I saw every doctor they referred, followed every treatment, took all the prescriptions and suffered deeply while they let my health decline. Instead of recommending leave from work, they said "[take this drug] and try not to get pulled over going to work because [it's illegal to drive while taking it]". I also work with heavy machinery. This clinic seemed well organized and efficient at first. I started going here in 2016. After being acquired by Summit group (jan 2018) it has steadily gone downhill. Long waits for appointments. Long waits in the office. But if you cancel an appointment, they send you a nasty letter threatening to drop you as a patient if you do it again. I called to make an appointment and they asked me what was wrong. I told them i just wasn't feel good and wanted to talk to the doctor about my BP. The young lady was condescending, and spoke to me like i was stupid. She proceeded to tell me i wasn't due for an appointment for another 3 months. I told her i realized this but i wanted to see the doctor. She informed me there were no appointments available. I hung up. Assholes! I went to Costco Pharmacy this morning to fill my BP med. It was called to the doctor on the 26th. Today is the 31st! No response from the doctor, no BP med. No phone call from the office. Nothing! I wasn't really crazy about Dr. TUNG anyway. She's not a good litener, she is always rushing you out and she too seemed very condescending. Now I'm shit out of luck! No BP meds. So much for the hippocratic oath...... I'm really disappointed. At this point I'd probably give it zero stars if I could, but that is not possible. I've been going there for a couple of years, and have kept going there because once established with a PCP it is so hard to break away and do the whole "new patient" thing again, but that time has come. I will NEVER go back there again. Today I had yet another extremely unpleasant experience with their staff (scheduling, front desk) and really cannot believe how rude and unprofessional they can be. The person on the phone scheduling (essentially the first person you speak to when starting the process of becoming or continuing as a patient) was so rude and outrageous that I really could not believe it. For goodness sakes, I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield, have never had an unpaid balance, and have never caused any problems. I really don't understand why they would be allowed to act that way, even under any circumstances. In addition, let me also echo the remarks of others that the front staff openly speak about patients at the front desk, say rude remarks, and carry an air of being "superior" and are quite frankly obnoxious. I have had them completely ignore me while at the desk as they continue gossiping about this that or the other... Honestly, however, I think it really is too bad... the doctors seem ok, but their staff is just so HORRIBLE I refuse to put up with it any longer. More than anything though, I cannot understand why the doctors continue to allow such horrible behavior (are you listening Dr Warfield?). Your staff nees a MAJOR OVERHAUL, as they are literally taking money right out of your pocket. Take my advice, DO NOT GO HERE!!! read more

Did not have a good experience both times I visited, felt rush during my last visit as if I was there to get a prescription. Billing process is a joke, I was never asked to pay or that I owed anything. Yet I was sent a bill months later with late fees and questionable charges. I don't understand why a physician would treat a patient so badly but, after almost 20 years of going to Thunderbird Internal Medicine after about 4 years, this doctor is not nice. The front office, schedulers and lab do a good job but the office management and doctor is so rude that after almost 20 years I am looking for a new office. I have been a patient at Thunderbird Internal Medicine for over 25 years. Unfortunately, the service and level of professionalism has gone way down and I can no longer tell friends I recommend them without a doubt. For the most part, front office is a conglomeration of young, self-centered girls who find no problem talking about personal topics for the entire waiting area to hear. Even my doctor has become somewhat dismissive and condescending. I will say that appointment times are pretty much as scheduled, but several appointments may be required to get to the root of a basic problem. May be due to the current state of insurance, but still very annoying. I also was also told I was good to leave with all that I needed to help diagnose my issue only to find out I was not given everything once I got home. Also, when called back because my issue was getting worse and I developed a fever I was told to go to the emergency room. Really? Funny this is, I did go to the ER and they asked why I just didn't go to my doctor. Thanks medical profession!! It's nice to see that you are just as messed up as corporate America. read more

I was very concerned about my recent onset of very high blood pressure, which was even causing headaches. When I called, the woman responding offered me an appt. time about 45 minutes out. I (incorrectly as it turned out) thought they were also concerned. I told her I'd get there as quickly as I could, but it most likely would not be in time. She told me they allowed 15 minutes leeway. By the time my Uber driver got me there I was 18 minutes late. No joy - they would not see me. It didn't matter to them that it was costing me over $40.00 for the trip there and home. I insisted on having my BP taken, and on the second try the nurse was satisfied that it was low enough for me to leave. I left my record of past readings and almost a week later had a call suggesting that I make an appt. I have seen Drs. Johnson and Taber at this location and have been pleased with them both over the last 4 years, but I won't be returning. read more

