparison of the absolute ridiculousness of this establishment: Sunoco Temperature Sensor - $35.95 3 County Temperature Sensor - $375.00 Sunoco Fan Motors - $250.95 (both were needed) Three County Hell - $925.00 Sunoco Fuel Injection Service- $22.95 Three County BULL$HIT! - $155.00 Moral of the story here folks, if you want a rip off and your rich come on down to three county Volkswagen. This is like buying a bottle at a club, the mark up for parts is 500%. But if you want a great deal go to a local guy who won't rip you off. The service was excellent, it took half the time it would have taken had I gone to this sheisty operation, and my car has been running fantastic ever since! I'm not parting with my hard-earned pennies unless I know I'm getting a good deal, so when I was in the market for a car I decided to shop around ruthlessly. Three County Volkswagen made a great first impression. Our salesperson, Stan, was personable, responsive, and helpful. He spent plenty of time with us and answered all our questions, both in person or over the phone. We were ready to get serious and everything was looking good... until we sat down with Three County's finance guy. Right off the bat he started barraging us about buying tire protection and extended warranties. When we were finally able to steer him away from these extras, he quoted us an insanely high interest rate/monthly payment and was not willing to negotiate at all. We walked out and the deal was dead. Based on working with Stan alone, I would give Three County 5 stars. But our experience with the finance person earns them 1 sad 1 star. We ended up purchasing elsewhere and are very happy! read more

AVOID TAKING YOUR CAR TO THESE THIEVES. I took my GTI to replace the wheel lock cylinder. It took them THREE weeks to fix the issue. A couple weeks after having the car again, I come to find out that they didn't fix anything! My key was again stuck in the ignition even after the "brand new" wheel lock cylinder that apparently took THREE WEEKS to be shipped to their shop. Matt had the nerve to tell me that he couldn't guarantee that the second repair be free of charge because it could be due to something else that's wrong with the car (it just so happens that they try to screw you over with other "needed" repairs). Ridiculous. They lost a potential customer forever. I actually planned on purchasing a new Volkswagen from Three County. Nope, I'll just go to the one on 22. Good job service department! STAY AWAY! What a great experience for a car dealership! I only write when I have bad experiences, but felt compelled to write this, having bought many cars from many dealerships. The owner Scott was the best, as was the rest of his sales and finance team when I decided to buy my VW Beetle through them. They did not hard pressure me on anything, were incredibly open to spending so much time with me, thoroughly explained everything and were absurdly fair with the pricing. Overall, I had a really great experience and even though I have closer VW dealerships near my house I will bring my car to them to service due to the TLC. read more

This summer I had the worst service experience I have ever had. Being from out of town I got a "check engine" light and had the Beetle towed to Three County. Needing the unexpected service it was a good time to get the AC fixed. That was done, and they also recommended the tires be replaced. About two weeks later they called that the car was ready. I arranged for transportation for the three hour trip. This time the "check battery" light was on, so after a few miles the car died and I had to be towed back. It took another month to get transportation back to Lyndhurst. When I arrived I was suprised how long it took to get the car to me. The tech said he had to add some air. Now I believe the tires were flat, not just low on air. I test drove the car and gassed up. The car wouldn't crank, so the tech came over to the gas station fast and jump started it. He told me to not turn it off, so I didn't...good news...it started after driving for two hours. I made it to my destination, drove it a few miles, and then noticed a few days later that two tires were flat. After pumping them up we had to leave for two weeks and returned to find the tires were flat again while sitting in the driveway. After being told that the warranty does not cover labor to find the tire problem, I took the Beetle to a local VW dealership and they found that the two valves were faulty and charged me $26. This local dealership said they replace valves whenever they replace tires, but apparently Three County did not. Someone at Three County should have reported the tires were going flat in a matter of weeks, and should have also reported the "check battery" light. Instead, I ended up making two trips to pick up the Beetle and a third trip to the local VW dealer. Extremely disappointing. read more
