This was my second visit to Tijuana Flats my first visit was at a different location and it wasn't the best of experiences but I am so glad I gave them another try. This restaurant experience was exceptional from the time I walked through the door, the staff was very welcoming and the restaurant looked immaculate. After spending a few moments looking over the menu posted at the entrance to the counter I decided on the beef flautas and a few beef tacos, after having the food delivered to my table I quickly realized my eyes were definitely bigger than my appetite was - this was definitely a feast meant for two. Before diving in I made my way to the sauce bar, so many choices, so many choices, so many choices - I decided on hot and extremely hot even though I knew an ice cold beer wouldn't be an option knowing I still had unfinished business to do later in the afternoon (so unfortunate). I appreciated the side of chips that came with both platters but there was no way I was filling up on these when I had such a beautiful selection in front of me - I started with the flautas and they were heavenly, so fresh and hot with the perfect amount of filling and texture, the hot sauce which I can't for the life me remember their names were the perfect pairings. I decided to stop short from finishing them to leave room for the tacos which I ordered "as they come" - seasoned ground beef, cheese, tomatoes, sour cream and onion in a crispy shell all I can say is these were highly pleasing to the senses. I'm so glad I decided to give Tijuana Flats a second try, it's definitely back on the list of "A" list of options when it comes to fast and delicious taco cravings. The staff was very efficient and friendly and I got a courtesy check after my food came out just to make sure everything was to my liking and even an offer to refill my drink - this goes way beyond what fast food customers like myself are accustomed to but I liked it and very much appreciated it. So in case you need to be reminded a restaurant doesn't need to be high end to reward good service or for the employees to earn gratitude - these guys even bus the tables and sanitize between customers, like I said this isn't the typical fast food restaurant so show some appreciation. I do plan on returning but I promise I'll order less food the quality, portions and price all exceeded my expectations... read more

I like that the Taco (crunchy) shells are big, however they are extremely narrow, and there is not much room for ingredients. Seriously, I get ground beef tacos and they have no more than about a tablespoon of beef. The rest is mostly lettuce. Last week I got 2 beef crunchy tacos. Ordered with lettuce, cheese, and Jalapeno. Barely a tablespoon of meat, a few strands of cheddar cheese, filled mostly with lettuce. There were 2 slices of Jalepeno on one Taco, the other had 3. I really think that, for the price, you could make a much better taco. With a fountain drink, and a tip, those two tacos came to over $13. First time at this location and it didn't disappoint. Order at the counter and they bring your food out when it's ready. They have the hot sauce bar with the crazy-named sauces. There's an outside seating area with about 7 tables. My taco salad was great and the edible shell was delicious too. The salad included chips. They clean up your table when you're done. They serve Coke products and have Coke Zero. read more

Steak in my steak taco was seriously undercooked. The guy who took our order was friendly and verified our order before payment, but when they brought the order out part of it was wrong and had to be redone. Nice location, quick service. Went in for a quick lunch after a baseball tournament. The restaurant was pretty clean, including the restroom! That's always a plus. We did takeout last night. I called in our order way in advance but we still ended up waiting for some time. It was incredibly busy for a Thursday evening. I felt the food wasn't as tasty as it was when they first opened. Flautas was generic. Burrito was the same way. You choose a protein and seasoning (blackened or not). Maybe the quality has gone down? Maybe a local can tell me... The hot sauce selection are awesome. Make sure to ask for little travel cups to try the hot sauces. Yay! I was too excited that they opened a Tijuana Flats in Mt. Dora because quality fast food choices are limited! This was my first time ordering from this Tijuana Flats so I called in the order. The young lady on the phone was very helpful and energetic. She answered all my questions about creating your own combos. I love creating sample platters lol She said it would be ready in 15mins so I arrived 20mins later and the manager stated they didn't have my order. We looked at the number I called and I told him I verified that this was the Mt. Dora location across from the Walmart. He was very nice and apologetic! He reassured me that he would make my order quick and offered me a drink while I waited. I ordered from the NEW FLAT OUTRAGEOUS MENU. I ordered 1 Carribean Street Taco(Crispy Jerk Chicken, MoreFire! hot sauce, shaved cilantro cabbage, pineapple salsa, & cotija cheese), 1 Crispy Baja Fish Taco(Cod Fish, chipotle creama, shaved cilantro cabbage, & pineapple salsa), and 1 Lime Steak Street Taco(Grilled garlic/line steak, avocado crema, shaved cilantro cabbage, pico de gallo, Cotija cheese), Churros, and small side of queso. We have gone to TijuanaFlats for years and have always been happy with the product. However in the past year they have decided to make menu changes. You can no longer get enchiladas. They no longer have whole wheat tortillas. They no longer have a low calorie option. The biggest change for the worst is there a new rice which tastes like a mushy instant white rice. It is a shame that a place we frequented sometimes twice a week is no longer a place we feel motivated to patronize. Hopefully someone in charge will come to their senses and quit messing with their menu. read more

