Thrive yoga is more than a spot to do yoga-it's a community. I ran into their booth at a Rockville town square event like 10 years ago and won a free yoga Mat. I had a hard time finding Thrive to obtain my free Mat since it's somewhat hidden in Sunshine square, but when you walk in-it's so welcoming like a hidden oasis of peace and love! I got my mat and joined a few classes-not knowing much about yoga. 10 years later, I've tried other places, but nothing compares to Thrive. Susan and her team have made thrive this amazing place to learn, practice and become your best self. I now consider myself an advanced yogi and pay the yearly membership because I don't ever plan on leaving! WOW! Thrive is one of the best places I've found since moving to the area. I went for an event and got to enjoy arial, acro, and the gong bath. All of which was so relaxing and guided well. The instructors I met were well informed and relatable, I always felt like I was in great hands with them. The inside of Thrive is calm and soothing. They have a small store in the front with very fashionable clothing and items for sale. If you've never had a gong bath HIGHLY recommend it! All of the staff I met were kind and helpful. Thrive is an amazing place that focuses not only on the physical asana practice but also does a wonderful job of bringing breathing and meditation into those practices . All teachers are amazing with their own unique style of teaching. I absolutely love the Sunday morning mediation class that they started a few months back. This place is pretty cool. From the moment you walk in, you'll feel like you have left the states...or at least rockville pike. There isn't a trace of corporate/business/gym to be found. Cobblestone pathways, trees, plants and a waterfall all give you the sense you have escaped to some remote country on a yoga retreat. Any which way you turn, you'll see a serene buddha welcoming you, and warm colors and fabrics soothing your eyes. Your heart rate will drop 10 beats before signing in. ahhhhhhh..... or rather.... ohhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm. Now, onto the classes. They offer a WIDE variety of classes, including specialty classes like the new 'hanging yoga' I keep hearing about. Pregnancy yoga, Tibetan heart yoga, meditation yoga....the list goes on and on. It looks like they have two main studios, and then one small private studio for 1-on-1 sessions (cool!). I will say, the studios are fairly small, so you are fairly stacked up with your neighbors....if you like a lot of room for your practice, this might not be the place for you. But that aside, the energy of the instructors and the students is great. Very peaceful, I'm-ok-you're-ok vibe that celebrates your practice - WHATEVER level you're at. No competition or intimidation here....students of all ages, races, shapes and sizes. I had to withhold a star because they need to work on their ambiant music game...the first 20 minutes of my class were spa/zen/meditation music, but then it morphed into top 40 contemporary music, and then back to spa music by the end of the class. Thrive Yoga is a very relaxing yoga studio located in Rockville, MD. I walked in during a lunch at a nearby restaurant and was greeted by a friendly receptionist. The space has cascading waterfalls, river rock flooring, greenery and artifacts from Asia. You can chose from a variety of more than 30 classes and workshops for beginners through advanced students. I went online and signed up and paid for a class -- it was very easy to do. I decided to do the Hot Vinyasa but ended up doind a Relaxation Yoga instead because I was not there on time. The facility is very calming and the instructors were very helpful. The price for one class was a bit high at $20 when I am used to around $15 to $18. I can't say for sure if I will be signing up for a package just yet. But overall, Thrive seems like a good option. read more

Just finished a retreat with Thrive Yoga in Costa Rica. I'd been a practitioner there for years in Rockville, and had stopped while healing my back and waiting for Covid to pass (as if!) The retreat was incredible and truly inspiring! It reminded me of what brought me to Thrive... yoga, human connection, spirituality, and a true sense of community. I've wanted to try this place for a while since I moved to the area, so you don't know how excited I was when they had a Groupon discount offer to have a go at this place. A great yoga studio in Rockville off 355 with the right balance of ambiance, structure of practice yet levity of personal freedom of practice with very personable, knowledgeable and overall friendly staff. Susan Bowen and her staff were excellent instructors setting the tone of their vinyasa-based philosophy for a productive yoga practice, catering to yogis of all levels. The hot vinyasa classes have the perfect level of warmth that's not too stifling yet warm enough to invigorate and deepen your yoga practice. I liked the studio enough to buy more student passes, and they receptionist was nice enough to offer me the new student unlimited month pass for $49. Great for more yoga, not so great for less time at my actual gym. read more

