Stopped by yesterday with my three kids after visiting a nearby museum. We picked this place based on other reviews and, well, tacos. One of the employees, maybe a manager, was standing outside the door when we walked up. He was super friendly and showed us to the menus so we could decide what to eat. The inside is smaller than I expected but cozy. We ordered and grabbed a table to wait for our food. It didn't take long and everything was really good. We tried the salmon poke bowl, taco rice with ground beef, and tacos including the island fish, jerk chicken, ground beef, blackened salmon and Kailua pork. Everything was delicious! The guy checked back on us which wasn't necessarily expected but always appreciated. I recommend this spot if you're in the DuPont Circle area. read more

I really wanted this to be a place that I could give out 4 or 5 stars to, because the lion's share of reviews talk about it being excellent and I'm still in search of a taco place in the DMV that just blows me away -- sadly the only thing earning 5 stars was the service! I was disappointed with the chips & queso (I guess I'm not a fan of flour tortillas). I didn't spare a single bite of my tacos but none of them were reeling me in to buy more or come rushing back a week later! Don't let this review stop you from eating here if you're in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. Always on the lookout for Mex around my hotel. I saw this sign and decided to head inside and take a look at the menu. The menu is more island fusion but not overwhelming. I decided on getting a taco trio to get a good idea of their style. I asked for the best 3 out of the 10 types of tacos listed. I was told there's no top 3 they're all good. So I decided on a kalua pork taco, kalbi taco and jerk chicken. The order was ready quick. I poured some extra salsa on and took it to go. The trio is a good size. Not too filling but very fulfilling!! Easily 5-6 big bites per taco. All tee meats were tender and juicy. Kalua pork had a good slaw. Kalbi had a sweet seaweed type slaw? Great balance of tastes for each taco. Corn tortillas make it extra good the salsa is spicy but so good. The only disappointment was that my stomach is not bigger for more tacos and also their other main attraction, shaved ice! Check them out! read more

My 13 year old says "this is the best salmon poke I have ever had." She has had salmon poke in Hawaii and still ranks this higher. We live in the PNW and she ranks this salmon poke higher. We had 3 tacos here - jerk chicken, pork, and crispy tofu. The chicken taco was really good especially the crema that it came with. The queso and chips were okay but the chips were very salty so that wasn't as good. Overall it wasn't as good as expected but the prices and service are both very good, so good for a quick late night bite in DuPont. read more

Having lived in DC for a few years, I was skeptical of this restaurant. A place that sells tacos, poke, and wings did not seem like a good bet. After finally giving this place a try, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Despite the dingy basement appearance, the poke was amazingly fresh and flavorful. The best poke I've had in DC (though the bar is pretty low). I only tried the fried chicken tacos, which were pretty good, as advertised. My girlfriend got the jerk blue cheese wings, which she enjoyed, nice melty cheese to contrast the jerk flavor, and the wings themselves were tender. Loved this place. It's not that noticeable from the street but when you go in, it has a great vibe. They have a menu with a variety of options, including vegetarian options such as tofu, which is what I ordered. Ryan helped us out at register and he was great! I went in with a group of six, and we got our food quickly. We also ordered a bunch of icees, and they have a lot of different flavors which all sound delicious. I came to Tiki Taco after hitting up First Fridays at Dupont Circle. I probably never would have noticed this place but am glad we came in! As soon as you step in, you feel like you're in the Caribbean. Relaxing island music was playing in the background, and the menu featured all sorts of delicious things. I ordered the taco trio with jerk chicken, kalbi beef, and fried chicken. Listen, y'all, these tacos were the bomb! I appreciated that the jerk season was well seasoned and had some kick to it--a lot of places in the area use some raggedy McCormick's jerk seasoning, but this was the real deal! The kalbi beef taco was surprisingly good as well for a non-Korean place, and I also really enjoyed the fried chicken taco. All this for only $10.50 was a steal! They apparently had catering as well, so I'll probably look into that soon. The inside is small, but there are a few tables at which to sit, which was totally fine. Mmm mmm good! read more

These guys aren't trying to copy other tacos or claim they're "authentic" in any way. They are proud to be different, fusing Hawaiian flavors into their tacos. For example, their Kalua pork taco had a very attractive smoky flavor and it went perfectly with the tortilla. Their Shrimp taco, which I expected to be heavily battered and thick, was quite the opposite, hitting me with more flavor than I expected it to. I went to Tiki Taco for lunch and got the Salmon Poke Bowl (Tiki Style). It was a small portion of a scoop of rice, salmon chunks, pineapple bits, and onion pieces. Overall, the taste was decent. However, the salmon didn't taste particularly fresh, the pineapple plus the lime flavor they put on the plate made it too sweet, and the onions didn't really go with the rest of the flavors. For $10, this poke bowl was an okay deal. The interior of this place is small and it's easy to miss from the outside since you have to take stairs downward from the sidewalk. The service speed was pretty good and they bring to food to the tables. It seemed like they were going for a Hawaiian feel with the decor. Overall, the food at Tiki Taco is decent but not great (the other people I went with got an entree plate and the tacos and had the same opinion). For the price, it's worth a try, but I will probably try some other place next time. read more

This was my first stop when I was visiting D.C., and I was surprised & disappointed by the food. I wouldn't say my rating is 3 stars. Maybe 3.5 stars is more appropriate. The atmosphere of the place is great and the staff were very nice. I got 3 tacos: island fish, pork belly, and another shredded pork taco. My husband got their special, which was the "two-hander." When asked why it was called that, the man behind the register explained, "you need two hands to eat it." He wasn't wrong. My husband enjoyed his two-hander, which was filled with jerk chicken and another meat, which he thinks may have been jerk pork. My tacos were a different story. I want to start by saying the flavor of my tacos were amazing! The sauces and the salsas on each one were great. Honestly, the highlight of each taco was the toppings. I say that because, the meat was terrible. The fish was great and I should leave it out of this review, but the greatness of the fish was overshadowed by how bad both types of pork were. The shredded pork was dry. There is nothing else to say about it. The taco I was most excited about disappointed me the most. The pork belly taco was just awful. The pork was so tough that I couldn't finish it due to my jaw being in so much pain from chewing. My husband took a bite and after chewing for a few seconds he had to spit it out. It was completely inedible and I was so disappointed. I really liked this place despite the issues I had with the tacos. I did the mix trio with 2 blackened salmon tacos and 1 jerk chicken taco. To my surprise I should've ordered it the reverse way because I liked the jerk chicken taco more. This is odd because I'm not a jerk chicken fan, I prefer curry. It may have been that it had more flavor or the mango in the topping gave it the extra taste.
