Very unfriendly policies. New patients beware: if you cancel more than once within 24 hours of your scheduled apt in a year you get put on a same day scheduling list. I ran into this recently with having to choose that or an emergency visit for my wife. Between that and a very unsympathetic scheduler I chose option C and cancelled everything and scheduled an appointment with different family ran office. The lack of understanding and rigidity regarding their very unfriendly policy was awful. I'll never go back and recommend that others do the same. read more

I have been to Timber Dental Bethany for both cleaning and for work to repair a crown. The crown was rather challenging, needing to be smoothed all the way down to the gum level. That was almost a year ago, and I have had no problems with it since, with smooth flossing. I have always found the staff to be friendly and professional. When I started at Timber 4 years ago I was very happy with them. But then I noticed a steep drop off in quality about the time that they started spawning multiple offices across the PDX area. A couple of years ago they told me I need ed a crown on my back bottom molar. Before we did that, they sold me a night guard for my bottom teeth (in a grinder). When they put in the crown, the dentist couldn't get it to sit correctly. He kept pulling it out and adjusting and putting it back in and it didn't work. He finally said this is the best we've got. And sealed it on. Of course, my night guard then didn't fit me correctly. So I came back in and the dentist took out what I swear was a file and started digging away at the night guard. He kept putting it in and asking if was comfortable again and again until eventually, he said (you guessed it) that's the best we can do. Fast forward to a little over a month ago. I come in because that tooth with the crown is still a problem. It's painfully sensitive to heat and cold. Dentist starts tapping away on my teeth and when I say the tapping doesn't hurt, he says you've got to go to a specialist. He spent approximately five minutes worth of time with me. The root canal specialist he referred me to couldn't see me for a month. I'm now a week out from that visit and my crown just fell off. It's full of decay and grossness. I don't want to go back to Timber. I have to travel for business this week. I am at a loss as to what to do. I guess I will try to get an emergency appointment somewhere else. In Summary, I think Timber sold out, tried to stand up as many offices as they could, and put $ before commitment to patient care. Also, their staff changes alarmingly quickly. read more

It's clear that Timber Dental cares more about the transaction than they do their patients. To say I had a poor experience would be an understatement after my new patient visit. I was called ahead of time to see if I could come earlier but due to my schedule I couldn't change the time, which they were happy to still accommodate. A few hours later without any notice, I received a text confirmation that my appointment was moved any way. On my appointment day, I made sure I was 15m early to fill out new patient documents before my appointment. Right as I finished page 2, my name was called to begin my appointment. They promptly sat me down and prepared station for my cleaning. The hygienist did not review any papers or ask me a single question about my dental history, or consider any concerns before beginning. It was clear that money was all that mattered and the patient experience is least priority. The hygienist sped through what felt like a 15m cleaning and then said they were done. Shortly after this was x-rays, I had asked about my transferred dental history from a prior practice that was fairly recent but was told that it's best to "take advantage of my benefits", it became really clear to me that they just wanted to bill insurance for anything and everything. I pushed back heavily and said that unless it's absolutely necessary, I'd politely decline. They pushed any way and said it would be in my best interest to get them done. I finally made a dental exam after a year and a half break due to COVID. The appointment was so easy to set up and i was able to send them all my dental records & insurance info beforehand. After I got there for my routine cleaning, I found that I had tiny cavities in the deep grooves of my molars. They show you everything with videos and photographs of your teeth, and explain what you're seeing so you're on the same page about what work you may need to get done. It was crazy seeing the cavities myself! I've never had cavities before so I was a little anxious about the fillings. However, they were really quick with it and went over my insurance coverage and payment options in depth. I honestly have no idea how they were so fast in figuring it all out! I appreciate the transparency and that they didn't pressure me to accept these procedures, though I did end up doing the recommendations as I felt they were necessary. I had virtually no wait in between my spontaneous fillings appointment and was able to finish both my scheduled cleaning & extra dental