Thanks, Tigerlilie! xoxo Red Hot Annie

So, just two short weeks ago, I chopped off all of my hair. Well...not all of it, but I chopped off over 8 inches! Believe it or not, my hair was actually almost to my waist and just lookin' ratty. I headed over to Tigerlilie Salon to get my hair done. Something a little more stylized that I'd be able to put rollers or curls in and they'd hold. I made the appointment with Amy (who is adorable) and everything went off without a hitch! When I showed up, I felt like I got the royal treatment - Angelica sat me down right away and listened to what I wanted. When I said I really wanted it chopped off, she gave me a look like...are you sure? But, I've been ready for a change for a while, so I was ready to go. She started with a trim to get rid of the majority of the length, and right away I started feeling more control over being able to style my hair...it just seemed thicker and more bouncing. After a quick wash, she finished up the style - all the time with a nice banter and an attentive ear. Tigerlilie is great for ladies, but they do men's haircuts, too. A couple days later, I sent Dick Dijon in for a much needed trim and he came out with an adorable pompadour! YUMMY! I *LOVE* Tigerlilie and would recommend it to anyone who needs a hair-cut, but especially for folks who love stylized or vintage looks. I'm really looking forward to going back, and I'm looking forward to some special event where I can justify big victory rolls or finger waves or some very glamorous styling. They're the best!

Sassy pin up for my holiday party

I found Angelica and Tigerlilie Salon on Yelp looking for a vintage hair salon. She now has a new location on Western just south of the El tracks in Lincoln Square. The major work is done and the salon is a blank slate. I went in looking for something "pin-uppy" and sassy for a holiday party and man, did she deliver! I arrived at my party to non-stop compliments and requests for her cards. I am thoroughly overjoyed with the look she gave me and if I could recommend her any higher, I surely would!

Hair by Cortne... Diggin' those victory rolls!

I scheduled an appointment here recently for an updo. I wanted a vintage look for a Halloween party, as I was sporting the roll of a 1940's housewife. I was lucky enough to have Courtne do my hair. She was really sweet and didn't rush through getting my hair done. I didn't know exactly what I wanted, but I requested a few victory rolls, where were popular during that era. She took the time to make sure that my hair was in place and didn't rush me out the door. I was so pleased with my look and kept getting compliments all night! I would recommend her to anyone needing an updo!

I cannot say enough good things about Lira Hair Salon. I came in after a disastrous visit to a…read moreso‑called "blonde specialist" who completely ruined my hair while trying to take me from brunette to blonde. My hair was damaged, uneven, and honestly I was scared to try again. Lira changed everything. She not only helped me achieve the blonde I originally wanted, but she did it in a way that protected my hair and brought it back to life. My color looks beautiful, natural, and exactly how I envisioned it. Even better--my hair is actually growing back and feeling healthy again. Lira is truly a master of her craft. She listens, she cares, and she knows exactly what she's doing. If you're thinking about going blonde or need someone to fix a color gone wrong, she's the one you want in your corner. Absolutely worth every visit.

First I will start with what was good…read more 1. The dye job ended up beautiful. I came in with pretty unclear instructions and reference photos and both the stylist and the owner were able to figure out what fit my needs. This seems to be a huge strength here. 2. They were able to fit me in last minute. What was bad 1. The total time listed online was 1.45 hours, the service ended up taking 2.45 hours. I have been to many salons and never had my hair take that long, especially when I was getting all over color and a blowout (no haircut). Perhaps this was due to me booking last minute. However, the website booking made it look wide open and I think it is the responsibility of the salon to accurately represent their booking capability. I would not have booked with them had I known what experience was to follow. 2. The salon overall seemed overbooked and people were bouncing around. Three different people worked on my hair. Personally, I really didn't like this set up. I like to build a relationship with my stylist and this hectic atmosphere was not synonymous with that 3. The blowout I had was so uncomfortable. The rollers were tangled up in my hair and I could feel it ripping out as the stylist took them out. I have never have a blowout be so painful. My hair had so many split ends after I looked in the mirror at home. 4. My hair fell the moment I stepped outside. Granted it was a windy day, but my hair doesn't typically fall that fast. I think this may have been due to the stylist rushing at the end. On one hand I'm glad she did because I had been sitting alone for quite some time, but on the other hand I paid for essentially nothing. My old stylist back home (moved cross country) had no problem giving me a blowout that lasted at least a few hours. Even on windy days. 5. At one point the owner took my stylist in the back and seemed to be scolding her. This is never something a new client wants to see. I immediately felt anxious that something had gone wrong with my hair color. It ended up great but tbh experience was awkward and handled strangely in my opinion. 6. Finally. The price came out to $260 for all over color and a blowout. I wouldn't mind this price if it wasn't for the lackluster experience. Hair salons are charging luxury prices without offering luxury experiences. The pricing structure is also strange. They charge $60 extra for toner but I have never had a color job that didn't need toner to look good. It feels strange to not include it all together. The toner charge was added after which was a surprise because toner has always been included in the price. To be clear, the website did ask if I wanted to add toner for $60. I thought that was for someone coming in looking just to tone and not add more color. Perhaps this was my mistake but I found the whole pricing structure strange. A few other things to note: water was offered but never given and they only accept cash/zelle/venmo tips. Overall this salon was not a fit for me. A lot of this is subjective preference but I think it's important that people understand what environment they are paying for when they sign up to spend hundreds. That being said, the color was beautiful and I am grateful for that.

I usually see Emad for my cut, color, and blowout, and he is SO kind and incredibly talented. He's truly the best hairstylist I've ever been to. My blowouts last for days, which is why I always book with him before trips. It saves me from worrying about styling my hair or packing my Dyson. I've also referred several friends, and they are just as obsessed with Emad and the team as I am. Everyone I've encountered at the salon has been so professional and kind. I also wanted to add, in response to a Yelp review mentioned below, that I've personally never encountered a language barrier with any of the staff. But if you do, tools like Google Translate on your phone can make communication easy. You really can't go wrong with this place!

I love the vibrant red color he created and my shorter cut has so much bounce and frames my face perfectly. I'm so happy with the result! I'm thrilled I found my new salon in my new city. Jay is fantastic too. Emad created/mixed the hair color and Jay applied it, and washed my hair and got me ready for the haircut. She is so nice and I really enjoyed our conversation. Beautiful and spacious salon. Welcoming atmosphere and positive vibes.