Do yourself a favor DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! They will rip you off!!! They are CON ARTISTS of the highest order!!! If you want to learn AIERAL YOGA FIND A DIFFERENT VENUE!! I called them over a month ago and signed my self and a friend up for a workshop class for beginners and the class that follows . This was was suppose to be a going away gift for my friend. The person on the phone asked me for our names and my phone number and said we were all set. Two days before the class began I called to verify the address. They informed me that they had no record of me or my friend and no places left in the workshop! No apology from them. I was furious, since I had already psyched my friend up for the experience and planned on being there for a good part of that day. They called the owner who told them that they should let us forego the workshop and come to the class and that she ( i.e. the owner)and the instructor ( who I was told was listening to what was transpiring at the time) would both be present during our class to assist us in any way needed. We therefore had no reason to have any reason to have reservations about attending the class without the beginner workshop. Although, I wasn't happy with the new arrangement , it was too late for me to scramble to find a comparable going away gift , so I agreed to give them my credit card number over the phone. We arrived early for the class and were told 1.) that that we weren't both on their class list however, they were letting the credit card charge for both of us go through!! 2) and if they offered us the grand 'favor' of letting us take the class, but warned us repeatedly,that it would be VERY VERY dangerous since we hadn't done the workshop first!! They refused to credit me for the class . But it gets worse!! We were told that the instructor would not have time to help us in class and that neither the owner nor anyone else would watch out for us ,as was promised in our earlier discussion when they were quick to take my credit card number!!! . Even worse, because the owner never even showed up, liked she had promised,they even refused to even call her at my request! We walked out of there furious. Our day was ruined. They offered no apology. I was charged for a class we didn't take. But what infuriated me most was that the mistake was theirs from the beginning. They never acknowledged their first mistake, never kept their word after that, and essentially have no qualms about taking advantage of their customers !!!!!!! Sleezy !!! Look elsewhere for honest professionals that know what their doing!! I give them ZERO STARS FOR INTEGRITY! I see the owner has now responded to my negative review of her business. It figures that instead of apologizing for their multiple mistakes she deflects any criticism by name calling. Interesting. Very sophisticated and wise business practice. I recommend this studio for beginner to intermediate yogis. I really liked the variety of classes that they offer, and the great mix of teachers who all bring something new and different to the table. The teacher and the customer service are friendly, and I always felt they were available for questions. BTW-there hot yoga does not mean bikram yoga/traditional hot yoga. I'm fairly new to Thrive and I'm already impressed. I took the 8 week Yoga Rookie: Hot Vinyassa workshop ($99) and really enjoyed it. I especially liked the small class size. Now I'm looking forward to trying other classes. I paid only $49 for 8 weeks of unlimited yoga, which I think is a great deal! I'd definitely recommend Thrive to a friend. My experience at Thrive is always challenging and rewarding. The instructors have patience and provide a lot of adjustments. The only problem is the crowded conditions in some of the level 1 classes. Sometimes participants are literally mat-to -mat with each other. Thrive provides excellent workshops in a variety of yoga styles. Also, Thrive provides an opportunity for individuals to interact with prominent Yoga teachers like Ana Forrest and Desiree Rumbaugh. Not having been to Thrive, I took a chance and signed up for their prenatal series. I started going when I was 16 weeks pregnant and find the classes to be so helpful that I signed up for another series. Here are some of my observations/suggestions: INSTRUCTORS I went to Jessica and Danielle classes mostly and I enjoyed them. You will find that different instructors have different styles, and Jessica's classes were my favorite as she concentrated a lot on breathing. Danielle's classes were very chill and relaxing. I did not enjoy Dorota's classes as they are too fast-paced and not suitable for pregnant ladies. Dorota is very nice and friendly but I left her class not feeling