We waited about 45 minutes in line to get our car since there were only 4 desks staffed of the 9 or so that were available. Staff was fine and provided information and options as expected. Once we were done at the counter we went downstairs to get our vehicle and waited another 15 minutes there. I would recommend that you plan about 2 hours after flight landing time to be driving out of this airport. I am sure other rental companies might be faster but for me the value was worth the additional waiting time. Just plan accordingly and you won't have any problems. You GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! this saying is so true. I got such a great deal saving up so much on a rental car and expected to deal with disaster unwelcome inefficiency staff. Even that I still feel their system is so organize and unprofessional. The check in for Thrifty is on the second floor, the staff at the check-in is good even long line and waiting time. When I go down to pick up the car is the real disaster. Staff down there is so inefficiency and don't care anything. They told me it can be half hour or hours waiting because my car is not ready yet even, I booked everything in an advance. After waited about 45 minutes, I got a dirty car with some damage and different model I picked. I took all pictures in case if any tricky charge after I drop off to prove that the car was already damage. Service when I drop off is also terrible. Robo service none helping or try to communicate only thing the guy does is walking away and I have to run to him to ask the question. Overall - I'm ok. like I mentioned from the beginning. Super long line to get my car (this is with a reservation) I waited over 90 minutes. They are actually Dollar AND Thrifty and they only have 1 person at the booth for both "companies". One other employee dilly dallying on a golf cart and one person at the gate checking your rental papers to make sure you got the correct vehicle. Customer service was amazing. I was nervous because the reviews were sketch, but we landed around 0930 on a Friday. My husband rode the shuttle and picked up the car effortlessly. It had a few cosmetic things and nuances typical in tropical weather on pick up that we took pics of before heading out but the Durango rode well no mechanical issues. We also returned it seamlessly and got the rental receipt without added charges. It was a regular 7 passenger rental with no long wait times and the car was ready as promised and we were charged as agreed when we returned it :) My husband forgot his AirPods at drop off and went back and the employees had looked and found it and returned it. You're able to take a free shuttle to the area, and if you check in online, you can go straight to the parking lot and grab your car and go One thing to note is that if you get the mystery car option, you'll likely end up with a very large truck, as I did. I was super nervous about renting from this location after reading the mixed reviews. Was very pleased about my rental experience from start to finish. Flew in from outer island on a Friday and was only renting a car for the day to work. Arrived at the rental car facility around 7:30am with no line. I already pre-paid for my rental through a 3rd party vendor and the hold deposit was around $200. The desk agent that assisted me was friendly, fast and efficient. When I got down to the garage, I walked right over to the car that was assigned to me. The condition of the car was okay. Normally we don't check in our luggage and go straight to the rental car pickup and pick our car up quickly. I suggest you or someone else picks up the car and the other one waits for the luggage. I think there were 4 agents working. We were there for over an hour. This was by far the worst car rental experience I've ever had. I booked my rental through Expedia with my flight, expecting a seamless process, but it turned into a nightmare. First, the app wouldn't let me check in to go straight to my car as promised, so I ended up waiting in line for an hour while already jet-lagged. When I finally got to the counter, I was told I'd have to pay an additional $700 because I'm under 25. This extra fee was never disclosed in full anywhere during booking--it only vaguely mentioned that there might be a fee. Springing $700 as a "surprise" at the counter feels like a huge rip-off, especially after I'd already paid for the rental. Without any other choice, I had to pay the fee on the spot. Then came another hour and a half wait in the garage, surrounded by frustrated customers also waiting for their cars. When I eventually got mine, it was in poor condition--banged up, missing siding, and with only half a tank of gas, despite them charging customers for not returning it full. The staff were rude and dismissive, clearly underpaid and overwhelmed by the chaotic situation. Leaving this review as both a heads-up for others and a reminder for myself! Just like the photos suggest, the line was brutal. But honestly, is that really Thrifty's fault? A hundred of us found the same great deal online, and we all showed up at