I was told by the beautician & owner, she cannot do "kinky hair". I'm visiting the west coast on business, I needed only a trim cut, she lifted my hair and said she could do the trim, but not style my curly, kinky hair. She asked questions about how I manage my hair... (a licensed professional stylist?) However, after her 7-10min clip of my ends, I was charged $60.00, and I tipped her availability of my walk-in service. Professionals have never charged that much, not even $30.00. I've never really been able to shape my eyebrows and have never been happy with them. I've always just plucked to try to keep it clean but they were always slightly uneven. Plus my skin is too sensitive for waxing, so when my cousin recommended threading I wanted to try it. Since this is the place that her and her friend goes to go and their eyebrows done. Coming from Elk Grove, this is quite the drive for me. But I decided to make the trek to try it. My first time there was a pleasant one. I was in and out in a about five minutes and the results were amazing. She not only shaped my eyebrows, but cleaned up the the area around my forehead and face and trimmed them. I swear they have never looked so good!! Definitely recommend this place for anyone that wants to try the threading. I've never needed an appointment and have always just walked right in with no problems. I come back every few weeks to get touched up and she always does a great job. This place is off the hook. I go there to get my eyebrows threaded and always leave with a huge smile and a pair of great looking eyebrows. They are friendly and courteous. Eyebrow threading is 10 bucks which I find very fair (don't forget to tip!). I find that waxing is more painful and less precise so I've been doing this since 1994 (started in NY). I recently needed a trim as well and they had some time so I got the eyebrows done and then a haircut. They did a great job and what I wanted. The place is very pretty too. Parking is a bit of a hassle because it's on the same strip as the DMV but so worth it. This review is for the threading service. My brows came out uneven. As she was threading my left brow, I could actually feel some hair on my right brow getting pinched when they shouldn't have been. End result: my right brow is thicker and slightly longer than my left. I will not be back, and I recommend you go somewhere else for threading--I don't want anybody else having the same bad experience especially for something that defines the face. read more

I have been going to this salon to get my eyebrows done- because I love the threading AND waxing. Also a great deal of $10 . BUT what pissed me off is the hours are listed that they opened at 9AM . I have been multiple times and waited until 9:20AM -9:30AM for someone to finally show up. I'm willing to come all the way from Roseville BUT need to drive BACK to Roseville by 10AM. I've been going to Ravi for over a year now. I go once every 3 weeks religiously for wax/thread. She's the only person who has offered to wax AND thread for $10. She has tamed my eyebrows and several occasions, and will really take her time to look and make sure they're twins, not sisters. She's available by both appointment and walk-in. I never write yelp reviews, but I had to take time from my day to say do not come here to get your hair done. I just tried them out yesterday while my boyfriend was getting his hair cut at a barber shop down the street. I didn't get the woman who worked on my hair's name because she didn't even bother to introduce herself to me. First off, they will not bleach hair. Even if your color job requires it. They tried to take my hair from dark brown to red without bleaching, and now I have red roots where my growth was and dark brown everywhere else. Second, they don't actually know how to cut hair. She hacked away at it, using thinning shears at my scalp! I know for a fact you are supposed to only use them an inch away from the hair at the very least! Also, my "straight across heavy bangs" I asked for are neither. She parted them unevenly, which made one side much heavier than the other. She also cut one side longer than the other. I asked her several times to correct this error, but she acted like she didn't know what I was talking about and didn't bother to do anything about it. This hair was not worth the 120 they charged me. Also, my boyfriend pointed out afterwards that he noticed they have none of their licenses posted for the public to see. The only positive thing was they offered me free water and soda constantly, and they also offered my boyfriend some while he waited for me to finish. read more

