This place is found in the back of the shopping center. Started with some guacamole , and it did not disappoint. It's a large portion and it was fresh. My friend and I shared the chicken and steak fajitas, and what a great choice. We liked the thin slices of the meats and vegetables. Lovely hole in the wall right in the center of Westchester does not disappoint! Definitely worth a try with their delicious tacos, freshly made chips, salsa roja and salsa verde, if I'm in the area, I would eat here again. For food my husband tried the Birria tacos and he loved them (5/5) I had the fish and shrimp tacos which came with a side of beans and cilantro rice (which was new for me instead of getting the yellow Mexican rice) and it was delicious! I don't like writing bad reviews, however; I wish I would have been warned of the intolerable smell before going to eat at El Maguey. The food was decent but they have a scented air freshener that is usually reserved for bathrooms that made it Impossible for me to enjoy my meal. The service was great the second we walked through the door! The ladies were all lovely and were so nice to our kids. They have a good kids menu if you have picky kids! I ordered the steak tacos and they were incredibly tasty and perfect. My husband got the Burrito California and he loved it. My dad got the enchilada verde and he was licking the plate. This very small restaurant is located on a very busy shopping center on Bird road... parking during lunch hours is a bit difficult but there are always a few spots open.... for dinner is much easier to park. I came here for a quick lunch... after all.... is Taco tuesday! Had a small Guacamole with chips and a trio of tacos... carnitas, al pastor and borrego. It all comes with rice and beans for like $11.00 The guacamole was very good. Nice and chunky and very flavorful. Tacos also very tasty and it was plentiful for a lunch... maybe next time I will skip the Guac and go straight to tacos or enchiladas. Michelada beer with Modelo was very refreshing and spicy. I think that was like 5 bucks. Overall it is a nice place... inexpensive and yet very comfortable and warming atmosphere. It has a little bar area and a TV for music videos all day long. Rice and beans had absolutely no taste and were also freezing cold AFTER I returned it. Here's the kicker. The service is even worse!! They automatically put the tip on the bill as a "Service Charge" so the server doesn't have any incentive to work. The food here was great. The queso fundido was amazing. I don't even like beans on my nachos, but they were the best beans I have ever had. Despite the great food and service, The restaurant's appearance wasn't at best. The hallway to the bathroom was shady. The bathroom itself is beautiful, despite the towel dispenser being annoying to put up with. Los Magueyes is no longer. Unfortunately it was sold and it is now El Maguey, that of which does not come anywhere close to the greatness that the original Los Magueyes was. We've come to this restaurant quite a few times since it was sold, to give it a chance, but we've given up. The decrease in quality of food is substantial. It's quite sad the new restaurant couldn't sustain itself...we were regulars here. I've spoken to a lot of people in this area who also, like ourselves, used to be loyal customers of Los Magueyes, but they too have completely stopped going because it has changed so much. The steak is tough and gooey, the food very salty but lacking in real flavor, overall just not good. I'd run back to this restaurant if they brought back the way the food used to be. I've never been lucky here. Every time I come, something goes wrong. I always order the same, the Pollo en Mole Verde, and every time there is something wrong with it. Either it is too salty, or it's cold, or it doesn't taste right, or the rice and beans are bad. I can never win. Now, don't think I haven't tried other stuff. Luckily I come here with other people, and luckily I am able to taste other stuff. I have always been like it's OK. But don't ask me about the Pollo en Mole Verde, because we really don't know what we are getting. If you are thinking that I am obsessing about this Pollo en Mole Verde, well, let me tell you that no more than a few restaurants make it. It is kind of hard to get. I guess that since everyone orders burritos and tacos, Mexican restaurants are like "why are we making mole?, let just sell burritos and tacos". So, no more mole for the rest of us... (insert sad face). Anyway, I may still come here one more time. This place is like a desperation shot or something like that. Love this little hole in the wall. Sure, its in a dingy strip mall, and its nothing fancy... but the food is pretty damn good. Their nachos are so legit because there's beans/ cheese and your choice of protein on each chip. Burritos are enormous, and, they always put fresh chips with two salsa's on your table. Its my go to spot for quick and (super) casual mexican food. I'm not saying its THE BEST EVER mexican food. But its a solid option if you're in "the hood". 