procedures within two hours. The staff are so kind and welcoming. Love that I was able to watch my Netflix cooking show the entire time too. I had a great experience. Really professional! Fortunately I haven't had to write this kind of review until now. I have wanted veneers on my 4 front top teeth for at least the last 5 yrs. A little back story is that I chipped the 2 teeth beside my front ones when I was around 10 yo,I threw a ball that bounced back and landed under my chin. I finally decided to go with Timber dental, loved my provider who did an excellent job and they look great. Unfortunately she is no longer employed with them and after eating a few meals it became a little painful because one of my bottom front teeth was colliding(grinding)with one of my top front teeth. I called on Tuesday, was told to come in Friday. I came in Friday, my Dentist wasn't available but the staff said I could see another provider. The staff escorted me to the dental chair and I could hear the provider in the hall complaining about seeing me....she's gonna come back over and over for everything and I don't want to deal with this, not verbatim but you get the gist. The dental assistant comes back in and says provider, who is an owner of the practice, doesn't feel comfortable treating me but is going to come in and speak to me....nope, I'm good. My personal background is that I'm an RN and have worked with Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons at University of Alabama and OHSU with over 1O yrs experience. I asked for contact info for my provider that had changed practice, assured they would text me and got ghosted. This is the strangest most unprofessional experience I've ever had and I don't want anyone else to go thru this possibly thinking it's normal. I do feel like for cleanings they're fine but I won't be going back. I'll be looking for someone to help file down a little bulk behind my front tooth. :)-Sharon read more

I am a new patient of 1 year at Timber Dental. First appointment was November 26, 2024 as a new patient visit and dental hygiene with Lexy C. The appointment was good, no issues. Returned for my regular hygiene appointment, May 28, 2025, again with Lexy C. Total mistake! Timber Dental has implemented "accelerated hygiene". An assistant took me to a dental suite, took my blood pressure (totally wrong and I mentioned this), handed me a pair of sunglasses, started to put on gloves and said "she was going to polish my teeth". I said "I haven't seen the hygienist or the dentist yet and I prefer to have my teeth polished after the hygienist does her job". The assistant walked out of the room, then Dr. Chen came in, did the briefest exam I have ever had, no oral cancer screen, told me I had a broken filling that need replaced (I was the one that said "so a crown" and he said usually and left. Lexy C. came in did a brief scrapping, said I had very clean teeth, polished, made a note in my chart to polish afterward on next apppointment. No big deal. Went to schedule my 6 month exam with the receptionist, she asked about the polishing after, I said yes. She walked to the rear office, an another individual, Ashley, came out and said since I wasn't happy, "maybe we should part ways". I was shocked at the tone and way she was speaking to me. Ashley told me "she had been trained by higher management and this was the decision". I had NO ISSUE at that point. I have been having hygiene appointments for 50+ years. Not one time did any of the staff, other than Lexy C. after I specifically asked, explain "an accelerated hygiene appointment " or what it was! I am fully aware of great dental practices. I was so stunned to be treated this way, I had to laugh. Timber Dental just lost TWO VERY GOOD PATIENTS. We thought Dr. Chen was okay too!! From the beginning, scheduling was a breeze and all the staff members I interacted with were kind, compassionate, and respectful. I interacted directly with Brianna and Erin through text, and spoke with Philip face to face. I was struck by how quickly the clinic got back to me both when I was trying to schedule my initial emergency appointment and when I contacted them the following day to let them know I was in a lot of pain. Brianna and Erin, thank you for answering me so promptly. Even though it was just through text message, I felt that you were so friendly and kind. Philip was so nice and guided me through the process of having a referral to another clinic, and explained the confusing insurance-y bits to me. He told me, "No question is a dumb question," when I said I had a dumb question to ask, and I felt like he genuinely believed that. He was very knowledgeable and efficient and at no point did I feel rushed or stressed while talking with him. He made me feel listened to and supported, which I'm honestly not familiar with experiencing in a dental clinic. Thank you, Philip! I really hope that you have a lovely day and that you know you're great. Emmy was the assistant during my appointment. She had to listen to my weird dental backstory and was so attentive and nice. She spoke very kindly and gently to me the entire time, and