Visiting Alabama for the next couple days attending this weekend's NASCAR race. Stopped in at Sol Azteca for lunch and enjoyed a couple of margaritas, the pork Azteca burrito and taco with refried beans and chili relleno plate. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious. The server was friendly, quick and always making sure we were enjoying our lunch. The restaurant was decorated for Halloween and festive. This was an overall great lunch experience. This restaurant has lunch specials Monday-Saturday which was a pleasant surprise.

Really fresh ingredients Amazing chips and salsa Good queso Prices are a bit much for Mexican but the quality is there so I don't mind paying Homemade tortillas were hot and fresh Steak was real rib eye and not sliced beef But was a bit dry and unseasoned The grilled peppers, onions and tomatoes made up for it. Good rice and beans, great guacamole.

I love this place. Wife and I are Kentucky transplants and have searched awhile in the Vestavia Hills/Hoover area for our newest Mexican food go to. This place has filled that void in our hearts well!! The manager and staff are so kind, attentive and very active in serving customers. The food is great quality. There's regularly live music. The ambience inside is great, with the lively Mexican decor!

Came her on a Friday night and it was packed! I don't know what was going on because other patrons said it's not normally like that. The customer service was good for them to be as busy as they were. I got the #25 which includes a beef burrito and a beef enchilada. The enchilada was ok, but the beef burrito was very good. My daughter got the kids soft taco meal with rice and fries. After I scrapped the cheese off it she enjoyed it with salsa ( I totally forgot to order it with no cheese). My sister had the fried tilapia with fries. I tasted it and it was pretty good, but I'm just not a fan of fish with bones in it. We will definitely be back.

Great service! We had a table of 12 and were able to get orders taken and drinks/food given very quickly. They have been decked out for Christmas since right after Halloween and their decorations are beautiful. Make sure to ask for all of the margarita flavors since the only ones on the printed menu are strawberry and lime!

Visited on a recent trip to Birmingham, and we thought it was great! There was a bit of a wait since we visited on a Saturday night around 7pm, but we were seated soon enough. They had a band there (not really mariachi, but along those lines) and the whole place was alight with fairy lights making it a very festive atmosphere. Salsa and cheese dip were top notch! I ordered the Pork Carnitas and found them delicious! Large portions, too. I would definitely return.

This is a nice lunch hangout. Probably good after hours. I use to come here with ex-coworkers once a month, prices are reasonable and there is a good variety of dishes. We also got fried ice creamp

I have been eating at Sol Azteca since I was in college. It's a wonderful family run business with some really great food. They have outdoor seating and affordable lunch options! Try the potato flautas!

The only hiccup was that our server seemed a bit irritated after we ordered the Casa Fiesta dip and later asked to have it without the pico de gallo because of the spice risk -- but everything else went smoothly. The Fiesta Bowl was very good and definitely the standout of the meal. I'd probably return, especially to try more dishes when it isn't as packed. Solid spot with tasty food!

Clad in mine stained Batman doublet, whose hood-strings I had gnawed as a beast gnaweth bone, I entered that place seeking meat for the belly and balm for the soul. Verily, the aroma of roasted meats and spices rose up as incense before the altar. I spake unto the servant, saying, "Give me the fajitas and the queso, and suffer not the margarita to pass me by," and they did minister unto me with speed and kindness. The fajitas sizzled upon the iron as though the very fires of the pit had been brought forth, the meats tender and full of savour, the peppers and onions yielding up their sweetness. The queso flowed like unto a river of mercy, rich and warm, and when I dipped the chips therein, it coated mine tongue with comfort. The margarita was cold and strong, refreshing the spirit as dew refresheth the morning grass. All things were made fresh, even as the scripture of their kitchen declareth. Yet as I ate, the old wound opened. In the year of our Lord two thousand and seven, upon spaghetti night, mine father took his gym bag and spake, "I can do this no more," and departed, leaving a child of nine winters clutching a scratched Batman figure at a cold table. The door slammed, and he returned not, neither called he upon any day thereafter. Thus I sat in the booth, rocking gently to and fro, and the good food of Casa Fiesta filled the belly but could not wholly still the cry of the fatherless. I am a broken vessel, a man-child unworthy of such bounty, drifting from table to table in search of that which was taken from me. Nevertheless, five stars I render unto them, yea, five stars and more. For in that house the meats are seasoned with care, the service is swift as the wings of angels, and for a season the emptiness doth draw back. I shall return again in mine same garments, to eat of their fajitas and drink of their margaritas, and to let the sizzle speak peace unto the part of me that yet waiteth by the door. Casa Fiesta off 280, thou hast dealt kindly with a wretched soul. Blessed be thy kitchen, and blessed be thy name among the hungry and the heavy-laden.