good. SCHEDULE I wish they have morning or afternoon prenatal classes on weekends. The classes are scheduled from 12:30-1:45pm which is lunch time and I find it hard to wait until after class to eat and not suitable to eat before class. It's trivial for most people but when you are pregnant... You get so hungry!! That is one suggestion I have for Thrive: schedule a morning class on weekends for prenatal yoga class. STUDIO The studio is beautiful and clean. I love that they provide teas, and the staff is friendly. There is also a strong sense of community and feels very comfortable. I would say overall I like the instructors at Thrive, and they offer classes at all different times of day and days of the week. I'm taking off three stars though for the number of students allowed in each class. Depending on the class, if it doesn't fill up, you can expect a good amount of individual attention from the instructor on your posture in various different poses. However, I have been in a couple of full classes, and there is just no way for the instructor to get around to everyone. For me, the last straw was a prenatal class I enrolled in. The room was completely full and felt claustrophobic. At one point, the instructor wanted us to stretch our arms out and do circles. There was literally no room and we all ended up hitting each other or having to move to staggering locations on our mat to have enough space. The prenatal series was relatively inexpensive, but honestly, I would have rather paid more money and had less people in the class. I commute to work on the metro...I don't need to feel like a sardine anymore than I already do. Especially in a room full of pregnant women. read more

I've been a regular in both of Anjuli's classes (Hatha on Mondays and Yin on Thursdays), and have also attended Kristen's Saturday morning class and Nahla's Restorative class. I've loved all of them, and they have all been so different. Yin with Anjuli is my favorite: low light, long poses, beautiful meditations throughout the practice, and a cohort of very kindhearted folks whose collective energy always = bliss. The Thrive space and beautiful classes have been such a blessing to me. My suggestion for newbies is to take advantage of the intro $50 unlimited deal and treat yourself to as many different classes as you can in that time. read more

I came here on the recommendation of a colleague, and my only regret is not coming here sooner. They offer a wide variety of yoga classes, from the most basic to the most challenging, and embrace all kinds of body shapes, sizes, and ages in their classes. It does not have the elitism of the Bethesda-based yoga studios I've been to, nor does it have the clanking/thudding weightlifting noises in the background that have bothered me when I've taken yoga classes at gyms. The instructors are attentive, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the space itself is gorgeous. I just finished the 5-class deal that Groupon had, and I was very impressed with this studio. Aesthetically, the studio is beautiful and the staff was very friendly. I had the opportunity to take 3 hatha yoga classes with different instructors, and a vinyasa flow and hot vinyasa class with Susan Bowen. I have the most exposure to hatha yoga, and felt that Joe Roberson and Julie Alter were exceptional. I feel that when searching for a yoga instructor, it is important to find someone who fits your style best, and the variety of instructors they have here simplify this process. Susan's classes were a wonderful challenge for me. She has a great energy, and always offered variations in the mixed classes and guidance for beginners like me! While I have taken yoga classes for the past 3 years, I consider my skill level a beginner because I have been so sporadic. The only other studio I have practiced at locally is Sacred Space, and I personally prefer Thrive. At Thrive Yoga, I feel the instructors are really committed to working with their students to improve practice. I will soon be spending the majority of my time in Baltimore, but I hope to find a comparable studio and look forward to being able to take classes at Thrive when I return to Rockville. read more

I love this yoga place! It's not the type of yoga that is super intense, but a more of a holistic type of yoga. There is a lot of focus on breathing and posture/form that I really enjoyed. I took some of the Open Vinyasa classes with the intro month pass ($49 for unlimited! Sweet deal). I noticed every teacher had a different style so that was really cool. Some teachers mixed up what they would teach each week. The studio has a really zen vibe to it - the decorations and music. There's a cute boutique at the front for clothes and mats. No showers but there are changing rooms. The two studios are pretty big for the classes. I've only gone to one morning class on Saturday where I felt the class was too crowded. The staff also seems to really care about you! I got calls to check in on my intro pass usage. Overall, I really enjoy coming here! read more