This clinic falls under Summit Medical Group which is absolutely terrible. When I first moved to AZ I made an appointment and requested a female doctor. It took me months to get a new patient appointment. I made the appointment at a clinic that was far away from my home because the day I had off the doctor was at a different location. Only come to find out after I see her that she has permanently moved to that location. I stuck it out since I don't go very often. However, it became impossible to get anyone on the phone or to make an appointment. The last straw was when I asked for a copy of all labs ever conducted with the doctor and they only sent me 1 page. I called Summit and asked to switch to a female at the Thunderbird location. Again after waiting months the doctor left the clinic before I could see her. I finally gave in and requested a specific male doctor. I had to wait 3 months, but took the appointment. I got a call weeks before my appointment that the doctor decided to change his schedule and I'd have to wait another couple months because he didn't have the professional courtesy to at least honor the appointments already made. I wasted months waiting for that appointment when I could have been finding another doctor. I finally threw in the towel with this practice. I was able to get a new patient appointment at another medical group the same month. If you actually want to ever see a doctor, go somewhere else! read more

My husband was referred to Dr Johnson by our primary care physician. He didn't take note that we live an hour away and wanted my husband to drop every he had been told about his condition and go to only his therapy group. Is there a kick back? I don't know. He scoffed at some of things my husband was telling him about what his condition prevented him from doing. He did not seem caring and when leaving my husband wanted to ask more questions and the medical assistant said she had another patient and she didn't have time to. Such terrible service. I expressed my issue with the billing office and they said the issue had never been addressed in the 6 months since the appointment. We ended up having to pay the office the bill as they referred it to a collection service. I really don't think you should have to pay for a consultation with a doctor you don't like or you think provides substandard medical care. read more

Dr. H is a crook that only wants your money. They will bill you $200 for a basic visit that takes 5 minutes and will bill you to read a piece of paper. If that isn't enough, they will neglect your time sensitive paperwork. read more

Called for another appointment the other day...went in was told that they don't accept my insurance anymore and should not have come in for the blood test a few weeks ago! I had a good doctor here who left, then was assigned a new doctor who was horrible, who then left. Then I was told to pick a new doctor and i had to have a new patient appt with her which took forever. I had many instances where I called for an emergency appointment for Migraine or flu and I couldn't get an appointment within a couple of days. Currently their phones and website are down. People at the front desk are rude and incompetent. I set an appointment a month in advance for 7am but a week before I looked online and it said my appointment was at 9am. I had already scheduled other appointments right after that so that messed up my whole day. The lady at the counter said that there was nothing I could do and there was no way to know who was wrong. I absolutely recommend that you look elsewhere for your medical needs. My experience with Thunderbird Internal Medicine has been horrible, to say the least. As a new patient, I wasn't bothered that I had to wait three months for my first appointment, although I was suffering from a severe sinus infection, chronic sinusitis, and bronchitis. I was grateful to be scheduled with one of the PAs, who was able to see me within two days. Upon arriving for my appointment (with completed paperwork and insurance), I was treated nicely by the initial receptionist, but when asked about my "In Case of Emergency" person (although this was clearly spelled out on the paperwork), they made me explain THREE times that this person was my spouse, apparently because we are of the same sex. After rolling her eyes, she told me that she "didn't like the word spouse because gay people can't be married to each other." What??? The revelation that I am gay must have either horrified or amused two other receptionists at the desk as they started pointing and giggling and then one of them looked at me, glared/smirked and remarked, "Oh, you're one of those..." It was one of the most blatantly unprofessional and intentionally demeaning experiences I have EVER had in a professional office. But I chose to go forward with my appointment as I was simply so sick. The nurse that called me back into my appointment was one of the rudest people I've ever dealt with in a medical office. Once she called my name, I approached her and said, "Hello, how are you?" Her response was, "You're here to see the doctor, not make new friends." Again, WHAT???? Her manner in dealing with me while taking my vitals was cold, detached, and gave me the impression that she really felt bothered by having to do her job. At the end of my appointment, after waiting 20 minutes for paperwork, this same nurse walked to the frame of the door, said nothing, and then literally threw a folder of papers toward me, scattering the paperwork all over the floor, which I had to pick up. The PA did spend a nice amount of time with me, but her only remedy was to write out a handful of prescriptions after nodding her head and typing into a laptop throughout the entire appointment. Fine. But when I asked specifically about side effects, she told me to "not to worry." Three days after starting the prescribed antibiotic, I experienced a number of severe side effects, including uncontrollable muscle spasms, severe kidney pain, body tremors, and joint pain. I stopped taking the meds and called Thunderbird IM as soon as the symptoms began, literally begging to get into ANY doctor who could see me. I was put on hold for nearly 20 minutes, only to be told that there was nothing they could do. When I pleaded again, I was curtly told that "if I was that concerned, I shouldn't have taken the medication I was given," and "rather than whining about getting in to the doctor, I should go to the emergency room." Mind you, I have outstanding insurance, so this wasn't a case of money and billing. I was shocked as the receptionist then simply hung up on me. I have since found a new doctor who is outstanding and very caring. I have NEVER been treated so unprofessionally and rudely with any doctor's office I've attended in four decades. Thunderbird IM is a "factory" medical office and I sincerely recommend, for your health's sake, to look elsewhere for your medical treatment. read more

