Had a great experience at Lore recently. We went with the pre-fixe menu ($47 pp includes appetizer, entree, and dessert) and loved each bite more than the last. The service was attentive and quick and happy to offer suggestions and menu highlights. The drinks were so tasty (although pricey at $17 each) and I loved the mezcal one. The dosa and mushroom dish were my favorite of the bunch, but the banana pudding dessert with rose ice cream was to die for and so decadent. Would highly recommend stopping in! Only negative is tables are really close together, so in winter with so many big coats you'll end up with a lot of butts in your face as they push to get into their seats. read more

Finally got to visit this Bib Gourmand, mainly bc I had a promotion on the inkind app that I wanted to use this weekend. It was the perfect excuse to try it out. Food was definitely higher quality but maybe we ordered the wrong things. Other than the dosa which was perfect, everything else fell a bit short. Scallops were delicious but I didn't love the yogurt rice it came with and I accidentally ate a dried chili hidden inside and the heat just crept up and up and up that I couldn't really enjoy the seabream ssam afterwards. Lamb was decent but on the fatty and rare side. Service was good though - we reserved bar seating since that was the only availability but was able to switch to a table. Be sure to snag a reservation, not a single open table while I was there. The energy was joyous. Tried a few things. The standout for me was the dosa. Loved it, and the sauces it came with. Each dish was thoughtful and had a unique take on something familiar. When I arrived, with my reservation of course, I felt the service was a bit snooty and rushed. Maybe it was an off night, can't say for sure. I did feel to the right and left of my table, the staff was more patient and friendly. But thankfully things improved after the food arrived. Such a gem in Brooklyn! We usually go into Manhattan for date nights, but this place has definitely earned a spot on our list. The space is intimate and beautiful, and the staff was so kind and knowledgeable. One of the biggest perks for us was that almost all of the meat is halal (everything except the steak). I'd rate Lore four and a half stars. We walked in on a Sunday night when they opened at 6 and were seated without a reservation. Looks like reservations are not needed as long as you're all right sitting at the bar or outside. They have a full bar. A few beers including two local options. Some interesting wines by the glass. I was initially going to order my go to cocktail, but the waiter pointed out the House specialties which I missed. I opted for their mezcal based cocktail with passion fruit. Sweet, tropical, and delicious! Would highly recommend it. One of my favorite cocktails of the year. For food, we started with squash and the dosa. Squash was served over babaghanoush with a chili crisp oil and dill. Babaghanoush stood out the most in this dish. The dosa was my favorite item of the evening. Usually, I'm put off by $20 dosas; however, this was one of the best I've had in a while. The Indian crepe / pancake was rolled and filled with mashed curry potatoes. The filling was savory and delicious. Inspired me to try my take on curry mashed potatoes. It came with three sauces: an herby green sauces, a slightly spicy stew sauce, and a sweet chutney. The green sauce was my favorite, but you can't go wrong with any of the three. For our main course, we shared the duck leg confit. The tender duck leg was served with a sweet glaze and a side of mashed cannellini beans. Quite pricey at about $40 for just one leg. For dessert, we shared the ganache cake which was a very fancy was of listing a hot fudge brownie sundae. They used spirulina ice cream which appears to be an algae flavor. Not a very prevalent flavor with the brownie and fudge sauce being more prominent. Excellent service. Waiter made several great recommendations to improve our dining experience. A promising place I've been eyeing since they opened but finally had a chance to try it. The space is small and tables are pretty close together inside the dining area so not good if you don't like tight spaces or big groups. The food was a hit or miss for me. We had the lamb kebab and ravioli for appetizers and while the kebab had a nice taste to it with the sauce, the ravioli was just flavorless and too mushy in texture for me. The butterless butter chicken was interesting and reminded me more of a korma than butter chicken. Please note, this is a whole leg/thigh piece with bone in, not cut up chunks of chicken. The prawns were cooked well, had a nice bounce and not chewy. The sauce was a bit too spicy to my liking with a lot of dried pieces of ginger or ginger rind? I wish I had asked for the sauce on the side because it ruined the coconut rice for me. Hindsight, I regret letting my husband choose the apps and not asked for the Dosa instead since that seems to be the highlight from other reviewers. Ended the meal with the baklava with ginger ice cream and this was very good! I'm usually not into baklava due to the heavy rose water taste but this one was mild and not the traditional style. I have never heard of this place until my friend told me about it. Saw some reviews and noticed it was Bib Gourmand so I was in. Loves: + Good food and drinks. I especially loved the Kahlo cocktail (mezcal, tequka, passion fruit, etc)... yum. + This restaurant also has so many gluten free and dairy free things! + Friendly staff + Good location off 7th Ave While the place may feel a bit pricier than elsewhere (eg. $35 each for our mains), I honestly had such a positive dining experience here and would gladly return. Delicious intimate spot for innovative South Indian food! Highly recommend the dosa, chapli kebab, hariyali chicken and steak. These dishes in particular were all big portion sizes and we left very full. They also have some really fun cocktails. They have two mocktails but I was doing dry January and prefer not too have super sweet mock tails and docked a star because they don't have most sodas (only ginger ale) and when I asked for club soda they also didn't have that so I stuck with plain water. read more

