Well visiting the area for a end of summer mid week stay and wanted a bit of food and drink and found The Calypso. Our food was very good. My club on sourdough was really good and the nachos with added brisket were OMG great. Again all the food was really good. We had a few drinks from the bar and my old-fashion was right on point. As for the location: it appeared clean and well kept. Even the ladies room. We sat on the patio area, over looking the beach. Great View. As for staff: very friendly, served us well. So I do recommend this place in the area. I hope they take are of you as well as they took care of us.

No words. Just pictures. Kidnap me so I can come back please I'm begging!! They have complimentary valet parking too!! Cha Ching! I tipped my valet guy tho, cause duh, we don't work for free around here. It was superrr busy and our service was slow but food was so good. It did take us like 45 min to get our food........ and 20 min just to get the check........ can't fault anyone, it was a Saturday evening Thanks Calypso! You were delicious.

Love love love! I'm a sucker for a good patio bar and this one is it! I stopped in 3 nights in a row, and each server was great, attentive and very friendly. Phenomenal happy hour menu. I love the coconut tequila cocktail :)

My boyfriend and I came to Calypso as it was a 2 minute walk from our hotel. We hoped for a quick and delicious meal, but our experience fell short. My first complaint is Calypso's many different entrances. We entered through the side closest to the street and were not greeted by anyone, even though there were two people standing behind a desk. We saw a sign saying the hosts were at a different entrance, but could not find this entrance for about 5 minutes. Finally, we asked a waitress where the host table was, and she said "it's in the back", which really did not help much. Eventually we found it and were seated. About 10 minutes later our waitress came. She informed us that they were out of sodas, pineapple juice, and that they could not boil anything, so boiled shrimp, veggies, and other items were off the table. She was nice, however, after we placed our order, we did not see her until she brought us our bill. A food runner brought us our food and our waitress never asked us how we were doing or anything. My boyfriend finished his water within a few minutes of receiving his food, but was never given a refill. As for the food, I ordered the fried shrimp tacos which I liked. It comes with two tacos and a side. Unfortunately each taco only came with two shrimp, so I was slightly disappointed. My boyfriend ordered a burger, but said it was average and plain. The restaurant has a nice view of the ocean, a live band, and a bar. The band played a lot of classic songs, which made the experience slightly better. Lastly, the prices were not bad, except for the automatic 18% gratuity, which I feel enables below average service. This gratuity is for every table, no matter the amount of people in the party. Overall, not a great experience. Would not recommend this place if you are looking to eat under an hour and a half.

One of our favorite places in Virginia Beach. Great vibe, great food, and it's on the boardwalk.

Stopped in here during my bachelorette weekend after a stroll on the boardwalk. We put our name down on the waitlist but prior to be called, seats cleared at the bar which is where we stayed. The bartender was prompt with our food and drink orders & gave me a couple of free shots which was very nice. The patrons were also very sweet and a couple bought some rounds for my girlfriends and I. The place was very lively and got very busy throughout our time there. Great destination for a light bite or drinks with friends!

Good food for when you're drunk and want to have a big group eating somewhere. You don't need a reservation but there are some waiting times around 7 to 9 pm on Fri and Sat, but there is a TON of space available in the restaurant. If you are thinking of eating here, I would put in your name as soo n as you can and then take a good walk along the board walk of VA Beach. I ubered here, so I don't know if there is good parking around, but if you park at beach parking and walk around the beach to the restaurant, it is honestly the best thing you could do around this area.

Yes. Daily at 2pm. Food specials until 7pm and drink specials until 9 pm

How kid friendly (7 year olds) is Calypso Bar and Grill? Do they have a kids menu?