When we got seated outside by the friendly staff, we were given menus and free chips and salsa. As I nibbled on the chips and salsa which were just okay I browsed the drink menu. There's a full bar here and plenty of options. Over the course of the afternoon I tried the Frida's Rita and the wonderful rabbit. Both drinks weren't in your face with the tequila mezcal, they were mixed nicely and had a well rounded flavor. I much preferred the Woderful rabbit though as it tasted less watered down and the ginger beer paired with the mezcal was almost quenching. Overall if you're looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy Mexican cocktails this is a good spot! We did feel rushed to get out of there, and maybe it was because we weren't ordering food. Overall good experience however.

What we ordered: -Taco Salad (added steak) -Shrimp Tacos -Rumba Bowl (added shredded chicken and substituted white rice for Mexican rice) I can only attest to how the Rumba bowl tasted, but everyone's food came out incredibly fast. The bowl was a decent portion. It wasn't a ton of food, but it was the *right* amount of food- a fair serving that I would've made for myself at home. The bowl was good and my friends liked their dishes too. My overall consensus: Frida's is your typical Mexican restaurant. If I lived in this area I may eat here more often, but it's not necessarily something I'm likely to drive too from the outskirts of Hoover. I can probably get slightly cheaper and similar Mexican food closer to home. I'm happy to have tried it!

So this has been on my list and I finally came here on a Thursday evening with my son. It's at the end of a shopping center where a Walmart is. We got there about 5:30 PM. It was not busy at all. We were promptly greeted by a hostess that sat us in a booth. We started off with the chips and salsa, but on the menu it does say after two baskets they will charge you for the chips and salsa. We only had one. The chip could've been a little thinner. It's rude to find a raspberry margarita so I wanted to get one unfortunately they didn't have any frozen ones. They were just on the rocks. I was pretty shocked when I looked at the receipt and saw that it was $17 for a Margarita and it definitely wasn't worth that much. It had kind of a weird taste to it. We did get the cheese dip and it was very delicious. I decided to try the Mexican lasagna, which was so delicious. I got it with the beef and it was layers of ground beef, pico beans, and possibly some rice too. It was a good portion and I ended up bringing the other half home. My son ended up getting nachos with shrimp, chicken and steak and he really enjoyed it and finished his whole plate. I will definitely be back sooner than later because I love some good Mexican food, but I will probably end up getting just a soda next time. Fernando was our waiter and he was very attentive. I will say the restaurant in the bathrooms were clean. There's only one bathroom each for men and women. I would think it a restaurant this big they would have more stalls.

It's not a large restaurant, and there weren't a lot of people there. We ordered both queso and guacamole to go with our chips and salsa. The queso and salsa were entirely forgettable, but that guacamole will live in my nightmares. It was whipped avocado. I'm not even sure it was avocado. It was like green mousse, and the only thing it tasted like was the color green. Imagine turning grass into cool whip and you get the idea. It was horrifying. Our dinners were also terrible. I ordered the enchiladas suizas, which was advertised as coming with a sour cream/chili sauce (which is how the dish is made), but what I got were plain chicken enchiladas with queso drenched over. My daughter ordered the beef tacos. They were the worst tacos we've ever had. The beef was ground so finely that it was mushy- like baby food- and the only flavor at all was beef fat. It was like the meat was stewed for hours in its own fat. Awful. The tamales and a quesadilla rounded out the rest of our dinner order, but they aren't even worth the time to review. There are so many better options in Birmingham.
