If you are going to get a car rental, DO NOT use Thrifty Car Rental. We picked up the car from the detroit airport and drove to Tennessee over Thanksgiving. We used tickets at work, which is a third party company, to book the rental. We were charged $560 through tickets at work. When we picked up the car, we had to put a card on file which I figured would be for damage purposes. They then charged me $442. I figured the $442.00 was the hold as a just in case.... Unfortunately the charge of $442 never fell off our card. I filed a dispute with our credit card company. They ended up closing the dispute because Thrifty Car Rental NEVER RESPONDED TO THE DISPUTE INQUIRY AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS OVER A 3+ MONTH PERIOD. I received the notification of the dispute being closed and called Thrifty. After being on a merry go round of lies, I was able to get my case "escalated." I received an email a couple of hours later saying they were refunding $296. I proceeded to call again and demand for the full refund. My inner Grandpa Fisher came out, during both calls if im being honest, and the rep did tell me that I'm now getting the difference back too. Thankfully I have two emails stating what they are giving back to me. We shall see what happens as it will take 72 hours. read more

Location: 2429 S. HWY 14 Greer, SC 29650 Devon Jackson, the manager is very unprofessional. When we made reservations it was noted my husband will be an additional driver; we manually signed the form confirming there was an additional driver. Because the staff did not note it in their system and Devon was working remotely and couldn't access the form to verify; he accused us of purposely withholding this information. He made a scene, quickly charged us $150 penalty penalty fee and threatened to call security on me when I asked for his name and his managers name to file a complaint. He wouldn't fulfill my extended reservation I had place due my flight cancellation, traveling with a family of 6. Hes the worst and SHOULD NOT be managing anything/representing the company. He clearly was upset they were short staffed and we were his outlet. The worst experience and customer service ever!! Beware! Manager Alexis responded in support of Devon's behavior and associate, Jermaine as well who checked us in. Tried to CYA and admitted we signed the form for an additional driver and he didn't explain there was an additional fee, but we didn't actual tell him the penalty fee is valid! Don't go to this location bypass. Terrible! They had no cars for our reservation because of a week-long "glitch" and we had to call someone and argue for at least 20 minutes because they wanted us to drive across the state in an Uber to get a rental car from them. Literally couldn't stay another minute in this place, we left completely irritated and annoyed. DO NOT COME HERE FOR ANY REASON!!! Safe to say that we will never buy from them again. read more

This morning I had an employee at the dollar / Thrifty car pickup on Highway 14 in Greer threaten to "take me outside and show me what rude is". He had to be drug into the back by two other employees who closed the door behind them. Ya'll.... I should have called the police. I have never been threatened with physical violence when trying to pick up a rental car. The manager, Patricia I believe, was worse than he was. I went over to Alamo and got my rental from happy, smiling, SANE people. Stay FAR away from this place. Their Google reviews are awful. I wish I would have read them prior to booking a reservation online last week. There's also no mention of the fact that they are not actually located at the airport and even if you do figure out that you have to call their shuttle service, there's no number listed or way to call them on your reservation or itinerary. The way I was treated at this location today was absolutely unacceptable. I have never in my life experienced such at a business. I truly don't understand how their corporate managers allow these kind of people to run a location of a major company. So the first time I rented was fine. But then they add on additional fees . They put me on a do not rent list till they revived the money order for the cleaning fee lol. Also they won't let u pay the fee with credit card u have get a money order lol Then I had to pay 80 in Uber to get their an back because they said I was off the DNR list then I get there an refuse to rent to me. I made a reservation for on the 17th March for an SUV(7 Passenger) for April 7th.. after calling the day before and being on hold for an hour.. the lady assure me they would have my suv!! Only for me to get there last night and they offer me a charger or a jeep. I reserved a 7 passenger for a reason.. I have 6 people in my party.. Everyone seems disappointed with this business, but my experience was wonderful. As soon as I landed, I called and was picked up a few minutes later and taken a short distance to their office. After a lot of paperwork, I left with a beautiful red Jeep Grand Cherokee with only 3 miles on the odometer. They said it just came in that day. I thought it was a bit high, but I thoroughly enjoyed this car for a full week. No complaints with my experience whatsoever! read more