when she was taking my dental radiographs, I felt that she genuinely understood and felt bad that I had to bite down with the tooth that was aching. Her compassion meant a lot to me. Even though I know she must see so many patients every day, she took the time to reassure me and explain the process. Emmy, thank you so much! I really appreciate how you took so much care to make sure I understood and was comfortable with every step of what was going on. I hope you know that your hard work is valued and doesn't go unnoticed. Dr. Sarah Kolander was my dentist, and she was so compassionate when I spoke to her about having dentophobia and being very uncomfortable at the dentist. She is funny and warm and kind and got me to laugh and relax (albeit an infinitesimal amount) before the actual exam. I appreciated that she checked in so often and explained each process carefully. She broke bad news to me in the nicest possible way and I felt that she actually cared and was sad to have to deliver it. She was so informative but explained each step in a way that wasn't overwhelming for me. Dr. Kolander, I really appreciate everything you've done, and I appreciate your nonjudgmental and empathetic way of answering questions and gathering information. Terrible; avoid at all costs. I have never left a negative review on Yelp but I would give zero stars if possible. My family has been with Timber Dental for over four years. The first two years were fine. However, since then they operate unprofessionally and the left hand doesn't talk to the right hand. They have repeatedly bungled billing issues for our account. You get quoted one amount for a service but then owing a different amount. I have spent hours on the phone with customer service reps and then assistant managers who promise to get resolution and loop back. However, NO ONE EVER follows through. This includes assistant managers Hannah and Cole. It is beyond frustrating as a customer and unbelievable that you can continue to run a business this way. In the past few years you also never see the same dentist or hygienist twice. I have a feeling turnover is high. The last two hygienists I've had were incredibly junior and had to be supervised/corrected by more senior ones because they were doing parts of the cleaning unsuccessfully or flat out did not know what to do. One service rep mentioned to me that some of the billing staff was inexperienced; it shows! It also feels like some of their services are an upsell. We have never been recommended this many treatments at any other dentist. I have repeatedly given them the benefit of the doubt but it's obvious they just don't care. We are moving to a different dentist and it can't happen soon enough. read more

They really bad with answering phone calls when i had issues with my billing. They kept on sending the bills even after i paid the bills and when called them to sort out they never picked up the phone. Not only about the office related matters, but they have cancelled my appointment couple of hours before my actual appointment and they never cared to reschedule it and when i tried to call them for the next available slot, they never picked up their phone. I have scheduled 2 appointments in 2023 at this center using their website only to show up both times to find that my appointment had been randomly removed from their calendar with no explanation as to when it was removed, by whom, or why. The first time I can understand is a fluke but happening two consecutive appointments means this center has some systemic problems. Either their website is poorly designed and doesn't actually book appointments properly or their staff is inadequately trained and doesn't know how to manage calendars. Either way, very disappointed with how poorly administered the Bethany Timber Dental office is. I'm sure they have fine dentists and hygienists but their appointment management process needs to be heavily improved. read more

It was my first time visiting Timber Dental Bethany and my experience was excellent. Top notch service from booking an appointment, checking in at the reception and getting my routine dental check up. All the people I interacted with was very accommodating and kind. Hope the Patient Care Coordinator was very cheerful and sweet. Nicole my Hygienist was awesome, she was patiently explaining to me every bit of the procedure that she was doing and she made me very comfortable during the process. Let me start off by saying I feel really bad giving this place a bad review. The staff and dentist are all super-friendly, and the facilities are state-of-the-art. However, when you see a health professional, what really matters is the quality of care you receive. While I feel the dentist really tried her best, I was left lacking confidence in her knowledge and abilities. I saw her for placement of a crown, and on several occasions, she didn't even have the proper equipment to perform the procedures. How does that even happen?!? This wasn't just one time; it was multiple times. I had many problems with the crown. I had pain which never went away. When she first applied the crown, she