This place is still the best of the best and you can always tell for so many years that it is by all people because it is never empty. Very cut and dry basic Mexican American standard fare. We had a place like this growing up in Tuscaloosa it was called La Fiesta as well. Sometimes you need a vintage place where the chips and salsa are free and the bland queso makes the gringos go wild. Service was good, food came out hot and fresh not enough spice for me. My husband and I have gone to most of the normal Mexican restaurants around our house and usually the food is pretty good, nothing spectacular, nothing to write home about, so we judge pretty much based on the service and the drinks. My husband got the blackberry margarita, which he really enjoyed, and I got a skinny and then a jalapeño margarita, which were also pretty tasty. Now the restaurant was pretty crowded, which was to be expected on a Friday night, but we had never seen so many young families with young children. It makes the vibe very lively and the servers were still very much on the ball, if not a little rushed. Their house hot sauce though, was quite yummy! It had a nice kick but also had good flavor. La Fiesta Restaurant is not what I would call the most authentic Mexican restaurant. I don't mean this as a slight, just stating a fact. I also want to say that an old school Mexican restaurant is often a welcome respite and a blast of nostalgia. The menu features the usual assortment of items that you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. Again, this is not a bad thing. These items are beloved items and the customers want these items. La Fiesta Restaurant offers a relatively well executed version of Mexican food and the service was friendly, professional and overall only enhanced the dining experience. The burritos are a good option to go with and something that I would definitely recommend. All in all, I will give La Fiesta Restaurant four stars. read more

Honestly disappointed to say that after being a 15+ year customer of La Fiesta, I can't go back anymore. The service has steadily declined over the years. The owner is always rude whenever I speak to him. A month ago when I went the server kept pressing for me to order "tequila" which made me extremely uncomfortable. Last night when we went, there were many open booths in the main room and we had to wait for a table next to a loud party of 20 in the left room where we couldn't even hear each other speak. Went to La Fiesta for lunch on a suggestion of a friend who gave us a gift certificate. Upon first entering, was hit with a damp musty smell. The atmosphere was typical Mexican restaurant decor. Was seated promptly and brought the usual, "chips and salsa". The salsa was more of a "taco sauce". There was no visible onion, tomatoes, cilantro or jalapeños. It was very thin and watery. The chips were room temp and partially stale. The staff was attentive and nice. They brought our drinks and took our order quickly. The food came out within 10 mins. I ordered the lunch fajitas- steak. They were hot and fresh. The steak was under seasoned and slightly chewy. Inions and tomatoes had a good taste. Rice and refried beans were...typical rice and beans. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't to write home about. It was a typical American style Mexican restaurant that uses the same food vendor as every other Mexican restaurant. They make you feel like you just walked into your grandma's house (best comparison I could think of, lol). I sat at the bar and I was promptly greeted and supplied with a warm chips and mouthwatering salsa dip. La Fiesta translates to Party and yes you can definitely have a party at La Fiesta! They are located off Hwy 31 set in the corner of a strip mall between the old Outback and Mr Chens in Hoover. You can't see them from Hwy 31 driving by so you'll have to turn into the parking lot of Mr Chens. The interior is ornately decorated with Christmas lights dangling from the ceiling. The style and colors inside reminds me of an adobe hut except with tvs and a bar. It's comfortable with booths and tables but on a crowded night it may feel a little claustrophobic. As most will attest, they did not thoroughly think through the building plans when they were designing the waiting area which is basically non existent. They do have a couple of benches to sit outside the front door, but last Friday night was below freezing outside! Yes plan on waiting some when you want to dine here on a Friday night. It is very popular and they have a loyal base of regulars. We had a party of 5 and waited about 20 minutes. Their staff is incredibly efficient and they stepped it up on this busy night. We had our chips and salsa arriving at our table as we were sitting down. Our server immediately took our drink orders and we were chowing down on the chips. Their salsa is simple but boy did it have some heat. Our cheese dip arrived in about 90 seconds. Our entrees took a little longer, but we had our second round chips and salsa to pad our appetite. Matthew's Enchilada Supreme came with a healthy portion of shredded lettuce, sour cream, fresh diced tomatoes and 4 enchiladas: beef, chicken, bean and cheese. He reported to me they were all good and he cleaned his plate. 5 stars he said. Rachel tried the Enchilada Verdes. It also comes with a small plate of shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes and 3 large enchiladas topped with a delicious verdes sauce. She also liked her meal. Tammy and Sarah shared a steak fajita meal. It arrived in a typical fashion, sizzling on the hot plate... aromatic smells wafting through the air! It was a large portion of steak, bell peppers, tomatoes and onions. I snuck a piece or two of the steak which was tender and nicely seasoned. I wanted something atypical. I asked if he could make me Shrimp Chimichangas. He said absolutely! You can't tell from the photo but it was buried under the lettuce and tomatoes. It was packed and I mean packed with large shrimp. Nicely seasoned and tasted delicious! I also had a small cup of sour cream and guacamole. The guac was fresh, smooth and oh so good. My husband and I love La Fiesta! The quality of food for the price always surprises me. I've gotten both the chicken quesadillas and the chicken enchiladas. Nestled in behind the old Outback, not the easiest place to find and not visible from the main road. Cool, similar vibe as many of the local Mexican restaurants have. Seated quickly and drink orders are taken. In a matter of minutes warm chips and moderately spicy salsa are delivered to the table along with your drink. Ordered with all rice (no beans) and again in a matter of minutes the food was delivered. Food quality: Exceptionally warm and fresh produce (lettuce and tomatoes). Chimichanga was fried to golden perfection. They couldn't have cooked it any better. Really not a drop of grease on it anywhere. Rice was nothing special with a very plain flavor. I really think that if you are looking for a Mexican restaurant that isn't spicy this is the place for you, as long as you avoid the salsa they bring to the table. La Fiesta is very conveniently located for anyone in the Hoover/Vestavia area. It's right smack in the middle of Hwy 31 in Hoover, so it's super easy to get to, no matter which direction your coming from. This is important, because La Fiesta fits into my "hard to tell one from the other" Mexican joints. That's not a bad thing, By the way. The service is fantastic and the food is more than tolerable. Again, fitting right into my "hard to tell on from the other" category. If anything sets La Fiesta apart, it would be the spicy salsa, multiple large TVs, and the margaritas that don't taste "pre-produced." It appeared as though all of the regulars were asking for a guy named "Philippe" to be there server. So that's my advice to you... ask for "Philippe." Really good Mexican food! I had the camarones a la diabla. It lived up to its name. It was super hot! It had great flavor too. I would be hard pressed not to get this again when I return. I will definitely be back here. I had a medium sized Margarita which was good but not great. I couldn't get over the feeling that they used some sort of powdery mix and it was not mixed well enough so the drink was a little disappointing.
