Another great visit with friendly employees, clean store, excellent product and we were lucky enough to have a BOGO coupon. That's a great lunch to anticipate on a drizzly day. Mr R had a flight to catch and we debated him getting half a large sandwich through security (eye roll) and whether he was going to make things more dicey by wanting something with mayonnaise. Got him a small Austin Club and I ordered a large of my beloved beef & avocado on wheat all the way. He added black olives and cucumbers to his, I threw in jalapeño chips for him and we split a bottle of lemonade soda. The aforementioned coupon basically made his sandwich--excluding add-ons--free so $15 fed two adults the freshest fast food sandwiches in town (I ate the second half of mine for dinner) and we were not feeling weighed down at all. Just absolutely satisfied. In fact, he only had the rest of that big muffin from The Groove to get him through his flight/dinner hour/drive and he was thoroughly comfortable. Even texted me thanks for feeding him so well that he wasn't tempted by airport pizza. Running errands and wanted something different so hubby found this Thundercloud Subs. He is not a big cold sub person but he was being a sweetheart and went there for me. Well now he is glad he did. He ordered the Club on wheat and added bacon. He loved it! He also ordered the side salad which is a decent size for a side salad. I ordered the NY Italian with sweet peppers and their signature sauce. It was so good! The sweet peppers and sauce set it off. It was a good amount of meat on the sandwich and not a lot of lettuce. This place has really grown on me. Typically I don't like restaurants which don't have cold subs only, but this place had OUTSTANDING service. The guy went as far as asking us what we planned for our day. It goes a long way when you have a busy life! I truly recommend the blt, maybe add some avocado and it would be more great! We ordered a large and a small chicken salad sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes and we got a sandwich with chicken salad AND American Classic meats. My favorite local restaurant when you want fast food. Super friendly staff. I've been going there for years and they've never screwed up my order. The food is fresh. Personally, I really like the Thundersauce, but I only recommend it if you like oil and vinegar dressings on your sandwich. There are plenty of options to choose from and they typically have a daily sandwich special. Thundercloud never disappoints! Personal favorite... The Office Favorite. My Husband and I are visiting from Cali, we wanted some lunch but weren't craving any fast food.. he stumbled across this place and we decided to give it a shot! Wish I would of took a picture of our sandwiches but we scarfed them down so fast because they were sooo yummy! We had great customer service, we were greeted quickly and they explained everything to us since it was our first time trying it. I always tip $5 or more because the staff is so friendly, they honestly make my day every single time I come in! Besides their amazing subs and great prices, the staff makes this place what it is. We had not had a sub from one of these in at least twenty years, so we were very pleased to have it again as were driving through town. The flavors did not disappoint! Mine and my wife's subs were both every bit as delicious as hoped for. How we wish there was a location in Houston! The young lady who made our sandwiches for Sunday lunch was extremely friendly and professional. They had Diet Dr. Pepper in the soda fountain--hooray! The one glaring problem with the visit was a large amount of black slime present in the ice machine chute. It is definitely something that the health dept will mark against them on future visit. I'm sure the device will be cleaned soon and all will be well. It is a common problem in the industry. As good as the food is, I can't understand how there are more than 20,000 USA locations of their biggest competitor and so few Thunderclouds. read more

I love thundercloud but Matt was incredibly unhelpful today and is making me reconsider ever coming back . Ordered a tuna and a turkey sandwich, went to the window and my card declined because I used the wrong one. Matt said "Not to be rude, but do you have money?". It blew my mind that anyone would ever say this to a customer. We changed cards, paid and left. Drove 15 minutes home and opened the sandwich to find two turkey instead of one tuna. Drove all the way back and asked for it to be remade. This sweet girl remade it and I asked for it to be refunded since I wasted gas money driving back. Matt was then brought back and refused a refund. He said it was either a sandwich was remade or a refund was given. I explained that I was happy to give them back the old sandwich for a refund and he asked for it back (which is bizarre because it's just going to get thrown away) and he then refused a refund again. Awful customer service, I hope management takes serious consideration at hiring him as his fellow employees were great but he was the rudest employee I've ever met. Very disappointing. I ordered online. Arrived at the time is was supposed to be ready. Was told it was not ready yet. Waited twelve minutes. Watched five people get their orders made on the spot and leave. Another person walked in for a pickup order and it was given right to her. This place is overpriced for the scale of Sandwich served. I ordered a Turkish delight the spreads are what make the sandwich . That said there should be an amount suitable but it was spread like mayonnaise or mustard would be ...very thin on both the hummus and avocado. just nothing to write home about. I also had the corn and green chili soup. so: small Turkish delight and a soup $10.15 I don't believe I will return . Austin has really good thunder clouds but San Marcos location needs to step it up. read more

Great new location! This is the nicest Thundercloud I've been to, apparently they just opened this location. My Daughter and I eat at there location on Lake Austin Blvd once a week, only because I had to implement a rule that we can only eat there once a week, otherwise she would eat there every day!
