Well visiting the area for a end of summer mid week stay and wanted a bit of food and drink and found The Calypso. Our food was very good. My club on sourdough was really good and the nachos with added brisket were OMG great. Again all the food was really good. We had a few drinks from the bar and my old-fashion was right on point. As for the location: it appeared clean and well kept. Even the ladies room. We sat on the patio area, over looking the beach. Great View. As for staff: very friendly, served us well. So I do recommend this place in the area. I hope they take are of you as well as they took care of us.

No words. Just pictures. Kidnap me so I can come back please I'm begging!! They have complimentary valet parking too!! Cha Ching! I tipped my valet guy tho, cause duh, we don't work for free around here. It was superrr busy and our service was slow but food was so good. It did take us like 45 min to get our food........ and 20 min just to get the check........ can't fault anyone, it was a Saturday evening Thanks Calypso! You were delicious.

Went late night and the servers were great but the food seemed like it was rushed and sloppy. My chicken sandwich was soggy on the bottom and was messy. Fries were a little cold as well.

Love love love! I'm a sucker for a good patio bar and this one is it! I stopped in 3 nights in a row, and each server was great, attentive and very friendly. Phenomenal happy hour menu. I love the coconut tequila cocktail :)

My boyfriend and I came to Calypso as it was a 2 minute walk from our hotel. We hoped for a quick and delicious meal, but our experience fell short. My first complaint is Calypso's many different entrances. We entered through the side closest to the street and were not greeted by anyone, even though there were two people standing behind a desk. We saw a sign saying the hosts were at a different entrance, but could not find this entrance for about 5 minutes. Finally, we asked a waitress where the host table was, and she said "it's in the back", which really did not help much. Eventually we found it and were seated. About 10 minutes later our waitress came. She informed us that they were out of sodas, pineapple juice, and that they could not boil anything, so boiled shrimp, veggies, and other items were off the table. She was nice, however, after we placed our order, we did not see her until she brought us our bill. A food runner brought us our food and our waitress never asked us how we were doing or anything. My boyfriend finished his water within a few minutes of receiving his food, but was never given a refill. As for the food, I ordered the fried shrimp tacos which I liked. It comes with two tacos and a side. Unfortunately each taco only came with two shrimp, so I was slightly disappointed. My boyfriend ordered a burger, but said it was average and plain. The restaurant has a nice view of the ocean, a live band, and a bar. The band played a lot of classic songs, which made the experience slightly better. Lastly, the prices were not bad, except for the automatic 18% gratuity, which I feel enables below average service. This gratuity is for every table, no matter the amount of people in the party. Overall, not a great experience. Would not recommend this place if you are looking to eat under an hour and a half.

Stopped in here during my bachelorette weekend after a stroll on the boardwalk. We put our name down on the waitlist but prior to be called, seats cleared at the bar which is where we stayed. The bartender was prompt with our food and drink orders & gave me a couple of free shots which was very nice. The patrons were also very sweet and a couple bought some rounds for my girlfriends and I. The place was very lively and got very busy throughout our time there. Great destination for a light bite or drinks with friends!

One of our favorite places in Virginia Beach. Great vibe, great food, and it's on the boardwalk.

Good food for when you're drunk and want to have a big group eating somewhere. You don't need a reservation but there are some waiting times around 7 to 9 pm on Fri and Sat, but there is a TON of space available in the restaurant. If you are thinking of eating here, I would put in your name as soo n as you can and then take a good walk along the board walk of VA Beach. I ubered here, so I don't know if there is good parking around, but if you park at beach parking and walk around the beach to the restaurant, it is honestly the best thing you could do around this area.

Ask the Community - Calypso Bar & Grill

Do they have happy hour during the weekend?

Yes. Daily at 2pm. Food specials until 7pm and drink specials until 9 pm

How kid friendly (7 year olds) is Calypso Bar and Grill? Do they have a kids menu?

I went on a Saturday evening during Beach Week in April. There were some families there but on the inside and not on the patio. I'd suggest you stay indoors if you have kids as the outside is where the band performed and there were more folks…

The exterior of the venue is undeniably striking, accented by marvelous murals and artistic decor that set an elevated, sophisticated tone before you even step through the doors. Inside, the establishment is impeccably pristine, wonderfully vibrant, and beautifully maintained. Their bar program is remarkable, boasting a serious wine collection and a selection of top-shelf spirits. For my beverage, I opted for the Smoke and Mirrors cocktail, which was expertly crafted, perfectly balanced, and thoroughly impressive. For my main dish, I selected the Fried Oysters a first for me at this particular establishment and though they were outside of the standard Happy Hour menu, they were an absolute culinary triumph! Crisp, extraordinarily fresh, and seasoned to perfection. The highlight of the evening, however, was the impeccable service. My server, Sarah, was an absolute delight gracious, attentive, and without a doubt the finest at the establishment. From the stunning aesthetics and pristine atmosphere to the divine cuisine and Sarah's top-tier hospitality, Atlantic receives absolute full marks from me. A flawless evening I shall most certainly be returning!

Our group ordered some IPA's - Orange Starfish to be exact, and a couple of well drinks. We had the famous Smash Burgers and a a tuna slider. For an appetizer we had ceviche. We love ceviche but this version had really really soft, almost mushy scallops! No one was a fan of mushy scallops so we ate around them! We're not sure if this is how their scallops always are served, of if we just got a mushy order. Overall the food and service was great and we will be back!

Food: This is where I was disappointed. Happy we went during happy hour because none of the food was worth full price. The chicharrones looked like store bought pork rinds and tasted like it too. The potstickers tasted like the frozen ones you get from the grocery store. The shrimp ceviche was essentially tasteless. BAD: Not much, a little pricey but if you stick to the sandwiches, given it's beach town, the value is reasonable. Other menu items get into the 30s quick and appetizers are steep. Lager Heads was on the agenda from some restaurant research. Iam glad I tried it - the burger felt like a 1/2 pounder, juicy and seasoned, yet still cooked perfect. The fries are seasoned, very crispy and came with the burger which I liked. They had a great line up of burgers, I'd love to try another. The Knockout burger was fantastic, but the Cowboy burger on texas toast sounded great as well. You'll quickly leave the 17 to 20 dollar range if you leave sandwiches, but the service, the portions, and the quality make it worth a treat.
