Had a reservation booked and when we tried to check in door was locked and nobody would answer the numbers provided.

We had reservations and paid ahead for a room...but when we arrived the door was locked. There is a phone number on the door for late arrivals. So we called and left a message. Then called back multiple times. And we got ghosted!!!! It was only 7pm. It's not like we showed up at 2AM! Shame on us for eating first when getting to town. We never got any communication from the b&b and had to drive back home. I feel like a simple email or phone call back could have resolved the situation, but instead they took my money and ran. This was an amazing stay!! The house is beautiful, full of old furniture and photos, just gorgeous! Bathrooms are modern and well appointed, our hostess Gayle was pleasant, informative and very accommodating. We could not have asked for better! On the ghost side, there is a cat that is said to haunt the Inn along with a civil war Colonel and Tillie herself! I didn't personally experience anything but some odd knocking late at night, but my wife was successful with a brief EVP session where the Col., very politely, asked her to turn off her camera! I highly recommend this Inn and will be staying here again!!! read more

If you love old houses with lots of history, want a place close to all of the attractions, or are into ghost cats, the Tillie Pierce House will not disappoint. Tillie Pierce was only a young girl when the Civil War came to her front door in a small Pennsylvania town called Gettysburg. Believing it would be safer, Tillie and her family fled to a farmhouse out of town, located at the base of a hill called Little Round Top. If you're familiar with history, you now how that all turned out - she ended up caring for wounded soldiers for several days, and later wrote a book about her experiences. It's that sort of rich history that will appeal to most people who stay at the Tillie Pierce house, more so than the modern hotels in around the town. The B&B is very much a mom & pop operation. My girlfriend and I came during the off season, and as such were the only people in the entire place for most of the weekend. It's an old building, and as such expect creaks and cracks throughout the entire house. We stayed in the Salome Myers room, which had a very comfortable bed, a modern bathroom, really warm blankets, and windows out to Baltimore Street. I can't complain about the features in the room other to say that being close to the busy Baltimore Street, even in the off season, was extremely loud. Loud trucks drive by at all hours of the night, so stay away from the Salome Myers and Elizabeth Thorn rooms if you're light sleeper. Also the second "B" in B&B should have asterisks - rather than full sit down breakfast, it's more of a continental breakfast, with assorted bagels and muffins, a Keurig with coffee and tea, and cereal. I actually preferred this lighter option, as I prefer to focus on lunch and dinner in town, but if you're expecting a large hot breakfast you will be disappointed. A few other things to note - not all rooms have a TV. The upstairs has a small communal TV room, but only the Hettie Schriver, Lydia Leister, and I believe the Fannie Buehler rooms have TVs. Parking is directly behind the hotel in a simple gravel lot. If you're jumpy or creeped out by ghosts, the place is apparently haunted, although my girlfriend and I experienced nothing paranormal during our two nights. It may sound like fun to be in a haunted house, until you realize that because it's so quiet inside every creak and pop is magnified tenfold. The internet is painfully slow, but there is an Xfinity hotspot available if you have Comcast cable that is much quicker (log in using your username and password). OVerall, we had a great stay at Tillie Pierce, and we would be inclined to come again (and stay in a room away from the street). read more

This is definitely NOT a Bed & Breakfast establishment. There is no friendly informative inn keeper on site, and the breakfast is not what is expected from a B&B. We booked the "Fannie Buehler Grand Suite" which the website describes as, "Large suite includes king bed, queen sofa sleeper, kitchenette, private balcony". There is NO queen sofa sleeper. Instead of what is promised, and pictured on the website, you get a very uncomfortable single futon. Since we booked this suite for two couples, we were very disappointed. When we inquired about the queen bed the attendant did provide us with a rollaway twin bed which, when opened, blocked our exit to the back yard/parking area. My husband and I were fortunate enough to get the comfy king size bed. Our friends, not so fortunate. They may not be our friends after this stay. Just kidding-they still love us. I think? Be aware that the two sleeping areas are a few steps apart and there is no divider, wall, or door between the two areas. It's a good thing we are good friends with the couple we shared this place with; Could have been even more awkward. The suite does include a separate room with a Keurig, tiny fridge, microwave, and small table with three chairs. The bathroom has a shower stall, sink and toilet. Towels were provided. Bring your own hair drier. The "private balcony" is a walkway. There was a dirty table and chairs with a broken umbrella in the backyard adjacent to the parking area. The armoire next to the king size bed does have a small television. The website promised WiFi, but we were not provided any information and could not connect to any WiFi. The "breakfast" portion is not what I expect when staying at a B&B. Instead, it consisted of expired milk and expired-tasting orange juice, Giant Grocery brand coffee to use with the Keurig, store-bought cookies, muffins and bagels (which were wrapped in plastic and had been sitting out since we arrived the afternoon before). The most appetizing-looking item was a plate of cut up oranges that were wrapped in plastic in the tiny fridge. We passed on what was provided and walked a couple of blocks to Christine's Cafe and had a great breakfast. Parking is typical of in-town lodging-double parked behind the building. All of that said, the inn is quiet and clean and is in a great location convenient to many bars, restaurants and shops. read more

