This farm stand has some of the best seasonal produce in the county in my opinion. Their carrots are crazy good - so sweet, crunchy and flavorful. I currently munch on at least one a day and will be sad when they go out of season. I have also recently enjoyed their winter squash, kale, tomatoes and orange cauliflower. In addition to vegetables they also sell pantry goods like dried beans, pepper sauces, eggs, bread and tortillas. I think the tortillas are a must-buy when they are available, they are delicious and come in a variety of unusual colors. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and have some cute dogs that are sometimes around. read more

We called Wayne and we had a vey specific quest. It actually was a request he has never heard of and was intrigued since it's dealing with a version of an item he sells. He was so gracious to actual procure our request by picking from his own personal farm. In this day and age of no customer service it was refreshing change to meet someone who is grateful for his customers and willing to help in any way. We will be back. See ya at the farm! read more

Tierra Farm Stand offers some of the best vegetables I have ever tasted. They sometimes have crops of carrots that are gigantic, though I am not sure what kind they are. They are so sweet and crunchy, nothing like what you would find in a conventional grocery store. Their offerings are somewhat seasonal, making frequent visits worth your time in order to see what they have. You know what you are getting is fresh and grown right there. When you eat their produce you can truly taste and feel the difference. They have an incredible offering of tomatoes in late summer and also sell various herbs and spices. The atmosphere is extremely laid back and serene. The location is a little tricky to turn into, as it is located right off of a street where cars get on and off the freeway. But it is worth it, and you will enjoy this cute little spot. If you travel through Sonoma County, they are worth a stop-off. They often have big flats of some of the best strawberries I have ever tasted, too. They do tend to focus more on vegetables than fruits, which is normal since they are growing everything themselves and tropical fruits are not something growing in northern California. So don't expect to find things like pineapple or mangoes. What you buy is what they grow and harvest on their farm, so do expect to find excellent kale, celery, broccoli and more. In the fall they have incredible squash, and they also sell things like various kinds of potatoes, garlic, onion, and beans, if you are interested in cooking up some kind of vegetable stew. This would be your one-stop shop. I can't think of anything negative to say about this farm stand. I am just grateful that they are in business and hope you like your visit as much as I did. read more

A small, yet large in quantity of produce stand, right off the freeway! I've been driving by the sign on the side of the freeway for well over two or three years and always tell myself that I will stop by. Thankfully I had enough time to stop by and experience this wonderful vegetable stand with a few extras as well. Do not think you will just stumble upon your average run of the mill vegetable stands, as Tierra offers various other items (Hot sauce, sauerkraut, kimchi, eggs, etc.) Pros: -Easy on and off from freeway -Ample parking -Large quantity and quality of produce Cons: (Not many!) -Dirt parking lot, stay away clean car drivers -Some items are a tad over priced -Can get busy on certain days All and all, the negatives come nowhere close to outweighing the positives, so do not bash me too hard. Do yourself a favor and stop by and experience this charming stand. read more

We're not fans of this place at all. We went there about a little over a year ago looking for a local place to get our veggies from on a regular basis. There were no cars or customers the day and time we went. No one was there but an older woman who, we assume, worked for the place. We walked around the outdoor selections, and then went inside. The woman saw us walking around and looking at the food and said not one word to us the whole time. When we didn't see anything we cared to buy and were ignored by the employee (owner?) who didn't even bother to greet us or ask if we had any questions, we decided to leave. On the way to the car the woman then asked if we had any questions. After a blank look I said "no." Haven't been back since and wouldn't recommend it either. read more

frankly, I don't know how this place stays in business. I found the same thing other reviewers have said: lack of direction/instruction on what is for sale and what is not. My mom and I were driving today and saw a huge field of sunflowers and had to stop and take pictures and then realized we were at a veggie stand! Wow! Two great surprises in one. The owner Evie drove up and opened the shop up early for us toe explore. We ended up walking out with fresh veggies up to our ears. Beautiful carrots, tomatoes, brocolli, eggplant, strawberries, salt.....wow! I can't wait to eat it all. It wasn't cheap around 75 dollars or so (but we got ten pounds of eggplant.....) but its amazing the difference that a safeway strawberry tastes againist a local one. read more

