The worst car rental experience of my life. I, and about 100 others, waited in line for FOUR hours to get our cars. We all had reservations but Thrifty was not staffed enough to accommodate. Plus since they are owned by the same company, Dollar reservations were working through the same line. They did not even bother to open the Dollar desk. When I finally got to the desk they had the nerve to try and upsell me. They should've been handing out discounts. It's an embarrassment for them. Thrifty is a great place to rent a car if you a: are the only driver b: have a fixed rental time and do not plan on extending it. After our truck was rear-ended we had to have a rental car for a few weeks. Settled on a Ford Taurus which was in great condition, clean and performed flawlessly for three weeks. Sadly as the auto repair place kept adding time to our car being ready we had to physically go in to Thrifty every-time to re-up the rental. This is not a policy of all their stores but it is for this one and it's a pain in the ass when you don't have a fixed period. Rented another car when the truck fell over again :) ( I really must write a review for those idiots) which was as new, clean and working as the last. Staff are pleasant too. I can only give it a 3 re the inflexibility of options and the additional driver charge which nearly every other company covers you on PLUS you get charged more per day for extending it. Even though you can go into shop, cancel contract and re rent the same vehicle for cheaper.. All in all great value for the single driver / fixed term. read more

Someone else commented on the hassle related to extending reservations. I wanted to extend for 2 days. They insisted on charging $26 fee for changing the return date ($12.99/day). It was cheaper to simply book a separate 2 days online. I told them as much. Completely nonsensical. I've rented from other agencies and extended without incident. The vehicle they provided smelled horrendous, like someone left the most pungent of Indian curry takeout & hot garbage inside the car in 100+ degree weather. I was searching under the seats for whatever was left to die there. Found nothing. I purchased Febreze, sprayed it allllll over the seats, floor mats etc and let it sit/soak for a day. IT STILL SMELLED THE NEXT MORNING. That's how embedded this odor was. I didn't want it to seep into my clothes. Plus it was making me nauseous. I sprayed again the next day and the smell was nearly eliminated.... or masked to tolerable. Two stars because the car functioned reliably. read more

The man that helped us this morning seemed somewhat bothered with us. First he had a the closed sign showing and when my husband looked in he was eating. My husband knocked, proceeded to open the door. My husband told him his closed sign was up the man said "most people cant read and come in"The vehicle that we rented was dirty. I took pictures of it. Absolute fraud. Added charges I didn't want, was told to call to have them removed. After calling 4 times, waiting on hold for sometimes an hour each time was told I needed to have it removed at the time of rental. This is in addition to waiting an hour to get the car, then receiving a car without a headrest in the back so I had to again return to the garage, then received a car that was not clean and the back bumper was badly damaged. I rented a car in Louisville Kentucky for 10 days. Car was fine. When I rented it the woman told me to keep my gas receipt. I checked in with a full tank and offered to show the man my receipt. He said no. He proceeded to charge me 9.99 a gallon for gas coming to 132$. The tank was more than full. So when I noticed it I called and was told to email receipts to Hertz.' If you use a debit card for your payment they run a hard credit check. That includes points on your credit report as an inquiry. Bring a credit card and you won't have this problem. There is no possible way I can recommend this place. They are really terrible. read more

I reserved a vehicle due to mine being in the shop. I reserved it through hotwire. I went to this place and nobody was inside, "Isabella" was outside cleaning a car. Not once did she make contact with me to advise me she'll be with me. Once she did she became snooty because I handed her my debit card. She said she doesn't accept debit cards. Their policy is credit cards. I showed her my itinerary and she said, "I don't care, we don't honor debit cards." Needless to say, I will never use Thrifty or tell anyone to come here!! This review is based on my experience thus far dealing with Thrifty rental car in Glendale, AZ at 51st and Cactus Roads. Rented a car via Priceline... Got a killer rate on a "Charger or similar"... Called national to find out what 'similar' actually translates to... In this case a Ford Taurus. Either vehicle would be acceptable as I am 6'4" and am jammed in anything smaller. I call the local store... "Oh, We NEVER get Chargers or Taurus in this store..." O.K. so what do YOU send out as a 'full sized' rental car. "Oh, That would be an Altima, a Malibu or a Fusion..." All of which are consistently listed in the rent-a-car market as "standard" size. The local employees have been curt, surly, condescending and dismissive... I am looking forward to meeting them in person. Apparently, bait & switch is standard practice in the car rental game and there's not much chance that there are any agencies out there who will not happily try to cheat you out of every cent they can. I guess this is more of a "Caveat Emptor" kind of review on my part. Priceline offers "Name your own price" option... Now THAT'S more of a joke that Captain Kirk running out to sea with a surfboard under his arm. Just for fun I offered $25/day for a Mustang convertible... (the best rate I had seen for my 12 day rental was $540ish) Priceline AGREED to $25/day for a total of $300/week, (and then added $237 in charges and fees). Only thing I know is ( I think)... rent as far out as you feel safe your plans won't change and research the vehicle (plus or minus) that meets your needs and confirm that your insurance carrier DOES in fact cover you in this car (which all but the most bare bones/liability type insurance carriers do). Finally, ignore any of the human's you may come in contact with during your transaction factoring in they apparently have no marketable skills. Oh well... Ultimately when I went to pick up the car it was in fact a Ford Taurus which has become a substantially nicer vehicle than I recall from it's early days... On the positive side, we had no problems with our actual automobile from them. It ran well and had no problems. On the other side, we changed our pickup time from 9AM to 11AM via phonecall, arrived at 10:40AM and the employee stated that we were late, he gave away our car, and that we can only pay $20/day extra to upgrade to a ford he had. After I informed him that contractually he should have reserved our car for 2hrs after our reservation and that we were actually before 11AM, magically, our car became available again. I rented a Passat wagon from Thrifty Car Rental for use during a medical conference. On my way to the Phoenix Mayo conference, the temperature outdoors was 88 degrees, but the fan on the car would not work to blow outside air or AC. My wife offered to drive the car back to the rental site, but Thrifty refused to allow this because I had rented it; in fact, in the beginning, they even wouldn't discuss the car with her, saying I had to leave my conference to talk to them. The site was one hour from the medical conference, and they were not open outside of the hours of the conference. Thrifty said the car was usable, so they were unable to be of any assistance. Thrifty's rates might be a little less sometimes, but the inconvenience and lack of customer service makes their rates costly. We rent cars frequently. So I reserved a full size car and went to pick it up. We only have compact cars. Basically ... too bad, take it or leave it. I rented a full size so we would be comfortable on a 5 hour drive. And because I had NO OTHER OPTIONS, I had to take a little POS car. Then I practically had to threaten this guy, to give me the "compact car" pricing. RIDICULOUS! Wow wish I had read the yelp before reserving a car 6 weeks out. called to say I would be picking up my car and got there and was told no cars available. Employee said she could do nothing I asked her to call a supervisor she said she did but when I went to the location she was supposed to the said they had not received a call I pestered them saying I had to have a car so finally I got a minivan. on the walk around the fender was falling off. Service was quick and the rates were good. I got my rental for 7.99/day! The downside is that there aren't many car options, and since all cars went at 7.99/day the bigger cars were bound to go faster. Online I selected a full size, but at this location only had an economy Ford focus left. Thrifty's cleaning process also isn't the best as there were still watermarks in the cup holders and on the dash. I wouldn't say my car was clean, but it wasn't not dirty either. Overall, they have good rates and decent, reliable cars to get you from point A to B. read more