The one thing I kept hearing from everyone when we were going to take this trip was "there's no Mexican food in the south" which I wasn't too concerned. I can cook Mexican food. Two weeks into our trip and both of us were hankering for Mexican food and our constant salads needed a rest. Tijuana Flats boasts being around for 25 years so they have it down. I got the chicken tinga tacos and they were good. Huge! One was enough. Not that I didn't power it down a couple hours later. I got the hubby a burrito with chicken on whole wheat tortilla (I like they offer that) with whole beans (they offer refried) and the works! I got him the small 4 oz and when we opened up the box it was huge. Like me he ate have and ate it later. We ordered queso and guac with chips. We enjoyed the guac more than the queso but that's just us. We ended up using the leftover guac and queso on our salad the next night so it didn't go to waste. read more

TIJUANA FLATS: A BEGINNERS COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE This Tijuana flats is like pretty much any other Tijuana flats: delicious, inexpensive, quick, and friendly service. Tuesday's: 2 tacos (you can choose from crunchy or soft & white or whole wheat), chips (free refills if you ask), and a fountain beverage (they have the good, fluffy ice, and one of the best fountain root beers I've had from a restaurant) ALL FOR $5 Thursday's: 1 burrito (and everything else from Thursday is the same) Also, you can request any burrito "wet" with any sauce you want: queso, sour cream, green chile sauce, red chile sauce, etc. and they'll drizzle/drench your burrito in it :) (I think there may be a 99 cent up charge) Chip Dips: highly recommend their queso (they won't offer, but you can also request free refills), the guac is also a good option, super fresh, has bits of fresh jalapeño, the salsa isn't the most flavorful I've had but it's super fresh and pairs nicely, imo, with the crispy salty chips (quac and sales also are free refills upon request) As far as sizing, if it's just you and one other person, I'd get the small and maybe get a refill. If you're sharing with the table I'd definitely go for the large option, it's not that much more expensive (I think small is $2 and large is $3ish) and you get so much more bang for your buck. Hot Sauce Bar: BY A LONG SHOT, the 'Georgia Peach and Vidalia Onion' hot sauce is the best sauce they offer. It's sweet and barely spice but it just makes anything you put it on that much more delicious. Dessert: For dessert, I've only ever ordered the Cookie Dough Floutas from Tijuana flats because there is no way anything else could be more delicious than them. You get like 6-8 of them, piping hot, for like $3. It's plenty to share with a group so go ahead, be the person who orders dessert for the table, you won't regret it. My (vegetarian) order usually looks like: 2 Soft wheat tacos with black beans and everything on them (lettuce, tomato, cheese, jalapeño, onion), root beer, and a side of queso...then I go to the hot sauce bar and fill like 5-6 of those little white cups with the 'Georgia Peach & Vildalia Onion' sauce while I wait for my order read more

Our family loves Tijuana Flats and we've been to at least 6 different locations around the Orlando area. We moved out to Mount Dora and were happy to find this one. TF is pretty consistent everywhere, with the major difference being the various odd décor on the ceilings and walls. What I like best about this location is that they have a nice outdoor area without blaring music. Most locations you can't hear yourself talk, so we really like coming here. This has been my son's and my favorite Mexican restaurant but tonight was horrible. Took over an hour to get 2 dos taco dinners for there. We watched people come in and recieve their food that came way after us. Finally got ours to go when others were getting refunds. Got home and order was screwed up. read more

I finally had the chance to visit our new Tijuana Flats location here in Mt. Dora. I have to say, I am very happy with my visit. I went there for a late lunch today, and the whole restaurant was still pretty busy. I assume it probably will be for some time to come! The wait in line was pretty quick, and a server promptly greeted me at the door and asked if I needed a menu. The cashier serving me was very friendly. Actually, every one of the employees here were all very friendly. Even after I ordered my food to go, I had a kind young man ask me if I wanted a cup of water as I waited - which I thought was very nice. They seem to have a lot of good young people working there. Their hours are incorrect on Yelp, and when you call their number it says "Hello, please stay on the line and we'll be with you shortly." Looking for a snack in the late afternoon, we stopped by Tijuana Flats who had a great rating on Yelp. Being from TX, I judge a restaurant by their salsa and chips. Both were excellent. The fish taco was good, though not excellent. Churros were tasty. As everyone else has noted, the staff here is unbelievable. As we waited in line we were asked if we wanted something to drink. After we sat down and received our meal, the waitstaff continued to stop by to ask if we needed refills on our drinks, and made sure our meal was satisfactory. Initially, I was perturbed that we had to pay $2 for the chips and salsa, but once I tasted it, no more complaints. When we were ready to go, I asked the wait person if there was any way I could get the rest of my salsa and chips in a doggy bag. He brought back a refilled salsa container, and a fresh bag of chips! I couldn't believe this perk! We tipped at the counter when we ordered, but we wanted to make sure he would receive part of the tip. (At least 4 different servers came to our table.) He assured us that at the end of the day they divvy up all the receipts, so don't worry. You can rest assured that next time we will leave a bigger than usual tip. Normally, I like Tijuana Flats, but this location is an exception. No matter what you order, something is gonna be real fishy with the onions, every time I've ordered something here the onions tasted foul, which is weird, you'd think they would get the things from the same supplier as other tijuana flats locations, but this is the only one with real gross onions. Also if you order takeout it's usually pretty slow, so yaknow, show up a little later than you'd think, and check your order yourself. read more