The atmosphere is nice the furnishings are nice. but the comfort of our bed was absolutely horrible. I felt like I was lying on a board. Some of you may not mind that but my comfort and good nights sleep is important to me. Its okay to keep the old look with old furnishings but you might want to upgrade your mattresses.Its also very unsanitary to keep your mattresses past a few years with the amount of people coming through. Also there will be none on site after 5p.m. There was coffee and teas but there was only a Mr.Coffee to make it and to make a whole pot of water for one cup is sort of a pain so I declined. A keurig would have made it easier. These are questions I will be asking next time I stay in. Bed in Breakfast. Had a great experience down the road in The Brickhouse Inn and Dobbin House. It would have been a different experience if only the Owner could make some minor changes. read more

This place rocks!! We stayed in the Salome Myers room for three nights and our stay was excellent! The room was nice and clean if a bit small. It's the smallest in the house. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom nice. Once again shower a bit small but not a big deal. The staff were nice and helpful if you needed anything. It's a historical place here during the civil war so you're staying in a place that witnessed the battle!! The namesake for the place wrote a book so check that out. Best of all is location. Everything is within walking distance!!! This place is a must stay! read more

My husband and I stayed here to celebrate our anniversary. Very comfortable and cozy. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast met our needs, and decor was quaint and maintained the Civil War theme (with contemporary comforts). The ghost tour attractions were not our style, but did not at all distract or disturb our getaway. This establishment is a bit different from what I guess would be a traditional bed & breakfast. In terms of the breakfast, there's no "sit down" meal, but rather, a grab-n-go meal featuring bagels, small muffins, cereal, and instant oatmeal (they do mention this on their website, so it's not a shocker). Thus, depending on what you're traveling for will determine your experience. The inn-keeper is only on-site from about 10am to 6pm, if I had to guess. This didn't matter much to me, since I was staying for homecoming at the college, and was out of the room 90% of the time. I stayed in the Tillie Pierce Room. Some thoughts: Pros: - Room was clean, and comfortable. One of our pillows had memory foam, and my husband had a very good night's sleep. - The bathroom was very spacious. There was a stall shower in our room, and we had good water pressure, and temperature. Towels are provided, and replenished every day. They also have a small soap, and a travel shampoo bottle there. - There was a hairdryer in the bathroom (maybe they listened to the other reviews...) - The bed room was heated, but they also had extra blankets in the room. The bathroom was not heated; however, they had a space heater in the bathroom you could utilize in case it got chilly. Cons: - Breakfast was good, but the water situation was interesting. There's an insulated pitcher for what I guess would be hot water, but it was never warm the entire time I was there. You could generate hot water for tea using the keurig machine, but if you were having oatmeal, you'd need to do something creative to get the right consistency. - The wifi instructions were printed assuming you are bringing a laptop, with no explanation for how to access it on the phone. You'll have to ask the inn-keeper how to access it when you arrive. - Door was slightly warped (old house - not a surprise), but it made trying to unlock the door a slight struggle. Overall, my husband and I had a very lovely stay, and we'd be interested in booking here again when we come back to Gettysburg. read more

We booked a one-night stay at the Tillie Pierce for our weekend getaway to Gettysburg. We usually love staying at local, historic bed and breakfasts on our travels. The check in was promising, a charming building in the heart of town. We walked in though, and no one was around, took a few minutes for someone to greet us from the back, and she seemed a little put off by us. Then we discovered that the "breakfast" was just a plain ol' continental breakfast of cereal and cold bagels. We liked the spot though, so we walked into our room and got cozy. We found a journal of previous guests that hinted at paranormal activity in the spot, more of an exciting curiosity than an annoyance. It was the first weekend in June, so it was a little bit hot. After our day in Gettysburg, we returned to a rather stuffy room that didn't get any cooler throughout the night. I certainly understand the desire to leave old historic buildings as they are, but having climate control is just a fundamental of lodging these days. Also, there didn't seem to be any staff members on premise after the normal business hours (9-5) and there was just an emergency number. Needless to say, it got so hot that my wife and I decided to actually spend the night at another hotel. It seems like this is a great spot for paranormal investigators, and that's fine, but if you're staying for any other purpose, it may not be the best choice. read more

Inn was very clean but when we arrived, we were given our key and shown our suite. It does have a king size bed but the other is not a queen but a futon, super single. Not big enough for 2 adults. No wifi access code provided. Breakfast consisted of stale store bought muffins and bagels. Milk and orange juice were expired. Keurig coffee machine and cheap coffee. No cream just powder creamer. When manager was told about the milk, oj, etc. the response was merely 'oh'. Great location to everything but if you're looking for the true B&B experience, this is not the place! If you do choose to stay, make sure you take all toiletries with you, including a hair dryer! read more