I went on a Saturday evening during Beach Week in April. There were some families there but on the inside and not on the patio. I'd suggest you stay indoors if you have kids as the outside is where the band performed and there were more folks… Read more

She had always wanted to try it, it had a happy hour menu with food and drinks, so why not. We parked, walked the few feet over, got seated outside, and waited. Our waitress, Taya, was an absolute gem. Only 2 months working there and she was in her element for us. It was quite humid outside but it wasnt uncomfortable. The inside though was big and spacious (the big wall of Makers Mark alcohol bottles was quite a site to see). Now onto the food and drinks: For drinks I ordered their Catch 31 Orange Crush (delicious) and they went out of their way to prepare me a Irish Car Bomb (shot of Baileys Irish Cream in a pint of Guinness) the best they could and it worked out beautifully. My wife just had her favorite Blue Moon on tap and she had no complaints. For food we ordered a Buffalo Mac and Cheese (wife), The Mack (me) and coconut shrimp (share). The Mac and cheese my wife had blew her mind. The couple bites I took I could see why. The buffalo chicken on top was melt in your mouth tender and the cheese sauce balanced the spice out nicely. The Mack I had was a double cheeseburger with thousand island dressing, lettuce, onions, tomato, and pickles. I've mentioned the best burger I've ever had came from Smashed RVA but now it has competition in this one. It was fresh, juicy, and the toasted bun made it all come together. So good in fact I ordered a second one to go. Speaking of... The coconut shrimp we shared was so tender and the sweet chili dipping sauce would make your eyes pop out your head. It was spot on cooked, nice golden brown color, and very flavorful. My wife doesn't even like spicy food or coconut even but even she said she loved all of it. We got a second order of the shrimp to take home too. I talked to the manager on duty, named William, and told him my feelings and thanked him for a wonderful experience and meal and that we would definitely be back again. I can't speak for the people who gave this place negative feedback but I can say for my wife and I we had zero issues with the service, staff, and food.

Service was okay but not worth it to risk getting sick. Go somewhere else where they know how to properly handle seafood esp raw bar items.

I also tried to order a French 1605, and while they didn't end up having all the ingredients, the bartender was still completely game to make something off-menu and clearly knew their spirits well. Always appreciate a bartender who actually understands balance and flavor instead of just reading recipes off a card. We also ordered the deviled quail eggs, bulgogi lettuce wraps, and potstickers. Everything was good, though our other table ended up being ready way faster than expected, so we had to take most of it to go. One small PSA: the menu calls them "jumbo" quail eggs, but quail eggs are tiny creatures of nature to begin with, so don't walk in expecting chicken egg-sized deviled eggs.

BAD: Not much, a little pricey but if you stick to the sandwiches, given it's beach town, the value is reasonable. Other menu items get into the 30s quick and appetizers are steep. Lager Heads was on the agenda from some restaurant research. Iam glad I tried it - the burger felt like a 1/2 pounder, juicy and seasoned, yet still cooked perfect. The fries are seasoned, very crispy and came with the burger which I liked. They had a great line up of burgers, I'd love to try another. The Knockout burger was fantastic, but the Cowboy burger on texas toast sounded great as well. You'll quickly leave the 17 to 20 dollar range if you leave sandwiches, but the service, the portions, and the quality make it worth a treat. We'd usually show up in the evening, and it would be sold out! Today we got there around 4, and we were in luck. When we got there, the hostess told us to sit anywhere. It took quite someone for to acknowledge us once we did sit down. Also, the table was dirty despite it being a new set up. The menus were filthy *cringe*. We all ordered the AYCE crab and shrimp. The shrimp was entirely too overcooked - literal mush and unclean. Didn't even seem like they attempted to clean the shrimp before cooking! We didn't get anymore after that first round. The crabs were good although it was weird because some of the legs were completely empty of meat! It'a $50/person, and if you eat 4 clusters or more it's worth the money. The hush puppies were REALLY good, and I don't usually eat them. Our server wasn't bad - she checked on us frequently enough. HOWEVER, her hands were filthy. Her nails were literally black underneath and so was the skin around her nails as well as her hands. It also looked like she had bit all the skin on her hands. I know this is a habit for some for different reasons so this is not shade towards that BUT in food service, handling food this is unacceptable. I am not sure what that was but if it couldn't come off using soap and water, I'd suggest gloves or her doing something else. I'm so glad I didn't notice when we were actually eating and only noticed when we were checking out. I'd go back. While it isn't anything to rant and rave about it killed my craving for crab legs and I got my money worth. Oh FYI There is an automatic gratuity added to all checks. For 3 AYCE and 1 sweet tea, our bill was $200.