They proudly explained the reason for this is they are a franchise- not affiliated with the Dollar/Thrifty company. Then, when I showed up, the ONLY rental the manager - Wayne - would allow for the night without forcing me to pay a minimum $20 upgrade fee was a truck. This is my first car rental experience and so I cant say I experienced better, but I can say that this place is a sketchy place to do business with. I received a notice in the mail stating that I had outstanding charges of $157.40! I called in and was notified that I have been charged a late fee for not having the rental car back in time. Both me and my husband were notified that we needed to have the car returned in time before the store opens at 7am on Sunday 7/15/2018 for the store would not be opened on Saturday 7/14/2018. The car was returned Sunday morning at around 2am with the keys slid under the gate on the inside (as instructed) and I was notified that it wasn't returned until sometime that Sunday after 11 am. Well I can assure you that that time is completely fabricated for at that time I was in the airport boarding my flight back home. I even sent them a screenshot of my flight ticket showing when I left. So how they came up with that fabricated time is beyond me. The employee that participated in this agreement was Derek B. Both me and my husband went over the rental expectations with Derek and when we needed to have the car back several times. Derek notified us that the store would be closed on Saturday 7/14/2018 and we were able to return the car back on Sunday 7/15/2018 before the store opened to avoid these additional charges. I was then notified by a rep that was working that day that this detail was not true and that the store is open 7 days a week! I'm not sure what kind of scam business is being ran here but I WILL NOT be paying this $157.40! If anything the charges should be deducted from your employees check or dismissed for providing us with incorrect information. I am now in the disputing process due to this "anything for a dollar" scheme. If the conversation and outdoor surveillance was recorded and played back, it will prove that we are not liable to pay this fee. But the fact that I have to take time out of my day and deal with this type of frustration is infuriating! Update- Management at the location removed the charges after looking into the matter so all is well now. still a little worked up but they advised I could disregard the notice. I advise documenting everything they say in writing or record what is not on the paperwork to avoid he say she say conflicts like such. read more

This Rental agency is one you don't want to rent from. They have hidden rates that they add. The front desk workers are so rude! This company is backwards. Why can people under 25 only rent full size SUV instead of normal size car? They don't care about their customers. This would be the LAST place I would recommend. They run your credit and take your money. If your credit was declined it took 12 days to refund the $300. Why would you not run the credit before you take the money? If I could give a negative rating I would. I made this reservation thinking it was at the GSP airport. They are not. They are about 1 mile away. Yes they have a shuttle but when your flight comes in at 1130pm, the last thing you want to do is have to call them to shuttle you. But that's nothing. First I got the car in the dark (at midnight) so the next mornign I realized the car was filthy. They had not vacummed the car. Still not a biggie (just very odd that most rental cars are spotless and smell great). But the kicker is on my final day in SC as I was driving the car's alternator went out on me. Thank God I was able to turn into a Hardee's. I had to call my AAA and they informed me it was the alternator. Then I had to have AAA tow the car back to Greer (one hour away from where I was). This took up 5 hours of my final day and meant I had to cancel my final appointments. I get another vehicle, that is also filthy with pet hair all over the passenger seat and spots. I drive it anyway as I still have people to meet in Greenville. As if this wasnt bad enough, I go and return the call the following day making sure the replacement car is full. And then I go and tell the girl at the counter about my experience. she tells me she will have the manager call me (still waiting on that). Then she prints my receipt and I see that. I GOT CHARGED FOR GAS FOR THE CAR THAT BROKE DOWN ON ME. Yes the car completely shut down and yet I GOT CHARGED FOR IT NOT BEING ON FULL. Seeing how ridiculous that was the girl assured me she would note that and tell the manager. I'm still waiting. I even put in a complaint through corporate. Still nothing. Go with Enterprise people. If you find a few dollar savings here, there is a reason, you compromise service, quality and maybe even your life with the unserviced lemons they rent out! The other reviews are spot on! I booked a rental car through Thrifty using the Southwest app over two months ago for a reservation starting on April 2 and ending on April 4 in Greenville, SC. When I arrived in Greenville, I was informed that this site had no more cars and my reservation would not be honored. Unfortunately, I was now left with no car and a wedding I needed to go to 45 minutes away from the airport. I purchased an on-site reservation through Budget at nearly twice the rate that I had reserved through Thrifty. This was the only option available as I was high and dry without a vehicle due to Thrifty failing to fulfill a long held reservation. I have received no response from Thrifty to my written inquiry. When I called on the telephone, I was offered a $25 certificate for a future rental. What I think is fair is reimbursement for the difference. Do reservations mean nothing anymore? I wish someone from the company would make this right! read more

