This is the Chipotle of Indian food. It may not be authentic but you get a lot of food for the price. Great vegitarian options. Pretty casual environment. I've been here a lot for lunch and dinner and really enjoy the options. I love their Tikka Pizza, it's well sized and only $5. My wife gets a lot of vegetarian options and she loves a lot the spicier food. I usually get less spicy food and there are some good options there also. The lamb curry was done really well the lamb was tender and the spices were good. Great food, great flavors! I've only had Indian food a handful of times but I must say I'm impressed with what Tikka Shack cooks up. I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars because I wish the food was a bit spicer. Also they do not give you enough naan to eat your meal with plus you have to pay for it too unless you check in on Facebook and get the free promotional snack naan. The atmosphere was nice and inviting, and you can smell the curry when you walk in the door. The restaurant was very clean and new and they had an appealing design scheme for their menu and interior design. The service was very fast and the food was very hot and fresh. They and a wide selection of craft beers and a house speciality mango yogurt drink (nonalcoholic of course) which is meant to sooth the spiciness of the curry. Overall, the food was pretty tasty and I will definitely come back. I recommended the southern curry bowl with lamb and traditional naan and that you eat it by using the bread to pick up rice and the curry, like traditional Indian cuisine and only using your right hand. read more

Taking into consideration they are a faster type food joint and not so much the actual authentic Indian cuisine like maharajah was, the tastes were comparable. The chicken tiki masala is my favorite dish at both the (now closed) maharaja, and tikka shack. I currently crave some more because the food was absolutely delicious, even my leftovers the next day, which says a lot for bread and rice. This low review is due to customer service and ordering. I ordered online, there was an option to leave a note or request, and I let them know I would be picking it up at 5:45 pm. I got a text it was ready. I called to refer them to the note. I was told that they cannot do advance pick up orders. I asked them if that was the case, why didn't they call me when they received the note. The woman I spoke with said that she had not seen the ticket. I explained that if they were going to offer these options with an online ordering system, they really should honor them. I told her I would not be able to pick up the food until 5:45. She said they would hold it for me. I said, it would be cold then. She said yes. A customer service oriented restaurant would have acted differently. I cannot recommend the Tikka Shack. read more

I really wanted to like this place and do not have much to say except that after years of having Indian food at various Indian restaurants , this one just doesn't stack up taste wise. I was very disappointed. Had the biryani one time and it did not impress me and had the tikka masala the second time and it was very sweet and even at extra hot just did not taste like chicken tikka masala. Maybe it is the lack of spices. Maybe it is catered more toward non spicy American tastes and maybe made more as a fast food concept rather than an authentic Indian concept. In any event, I will keep hoping that someone has the balls someday to open a good Indian Restaurant in Lubbock. Nearly 300,000 population and not one good Indian Restaurant around. Heads up for iPhone users, opening the address from yelp in the maps app will NOT take you to the right place. Type in the address unless you wish to go to a random field. Food: enjoyable. My bf asked for extra hot spice level and it was what you'd expect for a restaurant giving "spicy" food; it's more economical to give people food not as spicy as they hoped than it is to have to make them a new dish if it's too spicy. One thing other restaurants have done to allow for more spice without risk on their part is offer a side of spicy sauce that the guest can add a lot of a little of. I could see that being appropriate here. We both got lamb and it was tender, not much connective tissue or anything. I was satisfied with the amount of food, as well. The tikka sauce was nice and bright with a little sweetness, but I personally still craved a bit more depth of flavor. The price may keep me from coming back too often. Tikka shack is about $2 more expensive than chipotle for a bowl. This isn't huge, but it definitely adds up over time. I'm glad there is a place in Lubbock to get Indian food, however. I hope this place makes it. Service: staff friendly, presumed managed seems hands-on and attentive. Unfortunately, my first experience with Tikka Shack left me watching the food runners bring food