once. We were probably on the same plane together! Sure, some of the rental companies next door had shorter lines--but I didn't book with them, and that's on me (and the rest of the crowd). We ended up leaving the airport because we were starving--took an Uber to grab food and spent two hours at a restaurant, hoping the line would shrink when we got back. Spoiler: it didn't. Once I finally got to the counter, the experience turned around. The staff member who helped me was friendly, the process took maybe five minutes, and I was downstairs and in my car within ten. Midway through the trip, we no longer needed a full-size SUV, so we visited another Thrifty location (not at the airport), and they swapped us into a smaller car without any hassle. We later returned that car to the airport location without issue. There was one minor hiccup: a few days after returning the car, I noticed a charge for gas, even though we did fill the tank. I contacted Thrifty, and while it took a couple of days to hear back, they reviewed the case and reversed the charge. Bottom line--for my future self and anyone reading this: the initial line was awful, but once I got through it, everything else went smoothly. SO MUCH BETTER than hertz. Just came back from our trip to Oahu and we rented from Thrifty. We were able to choose our car while waiting to get to our gate. After we got to the rental car area we were able to just get right into our car, nice and easy, located on Lv 1. Whereas hertz took at least 1hr on our last trip. We had a problem with our rear passenger window and they were able to provide us with a new rental, only problem was getting back to the airport to pick up the new one. We did have to wait some time over the phone to explain the car's problem but that was more on the corporate side than the standalone location at the airport. Beware, they will take advantage of you and their parent company Hertz will try to shake you down! I rented a car here at the Thrifty at the airport through my credit card travel portal because they had a great rate. Went to pick up the car, there was damage to the trunk (several small dents). I took several pictures of the dents and of the car while it was parked in the stall. The pictures clearly show the damage and the pictures clearly show the car in the numbered stall in the Thrifty rental car pick-up area in the garage (I made sure to capture the sign & stall number in the picture as well). I took several pictures from multiple angles. I reported it at that time and was told the damage was already noted. I returned the car a few days later. When I returned it, there was nobody in the return area (at least when I arrived). waited like 10 minutes, still nobody. I received the rental return receipt shortly after with no charges (as I would expect since I filled up the fuel before returning). About 3 weeks later I receive an email from Hertz (parent to Thrifty) that the vehicle had been involved in an incident and I owed over $800 in damages. I received a letter in the mail shortly after. I called the 800 number on the letter and in the email, once I gave them my info, they immediately they also said I owed over $800 and wanted my credit card number to pay. I told them it was existing damage and thats when the fun began. I was given a different number to call. I called the claim numbet and spoke to the assigned Central Recovery Unit Specialist; I explained the situation and I was told that when I reported the damage, I should have been given a form to fill out, I told the person that I wasn't given a form and I was told the damage was already noted (when I've rented from Budget and Enterprise and reported damage that was already reported, they did the same, told me it was already reported and no further action was needed and I never had an issue, and I rent cars for work travel several times a year). She told me that wasn't their policy and I should have filled out a form, how am I supposed to know their internal policy? Why did their staff tell me I didn't need to do anything? I tell them about the picsband she asks me to send, which I do. A few weeks later, not days later, weeks, I get an email asking if I have any that are date/time stamped because without a date/time stamp they can't do anything. I replied telling her that a) the pictures clearly show the vehicle in question still in the pick-up area of the rental lot and clearly shows the damage, sign and stall number assigned to the car that I was told to go to (their computer records should have a history of the stall & day/time) (like, somehow I was able to go back to Honolulu and find the exact car i rented and find it in the pick-up area to stage photos almost 2 months after my vacation) and b) i told her the metadata on the pictures shows the date and time the pictures were taken... They want actual date/time stamps on the pictures... Who actually turns tgat on so it shows the date/time on picture, especially since there is metadata embedded in the picture and anyone could photoshop a date/time onto the picture... I was tempted to just do that, photoshop the