I had a reservation and showed up on time 7.30am to be told they don't have cars. The employee did not show any remorse. She said it was not her fault. She suggested we check by noon "maybe" there will any cars available. I told her I must be somewhere in the next 4 hours. She gave me contact another location on Bell Rd. I called Bell Rd and explained the situation. They kept me on hold then hang up. I called the main office, they asked me to go to Sky Harbor airport to get a car there. I am in Peoria and supposed to drive to the airport!!!! after waiting on hold for more than 30 mins, I was told there might be a car just dropped off but it's not clean. I asked them how I could ride in a car not clean and not inspected!! Do they put their customer safety at risk??!! I asked them if I can get a car from another company, will they pay the difference, they said NO. I asked them then to find me a car nearby, and they insisted it will be only at the airport. I asked if someone could bring the car to Glendale branch, they refused. What a terrible customer service. First they don't honor the reservation and are unwilling to help. Pricing a vacation rental, I couldn't walk away from a rate that was the equivalent of two dinners out for both of us while on said vacation cheaper than anyone else. I had the absolute worst experience at this location. Please save your self time and pain and just don't go here. The lady at the front desk didn't speak a lick of English she had a very heavy Foreign accent which wasn't the best to walk into especially because it was very hard to distinguish what on earth she was saying. Not to mention I thoroughly ran through the "fine print" of the reservation it clearly stated a debit OR a credit card is to be present with another form of ID which I had, I was also prepared to take an up to 200 dollar authorization hold which was clearly stated in the print but was not mentioned whatsoever. I heard nothing but you're 23 and you don't have a credit card I can't rent to you. Seeing as I rented just fine from Hertz last year I can't see why this would be a problem. as well when I left i was disgruntled, as any customer would be in this situation. I took my cards swung the door open above average speed and the lady started yelling and shouting at me to" not do that" ? Shortly after this ugly white haired dude ran out side to mean mug me and say nothing to me, hands down one of the worst businesses I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. I had a reservation and I confirmed it that morning with CarRentals.com I went in on Wednesday 14 Oct and met an Allen Schwartz at the counter. This man told me that same confirmation number was "not coming up" on his computer. He however did tell me I cancelled a confirmation and redid one with the confirmation number I told him (this is true) and because of that, i lost my pricing. That is a lie. My confirmation number had the exact price as the first one. Either way, how was it "not coming up" if he knew about any of this. He quoted me over $600.00 vice $189.00 I had quoted. I had to call carentals.com and asked them to look up that same confirmation number I told Allen Schwartz. The man on the phone at carentals.com said the total for two days would be $189.00 like I said. For some reason , this man at this counter refused to acknowledge my confirmation number with the price I was quoted. Horrible person on the counter and it took way longer than it should have to get started with this process. Great car, great return but the initial encounter was terrible. Allen Schwartz was very rude and it makes no sense for a man with his disposition to be in a job where he deals with people face to face. I wont go there again and I feel bad because I told my neighbor to go there for his rental before I knew about this guy. I hope he doesn't have to deal with him. read more

RUN!!! This place was not a good experience. We rented a car from the PHX airport and went to this location to trade it in since the original car was shaking at high speed on the highway. The Ford Escape they offered us a the location is an embarrassment to the the whole company....it was filthy dirty, smelled like smoke and vomit and was an older model with high mileage....