So, I recently just got medical insurance. I have blue cross shield of Arizona and decided to finally get a PCP. However, I feel like Dr. tung doesn't really care for her patients she is very blunt and won't listen to the patient. I went to the office sick one day and she wanted me to take over the counter drugs instead of helping me out. She didn't have answers to my questions and it was always brief short visit. Not only that she doesn't work with you but each visit they were billing my insurance atleast a minimum of $400 that is ridiculous! Especially when the medical doctor is supposed to care for you. Well Dr. Tung just lost a patient. I will not return I don't recommend you to get Dr.tung as a PCP. Doctors now a days are in it for the money, not the patients health read more

Dr. Joel Metelits is the kindest, smartest, wittiest doctor we've ever seen in a cumulative 125 years. He also spends entire half hours, even hours with patients, (Therefore he's usually running late.) We simply take our knitting (metaphorically) when we go, for the privilege of seeing this extraordinary man. My husband and I have discussed this and agreed that we'd take a bullet for him. Reading others reviews, I suppose it depends on who you see at this clinic. I LOVE Dr. Chen Yang, Dr. Szabo and her assistant Kelly. Last year, I thought I pulled a muscle and went to Urgent Care to get it checked out (worst mistake of my life) one week goes by and my pain increased to the point where I couldn't walk. I was able to get a last minute same day appointment with Dr. Szabo & Kelly right before they closed.. she determined that I possibly have a DVT and sent me right over for an ultrasound. She and Dr. Chen Yang waited past their closing time for the ultrasound to be done on my leg which came back positive for a very large DVT. They immediately addressed the problem and guided me in the process of what would happen and what I needed to do. Which was unfortunately going to the hospital because it was such a large clot that they were concerned that it would break off and travel to my lungs. I'm so grateful for those three individuals. :) read more

I see Dr. Carpenter, however needed help with my prescription from Annette, one of the Directors. She personally called my Heath Insurance company and since I was on a third party call with her couldn't believe how long she stayed on the phone to resolve my problem. The entire staff has always been helpful and caring. When making my appts. I leave my phone number and they call me back usually within 10-15 minutes and never rush me on the phone. The Dr.'s when I've needed several of them have always listened to what I think is happening, check it out and have always diagnosed correctly and found the solution to my problem including my arm pain and calling for a biopsy that diagnosed my what it was from my symptoms. I recommend this facility to my family and friends and am happy and will continue my healthcare at this office. Dr. Carpenter is a very caring Doctor. read more

The office staff at Thunderbird Internal Medicine were very nice and polite to me and my husband. It is great that they have their own lab staffed with nice people, their own ultra sound department and chest xray machine. Everything is computerized and efficient. The first time I saw Dr. David Warfield he was nice and I liked him. The second visit he was rude and scornful because I was concerned about a potassium of 5.9. He said it was "a slight elevation." I have third stage kidney disease and a second degree heart block. A high potassium is dangerous for people with heart disease. I was an RN in an acute care hospital for 25 years and I KNOW 5.9 is a cautionary lab value. I recently started having high blood pressure issues and high blood glucose readings. He refused to look at my record of blood pressures and blood sugars. He said on the first visit he was going to "monitor blood pressures and blood glucose". How is he going to monitor it if he won't read it and won't discuss it? He kept saying "you are fine" over and over again. After being sarcastic and scornful he said "I want to do a breast exam", and called his tech to stand in the room while he performed it. He had already given me a requisition for a mammogram. I think the breast exam was just to point out who was the "alpha person" in our transaction. I felt very disrespected and insulted and I think he is a vindictive and spiteful person. Maybe he was angry because my appointment was at 7:45 a.m. and he wanted to sleep in. I am 79 years old and a geriatric patient should not have to squabble with a doctor in order to take care of her health issues. The office is wonderful and I will certainly go back but definitely to a different doctor. Avoid Dr. David Warfield. read more

I was here two years ago and they were great. Called back today and had a very hard time getting the receptionist to understand that though my Primary doctor is not at TIM, I am a patient of their dermatologist. Wow! I won't go back there! I deal with enough stupid people on a daily basis, I do not need to add their front office staff to my list of irritations. The Dr. are decent, but no thanks!!! There are plenty of other Dr. at least for now. I'll move on and find one with staff that have a brain and some personality. read more

If you are under retirement age, this medical office isn't for you. The staff are efficient, but the office is not accommodating to younger people and younger families. The appointments are time consuming and as you're checking out they want you right back on their schedule in 3 or at most 6 months. However, if you miss 3 appointments (not consecutive, not in a year, but 3 period) without giving a 24 or 48 hour notice (can't remember which) you're dropped as a patient and left trying to find a new Dr. and trying to fill your prescriptions. When you have children, especially children with their own medical issues like we do, things come up (sometimes at the last second) and it isn't always possible to give advanced notice. So yes, they dropped me as a patient. They kept my husband though, lol. I think they just try and squeeze as many appointments in as possible because there are always a lot of patients in their office. They do get you back into an exam room fairly quickly, it's just the waiting in the exam room and the rest of the appointment that takes a while. They're pretty thorough, but they seem to serve mainly geriatric patients. The Dr. and nurses try to maintain a personal relationship, but the office policy is in complete contrast to their medical care, it seems counterintuitive and all business. read more