date/time, but that is a) dishonest, b) if I dud tgat and they could tell its photoshoped, then it gives them excuses to accuse me of violating some term or something and c) I shouldn't have to because of the metadata!!! On top of all of this, the whole time I'm going back and forth in emails, I've been receiving multiple letters trying to get me to pay, I just received another this week telling me its their final attempt to get ahold of me to resolve this matter; yet I've been in contact this whole time, what do they mean final attempt, I've been in communication for a few weeks and its not like the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing, the letters are signed from the same person I've been emailing and sending the photos to... They keep telling me to just have the credit card pay the damage, and yes, the card I used covers rental car damages, but they're not responsible either, yes thats the easy thing, but who knows how many customers Hertz has told they are responsible for this damage to this car? Especially if we all just have the credit card pay... This is on Thrifty and Hertz, the damage is documented and I've provided proof, but they keep going. I already contacted the credit card company and explained the situation to them; they said I've definitely done my due diligence and have provided ample proof as far as they're concerned and if Thrifty or Hertz charge the card for the damage without my permission, to file a dispute and with what I've already provided to the credit card company they will deny the charge and reverse the charge. read more

I had a stroller full of car seats, three kids under 6yo, two large suitcases, and someone at the airport instructed me to go to the first floor for Thrifty - unfortunately, that was the wrong instructions because you have to go to the third floor first to "check in" to Thrifty. There was a silver lining though - that silver lining was Marvin!!!! Instead of making me go to the third floor, he shared with me to check in at the third floor in the future and that he'd check me in here at the first floor along with an upgrade. He observed that the struggle was real with these kids and all the luggage, and he became a hero to us (the people in line shared with me that the line to check in on the third floor was "insane" and out the door!). Very torn and mixed review. The old saying "You get what you pay for" comes to mind. I had a reservation and was like great I can just go pick up the vehicle no issues. Thirty shares a location with Dollar. Out of the 11 desks 4 were open when I arrived and it was packed. They of course saw this and closed one down so only three were open for twenty minutes before opening another so we are back up to 4. This is all before I even got to the desk. Off to a great start. Once called I was done within maybe five minutes and off to go get my car. When I got downstairs an employee quickly told me she could help and she looked at my paper and told me where my vehicle was parked. I walked over, got in, and drove to gate, gave the employee paperwork and they scanned my door and off I went on my way. When I drove up to dropoff my vehicle it was ok you are good to go we will email you your receipt. So they definitely rebounded and earned themselves a 4 star review. read more

We rented a car from them through our capital one travel app and pre-paid before getting there. We decided to do a last minute upgrade and added a booster seat (which costs us 97$ for a week) w should've just bought a new one at target which would be a lot cheaper. The lady at the desk told my husband the total amount minus the 162$ we paid for before and highlighted the charge we would've expected to see after returning the car. Luckily, I kept both receipts with me and still see the highlight amount of 315$ but 2 weeks later we were charged the original amount of 429.88$!!!! I called customer service who wasn't very sympathetic and just told me sorry for the misinformation but you need to pay the higher amount and she just made you believe it was that amount. We felt scammed at this point! They should've told us upfront what it would really be and not tell us we will be credited for. We were up charged 430$ to upgrade for an original booking supposedly for only 263$ Very disappointed and the customer service rep was really not helpful at all. Ridiculously poor service. The lobby has 2 person working while the line extends out side the entrance. The service guy, Donn, tries everything to upsell insurance. Still asking what I'm supposed to do to protect the car even after I turned down the car coverage twice. After a WHOLE HOUR in the line and getting assigned a car and contract and get to the garage, I was told I need to wait another 30 minutes for a car to come. The older guy in the booth keeps getting kickbacks and sent cars to people came after me. And the 30minutes turned into ANOTHER WHOLE HOUR. In the end it took 2 hours to get a car. I COULD HAVE WALKED TO WAIKIKI IN LESS THAN 2 HOUR! What kind of service will let people wait this much while the only way to get faster is bribery?