Thrive is a supportive and inclusive studio. Thrive has carefully molded a safe space for those from all walks of life, at many stages of their journeys. You will feel welcomed here. I have recently moved away from Maryland, and with that being said, Thrive is no longer a part of my path. There was a brief moment in time when the inclusion and community offered by Thrive lifted me up, however, that has passed. I have made friends with many of my teachers and fellow classmates, and hold them dear to my heart. I do believe sometimes that Thrive's community overpowers a vision of what most hold vinyasa yoga to be. I originally came to Thrive in search of a hot yoga studio upon graduation from college. Thrive's "Hot Yoga" is not what most consider 'hot yoga.' I'm not a bikram girl, just a girl who likes to get in a good sweat session aside from cardio. This is warm, not hot. If you are someone who is looking to leave with sweat-stained clothes, this class is not it. Upon my relocation and experimentation with other studios, I have realized how essential true hot yoga is for my mental well-being, and how Thrive did not serve that purpose for me. I came to class because I liked my teachers as humans. I liked what they shared with the world, and I developed a personal interest and investment in their lives, dreams, and presence. After a year or so of being a member, classes became more difficult to attend. Some of my reasoning was personal, yes, but not all of it. I felt like I was not progressing. I felt like I was not consistently challenged, or encouraged to challenge myself. I felt like I was coming to class so as not to disappoint my teachers. I felt bored. For disclosure, much of my review is an expression of self-awareness. It's important to acknowledge that we all are different, and show up on our mats to practice our personal definitions of what yoga is. For some that's love. For some it's a workout. For some, it's an escape. If community is the number one thing you look for in a yoga studio, Thrive is your place. Much beyond that, you may feel stagnant with life changes and personal growth. I've been wanting to try yoga for a few years now. This place is very nice. It's exactly what I imagined a yoga spot to be. Very zen like. The warm hatha is great. The instructors that I've had so far so good. The classes can get crowded! I got the new student package so I have made a point to go at least once per week. The price is reasonable. The only thing that I don't like is the crowding in the tight hallway when class is over. You have to fight your way thru a crowd to get to your coat and shoes. I didn't take any stars off for that but I wish they had a waiting area so people weren't standing outside the door in a huge crowd when our class lets out. read more

I really really love Thrive. I've gone to classes off and on at Thrive for about six months (where I briefly attended classes at Stroga -- another great studio!) I got a Living Social for the first month, which got me hooked. Each of the teachers have a different style, but all of them work to deepen knowledge from a physical and spiritual standpoint. I've never once had a class that was exactly like the previous class. Unfortunately my schedule does not love Thrive quite as much as I do. Without sunrise classes where I could do a morning session and still be able to shower or classes that start around 8:30 p.m., it's tough for me to make it. To be fair, I don't think anyone really wants to end their yoga session at 10 p.m. except for late workers like me. Their unlimited monthly is also a little pricey for me, but that's probably just because I can't attend class every day. If I could make it to a yoga class once a day, or even 4 times a week, the cost would be worth it. Overall, I recommend Thrive to anyone who is looking for a warm inviting atmosphere. Every Yoga studio has a unique style and practice, as does every aspiring yogi. Thrive Yoga emphasizes learning the basics of Yoga practice, breath and proper alignment. It has excellent fundamentals and beginners classes, with enough intermediate classes to be challenging. The teachers are both spiritual and creative. Thrive Yoga has a regular schedule of interesting workshops from aerial yoga to restorative practice. I go to Down Dog Yoga for a sweat drenching aerobic workout. I go to Thrive for a community involved fundamentals based Yoga experience. I read with dismay some of the negative comments in other reviews. They seemed to me to be from persons simply expecting and wanting a different style of practice. In the Rockville Bethesda area there is a diversity of yoga studios to fit anyone's style of practice or mood for a drop in. Thrive Yoga is a wonderfull "all purpose" community based studio. It has a delightful ambience. They have the broadest range of personality types and styles of teachers that I have encountered. All ages and body types are welcomed. It is a creative, fun, spiritual place to practice. An intro price of unlimited classes for the first month for $50 can't be beat. read more

