Modern Process Plumbing - Sewer cleaning

Last summer, we had one particularly heavy rainstorm in Akron during which the city sewer system…read morebecame overloaded and burped into my basement. Cue my search for someone to install a backwater valve in my drainage line to make sure that doesn't happen again. Most contractors I called either seemed uninterested in trying to work around my (admittedly horrible) schedule or promised to come out and never arrived to give me an estimate. Then I found Modern Process Plumbing. Unlike most people I've dealt with regarding home repair or construction in the past, they gave me a very specific time they'd be out for the estimate and arrived exactly when they said they'd be here. They had the estimate ready for me a couple of days later. Their work proposal was as good as or better than any of the others I received and the price was lower. Better yet, they were willing to come out and do the work on Saturday so that I wouldn't have to take a day off of work (which would make the job far more expensive for me.) They arrived to start the work around 10:30 or so and were finished installing the valve, repairing the concrete, and cleaning everything up in the basement about five hours later. They took extra care to make as little mess as possible and were still apologetic about not thinking they'd cleaned up enough when they were done even though I can't see much of a mess at all down there. I will definitely be keeping these guys in mind for any plumbing work I have in the future.

I called Plumbing Excellence in a pinch when our water heater started leaking. Anthony responded quickly and worked into the evening to get a new one installed, and we had hot water again that night! We were so satisfied with his work and his service that we hired him to fix a gas leak in our fireplace, too. He did, and now we have a working fireplace again, too! Thanks Anthony! Anthony was meticulous but not slow in getting the job done right, kept communication open and honest, and waited patiently at my house while I finished pricing other options. He explained that a hardware store water heater is of cheaper quality than the "professional" model he would install. He also correctly guessed that a competitive quote had come in lower because they did not factor in permitting the work, which he felt was important, and I agreed. He did look for multiple ways to save us some money, including combining visits, not charging for the initial investigation of our gas leak, discounting a subsequent job; he even researched the design lifetime of my new water heater and recommended against getting an extended warrantee in my case since the heater was built to last at least that long if not longer. Anthony and team were friendly, passionate, and a delight to have at our house. I would hire Plumbing Excellence again or call them for advice any time!

Not very happy with their service. Paid over $500. to find and fix gas leak. They did their work,…read moresaid they corrected leak and left. Gas company comes out to turn Gas back on and says it's still leaking. Call Buddy's back out, they now say the leak is coming from the main line going into the house, and give an estimate of almost $6000 to fix. So, let me get this straight...you want me to hire you again for a $6000 job, when i just paid you over $500 and you obviously didnt do much of anything except maybe do a pressure test which accomplished nothing and benefitted me zero? I don't think so.....