We are weekly visitor's to Tierra's farm stand on Airport Blvd. Their produce is fabulous and fairly priced. The difference in quality between what they have and the grocery store is immeasurable- so much flavor. Everything is super tasty and the owners are always friendly and willing to help. They even give kids samples and give tours of the farm to anyone interested. My only warning is to make sure you shuck your corn to check for worms. They are totally sustainable/organic so without pesticides sometimes friends wriggle in there to snack too. It's generally not a big deal, but you really don't want a surprise when you get home. If you are lost on what to try, go for the sweet peppers, strawberries, watermelon, and broccoli. You can't go wrong. read more

How does this place not have more reviews? Their produce is amazing. They grow so many heirloom varieties of beans, corn, peppers, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers -- everything under the sun, really. And they're all amazing. Don't complain about the prices. Most things will be more expensive than Safeway. But they're 1000% tastier. And more interesting and fun to cook with! And grown super locally by a brother and sister duo and their longstanding crew of farmhands. If you want cheap, save your farm stand visits for the central valley where the produce is all just conventionally-grown, Safeway-bound stuff that "fell off the back of a truck" and tastes just like it. read more

I became acquainted with Tierra Vegetables in mid-2008 and over time have become such a fan of their good food. They grow many of the same vegetables as other farms in Sonoma County but go above and beyond the norm when it comes to variety and quality and their peppers, beans, and strawberries are particularly outstanding. I have visited the farm stand for years and recently joined their CSA program so I receive weekly vegetables for a fixed price plus I shop there for other vegetables and dry goods. Beans are a particular highlight at the farm, as Tierra grows, dries, and sells a huge variety of kinds. Tierra also offers several kinds of fresh shell beans at a certain time of the year. Summer is a wonderful time for fresh peppers (sweet, hot, and everything in between) but their homemade salsa (processed and bottled in a commercial kitchen) made from dried peppers is a year round treat. I love buying their salsa, dried beans, and cornmeal as a winter/holiday gift for people in my life. During the summer I live for their fresh strawberries and housemade pickles. If you shop at Tierra you will truly get a good idea about what is in season because everything is grown here in Sonoma County, most of it at the farm adjacent to the farmstand. The people of Tierra Farm really make it special, too. If you visit a few times Evie will remember your name or apologize sincerely if she can't; you will almost always see Wayne and Lee working on various farm projects, and their other staff is friendly and knowledgeable as well. You can count on Evie for recipes and cooking suggestions, funny stories, and a lot of general enthusiasm. Lastly, the new barn is a wonderful place to visit and shop. I liked the old roadside stand but it was a lot less sheltered than the barn, which is actually a very old barn that was rescued from demolition and relocated to the property. While you're there, they encourage you to visit their fields and see how the vegetables grow. My two daughters love prowling the rows of crops or poking at the compost pile and speculating about its contents. They are greeted by name when they visit the farmstand. read more

I've been a subscriber to Tierra's CSA program for two years now, and have nothing but the utmost respect and appreciation for everyone there. They grow the most delicious strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, squashes, etc. I have never been disappointed with anything they've given me. And everyone there is so friendly and helpful! With each item in each bag, they give us a recipe or clue about how to prepare it. I've also been known to stop by the farm stand periodically to pick up extra items for special occasions. read more

I've been going to Tierra for about the last decade. The place is run by a brother and sister duo, Wayne and Lee (and their many dogs and cats!). They always grow a unique variety of vegetables, all organic. Their white barn was originally located at the corner of Mark West Springs Rd and 101, and was rescued from demolition when Sutter bought the land for their hospital. They specialize in peppers, but have all the usual produce and more. Their carrots are absolutely delicious, and you can also find many prepared foods (mainly in the summer) such as pickles, jam, cornmeal, cookies, and more. Highly recommended! read more

