I just spent the weekend in Gettysburg and stayed at The Keystone Inn. The Inn is welcoming, comfortable, cozy, and clean. Food was great and they had everything we needed during our stay. Also check out the scrap book in the library!! We had a wonderful trip! Linda welcomed us with fresh cookies and gave us a great restaurant recommendation. Our room was comfortable, very clean, and had perfect historical charm. The bed was very comfortable. I slept later each morning I was there. We had nice sheets and great pillows. The common spaces also have the same historical charm and provide comfortable places to sit and chat with other guests. We had great weather and explored the city during the days but I noticed the Inn has board games and books, Roku tv, and dvds if you were to get stuck inside. Once again spent the Veterans Day holiday weekend with friends at our beloved Keystone Inn. (This time I stayed in the General Reynolds Room for the first time. I fully recommend the three-floor climb to walk off some calories from the delicious breakfasts!) Speaking of, innkeepers Carrie and Olivia took great care of us. We were even lucky enough to interact with Co-owner Christine Cambell who was also there for the weekend. (If she's there with you, pick her brain!!! She knows everything Gettysburg and is a most gracious hostess.) The property is very well thought out and appointed. While preserving lots of the look and feel of times gone by, it also affords guests with every modern convenience! The Inn is an absolutely gorgeous building, beautifully furnished, and our room (The Basil Biggs Room) had its own balcony and a luxurious king-sized bed and a sofa for sitting and reading. The location is good. The breakfasts were uneven: one outstanding, one pretty awful (a cold Egg McMuffin and cottage cheese?), and one so-so. But perhaps they had a new or temporary cook, because other reviewers did not seem to find this to be the case. We did not find a book in our room with information? Instructions on operating the thermostat would have been helpful, as it got quite cold the third night. Parking is very generous. All in all, we would return, as this was definitely the nicest of the three B&Bs in which I have stayed in Gettysburg. read more

We had the pleasure of staying at The Keystone Inn for two nights recently. The inn is beautiful and very well kept. Tiffany, the inn keeper was friendly and extremely accommodating. She made us feel welcome immediately and was there to offer suggestions about dining, where to purchase local items, etc. Our room was spotless and very comfortable. A plus for use with our room, was a small, outdoor balcony which we happily took advantage of. The common sitting areas were also comfortable and cozy. They had a nice selection of books, dvds, and games. The home cooked breakfasts by Annette and Tiffany were delicious! The bacon and sausage, which is locally sourced, was outstanding! We stayed at the Keystone Inn Bed and Breakfast for a long weekend. We just returned home last night and I wish we had been able to stay a few more days. It is such a lovely Inn and very clean as well. I'm not a clean freak and I'm fine with the occasional cobwebs and errent dust bunnies I often see at other Inns/B&Bs. I didn't see the first one here! Annette and Tiffany are wonderful and make sure you have everything you need. The food is wonderful, from breakfast to the treats they provide. I love that they source as much as possible locally. We stayed on the third floor and our room was the perfect size. It was cozy without being cramped and our private bathroom was across the hall, which was perfectly fine. It is actually larger than the ensuite bathrooms that I saw. It also had a shower in addition to a claw foot tub! It is in walking distance to downtown so we were able to eat and shop without the hassle of parking. I cannot wait to get back for another stay. Charm, comfort and delicious food all abound at this delightful bed and breakfast just 5 blocks from downtown Gettysburg. Our stay was everything we were hoping for and more. The General Early Suite was spacious and homey, with a private bath that included soft towels and a jacuzzi bubble tub/shower combo we loved. The beds were welcoming with soft sheets, great pillows and good lighting. Mark and Marj provided requested information and wonderful service during breakfast and as needed throughout our stay. Mark even hauled my heavy suitcase up to the second floor! The daily dessert after dinner was an unexpected joy. Welcoming, comfortable, delicious breakfasts and warm cookies in the late afternoon. Easy walk to downtown. Inn staff and owner very friendly and helpful. Went for a girls weekend. Our history tour was canceled due to weather. We kept ourselves busy with more foodie/boozy activities and shopping in the quaint downtown shops. There is a lot to do in the area. We went to a winery (Adams County Winery), a brewery (Gearhouse Brewery in Chambersburg), and a hard cider/restaurant (Mela). There was a tv and refrigerator in the room. There were two sitting areas as well as the dining room for gathering together. There is also a carriage house free if you fill the INN or rent the space. read more