I came to the Sunday evening chant class led by Hannah. It was amazing! What a lovely voice she has. I'm not sure how many people came out on super bowl night-were we eight, nine? And our voices all together turned an hour into pure bliss. I'm not one to get all "yoga changed my life" but this evening there was a special magic. Thrive Yoga offers lots of different classes throughout the day. I joined after an introduction class. Within one month of joining, Thrive increased their monthly fee by at least 20%. The studio was nice enough to allow me to pay for four months at my originally contracted fee. The instructors are nice and helpful. So why the three stars.... I get the sense that Thrive is highly focused on the training courses. They will close two of the three rooms and cram 12-13 people in a room that should not have more than eight at anytime. I don't want to hit the wall or touch the person next to me when I'm trying to practice yoga. Thrive has outgrown the space and they need to find a larger studio. I miss the classes but I felt like I wasn't able to get my money's worth for the classes and times that I needed. I was very disappointed, I really wanted to get into yoga and Thrive is conveniently located. read more

Thrive yoga seems to cover a wide range of classes to accomodate folks like myself who are trying to go back to Yoga after a long break or who are new to the practice by offering Hatha Yoga and hour long community classes. I started their monthly trial last week and it has been a great experience so far. I had a minor glitch while signing up for sessions yet the staff has been very accommodating, efficient and helpful in sorting things out. The scheduling and the duration of the community classes are great for people who only have the lunch hours available during the weekdays. I could go on and on about how AMAZING Thrive Yoga is and how great their teachers are - but this review is specifically for the 200 hr Teacher Training program. When looking for a yoga teacher training program in the DC/MD/VA area, most of your options are in DC. Luckily, Thrive is conveniently located in Rockville - much better for a MD resident like myself, and still not too far for the DC/VA crowd. I've wanted to enroll in a teacher training program for a few years now and carefully researched my options. I have a few friends who completed their training at Thrive and the reviews were all the same - everyone who trains at Thrive LOVES their experience, and bonus: they turn out to be an incredible teacher. The training at Thrive is intimate - there are 15 students in my class. We all get plenty of one-on-one time, our questions are answered, and our voices are heard. I've been in the training for just a few months now and it's really cool to see how your peers are growing and developing in their practice. Due to the small class size, you also get to know the teacher trainers pretty well. I have so much respect for all of our trainers. They each have the ability to lead the class while keeping a conversational tone and allowing room for questions and deep exploration of topics. I feel that the curriculum is well balanced - plenty of practice, yoga philosophy, history, Sanskrit, anatomy, sequencing, teaching tools and methodology, and much more. The aspect that I appreciate and want to highlight the most is the amount of practice teaching we get to do. We practice teach every single class. This is part of what drew me to Thrive's program in the first place. You can read as many books as you want, and sit in a million lectures, but until you actually stand in front of a group of people and teach, you won't know what it's like. At a Thrive teacher training, you are practice teaching from day one. After just 4 training weekends, I already feel more confident in my ability to lead a class, and I see that confidence reflected in my peers as well. If you have ever thought about becoming a yoga teacher, I highly recommend taking the next step and joining the next teacher training at Thrive Yoga. THRIVE YOGA!!! I was looking for an alternative mode of exercise when I heard about this place from a friend. Up until then, "exercise," for me, was made up in large part of pumping iron at the gym. As one might imagine, such exercise can quickly turn into monotony. Monotony into a kind of dread. Chest and triceps. Back and biceps. Legs... and everything in between. Oh, and cardio, too? Whenever I'm pumping iron I try to push through it though. To stay fit and clear the mind. Relieve tension and stress, all that. Healthy body, healthy mind, they say. Exercise should be fun though, right? That's why I was pleasantly surprised when I showed up to my first class at Thrive Yoga. And soon after that, my second. Before I knew