The occasion of having to come in contact with a mortuary is usually an unpleasant one but, working with the staff at Tillman Riverside Mortuary was so emotionally calm and peaceful. Tillman Mortuary was recommended to us and given the circumstances, we were not disappointed. My grandmother passed away unexpectedly and Mrs. Loreine went above and beyond to ensure we had all of the information and resources available to plan the funeral service. Her kindness and compassion really helped my mother and I as we made decisions following my grandmother's death. Mrs. Loreine was very responsive and attentive to our requests. They handled our family with extreme care and dignity, and I could not have asked for better service and pricing and hand holding during the most difficult time of my life. My mother passed 2/16/21 and I made the cremation arrangements on 2/15/21. Covid really did a number with how long the process took. I did call once to check on if my mom was in the process of going to the crematorium and I was nicely told in so many words, don't call us, we'll call you. That did make me feel away of course however, I waited for a call that never came until my mom was ready to be picked up. We went today, 4/21/21 to pick up my moms remains and she wasn't in her urn that we took to the mortuary a month or so prior to her being cremated. My mom was in a square box that I assume was there container (that I'm unsure of) however, I did tell the gentlemen that was helping me in that moment that my mother has an urn. He went to the back, came back with urn and grabbed her remains, went to the hall (couldn't be seen), I could hear him opening the box she was in, taking the lid off the urn and it was triggering to say the least. Now, I understand that things happen however, somethings should not happen and especially when this is what you do all day. The person that I dealt with from the start was not seen and she clearly didn't follow up on taking care of my mother because if she had, my mother would have been in her urn and I wouldn't have had to see her in a box. DO NOT USE Tillman if you have a loved one who has passed related to COVID-19. My family and I made that mistake and it led us on a journey of heavy emotional strain and additional financial burden. When first learning of my grandmother's passing, I immediately called Tillman. We had used them for my father and my uncle's funeral arrangements in the past and had had a decent experience. I spoke with Nate from Tillman to arrange pickup of my grandma's body and informed him my grandmother had passed due to complications related to COVID-19. There were no issues presented then and no constraints expressed related to funeral arrangements. The next two days I coordinated with Ashlynne (Tillman Funeral Counselor) to setup arrangements. She informed me we could have a viewing and offered a package where it was included. On Monday evening she inquired when I would like the viewing so she could finalize the details in the contract she would later send me that day.  A viewing was the most important part to my mom, my sisters, my cousin and I. The chance to celebrate my grandma and say a proper goodbye. To not have the last image of her being laid alone at a nursing home only to see her through a window.  That is why I was so disturbed when I received the draft contract from Tillman that night and it said 'NO VIEWING' and had a note that said the Owner was not allowing viewings for COVID-19 patients. I made multiple suggestions in hopes to find a compromise that would allow us to finalize the contract with Tillman. The first suggestion being partnering with another mortuary or facility that would allow viewings. I thought Tillman could pull this off with their connections in the industry. Ashlynne shot down every single one of ideas (except one) and didn't look for or offer a counter solution except that my family could have a closed casket viewing at their facility (aka stare at a box for an hour). We ultimately made the decision to switch mortuaries after several incidents. 1)  Their staff is not trained or informed of the Owner's policies on COVID-19 and misled me several times about being able to have a viewing. 2) Ashlynne offered no help to find solutions that would allow my family a proper goodbye to my grandma via a viewing. 3) No apology from the funeral counselor or the Owner for the emotional and financial distress they caused my family (had to fork out $1,200 extra out of pocket). Instead of grieving, I had to spend all day calling mortuaries to find one that would help my family. 4) They lied to me and tried to charge me for an embalming that had not been completed. I am in no way faulting Tillman for making the decision not to hold open casket viewings for COVID-19 diagnosed persons. I too am black and have read the statistics on how COVID-19, like many other diseases is disproportionately affecting our people. However, that's no excuse for the mistreatment I received. They are in an industry where people come to them in pain and grieving, so it is their duty to make sure their customers feel cared for and treated with respect. Looking holistically at the situation, I felt I did not receive respectable treatment and will no longer be utilizing Tillman for services. read more