There was a steady flow of customers from the start to the end of our dinner experience and I think you can safely say this restaurant is here to stay forever .... One thing to note is the restaurant is not very big and there are many tables squished next to each other in 1 cozy dining room. Plus bar seating. If you suffer from claustrophobia or human phobia or are having a private intimate dinner with lots of secrets to share , I do not recommend you come to this restaurant as it's on the loud and tight quarters side. Plus your conversation will be heard by those around you. However if you are happy to share your space with foodies in a sit down dinner at a friends home type atmosphere then run to Lore! Had high hopes since it was on the Michelin guide but was super disappointed. The dhosa was the best part of this meal. We ordered the lamb kebab as an appetizer and didn't expect for it to be just one tiny kebab. It also tasted like a lot of filler and not much lamb meat. For $24 I expected more. A very honest opinion loading: I've had this on my list for so long and we went for my bfs birthday. First things first do not go here with expecting Indian food at all. It's a fusion. Keeping that in my mind it's important to not have the expectation of having traditional Indian food. What's being accomplished here is not being done anywhere else, absolutely 5 stars for creativity, service and quality. The apps? Out of this world no notes. We got the dosa and the lamb kebabs. But the entrees? I got the butter masala steak (just a warning very spice forward and not like spicy hot no I mean just extraordinary amounts of spice) but overall would definitely get again. I thought a masala steak was very creative and completely melted in my mouth but then it went south because my bf got the lamb rack... that was our worst bite. The lamb had no seasoning at all (no salt or pepper) and the sauce was an onion jam which was again VERY spice forward. I assume the thought process was to under spice the lamb because the jam would make up for it, but the jam was just unpleasant. Overall 3 out of 5 for entrees. I can tell the chef/owner is very very talented. What he's taking on which is an Indian FUSION is no easy feat. My recommendation would be drinks, apps and the steak but if you're not a steak person go somewhere else for dinner. Final consensus, I'll definitely be back for the drinks and appetizers but may go elsewhere for my main entree. (Can't comment on the dessert but might give it a try on our next visit) read more

The food at Lore is no joke! We ordered several things off the menus and every dish is bursting with flavors. Each dish was perfectly balanced and the textures really make each dish a joy to eat! The fermented dosa was so good, but the roti ravioli stole the show for me! The texture of the pomegranate seeds with the perfectly al dente ravioli combined with the flavor made this dish unforgettable! The service was also spot on, the waiter made sure everything was to our liking and made sure we enjoyed our food. You couldn't ask for better service! Despite the restaurant being packed, the ambiance of the restaurant was still cozy, but not the point where you're on top of someone else. I'm so bummed this place wasn't great. Appetizers and cocktails were the best part of the evening - great flavors although in tiny packages. Everything else wasn't worth it. If I ever return that's all I'll be ordering, at the bar. Entrees were not done well. Butterless Butter Chicken was accompanied by one noted mild sauce, and the fish wasn't cooked well in the fish and chips. The ganache cake which promised flavors of rose and cardamom turned out to be a tasteless brownie with tasteless ice cream on top with a few specks of salt covered with an ok ganache. We had a reservation indicating we were celebrating something special, and that was never acknowledged which was a bummer. Our table and the table of our neighbors on the patio were wobbly. Trying "reimagined Indian cuisine" in a small-but-mighty restaurant in Park Slope. I tried two of their starters and two of their mains but what stood out the most was their famous Fermented Dosa. It lived up to its hype and was the star of the show, with its crispy texture and coconut filling that was the perfect amount of "not-too-sweet". The Roti Ravioli was a little too spicy for me (and I can usually handle spiciness quite well) but the mains were delicious. The space is very tight and you really should make a reservation ahead. During brunch, I had the Steak and Eggs, the Dosa, and a Mimosa. Everything was delicious and I was a little disappointed that I didn't have room to try more dishes (they had great portions). On top of the food / drinks being great, the service was also wonderful. The seating is a bit tight inside but the host, server, and even Chef smoothly made their rounds to check in with everyone. Side notes: Dosa is the best thing here. Order it, order it, order it. Desserts are outstanding. Entrees were tasty. Menu online doesn't have all the offerings of the in-house one so some dishes below don't have the full