crushed my gum so tight I'm thinking "how is this possibly going to heal properly?" (I'm a surgeon, so I know a thing or two about tissue healing.) Sure enough, she had to remove the crown to discover a significant amount of inflammation. I went through this removal/reseating process multiple times, and she even shaved down the crown at one point. (When I told my dental implant surgeon that she did that, she gave me a look like "are you kidding me?") Another sign of her lack of confidence was that she often looked to her dental assistant to make clinical decisions for her. Not a good sign. I never understood their billing process. I ended up with a final bill of several hundred dollars (after already shelling out thousands for the crown), and I asked for copies of my billing statement. I couldn't make heads or tails of it. I finally just paid it out of frustration. My final gripe is that they applied sealant to multiple "microcavities" (I don't know if that's an actual term). I later found out that my insurance didn't cover it; it's a pediatric procedure. It left me wondering: (a) why didn't they tell me my insurance wouldn't cover it before doing the procedures? And (b) why are they performing pediatric procedures on my teeth. As I said, I feel kinda bad posting this negative review. I really liked the people there and the facilities were amazing. Worst dental experience of my life. I went in for a checkup - new patient. Dr. Gerritz told me my upper back tooth was cracked and would need a crown. It wasn't bothering me at all. To start, the injection to numb my mouth was so long and so painful - it bruised the outside of my face and I had an external bruise on my cheek for 10 days I had to explain to everyone. While my mouth was numb, he drilled into my cheek which caused me to have to rinse with antibiotic rinse for 2 weeks (feels awesome with a sensitive tooth). The temporary crown he put on lasted not even 24 hours - it fell off while I was chewing on the other side. So, now I had an exposed tooth/nerve, no crown and the only solution I was given was to go back in/face the same dentist that bruised and drilled into me and have him make me another temporary crown. So, I had to wait a full 7 days - with an exposed raw tooth - because the solution they gave me was to trust the same doctor I wasn't going anywhere near. So I had to wait for another dentist. After 7 painful days, my crown was ready and another dentist put it on. I wasn't going to write this review but it's been 7 weeks now - the crown did not heal well, it doesn't fit and it is very sensitive. I was in zero pain when I walked into this place and now I'm in pain every day. I am now looking for a dentist to fix what Timber Dental broke and I will vet my new dentist very carefully this time. AVOID this place. read more

To start - the place is lovely, the reception and technicians are very nice and welcoming. The place is clean and in a nice location. However, I've had a horrible experience with both dentist and billing. I went for a consult and a filling, and was made to pay for both procedures out of pocket before leaving the consult. It totaled around 900 dollars. I have NEVER had to do this at another dentist, and being a broke college student this was a big deal. I was unsure and very uncomfortable; it seemed like a pressure tactic. But they assured me it was standard (spoiler: it isn't) and I would get back whatever the insurance paid once the claim is processed. Okay.. except they never filed a claim. I had to call, repeatedly, for six! entire! months! to get them to actually do their job. First they said the claim was filed, it just needed time to process. Then, oh the claim never got filed, we'll do it now. These things take time you just need to be patient. It took over six months when it should have taken a few weeks, tops. I could tell they were getting tired of my calls, but the constantly changing answers and condescending attitude? That's a yikes from me. Also, Dr. Gerritz was shaking the entire time he was doing my filling, like his hands were not steady at all to the point where I was worried if he was OK. He didn't seem confident in any of the answers to my questions. The procedure itself was unusually painful. I ended up with a massive bruise covering the whole side of my face, and it was purple for two weeks. All in all, I don't think I'll be going back. read more