3.5 stars. Came once with my female partner in crime. Enjoyed mexican food more than I expected. We had lots of it and left stuffed... in a good way. Only negative part: with a belly that full there is so much you can do after lol I kept craving two hours of rest. The owner was there and he is so proud of his business/restaurant, and he should definitely be. From the outside you might not think their food is a big deal but in this case make sure you do not judge that book by its cover. Go in! My girl and I got carne Asada tacos and quesadillas de carne and it came out immediately and soo delicious!! The horchata was amazing and our waitress was so sweet and amazing! I cannot stress how horrible this place was!!! The girl who served us could not even explain anything to us, had a horrible attitude and talked very low. My boyfriend always said thank you for the drinks or food and she never said a word. I ordered a Michelada that we got charged for although I did not drink it because I did not like it and ordered a Margarita. It also seemed like it was a big deal to remove. Which I had to mention to her from across the restaurant and she made me explain it again to a man across the restaurant. The tortilla soup was very watery the floutas was cut in little pieces. Saw this place by chance when walking into the nearby Flannigan's not too long ago and decided to bookmark it for later. Tried it last night with my daughter and my fiancé but none of us were particularly impressed. Service was decent and it was nice to receive complimentary chips with one regular salsa and another super spicy one. According to my better half, the margarita tasted like pure mixer with zero alcohol so that was the first disappointment. I ordered the steak nachos, he ordered a tortilla soup and the steak fajitas, and the little one asked for beans with sour cream. The tortilla soup was decent as were the beans but the steak on both his fajitas and my nachos was pretty bland. My fiancé didn't finish even half of his fajitas but declined boxing them for lunch the next day, which speaks volumes for him. My nachos weren't terrible. The cheese, sour cream, tomato, and jalapeño helped make up for the lack of flavor on the steak but they weren't the best I've ever had. I was, however, disappointed that there was no kind of cheese dip appetizer on the menu. This wasn't the worst Mexican restaurant I've been to and the cook may have just had an off day but it's unlikely that we will return. We love Mexican food but there are better options closer to home so we will stick to our regular spots when we get the craving. read more

We all know service is just as important and some might agree even more important than how the food taste. This whole in the wall restaurant is located in the shopping center where Flanigans is. The restaurant is small decorated all over with Mexican knick knacks filled with colors and gives it an authenticity feeling. I absolutely love it and provided some pictures so you can see what I'm talking about. As soon as I came in Flor greeted me; she was so sweet and attentive as soon as I told her I just happen to come across the restaurant and wanted to view the menu before I decided to stay she explained to me all the specials. I'm not going to lie within the 2 minutes I spoke to Flor she won be over. I was eagerly excited to try the food and texted my friend that El Maguey was the restaurant we were having lunch. The restaurant provides chips and salsa - you can tell the salsa is homemade. My friend and I decided to have the steak nachos as an appetizer which are 20% off on Wednesdays (they have daily items 20% off on the back of the menu). When I asked Flor what were the drink specials she advised me it didn't start until 4pm, but to my surprise she brought my friend and I each a margarita on the house. As an entrée we both picked to have their lunch special which is 3 tacos with rice and beans. I picked the tacos al pastor and my friend picked the barbacoa. The owner's wife came to our table to apologize that they no longer have the meat to make the barbacoa and didn't want to provide any type of meat (quick tidbit they shop for their meats in Homestead home of the Mexican), so my friend opted for the carnitas. The owner's wife provided us with a small portion of guacamole and cheese to try. EVERYTHING and I mean everything we had tasted soooooooooo authentic, well-prepared, well-seasoned and like I said from the beginning just mouth watering delicious. As much as I would like to keep this is my little secret and would hate for it to become a big establishment I had to share with the world what a great experience I had and will definitely be going back for some more. Their complimentary chips and salsa don't disappoint but I wasn't overly impressed. As far as food goes, my husband had the Burrito Mexicano and I had the Mexican Quesadilla. It was good but I wasn't blown away (expectations were high after reading reviews). Tortilla was corn (I prefer flour). It looked more like soft tacos (2 individual size folded tortillas vs the traditional 4 triangles). And I believe the cheese was mozzarella (I prefer cheddar when it comes to quesadillas). Fast forward to last night and the worst food we've tasted from any restaurant inn Miami. We ordered the usual, chicken enchiladas suiza and a chicken burrito, and the Mexican rice and refried beans, which are part of the order. The enchiladas were chicken rolled tortillas with no sauce and melted Swiss cheeese, and the rice and beans looked like vomit. Of course we had to trash the entire $40 worth of food and go to bed hungry. I called to complain but whoever answered told me to speak to the owner who of course was not there, but took my # so he could call back.