With my birthday coming up and cabin fever setting in we decided that a trip to Gettysburg for a quick getaway was in order. It was very last minute, making reservations on Thursday for that Saturday. Together hubby and I looked online to explore hotels and bed and breakfasts in the area. We were looking for something affordable, close to downtown but not close enough that parking was a problem, and most of all in a beautiful house, the kind we dream of owning one day. We also like to stay at b & b's that have multiple common areas so we don't feel cooped up in our room all the time. Keystone Inn fit all of our criteria and then some. Mike, our host, was happy to allow us to check in an hour early. The inn's location was very easy to find, only a few blocks from route 30 and a short drive downtown. While it was the end of January we were greeted by a beautiful home decorated for Christmas. The holiday season was evident in every room, but it was timeless and done very well without being overkill. We choose the Michael Bowers room as we planned on spending a relaxing evening in for the most part. Having a dvd player was a nice perk, something I wish all b & b's had and we brought a movie from home. Once we got there however we found a great stock of movies, books, and games in the library that we ended up watching one of theirs. Our room was a little cold but I liked that we could control the temperature ourselves on both the wall unit and the electric fireplace. The loveseat was also a great place to snuggle up with the throw and enjoy the movie. We brought food and paper plates from home so having the fridge/microwave in the room was very convenient, although I would have loved to find a complimentary bottle of water or two there upon arrival. We also had a balcony and our own second floor exit. It was too cold to sit outside but the grounds are well manicured and surely a lovely sight when in season. Our bed was high and king sized. Hubby loved that he could stretch out. I loved the softness of the sheets and the firm mattress although I will say only finding two flat pillows was a bit of a disappointment (more on that later). There wasn't a spot of dust or dirt anywhere and everything was tastefully decorated but not overloaded or crowded. We had ample room to move around. Our bathroom was small but well equipped. The standup shower was oversize and had two seats. The water was hot and the pressure very good. The bath mat wasn't the best at staying put and absorbing water but it was ok. I only wish the room would have contained white spa robes to complete the experience. Keystone Inn goes out of their way to anticipate what their guests would need. The room binder contained not only information about the inn's policies but about local attractions, as well as menus, a cable guide, and the operating manuals for the tv and dvd players - nice! I especially enjoyed the scrapbook in the library that told the story of the original owners of the house in great detail as well as documented the updates to the grounds. I especially liked that we were given access to roam around. We sat in the parlor enjoying a cup of afternoon coffee before heading out. The dining area had an assortment of teas, fresh coffee, and cocoas out at all times for us to help ourselves. Breakfast is served there in the morning and there's a sign up sheet to pick your time - 8 or 9 am. There's an afternoon pastry served but we missed it, darn! Breakfast in the morning was fabulous! Mike is a very gracious host and an excellent cook. We really enjoyed our conversations with him and the other guests in the morning. The only downfall and reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the pillows. Two were provided on our bed and 1 extra in the closet, all of which were very flat. Hubby and I are used to pillows + shams at home and there's nothing more luxurious than getting cozy in a bed full of fluffy pillows. We both tried numerous ways to make what was available work for us, even adding the throw pillows from the loveseat unto the bed. Nothing seemed to work and sleeping was difficult. Had it been earlier we would have brought this to Mike's attention but it was well after 11pm and we tried to make the best of it. Otherwise our stay was perfect. We both agreed that we'd love to come back again in season to explore more of what Gettysburg has to offer and would stay and recommend Keystone Inn for anyone seeking the same. read more

