Stopped here because of great reviews. Went to wash my hands in the bathroom and it was swarming with termite looking flies. They were coming out of the ceiling, covering the floor, all over the sink and toilet. One landed on my face and when I went back to the table one flew out of my hair. Out we went. read more

Very negative experience, and will never go back. I will make it a priority to spread the word as to how rudely I was treated. I was completely stunned by the entire scenario, and highly insulted as a repeat, good-paying customer. I always thought they were friendly, and personable staff, but circumstances completely blindsided me. My best friend and I joined my son, who happened to have already been seated and was already eating. We ordered water(what I always drink), and decided to split an order. They didn't bring chips and salsa for us, and we, simply, asked for additional chips and salsa. The owner said we would be charged additionally for the chips. My son had already paid his $20 ticket. Our order totaled $12. The owner stated had we "ordered more" we would have gotten chips and salsa. Point being, had we sat separately from my son, they would have brought our own basket of chips and salsa. But, we were told we'd be charged for any more other than what my son had gotten. I was very offended by this, and obviously, they are not concerned with genuine customer service. read more

I love this place! The staff are so friendly and the food is always wonderful. I used to go here some years ago when they were located in Sylacauga and it was by far my favorite place to eat Mexican. We used to eat here all the time but won't be returning again. The food has always been ok, "typical Mexican." The staff are nice and it's clean. Some months ago they raised their prices and now it's just unreasonable. There's no reason takeout Mexican should cost $30 for 2 people. Lately the food just isn't that good either. The shrimp taste strange and had some peels on it, the beans are tasteless, and the sauces taste canned. The rice has a strange texture, like it's been sitting all day. Just not worth the money when we can get super fresh, flavorful food at Moe's, Chipotle, or even Chuy's for less! read more

I cannot believe there are only 2 reviews at the time I'm writing this one. I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico.... so I know my Mexican food very well. I travel throughout the US and have only found one other Mexican restaurant in the DC area that can compare to Tierra Caliente. The waiting staff is always on their toes, glass half empty - not here!!! Out of chips; never. The food is fresh and GREAT. The place is clean and all the staff is very pleasant and respectful. Only one question - where is the 6 star rating for a 5 star place!!!! read more