description. I was at this spot with a few others a couple nights ago. I originally was going to potentially have some bias but the food was good enough here that bias is not necessary. Service was friendly and warming and the head chef Jay(esh) Kumar clearly loves what he does here. He used to work in Switzerland and the food here is an eclectic mix of Indian and various global flavors. To drink, I got the Alcott with coconut washed rye whiskey, rhubarb, and "East India " which was perhaps rum or maybe arrack? which was tasty. Strong coconut flavor with some warmth and fruit. To start, two of us went with the Fermented Dosa with coconut chutney, potato, red lentil daal, and gunpowder. This was probably the best dosa I've ever had and I've had a lot from fancy spots to hole in the walls whether it be NJ or NY. The dosa has a wonderful crispiness and the potato inside was well flavored without being too spicy. The sides whether it be the coconut chutney, the middle chutney (tomato maybe) or the daal were also really delicious. They could honestly sell this only and probably have a line out the door. I tried the Lamb Chapli Kebabs with baba ghanoush, castelvetrano olives, and tomato confit. This was a smaller plate but the meat was rich and tende and it was also very tasty. The last person got the Baked Puff Pastry Samosa with tamarind chutney and mango cashew crème. The sweetness was heavier than most samosas and overall it was alright and my least favorite but still good (but the rest were outstanding.) The chef provided us with a fish curry (sea bream) which was tasty. He said they might add this to the menu as well with a different fish likely. Would recommend. Very tasty. As my main dish, I went with the Lamb Chops. The description online doesn't exist but I know they came with some roasted eggplant and onions as well as a thickened Rogan Josh curry sauce. The curry sauce was a fun spin and the lamb was nicely cooked. They didn't ask about meat temperature and it came out medium but it was plenty tender. I tried the Hen of the Woods Mushroom Uttapam with shiitake, tomato chutney, and arugula. As with the appetizer, this dish more inspired by Indian food was also outstanding. The Uttapam had a good crisp to it and the shiitake was a good way of adding earthiness. It would make a delicious light dish. Another person had Prawns (no current description) which had I think perhaps some type of mango sauce and some seafood rice. I only tried a bit but it was tasty. They were of course served whole and there was a separate plate for the shells. The last person had their popular Sea Bream Ssam with butter head lettuce, cucumbers, mint chutney, hot red chutney, and malabar spices which they loved. My dessert of choice was Semolina Pudding with caramelized banana, cashew, and rose ice cream. While not listed on the current online menu, this was essentially a delicious mix of sooji halwa and banana's foster. The banana added some good fruity sweetness, the cashews had some good crunch, and the rose ice cream added good floral flavors. It was rich and delicious. I also tried the Chocolate Cake (unknown description) which was excellent and others loved their Stone Fruit Granité with olive oil curd, stone fruit, and shiso. We went for restaurant week and ordered the prefix menu. It wasn't very good. I had the butternut squash dish which turned out to be delicata squash. Too spicy and the delicata wasn't sweet which would have balanced the dish. The fish and chips were ok. The fries were not tasty. The dessert was a disaster. I'm not sure what took me so long to check out Lore- loved the unique fusion flavors, vegetarian friendly menu, and elegant space! My husband and I decided to check out Lore one night with his parents. It was good that I made a reservation since the restaurant is pretty small inside and it seemed like they didn't have space for walk ins. Having an adventurous party of four is always fun since we got to try a bunch of things together. I can't remember what other mains were ordered, but everyone really enjoyed -fermented dosa- we were all politely vying for the last bite of this. The savory filling wrapped in the crispy dosa doused with their bold sauces was a crowd pleaser -salad- I think they may change this up seasonally, but when we went it was a memorably flavorful salad that nailed crunchy textures, creamy complementary dressing, and zingy flavors to bring it all together -mushroom uttapam- I had this for my main, and while I couldn't stop eating it I do wish they'd balance the indulgence of the dish with something a bit lighter All in all, a place I'll definitely return with guests to impress (its a bit pricey) and I look forward to trying brunch! read more

This place is incredible. I met a few friends here on a weeknight and had utterly flawless service and magnificent food, all inside an absolutely lovely and cozy Brooklyn spot. There were plenty of vegan options, and the food was brilliant and flavorful. We shared several appetizers including the Delicata Squash and Dosa. The standout for me though was the Roti Ravioli, which was unbelievably flavorful - its spiciness balanced with sweet pomegranate. I'm still mad that I had to share with my table mates. For an entree I had the Mushroom Uttapam. I loved this savory and satisfying dish as well. Please forgive the subpar photo, I was trying not to be too extra while everyone was trying to eat. Our waitress was simply perfect. She had plenty of enthusiasm for the menu, was lots of fun, and shifted seamlessly between being engaging and knowing when to let our group chat while she continued to make sure we had everything we needed. I've been meaning