As others have suggested, this company may have the best propane prices, but they have the worst customer service. If you can place and order, expect 2 weeks before it is delivered. If you order 350 gallons of propane, expect to only receive 100 -150 at delivery. I have over 1200 gallons of pre-buy propane in my account and they delivered 100 to me. That will only last about 2 weeks for my large old house. read more

Do NOT do business with this company. They will rip you off or let you freeze. Last summer I purchased a 500 gallon tank and pre-paid for 1000 gallons of propane. They did deliver the tank and the first tank fill. I am still owed 679 gallons of propane. I called 8 days ago for a fill and was told that it would be 3-5 business days to fill my tank. My tank is now empty and it is 10* outside. Now they won't return my calls and I cannot even get an operator on the online chat on their website. I am now calling the Ohio state attorney general at 800 282-0515. I suggest that others do the same if they have been ripped off by this company. Unless you like being cold, I would strongly suggest that you deal with a local dependable company, even if their advertised price is higher than Thrifty. Thrifty Propane attracts with decent propane prices but there are some serious deficiencies. Make sure you are willing to wait up to three weeks for a delivery request and don't expect an accounting unless you request it. The extra charges are adding up. Most serious of all: I have received two UNMETERED deliveries. Supposedly the delivery person knows the amount, but it is not on the delivery ticket. I can only guess that the price was fair! After attempting to contact customer service through emails, voice messages and chat and receiving ZERO response for two months, I have to conclude THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER. read more

I have never dealt with more rude customer service in my life. The representative Brad was nothing short of verbally abusive. I requested emergency propane and he said he would call me to let me know if it was possible. Not only did he write down the wrong phone number and was not able to get in touch with me, he wrote down the wrong credit card number. I kept calling back and getting a different story from 2 other reps. Because of him, we weren't able to get propane for 3 days. He blamed me for making him stay late to get the delivery approved when it was him who wrote the information down incorrectly. DO NOT BUY PROPANE FROM THIS COMPANY! I have filed a complaint with the Ohio Better Business Bureau. It will not be worth the pennies you save because they hook you with low prices. Their customer service is horrible. It sounds like their call center is over seas. You never get a receipt for your purchase. We did a large pre-buy before winter and every time we called to get a fill it was a struggle and painful. They claim delivery is 15 business days. And they stretch it out as far as possible so that 15 business days means you get your propane a month after you request it. It almost seemed like to me that if you are a prebuy customer, you've given them your money up front, so in the middle of winter when you need your fill, they would rather fill other peoples orders to get the cash right then. Very hard to reach anyone who can help you. I pre bought several thousand gallons of propane when the price was very good. Now in the depth of winter I called for a fill. I was told 10 business days. After 7 days I used their website chat (unreliable but only way to reach someone) they said I was still on the schedule. Then I got an e-mail saying I won't get a delivery call XXX to arrange a refund. I left 3 messages and sent e-mail. No call back no response. I feel they don't want to honor low pre bought price. I've been a thrifty customer for ten years....the service just keeps getting worse. I feel sorry for people who pre-buy or put money up front for a tank. I can't even get a fill in the summer time by waving cash in their face. No return phone calls ever. I receive coupons in my email all the time for pre-buy....no thank you!! You get on chat to find out a fill date only to be told they have put in a request to dispatch...when you tell them you've heard that line before they magically disappear. I have been doing business with Thrifty since 2005. I have purchased a refurbished 250 tank and fill, later purchased 500 refurbished tank with prebuy. Received everything as promised. Polite workers. Per gallon prices are good but review total costs, delivery, hazmat, credit card charge, order processing, etc. to understand total costs. Take Thrifty notices about lead times and limitations on delivery schedules seriously. My experience is that if you take appropriate actions so you can live with their delivery schedules and lead times then you are fine but don't ignore their lead times and delivery schedules and then feel disappointed. Also, I did pay for blocks/regulators that I ended up not needing and Thrifty did refund difference in reasonable time frame. read more