If you need threading, try Thunder. I've recently moved here from LA, where you can find a threadist or a threading salon on every corner. Here it's way more difficult. They are few and far between and pricier. (I'm thinking it's the lack of competition). I've been here a couple of times, and the experience was good both times. I really like the location since it's close to my house! I've been a walk in both times, once there wasn't a wait and the second time I had to come back in a couple hours. Crappy service and horrible hair!!! I went in for a perm and a trim. I got the female stylist there. She knew the perm didn't turn out (the whole top half of my hair was still stick straight) but she didn't say a word and still charged me full price and sent me on my way. She tried to cover it up by LOADING my hair with gunk (4 different types of product). When I got home and rinsed all the crap outta my hair I saw that my hair was still straight on top. I immediately called her and she admitted over the phone that she noticed the perm didn't turn out. WELL IF SHE KNEW IT DIDN'T TURN OUT, WHY IN THE HECK DIDN'T SHE SAY ANYTHING??? WHY DID SHE LOAD MY HAIR WITH PRODUCT AND STILL CHARGE ME FULL PRICE??? WHY DID SHE LET ME LEAVE WITHOUT OFFERING A DISCOUNT OR A REDO OR SOMETHING??? To add insult to injury, her "trim" was awful! My hair wouldn't do a thing. I was in tears. My hair was curly on the bottom and flat on the top and cut so it wouldn't do anything but hang there. I went in the next morning to demand my money back. She wasn't there but the male stylist was (he actually fixed my cut somewhat). He called her to come in and refund my money. When she got there, she refused to give me my money back. She said she didn't do all that work for free. She just wanted me to make another appointment so she could "fix" it. Heck no! She's not touching my hair again and I'll never step foot in there again! My daughter and I came here tonight, on a whim...we were in the mood for a change. We both got our eyebrows done (free! since we were new customers), our hair shampooed/cut/styled. I also got my upper lip waxed. Both the people we dealt with (the owners) were super friendly & professional. Both knew their craft & were fast & precise. Prices for hair cuts were reasonable, and eyebrows SUPER reasonable (even when not on special). I am SUPER picky about how my hair is cut because it grows slowly, plus it is coarse & wavy. I have NO qualms about going back to Thunder Salon for haircuts, or facial hair removal. I felt VERY comfortable in their shop, not at all rushed, and felt I got more than my money's worth for the time they spent styling my hair. It was my first time ever having my hair straight ironed & it was crazy how different it made my hair look & feel! I came in the next morning only to find out that she was charging me 20% more than what I heard from yesterday. I hoped that at least my bangs would turn out alright, but nope. Duh. DON'T advertise something you don't have the manpower to handle. The lady who threaded my eyebrows was fairly average, did not do a horrible job, but not spectacular either. Went here to get an eyebrow wax and lip wax. The lady was nice enough, and the sign outside said the first eyebrow wax was free. I learned after going in though, that it is only free for customers in Folsom (I live in Orangevale). I still decided to get it done anyway, but I wish I hadn't. She waxed first and then threaded. I have gotten waxing done before, but this was very painful. I came out with a lot of red everywhere. I have a sensitive face but I have never had this bad of a reaction. If there was an option for zero stars this would be the time to use it. I was searching for a local salon and had high hopes with the few reviews on Yelp. The woman who started to work on my hair definitely was not into pleasantries and did not introduce herself. I explained my concern for the last coloring flaw I experienced at another salon and reiterated the importance of matching the color of my roots. The final color was even worse than the last which I didn't know was possible. In the middle of my appointment she up and left to go home without any mention to me. The woman who took over I'm guessing was the owner wasn't a communicator either. I wish I had asked for their pricing beforehand instead of getting sticker shock at the end. They charge the same price for touching up roots as high end salons except they lack in service and ability to color match. I went there to get eyebrow and upper lip threading done. The lady said the eyebrow will be free for new Folsom customers. The first time I was there, I only got the upper lip done (which is a whopping $10! C'mon woman!) I asked if I get the eyebrow done next time I come, will I be considered a first timer since I didn't need it that time - and she said yes. I come next week and again to confirm, I ask, will the eyebrow be free for the first time and she said (she responds as if she is not even interested in what you are saying, almost cutting you before you finish), yes. So I went ahead and got both eyebrow and upper lip done. Then she tells me that I am not a new customer and charges me $20!!! I told here I had asked twice and she had agreed, what kind of business is this? She just lost a customer right there and hence the review. I generally don't write reviews, but she rubbed me the wrong way. She is ok with threading/waxing, not too great. If you don't mind not-so-trustworthy people and shelling huge cash out of your pocket, you can visit her. Now I know why it's always empty..ain't going back there no matter what! read more

I was calling around trying to find someone to give me an a-line haircut and Thunder Hair Salon assured me their head stylist could do this for me. After two minutes in his chair I knew I wasn't going to be happy with this haircut and unfortunately i was right. He hacked away at my hair in a way I've never seen just snipping here and there sporadically, and using a razor in the back. I left with what I call a bob not an a-line cut at all. Also, I made sure to tell him that my hair is a lot heavier on one side and requested that he thin it out, he said he would, but he didn't. All this from the master stylist, mind you. Apparently for your first visit you get your eyebrows done for free, so I did that as well. She did a nice job shaping my brows, but waxed the whole thing with only two strips. My sensitive skin was bright pink for the entire day, I wish she would have done it in smaller sections. All in all I would not go back there, for the price it was definitely not worth it! read more

I had my arms waxed here in April 2012 while visiting family. The women were very nice, however the back room where the waxing took place was filthy. I should've paid more attention to the dirty wax pot, in which I realized after, that she was double dipping into!! She used the same wooden applicator throughout the whole process. It is absolutely a violation of at least a handful of health codes and can spread all kinds of bacteria, infection and yes, disease. DO NOT get waxed here. THE BEST place to go to get your eyebrows threaded. I have never loved my brows as much as I do now that I go here. I haven't ever waited more than 10 mins either, and always walk in. My eyebrows are always perfect and full -just how I like them! The owners are both incredibly nice and welcoming. Prices are great too.. Only $10 leaving plenty of room for a good tip. This was by far the worst salon I have ever been to! I asked them to cut 2 inches off of my hair and they cut 6. They cut my hair in one giant block instead of cutting it in small sections. I had to go to super cuts after for them to fix it. I also had my eyebrows threaded and I nearly cried at how bad they were. One side had been cut in half and the other side looked like she hadn't touched it. I would not recommend this place to anyone!