We visited Gettysburg last week and stayed in the Keystone Inn Bed and Breakfast. This place was absolutely wonderful! Leah, the Innkeeper, was amazing. She called the morning we arrived to check on our ETA and gave us the information on parking, etc. The common rooms were decorated beautifully. Our bedrooms were comfortable and well appointed. We loved the fresh cookies every afternoon--a different flavor each day. Leah knew all of our names within a minute of arriving and learned any requests immediately to keep track of them every day of our stay (such as, we requested a bucket of ice each afternoon). When she found out that I liked to walk every day, she told me about the nearby entrance to the battlefield that had a wonderful historic walk through the woods and fields. Breakfast was delicious, and she was happy to make changes to suit our tastes. My husband doesn't care for omelets, so she gladly fixed perfect soft scrambled eggs for him, instead, Sitting on the large front porch for morning coffee or afternoon cocktails was extremely enjoyable. If we return to Gettysburg, we will definitely stay at the Keystone Inn Bed and Breakfast again. read more

We headed to Gettysburg on New Years Eve day for a three-day getaway. We chose Keystone for several reasons. It's two blocks off of Rt. 30 in a quiet neighborhood. Quiet is very important to me for a good night's sleep. There's nothing worse that ending up with a sleep deficit on a "restful get-away." We took the two room General Greene suite with in suite bathroom on the top floor. The second room is smaller and has a day bed, TV, DVD player, coffeemaker, microwave and small fridge. Having the fridge NOT in the bedroom is important because even though Bette can sleep through it cycling on and off, I can't. She gets up a lot earlier than I do. This smaller room gives her some place to go to exercise, read and hang out where she doesn't have to be so quiet. We arrived and found free off street parking in the rear. The house is a large three story brick structure that has been used as a B&B even before Marge and Mike took it over 5 and a half years ago. Mike was there to greet us and helped carry our bags up to the third floor. The stairway is wide and has a very solid bannister. The house is in great condition and very clean. It was still decorated for Xmas and was lovely. It's been a while since I have been in a house with steam heat radiators. On many of the radiators, they had placed a stainless steel pan filled with water. Our room also had a small electric space heater that was already on to welcome us into our suite. Two comfortable upholstered wingback chairs and table with lamp punctuate the main bedroom with its padded wall to wall carpet. The king-sized bed was very comfortable and linens were soft. Plenty of blankets. In the evening and morning, we'd run the electric heater a bit to take the chill off (It was 10-15 degrees outside) but we had plenty of heat from the radiator in the room to make sleeping comfortable all night long. While I did wake a few times to hear the radiator clank and whistle, it was pretty quiet and I soon fell back asleep. The WiiFi on the third floor was a little buggy, but Mike was quick to get it back on track. I took my lap top down to the main parlor and had no problems there. We filled out a form in the dining room indicating our preferred breakfast time (8 or 9am) and any dietary restrictions. There is a very wide selection of coffee, tea, hot chocolate and water always available in the dining room. They also put out a small plate with tasty cookies and other baked goods under glass. Breakfast was excellent. We started each day with oatmeal; not instant, but the real stuff. They vary the menu each day; adding a egg/cheese casserole one day, pancakes and sausage the next and scrambled eggs and bacon on the third. There was always a sweet bread of some sort, OJ and milk. This is more than we usually eat for breakfast. If you like Civil War Information, they have a study on the second floor with a large bookcase filled with books about the Civil War. They also have easily over a hundred DVD in a wall rack that you can take to your room and watch. There was something distinctly quiet about the place. I mentioned it to Mike and he said the wall of the stairwell had been replastered, making them twice as thick. That and the storm windows make the house feel very solid and very quiet. The bathroom was in excellent shape and the towels and wash cloths were soft and fluffy. I asked Marge how she managed to do that and she said she bought new ones a lot. These were from Sonoma. The must have in-wall water heaters because, even though we were on the third floor, water from the faucets was hot within seconds. The bathroom has nice large mirrors, good lighting, a vent, and places to put things. I'm 6'2". It's not uncommon for me to find that the shower nozzle is mounted below my head, but not here. In our bathroom, I could get under the shower with room to spare. We walked around the neighborhood and even to and from the square in Gettysburg. Our favorite eatery is Cafe Saint Amand, just off the square, (we ate there twice this time) but we also dined at The Inn at Herr's Ridge (for NYE Dinner) and a Sidney Willoughby Run. These places are notably above the level of the diners, pubs and hotel food places. I don't think I've given a 5-star review to anyone, allowing for the possibility of improvement, but I'd have to say that Mike and Marge should get at least 4 and maybe 4 7/8 stars. We will be coming back to the Keystone. read more