My story begins with the same as most, excellent price. Everything after that is a loss for me. My original order was for a fill of a 1000gal tank which added up to about 740gal and a pre-buy of 1000 gal. As most of you know already pre-buy is a little higher than the daily price, what I eventually received was a no show on the fill of 740. I was only charged for the pre-buy of 1000gal and when they did arrive for the fill they took the 740 from my pre-buy and not the daily rate. The amount of difference was not astronomical but still, I was scammed. From that day forward I tried to recover the additional cost and Jessie @ 1-800-879-3152 ext778 would not return my calls and when I finally did get in touch with her she denied any wrong on their part and offered no resolution for my loss. Essentially saying that my only option would be to buy the remaining balance that they shorted me. With that said, I declared all business done with Thrifty unworthy of my time and money yet they still have 260gal's of my propane. As soon as my tank would accept the 260 I called and said that I wanted to have my tank topped off so, In my eyes this would be a fill but not in Thrifty's eye's. This is considered a short fill and there are fee's associated. All and all my advice would be to stay with your local supplier. I ordered propane from my Thrifty prebuy account on January 11, 2018. My tank was at 35%, but I told thrifty it was at 30% because they notoriously take 10 business days to deliver and it was during a deep cold snap. I received a voice mail on January 12th confirming my order. I have run out of propane with them twice before, so I made sure I gave them plenty of time. Well, here I am February 7, 2018, more than 15 business days later waking up to a frigid house/ice storm/roads closed with NO PROPANE DELIVERED which means, no heat, no cooking, no hot water (and my son has the flu). I am at my wits end with these people. The driver is always courteous, and probably not his fault. I would give zero stars if I could. Though they draw you in with low prices, their service is beyond terrible. And there concern for safety is none. We came home and had a gas smell. I shut off the gas, cleared the house and called Thrifty. Couldn't reach a live person. Left two messages on different extensions. Called the next day when they were open, no live person. I made the decision then to switch companies. The new company had a repair person out within an hour and fixed the leaks. They even rushed a delivery so we had propane. Two days later I received a call, responding to my voicemail. I was told due to the extreme work load I needed to contact a licensed plumber to have the repairs made. Its not worth the lower price if you can't get the delivery. I had the same experience as most on here. Once they have your money they don't deliver within there promised time frame. Over 1 month + the 15 day delivery time and still no propane. I would have used another company but they had my money and I wasn't sure that they might attempt to do a delivery only to find out that my tank was full from another company. It states that they will charge you if they cant make the delivery. They will cease responding to your phone calls & emails except for the sales person. you can always reach him, but when you ask him questions about delivery or getting your money back he will tell you not his department and transfer you only to get hung up on. This was my experience with the Ohio Thrifty propane. Maybe, there's better Thrifty service in another state??? I requested a refund several times with no response. I had to contact the Ohio attorney general in order to get my $1500 pre-buy propane money back. Honestly, I don't know how this company is allowed to stay in business. I have had a very difficult time with Thrifty, whereas in the past they seemed to be a legit company. I purchased a 500 gallon tank and a fill over a month ago and cannot get a commitment as to tank instillation at all. I was told it would be 4 weeks to have instillation when I paid them but now 4 weeks later I can't get anyone from the company to even return my phone calls or emails. I have emailed and called leaving multiple messages for the past 7 days and have not gotten one response or call back. At this point I'm wondering if I'll get any service at all. But they sure cashed my check right away. I looked them up on the Better Business Bureaus website and I noticed I'm not the only one with this complaint. I just want a date for service. Buyer beware. I placed an order online 3 weeks ago and input my credit card. I got an email with rate quotes- no follow up. I called in 2 weeks ago and placed the order over the phone (they couldn't find my online order). The lady was nice but no ETA on delivery. I have contacted them twice through email. Both times I was told that my email concerns would be forwarded to a supervisor and a group that handles ETA's for delivery. I have yet to hear back from them. I called twice today. The first call, it was disconnected on transfer. I called back and was put into voice mail. Left voice mail to cancel my order. Called a competitor and they are delivering on Monday at $.20 less than Thrifty. Terrible, unacceptable customer service. Will never use them or recommend them again. Bought a tank from Thrifty. They installed it and had to come back out to adjust. Instead of parking in the driveway, they drove their truck on my yard causing 24" holes, mud slides, and running over a pear tree. Had to be pulled out by the driver coming to deliver gas. His name was Cory and had a bad attitude. The repair guy laughed at the situation. After 3 bails of hay, 20lbs of premium grass seed, 6 yards of top soil, and diesel fuel all over my driveway, my yard still looks a mess. No help from customer service. Left messages, call back requests, online chats, and all went unanswered. I have a balance owed to them, which will not be paid until they compensate me for my out of pocket expense. Have only been using Thrifty since January 2015 and have requested 2 fills and both times now both have had the same issues. FIrst fill took 27 days to receive, wonderful in middle of winter with a newborn in the house, second request is now on BUSINESS day 12 aka day 17. Please, if you value warmth and hot water look elsewhere. $50-$100 saved just isn't worth it. Also, don't subject yourself to their low rent customer service. Buyer extremely beware in north east Ohio. These people will steal your money!!!! Ordered propane and a tank two months ago, the day after I ordered they withdrew my payment of over 1200 dollars. They scheduled my propane delivery a month later. Two days before my delivery date they called and said they lost their driver and would have to delay my delivery for two more weeks. They asked me to take the day off of work to be there for the installation of the tank. I called the day before the delivery to make sure it was still on the books and I couldn't get ahold of any one. I left messages and call back numbers. I placed an order for my tank to be filled in October, a month later, nothing, no propane, no calls. I call 17 times, over the span of 3 days, just to talk to somone who would actually HELP me and they tell me that my county was now 'not serviceable' and I would need to cancel the order and place one with someone else. Okay, done. 3 weeks AFTER that order was 'canceled' I have a voicemail stating that a delivery driver was there to fill my tank but it looked almost full already (because I had gone to another company at that point). The driver stated in the voicemail that he would just leave if he didn't hear back from me. No receipt was left anywhere. A month later, I see on my credit card statement that I was charged by Thrifty for $166 for a 'top off' of propane. I NEVER authorized this charge. I have called them 21 times, over the span of 3 days now, and I cannot get one freaking person in the billing department to speak to me. I have left voicemails, emails, and spoken to customer service people who just transfer me to billing, which automatically goes to voicemail. I called my credit card company and told them to report the charge as fraud, because that's EXACTLY what it is. DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY if you want good service and if you want to ACTUALLY get propane. And for the record, this is a legit complaint and the first negative review that I have EVER left any company. I am forwarning everyone, take your business elsewhere.
