This was alright. Having eaten flavorful, spicy Indian and Pakistani food my whole life, this restaurant was very bland. I would recommend it to someone who doesn't eat flavorful foods on the daily. But for the average Pakistani or Indian, I wouldn't recommend this. read more

I can't say how good this food was. I had the Butter Chicken...delicious. My son had the Curry chicken....superb. We split the Chicken Kabobs with the mango salad it was out of this world good. The only draw back is,I don't live here. read more

The food isn't bad for a 'fastfood style' indian food. It's a clean, new building. The Mango Lasse is not good, so don't even try it if you've had a real mango lasse before. I went with my wife to the restaurant, and both of us were utterly disappointed. First of all, we had to wait for almost 35 min to actually get to the counter. Secondly the food quality was so bad! I took the lamb tikka bowl. Unfortunately, it was no way close to the authentic tikka preparation. Also, to make the bowl look full, their trick is to fill it with plain white basmati rice (although of poor quality)! Since, we eat similar kind of food at home, I know how much it would cost to prepare a bowl like what Tikka shack offers smile emoticon..Finally, my wife ordered a paneer tikka bowl and it was sugary in taste! To me it looks like people are excited about this new eatery (since Lubbock does not have any other Indian restaurant), and they want to give it a try and I am really skeptical about the percentage of returning customers. OVERPRICED: The dishes are composed as follows: 1/2 of the bowl is rice, 1/4 is sauce, and 1/4 (or less) is meat. Basically, you are paying $9 for 4 small pieces of meat. These bowls should be priced in the $6 range. AUTHENTICITY: It does not have an Indian atmosphere, the restaurant is built like a Chipotle. TASTE: Meat is well cooked and seems quality. Rice is plain. Sauce has way too much spice. The tongue receptors are active dealing with the hot spice, thus you CANNOT taste the flavor of the sauce. I am disappointed, we have good hygiene and do not need spices to kill bacteria like in other countries without toothpaste. read more

This is my first time eating indian food in the U.S and unfortunate Tilkka Shack didn't live up to my expectations! I was expecting indian chefs who know how to cook real indian food, but this was very Americanized. I have been here twice & both times I couldn't finish my dishes. Worst Indian restaurant I've ever been to.

First I ordered the Lamb Bahraini, and some chicken 65 as a take out. I was given Chicken Bahraini, could not eat it, the chicken tasted like paste with no flavor. I called the store to tell them what had happened, and all they could tell me is "sorry our employee at the counter got the order wrong, but we were not charged extra for the lamb" no attempt to fix my problem, just a sorry about it. Will never go back and will tell every Indian person I know to stay away. The flavor is non-existant, tastes like regular rice and mush. Guess you still have to go to Dallas or Houston to get some good Indian food, because this place is not the answer. Not only am I disappointed in the flavor and quality of the food, and time to get the food, waited 45 minutes to get it; but the quality of the service is severely lacking more than even a zero level. If you did not get what you clearly ordered and was repeated back to you from the person at the counter, well sucks to be you. Well sucks to be in business, because you will not be there very much more. Very Very Very Very bad, never had this quality of food ever given to me in an Indian restaurant and never this quality of service. Tikka Shack is Indian fast food. The restaurant is nice, new, and modern. You pick your dish, next pick your protein, then decide if you want naan. Service was quick and efficient. If you sign up with them, they'll send you emails with specials and coupons. The food is probably pre-made as it was delivered a few minutes after I ordered. The masala sauce was rather orangeish, mild in heat (which is probably appropriate in the fast food setting). It was somewhat sweet, which was different than what I remembered from other Indian restaurants. Rice was decent, though I don't think it was Basmati rice. The naan was OK, but reminded me more of a tortilla, rather than the freshly baked naan you would receive at a full service restaurant. It was nice to dunk the naan in your Masala sauce. There are numerous outlets in the booth area, handy for your electrical devices. A nice change when you're tired of the burger places. read more

The last time I was here, I ordered hot. The tikka masala was very bland. I was not pleased. This time I ordered extra hot and it was way too spicy. There should be a level between the hot and the extra hot or maybe better consistency. The hot was way too bland but the extra hot can't not be eaten. Seriously disappointing. I've been drooling over the website for months, waiting for this place to open. Unfortunately it is nothing like the website. After an outrageous wait because they only had one person taking orders and their were five couples/groups in front of me, the disappointments began. The website shows nice bamboo plates with five or six sections. What you get is a cake-pan tray and pressed paper bowls and waxed paper. I am not sure how you get grilled food to come out greasy, but they did. The food was barely warm when I got it...after another long wait. Flavors are weak and the naan...well it was flat and it probably once was bread. The sauces come in LITTLE plastic cups and they get a bit snippy if you ask for more. We were looking forward to getting our fix of Indian food after Maharaja closed. The menu was a bit confusing. It looked like they were trying to be Chipotle serving Indian food. We ended up ordering custom bowls plus naan. It was not busy, but I was a bit concerned when the food came out in about 2 minutes. Obviously the base sauces are premade, and the proteins just added. The taste was ok, but did not have the depth of flavor and spices of more authentic Indian food. The naan was terrible and the most disappointing part of the meal. If you are going to have big signs saying "Naan Nation" and charge a buck for each one, please serve real, fresh naan, not reheated pita bread! At more than $10 per plate with the naan, it was not cheap for what you got. read more

My favorite place to eat in Lubbock. Food is ALWAYS good. Super fast and super delish. Plus craft beers. And now they have like 4 quirky cool beers on tap as well. Southern Curry with Lamb and Garlic Naan. Better than any Indian food I have had in Lubbock. (Thus the four star rating) Went after the lunch hour so it was not crowded. Most of the tables were occupied and three parties in front of me. Took about 5 minutes to order and another 10 minutes to get my food. It is spaced nicely so you are not crowded at your table. Service was more than adequate, but not extraordinary. The Food: Tasty and fragrant. I asked for extra spicy and looks like a few extra peppers were added. Lamb was tender and the curry smooth. Meal was hot when delivered. Naan was very good. I will definitely return. Talked with several other diners and as stated in previous reviews, the chicken marsala seems to be the most ordered item. My husband and I went about a week after opening, and I loved it. He wasn't very impressed with the long wait and generally unimpressive service but I figure that's to be expected with a new place that's still ironing out all the kinks.
