We enjoyed the karaoke experience but sadly we didn't know the DJ's name as he never introduced himself to the crowd or explained how it worked to put in a song (he has little slips of paper on a small table and you give him your slip with your name, artist and song title when you are ready to sing). When I saw my son's bowl I realized how long it has been since I had the dish and regretted that I hadn't also ordered one. But when I opened my Hibachi Shrimp I was happy. It was also a dish I hadn't ordered in quite some time. It was plentiful with enough food for two people. My only disappointment was that it was served with clear, rather than miso soup, The packing was perfect. It was delivered hot and perfectly kept in place in the delivery containers. Every roll fell apart upon picking up. Part of the problem is that there's very little rice in some parts, so it's just nori (seaweed) holding it together. Needless to say, they collapse. The fish tastes just alright. We were one of three customers sitting down so it wasn't busy. We still were somehow ignored by our server. Our server would walk away mid-sentence before I could finish asking for something. It took the entire meal to get water refills. But while I sat there, I watched her serve others, chat with regulars, and even tell one that she'd just given him some fresh drinks. She continued cleaning her bar but never once acknowledged me. Not even a "Hi" or "I'll be right with you." Then she poured herself a Red Bull into her personal cup, walked right past me, and struck up a friendly conversation with the man next to me -- loud and casual -- asking if he was "golfing this weekend." That made it clear: she wasn't going to serve me. As a BLACK veteran, that moment hit hard. This bar, with all its patriotic décor, made it clear that their version of "supporting the troops" doesn't include people like me. In a town full of karaoke shows and karaoke rooms, this one finds itself at the low end of the spectrum. Having seen him host at numerous bars around the Hampton Roads area I would rate his sound a 3.5/5 as he will randomly bump the bass up on slow songs drowning out singers, showmanship I'd give a 3/5 as he will call people by the wrong names and and doesn't have much hosting flair, I'd give him a 2/5 for singing rotation as he lacks the digital list that most hosts have transitioned to over the last decade that lets singers know when they are up, and the most egregious hosting sin, he will cherry-pick his list to get his locals and friends can sing more or leave once they have gotten to sing multiple times to others 1 time or even none. Over all his town shows are a 2.8. I cannot speak to private events but would assume the would be better as the playlist and rotation are generally controlled by those that are paying for the Show.

Gary set up 2 hours before his scheduled start time to make sure his equipment fully operational prior to the arrival of the first guest. Based on the average age of the attendees, I doubted there would be too much interest in the karaoke aspect. I was wrong, Gary was able to entice many to show off their singing skills. The guests didn't want the party to end, so Gary agreed to stay an additional hour. It was a great experience, and wouldn't hesitate to use Gary for any function. Highly recommend him.