The variety this farm grows is amazing. Strawberries, carrots, peppers, corn, popcorn, and so much more. One of the few farms is Sonoma County thay is open year around. They have a year round CSA veggie box as well. They make alot of things from there products as well. Chile Jam, Hot sauce, chile powders and even tortillas. If you need produce that looks picture perfect, and has been thoroughly stripped of any sign that it came from the soil, this is not the place for you. Not a problem? Good! This is what eating local is all about. You get food that's optimized for flavor, not for shelf stability after traveling thousands of miles. Their strawberries or greens, for instance, will probably look like crap after a day in your fridge. They're picked at exactly ripe, which means tomorrow they will be overripe. But that's only a problem if you have tremendous willpower, because they're so fresh and delicious when you buy that it's hard to resist such delicious treats anyway. Some of my other favorites include the squash, enormous sweet red onions, sunchokes, shallots, and fresh-shelled marrow fat beans. (Actually, combine those and toss over a bit of pasta with some olive oil and garlic for one heck of a good meal. Mmm.) Everyone at the farm is friendly, and love to share their passion for growing and cooking good eats. Wayne runs around the farm completely barefoot. He's kind of soft-spoken, but don't take it for shyness. He perks up at any opportunity to show people the fields and answer questions about sustainable farming. Evie, his wife, is usually the one running the stand. She's also in charge of the email list, and can reel off several easy ways to prepare anything they sell if you're in need of help in that department. She knows all the regulars well, and those of us who come around often get a few perks. Trust me, make friends with Evie and she'll take care of you. Lee, Wayne's sister and farm co-owner, is more reserved but never fails to be gracious as well. Be sure to poke around Tierra's website for the mailing list subscription option. You'll get 1-2 emails a week about what's currently in harvest. As far as I can tell, it's the only way to know what the weekly specials are, on whatever's especially abundant. The farm also has chilis, dried bean varieties, and jams pretty much year-round (they close for the winter). At one point last year there was a big jar of homemade pickles. Sometimes there are a few fresh eggs too, plucked from their henhouse in Healdsburg, though American grocery stores have me so well-trained to expect refrigeration for eggs that I haven't had the nerve to tried these. (A friend living in France says markets never refrigerate eggs there, so supposedly it's a cultural hangup rather than a strict need. Still...hard to wrap my head around it.) If you've got several people in the household or can split with someone, check out their CSA subscription as well. read more

Went yesterday for the first time. What a great little place. When I go into a farmstand the first thing I do is look around to see if they sell bananas and pineapples. If they do, then you know it's not really a farmstand, it's a little grocery store out in the country. This is NOT that kind of place -- it's clearly someone selling what they and their neighbors grow. I wanted white beets specifically, and Evvie (spelling?) gathered up four white beets for me taken out of existing "assortment" bunches. Strawberries to die for! Sweet little things that were like eating candy. (Yes they were small. I'm sure if you want strawberries that look like were on steroids any of the chain grocery stores can help you.) Biggest assortment of dried beans (and the bean expertise to with it) that I have ever seen. Clearly dried beans are a focus. We were told to come back -- forgotten when -- maybe August? -- when the dried soup-type beans were available fresh in the shell. Supposed to have a lot more flavor, which make sense. Love going here for the best priced and most flavorful ORGANIC produce. When you arrive they have picked that morning. So fresh! They also have eggs available and a wide assortment of Chili's popcorn beans and other sundries. I grew up eating Albers cornmeal grits as a hot cereal for breakfast. I actually liked them. Hadn't eaten grits in a long time tho' until I discovered Tierra's Heirloom Varieties Dried Hominy Grits. went in with high expectations...left felling a little taken. the lady was nice but took advantage. the tomatoes were as expected as far as seeing grocery store prices(but heard they were less). everything was small and priced high, regardless if it was priced per pound(which in a lot of cases is sneaky). we were checking out and was asked if we wanted strawberry's and was offered a sample...we accepted and they were wonderful and not showing a price for each SMALL container. we said we would take one and after that up sale.. add on.. it was an additional $6 for about 8 ounces of strawberries and except for about 5 medium sized ones on the top..the other were the size of cherry tomatoes.(part of it is my fault for falling in to the neighborly banter) we thought because they were closed for the next two days due to the holiday,there was going to be a consideration for how hard she was pushing them at the register. not showing the price and then springing it on the customer at the end is a big no-no in retail and sales. i will not be going back and i will go back and let them know out of principal.(excuse me for not capitalizing when necessary..but for this it's not worthy). being nice creates like and trust when making a decision and that 75% of making a sale. she did it...and this is what i do for a living but i felt sorry for her with her challenges.(i am happy she is fine and well..god bless her). big disappointment and i live sooooooo close.