to people who ordered long after I did. However, they literally just opened and I don't hold it against them whatsoever. It's just something to work on. This place SUCKS butt! Our family decided to try this place. Unfortunately for this restaurant, everyone in our family is originally from a metropolitan area with real food from India (and Fiji). No matter which entrée you order, the sauces are average at best. They are watered-down and weak. Additionally, the portions are tiny. The final straw was the shrimp; they are chewy and stringy (old and frozen for a long time). There are simply too many issues for this place to receive a second chance. Let me start off by saying I went into this with an open mind but still slightly afraid of indian food. The only time I have had indian food in my life was when I was 9 years old, living next to a family from India, and my neighbor's mother offered me some food she was cooking for her family that night. Fast forward nearly 30 years! I went with two friends around 1pm on a Tuesday afternoon. We walked in and there was no wait. The restaurant appeared clean and organized. The staff was ready to take orders and was nice, albeit not overly friendly. I had already researched the menu on Yelp before arriving, so I knew what I wanted. However, if I hadn't have researched, I might have been a little overwhelmed. I went for the "Build Your Own Bowl" option. I chose Butter Masala sauce, shrimp and added a Garlic Naan and a drink. The total came out to a little over $14, so this was a little pricier than I typically like to pay for lunch. The sauce was creamy, savory, spicy and a bit sweet. The rice was wonderful! The shrimp was cooked to perfection. The garlic naan was good as well. If you don't like garlic, don't order this one. The entire order was just the right amount of food. My coworker ordered the Tikka Masala with chicken. The sauce on this dish was good as well but more tomato-ey than mine with a slightly lighter taste. Both were good, but if I had to choose one over the other, I'd choose the Butter Masala because I really liked the richness of that particular sauce. Perhaps it's because they are new, but this place was a train wreck! The wait time was ridiculous as they would take an order or two and then just stop taking orders. We waited in a short line for nearly 40 minutes. When we did get to the counter to order they were out of most of the appetizers and several of the entrees. When we did get our food (Chicken Masala because it's about all they had left) I have to say we were pleasantly surprised - was actually better then I had expected. Was it high end indian food? No, but then again I don't go to Rosa's expecting Mexican fine dining either. Food was tasty. Customer service was completely subpar. I walked into the restaurant at around 6:35 p.m. There were two 2-tops and a 4-top already seated...one table was waiting for their food. I ordered an app and a rice/meat bowl for one person. Another person came in at the same time as I did to pick up her to-go order. I sat down to wait for my food, and at least five other parties of two or more entered, ordered, and sat or came to pick up to-go orders. After waiting for 28 minutes (according to the time on my emailed receipt) and after watching 3 other orders go out to customers who were dining in, and I also saw two to-go orders picked up. I walked up to the counter and asked when I would receive my order. The young persons at the front (one male, one female) said my order would be right out. I mentioned that three other dine-in orders had already been delivered. The female stated that they were filling online orders, and my order was half complete (waiting on the app that, apparently, takes a long time to make). She asked if I wanted my order without my app. I said I just wanted my food. I stood at the counter to wait. So, she turned around gathered orders for others....the male took an order out to the tables. The female told the line cook that she needed a samosa chaat (the app I ordered), and he said, "I just gave you one." She said, "We needed two." I said, "Wait, wait, wait! Did you just send out the app I ordered to someone who ordered after me?" She turned around and said, "Well, he just forgot." I said, "Yes...that is more like it. Now, I want my food." She said, "It is coming out soon. Would you like a refund?" I said, "No. I want my food." She said, "It's coming." She then turned around, looked at the male, and said, "So, ANYWAY," while rolling her eyes, and continued the conversation that, apparently, was distracting the young man. My app eventually came out. I was in the restaurant waiting for food until 7:18.....a couple that came in after me and ordered after me ate and left before I got my order. Teaching moment: the male behind the counter needs to be trained more about expediting food and making sure