Bottom Line: clean, beautiful rooms with all the amenities (fridge, small tv, microwave, nice soap, great sheets), delicious food including afternoon brownies, convenient location four blocks from town center, very friendly and welcoming proprietors, great extras (wifi, library, dvd's, garden, parking), and an excellent deal in the offseason (half off second night). Went up for my birthday weekend and wouldn't have changed a thing! read more

My Husband and I have been staying here twice a year for several years now. We love that they have 2 suites since we like the extra room. The rooms are always clean, the breakfasts are not only good but very filling. Couldn't ask for better customer service from the owners. It is close enough to town to walk most places, and yet far enough from all of the night time noise and activity. My husband loves the history and I am checking off all of the restaurants. My husband and I stayed here on our first trip to Gettysburg on a recommendation made by my uncle who stays at the Keystone everytime he is in Gettysburg. We had never stayed in a B and B before and weren't sure what to expect. It is a house which was built in 1913 and had beautifully maintained. We stayed in the General Johnson room which was cozy and beautiful. The couple who runs the keystone were very friendly and accommodating. They made a wonderful and delicious breakfast every morning complete with coffee cake or muffins, fruit and a main meal. They were always tasty. I loved the keystone for all the homey touches put in to making it comfortable. read more

When we arrived we weren't sure what to think. The parking was a bit to be desired, but it led to a path to the inn, through what looked like a courtyard that was beautiful any other time except in the winter. The owner was amazing! He was extremely friendly. I booked a room with a spa. Little did I know we were going to be in the largest room of the Inn. For the price paid, it was especially nice. The rooms were beautifully decorated, and the bed was very comfortable. If you're coming to Gettysburg, this bed and breakfast is worth the checking out! I will come again! read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Keystone Inn this last weekend, and we were both very pleased with our visit. The house is warmly decorated and everything was very clean. We both have allergy issues, so I was concerned when I saw a large amount of Boyd's Bears used in the decor, as stuffed animals tend to equate dust in my mind. Neither of us had any problems though, so the proprietors mus be very vigilant. The bathroom was immaculate. It appears that the owners are in the process of doing some renovation, but it did not interfere or effect our stay in any way. There are lots of wonderful extras to be enjoyed.: free wifi, coffee, tea, coco, brownies. There are also so very nice touches, for instance, our bathroom towels matched the decor as opposed to being sterile white. While maybe not the most practical thing to do, I thought it really added to the homey ambiance. Breakfast was hearty and tasty. The ONLY issue (and it will be a matter of personal taste) was that the mattress was very soft. read more

Our first time here and hopefully we will get the chance to return. Such a beautiful and peaceful retreat - full of charm and decorated with whimsy. We were promptly greeted when we arrived and felt more like out of town guests than customers. We headed out quickly to attend an event but were surprised and delighted to return to a plate of fresh baked frosted brownies and hot chocolate. Our room was well appointed and immaculate with both a fridge, tv and oh-so-comfy robes. Our room shared a bath but we never encountered anyone elseon our floor. It felt like our own private retreat. Breakfast was a nice mix of respectful privacy and interesting chats with the owners. While we were not the only guests there, we certainly felt as if we were :) Thanks! read more

This B&B is in a great location-only about 4 blocks away from the attractions. The rooms are lovely and clean. I stayed in General Johnson's Room and I loved it-enough room for my husband and I. Clean linen-you could even smell the linens were just cleaned. Our own private bathroom outside of the room across the hall very clean and private. The owners are very friendly. The breakfast was good enough to get you going for the day. It was a nice quiet escape from the center of the town. I would definitely stay there again. read more