I have mixed feelings... I have a service plan, but my mom and my brother don't. My brother got the…read moredenial on a coupon for his furnace check today because he used one for his AC earlier in the year. My mom has a warranty on a part for her furnace that needs replaced, but the tech was so focused on trying to sell her a new furnace and air duct cleaning. When I had them over, they were fixated on the age of my AC and how I should replace it when it still works. This is where I got really confused: I called to schedule for AC clean & check + a clean and check on my tankless hot water heater. Visit 1: Someone came out to look at my water heater only, said it was installed wrong, and it would need repaired (did not clean). I think I might've paid $89, I'm not sure. I can't remember. Visit 2: Office schedules someone else, they said it was fine. This person didn't clean/check the water heater nor the AC, but sat down to talk to me about duct cleaning and upgrades. I'm super confused because I thought I was getting clean & checks. Visit 3: A man & woman hastily come to clean & check my AC. A plumber arrives at the same time to clean/check the tankless. The man & woman find something to repair on the AC. They kinda rush through the explanation, I pay in a daze, but I want a service plan because I have the tankless, reverse osmosis, water softener, the AC, and the furnace. Plus the plumber is still working. I didn't know they drove separately. I pay for the AC job because they seem rushed. The plumber is more relaxed (Jeff Lardo - he's the man. Hire him) sits down and explains everything to me about service plans, my hot water tank, my RO system filters, what Gene's can do, toilets (I need to replace one). I get the service plan. Epilogue: I have to contact the office to get the AC repair figured out with the service plan I wanted to buy. They're nice about it. Bonus - My mom's visit I experienced: I was at my mom's house and a jolly tech from Texas was here to clean/check my mom's furnace. Nice enough guy, I liked him. I prickled when he called my injured dog "fatso," lol. But it was said in an affectionate way. My dog is a bit chubby, haha. It felt more like Gene's was pushing a sales agenda more than providing HVAC services. It's depressing because my family has been using Gene's since the 1970s. My mom did get the UV light installed because those are genuinely good products, but trying to strong arm an older lady into a new furnace when she has a lifetime warranty on one part that needs replaced felt bad. It felt like they were doing the strong arm on me as well since I was a woman. It felt bad. But the work was done well. The tech was really nice. Bonus bonus - My brother's phone call: My brother just called to make an appointment for his furnace. Since he used a coupon for his AC, he was told his furnace would be $120. He said no thank you. But he said the office person was nice. He is going to find another place to take care of his furnace. Like I said - mixed feelings +10 stars for Jeff Lardo, the plumber +10 stars for the office staff -7 stars for the confusion with needing 3 visits to clean my tankless -6 stars for sales tactics -3 dog bones for hurting my dogs' feelings

WORK DONE BY GENE'S REFRIGERATION AND HEATING WORK DONE ON:…read more9/1/26 APPROX. TIME COMPLETED: 2:30PM WORK DONE BY: CHRIS Per above date, I noticed that my air conditioner was not working properly very early in the morning. I had the thermostat set at 73 degrees and it was 75 in the house, and there was very little air coming out of the registers. Because of this I went online very early in the morning to see if I could get someone out to the house to correct the problem. I contacted several companies, online, and the first one to contact me was Gene's. I received a message that they (Gene's) could arrive at my house between 8 - 9:30 AM. It ended up that they changed it to 1:15 PM. Chris came out and looked over the furnace, condenser and everything that could be possible wrong. After his evaluation, Chris told me he had 2 solutions for the problem. It was for $2000 and one was for $1000. He started with the 2K first, which I had no intentions of picking. He went on and on how he was going to add this and that to the furnace. He then told me very minimal solutions on the $1000 fix. Nothing at any time did he mention he was going to install a Cap-Hard Start kit! Actually, I don't even recall him saying anything about what he was going to do at that price. Being it was half price of the first solution I mistakenly took the second solution. Now for the problem. Not approving a startup kit that he charged me $219.02 for. He never even mentioned this kit prior to install. Chris listed it at $273.78. I went online and this OEM kit can be purchased for $155. That is what I can purchase it for, I'm sure the company can purchase it for much lower. The second item a dual capacitor. Chris noted that the standard price was $283.38. I went on like and the OEM price is $21.84. My final cost was $226.70! That is 10 times the mark up! The third item was the contractor. Chris noted standard price $318.36. I went online and standard OEM price was $34.00. Chris charged me $254.69. That's 7.5 times standard price! Chris told me that the drain from the A coil was incorrectly installed and that it would eventually get plugged. I went online to verify this and he was totally wrong, this install was correct, they call it a "P" trap. After all work was completed, Chris then started telling me about my smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and how long the last and where they should be mounted. Then Chris adds an annual protection plan at $263.40 which was NEVER mentioned to me! I do not want to do business with this company ever again and I want my money back for this! Per all the money I spent, I want Gene's to refund some of my money. I certainly do not want their protection plan for$236.40! Spoke to Erica today (9/8/26) at approx. 8:30 AM, and was told if I cancel the protection plan, I will owe them an additional $300.00! I will get NO refunds! I feel I was totally over charged, and I want my $236 plus the over charge for the parts. I know the OEM costs, have Gene's show their cost and part no. Raymond Yankura
