We've been eating here for years and the food was always consistent until months ago. They kept falling behind and serving inconsistent food due to e-commerce orders getting backed up. The rating for this one is a little tricky. Nothing is ever bad about it, but there's also a lot of stuff that's not really that good. It feels like everything is slower every time you go in there. When I first started going to Tijuana Flats back in the early 2000s, food used to come out so fast. Now it feels like we sit there and kind of stare at each other for an obscene amount of time before our food comes out. Most times I need a refill in my drink before the food comes out. Something has also changed about the food which I can't put my finger on. Before, I used to devour it. Now, though, I'll have one or two bites and not wanna eat the rest. I've purchased food here in the past but never dined in. The ambiance is nice. The music choice in the background was pretty good - my little ones stood up to dance to it. Theres room for improvement with the customer service. Back to the food. I tried to like the dine in experience but the service and food weren't good. The tortillas were kind of hard and the ground beef was more on the cold side. My kids had a tough time biting there food. I had to cut out the hard part. The dessert snacks was pretty good. I'm not sure I'd recommend this place with confidence if someone asked where to eat in the area, nor am I sure I'd eat here again. read more

Tijuana Flats always looks so groovy and alluring anywhere I go and see one. Even more so since I work for DoorDash and constantly pick up orders from the Lakeland location. So coming here was never and if, but a when. I just didn't plan on going to a random one in Sarasota before hitting the Lakeland store. I absolutely love the wacky eccentric way that all Tijuana Flats are decorated. Definitely their trademark and I am all for it. I was specifically really interested in taste testing their sauce station, which literally has probably about 20 different hot sauces to choose from. Right up my alley. I got the burrito bowl and it was decent. Next time I go I want to either try a legitimate burrito or the enchiladas, which are always my top pick for Mexican food. I still enjoyed the bowl but I don't feel I got the full effect. The girl working was absolutely the sweetest person and I wish I had gotten her name because she deserves a shout out for being so friendly and accommodating. Overall, I'd come back to a Tijuana Flats. Not necessarily because it's incredible food, but it's still not bad and the overall experience is quite fun. I'd also recommend the peach hot sauce (yup sounds super weird but I promise you will be amazed)! read more

Poor portions, ordered double protein and had to search for it. (Did not find the blackened chicken and the specs I got were just chicken breast) I asked for no lettuce and got exactly the opposite and even thought I didn't want the cilantro lime rice, I still got it, I would think it would have less bland white rice and a bit more kick of cilantro; I could not even see the cilantro or even taste it. 1 out of 5 do not recommend. read more

The worst quesadilla I've ever had. first of all It was child sized there was about an eighth of an inch of food between the tortillas. It was basically orange colored with a little bit of chicken quesadilla wasn't grilled probably heated in the microwave toppings were minimal. I don't eat at Taco Bell, but most likely I would get something better there. read more

This is my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in the city, the tacos are great, cheese dip is really good, the people are very friendly, bubbly and nice. They have a really cool hot sauce bar that you can pick different hot sauces or your tacos. read more

I asked for a megajuana burrito with steak cheese lettuce and tomato. Only tomato was put in the burrito and barely any meat. I recommend saving your money and going to the location on 41. The standard held at this location is a joke. I ordered the taco special on Tuesday this same week and got a regular steak taco with minimal meat. Wow, where to even start. This place should be shut down immediately. Me and my wife ordered chicken tacos for take out, as we pulled in we saw an employee leaning over a trashcan texting and vaping with a stained/dirty outfit on. On the back of her shirt it said "Trainer". Not a good luck for customers first walking in. After we picked up our food, and arrived home. The tacos were cold along with the chicken inside of them. Later that night, my wife was sicker than a dog with food poisoning. The health department should take a good look at this operation. Seems they have a large turn over of employees that are not properly trained and sure as hell are not properly trained by their "trainer" that appeared to eat this garbage food for breakfast lunch and dinner! Listen. We need a Tijuana Flats on the West Coast. This place is so good! It was recommended to me by a friend, so I had to try it when I was visiting and I was not disappointed. I ordered a bangin' chicken burrito which had bangin' chicken (buffalo chicken), jack cheese, tomatoes, grilled onions, and ranch, wrapped in a grilled flour tortilla. Overall, the chicken was little salty, but the burrito overall was very flavorful. It wasn't too big either, so I could enjoy the chips and salsa without feeling too guilty. The salsa was a bit watery but it had a good bit of heat to it. They have a huge menu selection to choose from and I cant wait to come back and try something new. Forr the price, you can't go wrong. I think I like this place, so four stars it is for now after two visits. Yes, it's a chain, but the food and price are right, and I'm a fan of the hot sauce bar. (Maybe b/c it brings back memories of the hot sauce bar in Key West.) Food is fresh and standard American-Mexican food. The chicken taco and beef taco are good. Both come with rice and beans (black or refried). Their queso is one of my favorites. It's mild, so add some of your favorite sauces for a kick. The hot sauce bar can be overwhelming at first, but they have an easy code of smiley yellow face to painful black face to gauge spiciness. On weekend evenings they may have a band outside playing for the outdoor diners. Your view will be the parking lot of Khol's, so enjoy the funky decor inside if you prefer. You are supposed to order at the counter then take a seat and they'll deliver your food for you, but I watched some seniors come in and sit down expecting table service and the staff obliged without a word. read more

