I would say one of the best no frills Chinese restaurants in Lubbock. The chashu black garlic ramen broth had the right amount of black garlic and was flavorful. The food here was delicious! They have absolutely huge portions. When we walked in they gave us a little dish of peanuts to eat while we waited for our food. My soup came in a very large bowl with a small ladle for a spoon. The broth was very clear and very flavorful. It had a very slight earthy mushroom flavor, and the cilantro on top brightened everything up beautifully. The meat was very tender and sliced very thin. Not here. Absolute perfection-just the right amount of spicy hotness, oil and natural cucumber flavor. Truth-best I ever had. Entire meal was so flavorful, scrumptious and enjoyed every bite. Fun Noodle Bar is such a pleasant surprise since I find it to be authentic Chinese food. This restaurant is located on 68th and Slide Road, and it's next to Spec's. Parking is easy, and I was able to get a table for myself with no wait time on a weekday evening. The shop is on the smaller side, but it offers quite a bit of seating, and you're able to see fresh noodles prepared in front of you if you sit at the bar. I got the roasted rib pork noodle soup with the pan fried bao, and my food came out quickly. The noodle soup was delicious! The meat was tender, flavorful, and fell off the bone, and it paired so well with the savory broth and fresh, chewy noodles. I think I would have put my review at 4.75 stars if I could. 4.75 because even though the food and atmosphere were great I wish the sweet sesame balls were bigger or priced cheaper because it was like a quill egg size for $6 for 5 of them. The tonkotsu ramen was pretty good it was just a nice soft balance of flavors, just didn't have a wow taste to it. Maybe because I normally like my soft boil eggs to be on the runny side. It was pretty boiled to where the juice of the egg didnt have the chance to flow in the broth. Pros: Any of the baos were extremely delicious. I should have take a photo of them but it was all eaten before I thought about it. Its pretty awesome you can see the food being made at the noodle bar area. I will say the service was awesome, however I don't know what everyone else is eating here because the food was not good at all. My daughter had the beef ramen. Tasted rancid. So she ate some of my fried rice instead. I had the combo fried rice and it was as bland as could be. No seasoning at all. My wife had something with peanut sauce and said it was okay. The beef Bao was terrible. The pan fried dumplings were below average. Makes no sense. 100$ for a place that can't spare (at the very minimum) salt and pepper? No thank you. When I checked it the menu online it looked like they had vegetarian soup options but I did not see them on the in person menu. So I went with the pan fried sliced noodles with veggies. While there was egg in the dish I do with they had more protein options such as edamame or tofu. Another dishes did have edamame so I think this is something they could easily do. Simply outstanding. I stumbled upon this place while in Lubbock for business, and was so impressed I ate here twice during my five night stay. This is the most authentic noodle shop you will find outside of New York or California. I can't believe it is here in Lubbock. The noodles are hand-pulled and all of the food is fresh and wonderful. The kitchen is visible to the guests so you can watch the show as the cooks stretch and twirl giant bands of noodles. My personal favorite were the steamed beef and green onion dumplings. The only regret I had was ordering fried rice... not that it wasn't excellent, it just kept me from experiencing one of the more exciting dishes on the menu. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. The staff is friendly and efficient. Both times I ate here I was in and out in less than 40 minutes. Lubbock honestly doesn't have enough good Asian restaurants. We're from LA in Cali so we come from a very competitive market for Asian food. I This is the restaurant that makes Lubbock's Chinese food viable. I'm also Taiwanese, so I can confidently say this place is authentic. They continue the ancient legacy of making their own noodles and bao in-house, meaning they're fresh and well-priced. Green Onion Pancake and Xiaolongbao are amazing here -- really can't go wrong with beef noodle soup or fried rice either. I want to support this restaurant and others like it because we need more places like this. 5/5 every single time, though the restaurant itself can get a little packed sometimes. Order to go to skip the line and enjoy authentic Chinese food at home. Closest thing you can get to real Northern Chinese food or even a place like Din Tai Fung out here in Lubbock. As a Chinese restaurant, the ramen ain't bad either. It's a crime that this Chinese restaurant's Tonkotsu ramen is still probably better than any other Japanese ramen in the city. (We need more authentic Japanese places too, at least we have Seoul for Korean) I have also heard very good things about their boba milk tea, but have not personally tried it myself. Just make sure to be aware that this is not Panda Express: it's real Chinese food. Give it a shot and you won't be disappointed. read more