it I had signed up for their month-long all-the-classes-you-can-attend intro series, and went to as many classes as I could. I was staying fit and clearing the mind. Relieving tension and stress, all that, just like at the gym, except here I was actually having fun doing it, dread-free. Cruising through the month with their easy-to-use mobile app made choosing and attending classes so easy, too. From descriptions of the difficulty and nature of each class to which room such classes were held, everything I had to know was right in the palm of my hand. Getting a gist of these things was really easy to do on-the-fly. To sign up for a class all I had to do was open the app, perform a couple quick swipes and taps on my phone, choose a class that interested me, and then show up to class. Nothing to it. I could even sign up for a class using the mobile app and on the very same day be able to attend. A major perk for me, especially on those days when unplanned schedule shifting ran amok. All of the amazing instructors here have so much to offer and really make it all happen. I had the chance to drop in to four different instructors' classes here, and each of them really knew their stuff. More importantly though, each of them really knew how to teach their stuff, in ways that were always easy to understand and then try myself. Their attentiveness to each and every student throughout the entire class could be felt from start to finish. For some poses a spoken word description from the instructor worked just fine for me. For others I needed visual representation to make sense of what was going on. The instructors here seemed to have a sixth sense when it came to these things, and would offer either verbal or visual cues as well as countless other kinds of cues as appropriate at just the right time to keep things going at a good pace. I really enjoyed Sarah Wimsatt's beginner/intermediate vinyasa flow and vinyasa + core classes, which were heart-pumping and rejuvenating and which helped me reconnect with my body in ways that I was once familiar. A common trait of all the classes I went to though was that each made exercise actually fun and exciting to do, and was that which kept me guessing the whole way through. All of the instructors and staff here are very approachable, accommodating, and kind. The student body as I observed it during my one-month trial series was diverse, both in physical fitness and age. The studio itself has a comfortable atmosphere which is beautifully designed and of a size that is cozy and intimate. It's also very clean and felt very "home-y". All of their amenities, like private changing rooms, shoe cubbies, and the like were generally readily accessible and available, making visits very convenient and easy to work in to my schedule. I get a little anxious when it comes to doing certain things sometimes, especially when it comes to trying brand new things, sometimes, and so as one might imagine I was a little anxious when I came to my first class here. All of that soon took a back seat as I felt these things literally melt away, class after class. I would generally recommend this fine establishment to those looking to change up or supplement their exercise routine, or to those who haven't been physically active for some time and would like to ease (back) into it. I would also recommend this place to those who might be interested in yoga but who have yet to try, and who are looking to dip their toes into its aether. To boot, the whole process of getting the one-month trial series started and jumping in was simple to begin and easy to keep up with, it was almost as if it happened all by itself. Having just come to the end of my one-month series, I miss the unique and refreshing type of exercise yoga has to offer, complete with all its unique and refreshing benefits. As I couldn't have imagined, such exercise quickly turned into joy. Joy into a kind of wonder. Four-legged table. Planche. Downward-facing dog... I wasn't sure if I was going to survive some of the classes I went to, but I pushed through. To stay fit and clear the mind. Relieve tension and stress, all that. I love this place! I am so fortunate to have found a gem near where i live. All the teachers that I've met has so far has been so accommodating and approachable. The yogis seems pleasant too. I like how there are ample and big windows at the practice rooms. I signed up for the $49 unlimited for a month on my first day of trying out the place. That's how confident and comfortable I was of the place. There is alot of parking, which is conveniently located in the Sunshine square. You can easily grab Crisp and Juicy, Duck Donuts or Ledos after class. I hope nothing changes in here. They have a variety of classes to try out, same with workshops. I like how there is alot of sensible places to store your stuff, not to mention shoe racks. Thank you for making the place look clean too! I cannot think of one single con. read more