he is able to understand how to balance online and in-store orders. He seemed clueless, and he was more interested in carrying on a personal conversation with his female counterpart than working his job. The female needs more managerial training and customer service training if she is going to be the FOH manager. I have had better customer service and quality control from 16 year-olds at fast food restaurants who have little to no managerial experience or training. SUPER disappointing, but not surprising for a young person who has either had little training or ignored the training she was given. Next time I visit, I will go to the TS location on TTU campus. We tried this place after we tried Royal Indian Buffet, and I have to say that I still prefer them. I got a samosa and the chicken tikka and naan. The samosa was really good but the chicken tikka was mediocre. First of all, there were only 4-5 pieces of chicken in my whole bowl, and since I didn't know that, I ended up with a bunch of orange rice at the end which I didn't even want to eat. The naan was also not as flavorful as Royal Indian Buffet's. Overall good idea but poor execution. read more

Today is opening day for the Tikka Shack. As expected, it was busy. The line to order was out the door. The service was pretty slow. After ordering, it took 20 minutes for the meal to come out. During that time, the line to order did not move. There seem to be a few issues with communication. Hopefully, things will smooth out as the staff becomes more accustomed to the job. The atmosphere was fun. It was a bit reminiscent of Chipotle. The food was quite good. The Indian flavors were well balanced. Nothing was too overpowering. The Tikka Masala with lamb was very good. The lamb was tender and had a great flavor. The Tikka Masala with paneer was also very good. The cheese was a bit different, but delicious. The garlic naan was a bit lacking in flavor. This may have been due to the cooks trying to rush out orders. Overall, the service was slow, but the food was delicious. I will be coming back in the future, but I will wait until it has calmed down a bit and some of the kinks have been worked out. read more

Ordered the curry steak and it took 25min for it to come out! The restaurant was empty and it's 245 (their slow time). Got back to work and the steak was well done. I am a food snob, but when it comes to Indian food, I've yet acquire the ability to distinguish between expensive good tasting Indian food and fairly priced good tasting Indian food. Compared to Tikka Masala that I've had in Austin, a city known for its amazing food apparently, Tikka Shack is just as good. I actually would even pick Tikka Shack over an expensive place most days anyway unless we were trying to get a fancy atmosphere for a special occasion. The establishment itself is very clean and the service is nice. They also accept apple pay for those who are getting 5% cash back with Chase in this quarter! Haha I've eaten here many times since discovering it in April of 2016, but that cashback boost happened recently as incentive to pick this Indian restaurant over another. Cold food! First let me say that I will be returning to Tikka Shack after their grand opening, and I hope to be able to comeback and edit this rating at that time. Hopefully my food's quality was an outlier - due maybe to the fact that some of the staff is still being trained and that I was one of the first five customers of the day (cook hadn't quite gotten into the groove yet?). I arrived at the restaurant just before 2:30, Saturday, April 16th... It was a weird situation where they didn't open until 2:30. The interior is nice and clean, staff friendly and helpful. I ordered the chicken butter masala which came with basmati rice and I added an order of garlic naan onto the order. Cutting to the chase, my masala was luke warm and the cubed chicken very hard and actually somewhat cool (80 degrees?) in the center. It wasn't raw or anything crazy, but rather seemed to be left over chicken from the fridge?? The basmati rice was good and so was the naan. However the naan is a bit different from anything I've had before. Instead of being thick and chewy in the center, it is extremely thin and rather crispy - but nothing wrong with that. I ate about 5 pieces of the chicken with the rice and naan before just grabbing a lid and taking the majority that remained to go. I will be heating it up at home, hopefully the chicken softens as it warms. The flavor seemed alright, however it's hard for me to say as I was so focused on the tepid sauce and cool chicken. So I struggled giving this place only two stars, however that is truly all the meal deserved. Next time I eat at Tikka Shack, I will probably go the purist route and try the kebob - hopefully it is fresh. I want this place to be great because Lubbock has so few options for Indian food.