I'm a sucker for a good taco with hot sauce. Therefore, Tijuana Flats will always be a go to for me. I've been here a few times over the last couple of weeks, and each time I've had a pleasant experience. They've always been friendly, have never gotten my order wrong, and have even thrown in chips and salsa for free on occasion. I typically go with the "dos tacos" with blackened chicken, cheese, onions, jalapeños, and one of their fantastic sauces. The tacos are significantly larger than most tacos you'd find anywhere else which is great given that it's also a bit more expensive here than other places in town (roughly $10-11 for two tacos, rice, beans, and a small drink). I personally think that while they're not the best tacos I've had, they're certainly good enough to keep me coming back! The rice and beans could definitely be better however as they come pretty bland, and they're even less appealing if taken to go as they put them in small containers (looks to be significantly less than dining in). My wife and I will continue to come here given how close we live to it, but the food is good enough on its own to keep us coming back. read more

Cool little place nestled in the West Lakewood Ranch area. Walking in I was a little apprehensive about what to expect because we were the only customers to arrive in the middle of lunch time. But we are risk takers. So I ordered the Dos Tacos. Big crispy corn taco shells filled with ground beef, cheeses, black olives, tomatoes, jalapenos and I added guacamole for extra taste with a side of crunchy chips and salsa. My guest ordered the Bang'in Chicken Salad, a big bowl made of whole wheat tortilla shell, filled with greens, grilled onions and green peppers and spiced chicken. They have a sauce bar to try any flavors you please or should I say dare to... I dare to but a few of them... Yikes! Moy Caliente! It was a fun experience and the taste was actual pretty good. If Moe's is average, and average is a 3-Star, you have to give Tijuana Flats a higher rating than that. I've been a Moe's customer for a decade now, but after visiting Tijuana Flats I'll be going here in the future. Tijuana has far more flavor in their products and isn't as bland at Moe's and Chipotle and many other like spots. I'm from Southern California where these kind of places are everywhere. Tijuana Flats is as close to them as it gets in Florida. (And yes, this was my first time eating here.) After seeing a half dozen between Ocala and Venice we decide to give this one a try and thought it was a great spot for lunch. The guacamole and chips tasted homemade rather than the out of the canister stuff we'd tasted at other similar chains. And, the tacos and burritos were superior as well. Better than fast food Texmex; although they have gotten pretty sloppy lately. The two last orders I had were take out mega chimichangas w/2 sides of queso. -They both were lacking on toppings, also had such little sour cream drizzled on top you could hardly tell it was even there. -The lettuce was not edible unless you like warm soggy lettuce. (the hot chimichangas were placed on top of the lettuce in the to-go box, wilting it. see photos taken moments after opening) -Paid $2 for what was supposed to be 2 sides of queso. One queso cup was not quite full the other filled about half way. (again see photos) And I paid the same price for each? It would be nice if they packed the chips separately from the food; they get moist in the same container along with the soggy lettuce. Our orders were picked up on time both times. We always visit Tijuana Flats on University on our visits to Sarasota. We love to eat outside while here. The staff is very friendly. Our food was good although our order was not completely as ordered this time. We were missing the add on Taco I ordered. After being told by the food server that I didn't order it, she did bring one out but it wasn't as I had requested. I had ordered without sour cream or jalapeños and it came with sour cream. I also ordered an early Christmas gift card, but had to ask for the receipt to show the card was activated. So needless to say it wasn't smooth sailing, but we will visit again next time. read more