I was very impressed with my first visit here. The facility is clean and modern. Mariko the receptionist was very friendly. Dani was my hygienist and I felt she did a very thorough job. She was patient with me while I picked out a Netflix show to watch during my cleaning (awesome). I'm really enjoying my whitening kit, which although took several attempts to create the trays correctly was well worth it. My husband and I each had the initial new patient exam which involved the standard imaging and cleanings in September 2018. Upon that first visit we were both told that we had cavities that of course needed to be taken care of. At that initial visit I asked how can there be so many things wrong with my teeth when I have been going to the dentist every 6 months for as long as I can remember and nobody said that I had all of these issues. I was just stared at blankly. My husband and I both thought it was strange and that they were on the pushy side of care but we decided to move forward with the next appointment. When I checked out of my initial cleaning appointment they asked me to pay for the upcoming services that were a week away. I declined saying that I would pay in full at time of service, the front desk person pushed back a little saying that they like to collect upfront. That may be true but I was unwilling to pay so she reluctantly agreed to accept payment at time of service. While I waited in the lobby I saw them pressuring other patients to make hefty upfront payments for crowns, root canals, etc. that were scheduled months in advance of the service date. Patients were visibly uncomfortable and the one gentleman was like I am going on vacation and don't have extra money at the time. The front desk was like can you pay $250 or any other amount. It was uncomfortable to watch and even more uncomfortable because I also was asked to prepay for care. I eventually was called back, received the dental care we had planned on, paid in full and left. The next day I was not able to floss any of the areas that they did work and I had to come back the next day for the dentist to work on those areas so that I could floss. My husband had the same experience with asking to prepay for services and I had warned him before he went that he did not have to prepay nearly 2 months in advance. Fast forward to our second cleaning appointment in March 2019 where they are pointing out more areas of concern that they have and are pushing orthodontists consults, braces, electric toothbrushes, etc. The dentist was telling me how I am not old and should do it. Okay lady, I just want a cleaning and to get out of here after an almost hour long cleaning visit. So now to the checkout process...I am told that I have a $57 dollar credit with the office and that my insurance paid more than originally thought. I said okay were you going to issue the refund? Her response was yeah if you did not come back we would have but we can also just leave the credit on your account. To which I said it has been 6 months when would be a good time or what would have been the threshold of not coming back? She did not answer and told me that she will issue a refund. Great, done and done (this was on a Friday). My husband then has his appointment scheduled for that Monday. He goes and comes home an hour later and tells me a story that made my head explode. He tells me that at checkout, Charlie tells him he has a balance of 20 CENTS. Not $20 dollars but 2 whole dimes. He offers to pay with a $20 bill which is all that he has in his wallet, she declines saying she cannot make change. He offers to pay on our credit card and she declines saying that she doesn't/can't run 20 cents. My husband asked if the 20 cents could be written off and she said no. He said they were just kind of staring at one another and he said did you want me to go to that car and see if I can find 20 cents and she said....YES! Are you flipping kidding me? You are making a grown man go to his car to find 2 dimes when you have literally been holding on to FIFTY SEVEN dollars of my money for over 6 months?!?!? I could not believe what he was telling me and I truly could not believe that he actually went out to the car, collected some change and brought it back into the office. I immediately called the office and spoke to Charlie. I expressed my outrage over the need to collect the 20 cents in the manor that she did. I suggested that maybe in the future instead of strong arming your patients into paying when they have offered 2 other forms of payments that she declined to take, perhaps she could say at your next appointment can you please bring 20 cents to pay off your balance. I ultimately vented for as long as humanly possible and then told her she could cancel all of the appointments that she had for our family and that we would not be returning. It is completely insulting to the patient to be treated this way over 20 cents when our family account had a credit of $57. Our family of 4 will not be returning to Timber Dental over a whopping 20 cents. I will also tell anyone and everyone that is looking for a dentist to avoid this place. This experience has rubbed me the wrong way so much so that I am writing this review. I work in healthcare and spent the first half of my career in billing management. I just started going to Timber Dental and let me just say, I am so impressed! All the staff were extremely kind, welcoming, and comforting. Getting work done on your teeth sucks in general but Timber Dental made the process as enjoyable as possible. Dr. McKay was great and really knew what she was doing! She worked very quickly and did a great job! She saved a questionable cavity from turning into a root canal and that alone has saved me a ton of money. The facility is also very up to date! Maybe it was just because my old dentist was located in a small town but all their