to try this place out for a while since meeting the chef/owner as they were getting ready to open up in a spot that had changed hands several times over the past few years. Based on this experience, the new hands are very good ones indeed. They are open for brunch during the weekend and I saddled up to the bar which was cozy and well-stocked. After a warm reception from the bartender I had a Talea hazy IPA and settled on the biscuits and the fish and chips. The biscuits were warm and flaky and served with butter and a mixed berry cardamom jam. (They were gone before I had a chance to take a photo! Sorry!) The fish and chips were astonishingly gluten free and tasted on par with anything I've had in a British pub and were served with 3 accompaniments that all brought something to the party. The fries were the star of the party though and I didn't leave a morsel on the plate. I wrapped up my hour long lunch with the cashew baklava served with misagaru ice cream (I looked it up and still can't say what it tasted like.) We met our out of town friend here for dinner because he has celiac and there were so many gf options. However, after being really eager to eat here because of all the rave reviews, I was super disappointed. Food: We got the brussels sprouts and french fries to share as starters; the former were charred to within a millimeter of still being vegetable not mineral, and the latter were reasonably good fries with bottled ketchup. Our gf friend got the dosa as his main, which he said was good enough, but he took half of it home. I had the chicken that was meant to be a riff on korma, but it was basically a roasted thigh with pretty colored creamy sauces and undefinable chopped aromatic on top, might have been the daikon. Partner had the fish & chips which he said was pretty bland. The "fish" looked like a small baked potato in batter (generic "fish?"), and we already had had enough fries (our bad). Our 4th pal had the mushroom uttapam, which he seemed pleased with. My wine was a very generous pour, I will say! Service: As for the service, it was simply indifferent, with a side of slightly rushed. My friend and I both ordered off the restaurant week menu which highlights their best sellers. For the appetizer, I got the delicata squash which was so tasty and had a serious kick to it. I ordered the chicken as my main and really enjoyed the squash puree that it came with. For dessert, I had the chocolate ganache cake with ice cream which was so yummy! Portions weren't huge, but you definitely feel full. My only complaint is that the ventilation is bad inside and you leave smelling of the food. Tucked away in Brooklyn I came here from Manhattan to meet up with a friend who raved about the food. The restaurant itself was very cozy with the coolest and nicest staff greeting you as you enter the establishment. The cuisine is a bit like contemporary South-Indian food. I decided to go with the Butter Chicken and my friend had the Fish & Chips. When I tell you that it was the best chicken I ever had, with the most sensational rice to complement it, I really mean it. The Leafy Salad was amazing as well, and had so much texture and flavor for a salad that I never knew was possible. And as for the Lamb Chapli Kebabs, it was nearly impossible to not lick the plate clean with how amazing the sauces tasted. Lore is lowkey one of the best brunch places in the area. It is an Indian restaurant with modern twist. We ordered drunken banana pancake and mushroom uttapam. Both delicious and flavorful! Every bite is a blast of flavors in my mouth. The drunken pancake is topped with fried banana, crunchy pumpkin seeds and berries. The acidity of berries and sweetness of maple and banana works very well. Mushroom uttapam is interesting. It's a fried egg on top of a layer of potato and chili oil, and on top of fried kimchi uttapam that has a texture similar to Latkes. We also ordered a side of scramble eggs. Unlike side eggs in other restaurants, Lore really put thoughts in making the best scramble possible with great flavor. Service is very good. Coziest spot in south slope for dinner! Consistently great service, friendly and efficient. I personally love the veggie options (the salad, brussels sprouts and carrots are divine). My partner loves the sea bream when in season, which can be eaten like little fish tacos with salad leaves and delicious sauces. I begin with by saying that they have/had one of the best desserts I have tried ( I hope when I am back, it is still there). I have no idea what's the name of it, but you will see it in the pictures. LORE stands out with its food presentation and how instagrammable the concept is! This is a very smart move, especially for the neighborhood. They have a mixed fusion cuisine with a flare of India (if I am not mistaken). The food was good, but some dishes were too full of taste and spices (at least for me). They have a seasonal menu and some dishes; what we looked up in reviews were no longer available, which was a bit of a disappointment. They do have a great ceviche! The restaurant inside is pretty small but very lovely. It did catch my eye that the tables are too close to each other, which is a bit uncomfortable. They have a very nice summer terrace that you will enjoy for sure. Their cocktails are simply good, nothing over the top or too complicated. You will enjoy your margarita or glass of beer for sure. We did not have a reservation, and the service was very friendly and accommodating. Though, I would certainly recommend having a reservation. It is a strong four-star review, just because, I think, they have some space to improve! But the overall experience was great! read more