I have nothing but good thing to say about this company. From my first phone call, to my dad's service, to my last phone call. I was told about this Mortuary through a stranger. The stranger was listen to the VA Family Counselor give my family and I directions on what steps we must take next. I was unfamiliar with mortuaries in Riverside CA. By the time I called Tillman Riverside Mortuary, Ms. Ashlynn answered the phone call and put my mind at ease. She gave me detail information for my dad's service. I had a LOT of questions and she answered them all right away. My family was informed when he was picked up from the VA hospital, when he was ready for viewing. Whenever I emailed Ashlynn, she respond with in 24 hours or less. The day of the service for my dad, my family was blown away by how professional Ashlynn and Marc were. Ashlynn and Marc were the directors in charged. Both Ashlynn and Marc attended to my every need and question at my dad's service. My dad is interim at the National VA Cemetery in Riverside CA. I was clueless of what I can or can not do at the Cemetery. Ashlynn was there to answer all of my questions and provided me with a phone number to the Cemetery. I didn't have to ask her for the phone number, she provided it to me. Ashlynn left no stone unturned. Mother who is up in age and has dealt with several mortuaries in the pass, said she was so over joyed with Tillman services and wish they would consider opening in the Los Angeles area. At first, I had other arrangements in mind for myself upon my death. I thought that funerals would cost way too much money and be so much trouble for my family to endure. I thought that mortuaries and cemeteries were out to capitalize on the poor souls who lost their loved ones, so I said "uh-uh! not me! Ashlyn, You failed to mention that the measurements for the casket photo were the exact measurements you provided me with. As far as my daughters visit to the mortuary was solely to view my father's body but even though they were there to view my father's body they still confirmed that the ceremony was going forward as we planned but I don't have to speak on behalf of them because they both are grown women so I will let them do that themselves. The were also disappointed in the way Tillmans mortuary laid there grandfather to rest. Also, as far as being upfront and honest about his policy I was left an envelope to give mortuary. I wouldn't know a policy from a letter. This is why I kept asking when I was able to talk to you if you were able to verify benefits and you kept telling us you had confirmed. My husband had also reached out to you to make sure benefits on policies were verified and that everything was good and it was you who was not honest by saying yes it was confirmed until you really decided to do your job and check. Ashlyn you see it was you who was rude, unprofessional , quick to blame others for your shortcomings and not truthful. The only thing that I found that you were honest about in your response was your name was Ashlyn Tillman or is it? Despite the heartbreak we experienced in losing my mother, Tillman handled her preparation and funeral service expertly and as consummate professionals. My mother looked just like herself and it was clear she was happily resting in peace. We were pleased beyond measure- from the first phone call to inquire about their services as compared to other providers to the conclusion of the service and follow up estate documents. Jonathan from Tillman was simply amazing. I was referred to him, even though I reside in Lakewood, Ca and the mortuary is in Riverside, Ca. He promptly came and took my mom, set up an appointment to go over arrangements, and prepared her body. Jonathan Did an amazing job with preparing my mother's body. Her color was just as it was before she passed away. She looked like she was asleep. I know people say this, but she truly looked asleep. Dinae did my moms make up, nails, and hair. She was gorgeous! She literally didn't look like she had passed away. I've never seen anyone look so good at a viewing and funeral. The "throw" blanket of my mother as well as her programs were top of the line. The drivers, Sharon and Juanita, handled our family as if we were their own. They even had food prepared for our family after our viewing was done. One of the worst experiences I've had in a very long time , on top of losing my mother. I was lied to several times through out my dealing with them. I've never seen such unprofessional behavior from a business ,period. These people simply don't care and it shows by their actions. I want everyone to know how bad these people handled my loved ones passing. I wish I would have known before I let them pick up my loved one and basically held the body for an extended time for no good reason other than have an excuse for the extra charge. Lied to me about the body being sent to the crematorium lied to me about paperwork with the doctors. Never one time did the owner or anyone other than the person I was speaking with initially contact me after having all these issues. It got so bad I had to go myself to pick up my mothers ashes personal because they were lying and being unreliable. I had services and a celebration of life scheduled Monday and I was barely able to get ashes Saturday morning prior. Had to buy my own urn which should of been covered But did they even offer and money back to make up for their mistakes? Basically wouldn't let me get my mother ashes from the crematorium till I was pay in full. What a bunch of lying pieces of crap. Messed up the death certificate and I had to get that straightened out. I bought 7 and the certificates that were wrong so I had to get it corrected and pay for 7 more. They never not once called after either to even see how my services went after they caused all the grief and stress. After reading this review I hope you wouldn't even consider going to them. There not many places not business, that can compare with the level of service that I received, when she says she got you, it's truth because she has the spirit of Christ through her. I will share this, I needed a guest book for the upcoming services, and when I brought it, she said I told you I got you, she already had one for me, I was in tears, because when people say they have you, they don't always do.