They told me "we have already inspected the vehicle, just sign here"..... big mistake. When i returned the car they charged me $500 + for repairs for the damage that was already there when i picked it up. HIDDEN FEES UP FRONT AND AFTER TURN IN. MANY OTHER SIMILAR REVIEWS. BE WARNED. Made the reservation for $490.07. At the counter to pick up vehicle, they added daily fees that were not in the reservation. Bill went up to $674.93. Checked my car back in, their agent inspected the vehicle and told me everything was fine, and there would be no charges. 2 weeks later I get a $250 charge on my credit card from them. When I called they said it was for a cleaning fee, and that the agent on duty that day was new, but I would be responsible anyway. Cleaning fee was not on the agreement they gave me. Lets be real, you can get a full detail including the engine and full hand wax for about a third of what they want to charge me anyway. If there were crumbs on the floor, sorry, but if the agent had mentioned them, there's a car wash about 2 blocks away. There was no form saying they could charge that. I reversed the credit card charge. 9 months later I get a collections letter. They include a rental agreement that is not signed. The agreement they send me is blank except for the cleaning fee, no daily rate or charge, or payment, as paid and agreed for the car. Now I am having to write the credit bureaus and dispute it to get it off of my credit. Might as well hit the BBB, Google, yelp and FB while I'm at it. read more

I wish NEGATIVE stars were possible. TERRIBLE CHECK OUT EXPERIENCE. First, you don't realize they're not on-field until you land at the airport. You have to find a nondescript phone (tied to local hotels) to call them (I booked under Dollar, so I had to make the switch that it was Thrifty). Guy told me "10 minutes at most, and anyway we make a loop so if you miss it, no problem." Well, I went straight outside, and waited. From 9:45PM on a Sunday until 10:20PM. With one other person who also needed a ride there. It's a 55 SECOND DRIVE to get to the rental place. What was their driver doing for 35 minutes? Then, we get there and there is NO ONE inside behind the counter. But, there WAS a line of 3 people waiting to pic up their rentals. The poor woman at the front of the line was asked to produce physical proof of her insurance. Hmm, really? This, after 20 minutes trying to "find" her reservation. The next two people in front of me (not women) were processed and done in 8 minutes. So, I waited nearly 30 minutes for this, after 35 minutes for the "shuttle". I realize this is not New York City, but seriously? My flight landed at 9:35 and I left the car rental place at 10:50PM on a SUNDAY NIGHT! This wasn't a "rush" time, like Monday morning. The ONLY ray of sunshine was the return. Young guy, very upbeat, served me right away, drove me immediately to the airport. Super helpful, happy young man. I felt tempted to advise him to go work for someone else, but was afraid he might be the owner's son or something. I would buy a used car from some place before I'd rent from these guys again. Do yourself a favor and spend more money with some other company. Where did I go wrong, I didn't use the company's website to reserve my vehicle but I used AAA. Here's the problem, AAA says you can rent a mini van (ex. Dodge Caravan or similar) but on Thrifty's website they call a mini van a Ford Flex. Now you may be thinking that this isn't this agencies problem except when it comes to how they resolve the issue. I find out that my secured reservation was not a mini van but a Flex, which wasn't going to work. The agent couldn't get this resolved w/o myself and my wife getting very upset, we finally spoke with this location's VP (via phone) which was very accommodating but it was still an ordeal just to deal with the agent. We were there for over an hour and it wasn't because I had to wait a long time before I was helped, this transaction took forever. The agent could have done a better job explaining the issue and showing empathy on our ends for being offered something totally different than what we wanted and needed. I could go on but I won't, so it's up to you whether you want to rent from here or not. Rented a vehicle did not read small print went out of state got a 575.00 bill in the mail. I did try to work it out with manager but no return call after several phone calls and when I talked to billing she said she will have the manager call me instead I got an email that the manager won't budge on the high penalty and .32 mile. I rented there numerous times this past year and was not asking for her to waive the entire fee just not charge the full penalty. Customer service they could care less. Also they says it's at the airport it's not they have to run a shuttle to pick you up to drive to there facility. Better off using the other rental companies that way you don't need someone to drop you off and pick you up when done with the rental. Also they mostly have trucks jeeps etc they book you a small or medium car when you get there there say there upgrading you to truck or jeep small cars are gone if you looking for a gas saver stay away . read more

DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. I was stuck in Atlanta and needed to get home so my company got a car from Thifty. I had to return it to GSP and it is actually off site on Wade Hampton. Not a big deal. I walked in to return the car and shared that the seat was broken and I had to drive two and a half hours from Altanta with a seat that was reclined- I was told they were only a franchise and could not discuss it. Nor would they discuss the 350 charge that was on my card. In addition I looked at my bill and they charged me 75 for gas for a 1/4 a tank. read more

Very disappointing experience w Thrifty. Nowhere in the two confirmation emails I received from Thrifty does it say they are located off site from the airport. After waiting 40 minutes for my bag, I walked to the rental car area and saw no sign for Thrifty. Nothing. The first person in the parking garage had no idea, the second I asked told me to go back over to the airport, and find someone to call. ??? I went to the airport customer service desk - again, there was NO SIGNAGE at all anywhere re Thrifty, and nothing in the emails instructing to do this - and she wrote the # down on a piece of scrap paper so I could call for the shuttle. After waiting for the shuttle, all of us who boarded commiserated as we had the exact same experience. Nobody knew the Thrifty counter was offsite and nobody knew to call for a shuttle - they did the exact same thing of wandering over to Hertz or another counter and asking them. The shuttle driver told us the courtesy phone was removed one year ago and nothing has been done since. read more

To make any changes to your rental contract you can't do it over the phone- they make you drive there regardless of where you are staying. They are the worst of the worst, I have never had any problems with renting services before. They have been so bad to me, and lied so much. I have been fighting against a charge for damage for over $1,000 for the last 3 months now. I didn't damage the vehicle that I rented, but even though the terrible lady that works there found a way to mess me up, so now i HAVE a claim with my insurance company and we have to deal with their management team. They are trying to make more money out of me, and have charged me for loss of use , and it's almost $500 just for that, which is ridiculous, to repair that vehicle would never take more than 1 hour, and they are lying to me and trying to hurt my credit history since they are saying that If i don't pay, they will send me to National Collection. Always a great experience renting from this location at Highway 14 and GSP drive. I find it amusing that people complain about waiting less than an hour to get picked up at the airport, rent a car, and be on their merry way and that they feel the need to rate this location low based on their own mistakes of not knowing where it is located or what kind of car they reserved. WOW. Our experience is that they are always courteous, always helpful, and always have exactly what we reserved and we have rented from here multiple times for trips in the Southeast. read more