equipment seemed extremely modern and clean. Dr. McKay even used a new device that allowed her to work without a dental assistant. It kept my mouth open and dry without the extra person having to sit and hold a suction tool. Best Dentist visit ever!!!!! Wow - I'm so glad I switched from Aspen Dental to Timber Dental, what a huge and amazing difference. Timber Dental is clean, everyone was super friendly, patient, and thorough. The Dentist's assistant was sooo great, she was knowledgeable, helpful and a pleasure to be around. The dentist was the best dentist, hands down, I've ever seen. He answered all my questions, made me feel super comfortable, complemented my teeth and gums, and he took his time with me. What a difference - I felt like I was a VIP, and getting the best care around, it was great. The office is high-tech and earth friendly even too - all the forms were handled on an iPad. I have a medicare advantage plan, if I go to anyone out of network I will have to pay out of network costs on ALL my medical for the year, which makes me vulnerable to 10K dollars on out of pocket costs. So I called Timber at Bethany and asked if the dentist I was to see was in my insurance network plan. I was told he was in network. When I arrived I asked again the confirm the dentist was in network they told me yes he was in plan. When I got the bill my insurance told me he was not in my network plan so I was billed extra, AND I was now in out of network for the rest of the year. I called and they stopped the extra costs but I was still out of network. Then I cancelled my scheduled appointment because I was uncomfortable and felt like I might not be able to trust them. Also, I was given a fluoride treatment that I paid for the day I got the treatment. They billed my insurance for that already paid for treatment, double billing??? I just got a bill for the amount of the extra costs. I was billed because I had cancelled my appointment. I was correct to not trust them. If you are medicare I would be careful and not go to this company. It could cost you a lot of money. read more

My first visit to Timber was earlier this year and I've had two appointments for fillings since then. I'm not exaggerating when I say this by far the best dental office I've ever received treatment from. It is such a comfortable and relaxing environment. Everyone from the front desk to the Dental Assistant and Dr. Marshall were all so nice and welcoming. As far as the treatment itself, I've had a total of 4 fillings done over the last six months. I just have to say, it has been the smoothest most pain free (literally and figuratively) visits to the dentist I've ever had; which includes at least one visit per year for the last 8 years. My three year old son also just had his first dentist appointment today. Doctor Molly and her staff are absolutely amazing. They were all so great with him. Dr. Marshall and her team are all so awesome ! I felt good and still can be able to drive home safely after my appointment for taking my wisdoms teeth and one baby tooth, they made me feel very comfortable. Terrible customer service! Not organized in front office. Scheduled an appointment for cleaning but then was called to reschedule because they didn't have a hygienist available. They weren't able to get me in for almost 2 months! I'm supposed to wait another 2 months for your mistake?!? I don't think so. Lastly, be prepared to be sent another bill. The office staff obviously don't know how to properly verify insurance and give the wrong "estimate" on what you have to pay for the procedure! I would not have received a procedure had I known it was going to cost that much. Do your job! read more

My experience with Timber Dental was truly the best experience I have ever had at a dentist. The ambience of the office feels almost spa like, with a mountainous theme. Mariko at the front desk was so kind and provided excellent customer service. The Dental assistant was Kassi and Sunny and they were kind, knowledgeable and informative. The initial appointment was so informative and it was an open dialog. I learned so much. There equipment was cutting edge. I have never seen so many pictures and X-rays of my mouth. I had to have some unexpected work done and the dentist Dr McKay was the best. She was knowledgeable and gentle. No pain at all. In addition, my family is battling Lyme disease and she was knowledgeable about lyme which is rare and very accommodating about our needs for natural dentistry. I felt very at home at Timber Dental. My 9 year old and my husband went the same day and said exactly what I did! Timber Dental is our new Dental home! Upon arrival, I was immediately checked in and brought back for my exam and cleaning. I can't remember the last time I didn't have to wait at a medical or dental office! The facilities are clean, modern and spacious and the staff is so knowledgeable. Dr. Marshall is hands down the best dentist I've ever been to. I've had a lot of dental work in the past and have a few problem teeth. She is kind, professional, and addressed all of my concerns while involving me in treatment decisions.
