We make it a point to dine at the Timber lodge every trip to Lake Almanor. A very romantic atmosphere and the ambiance gives you such a feeling of being in the mountains with the gorgeous decor. The staff was so attentive and checked in numerous times to make sure everything was perfect with our dinner. Lunch or dinner the food is the best in the area for a great dinner out with my wife. We make it a point to come to the Timer lodge multiple times when we are up at the Lake. Spot on location for a meal. read more

Only been to the "new" Timber House a few times. It was derelict for decades but I was in awe of the place as a child. Walls of massive timber blocks; pillars of reconstructed tree trunks. As a child I knew the smell of smoldering Pall Malls, cheap bourbon, blank (not plank) steak, and sawdust... and I loved it then. Always wanted to see it resurrected, and the new owners/investors surely did! Times ten. It's great. Great bar, great place, great brewery, great outdoor fun (I know nothing of the lodge part). And great people, from locals, to seasonals, to newcomers. There are many opportunities for socializing, whether you're with your kids (very family friendly), with your group of adults, or on your own. I've enjoyed the staff and service. I've really liked the food too!!! I'll be there every time I go to town. PS... the smell of cigarettes and cheap booze are long gone... but the sawdust remains. It's Chester. :) read more

This place was highly recommended by someone we met when we were at our hotel. 25 miles away from Lassen park, but I think it's worth the drive. Every thing we ordered were good. The ahi tuna was perfectly seasoned, my grilled chicken was also good, just a little bit dry to my liking but it's not a big deal. The tiramisu was also good. The clam chowder could have been served a little bit warmer. But, overall everything was good. Server was very helpful and the restaurant was nicely decorated and clean. read more

We got into town pretty late and were so happy this restaurant was right across from where we were staying, not that the town is super big. The restaurant isn't large but just the right size and great ambiance. It seemed it was renovated and looked great. I ordered a 6oz Filet Mignon, and it was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well! My husband had the house wedge, which had a little bit too much blue cheese dressing, and the Grilled Salmon. He really liked both and thought the salmon was grilled very well. The food was filling and tasted very good! We loved the overall feel of the restaurant, the outdoor/log cabin look to it, and the wait staff was very friendly. read more

Finally made it to the "new" Timber House Lodge. My mom, two nieces and myself enjoyed a very nice dinner. We started of with breaded pickles that came with a siracha dip. My mom tried their house light lager and ordered another one. Two of us had Arnold Palmers & the other lemonade. For dinner: Me - Steakhouse burger, minus lettuce and tomato and added sliced jalapeños. The brioche bun held everything together nicely and the burger was a perfect medium, with a side of shoestring fries. All perfectly warm. Niece 1: Steakhouse burger minus tomato. Niece 2: Chicken sandwich with no complaints. Mom: Alaskan cod tacos. It was dressed with mango salsa and cilantro. It took about 1.25 hours from sitting down to getting our meal. The waitress did a great job. 2 beers, lemonade, Arnold Palmers, 2 burgers, chicken sandwich and fish tacos w tax $109. Not bad as all. The owners have done a great job with preserving the inside of the historic restaurant while adding a nice covered and uncovered patio dining. There is corn hole outside and the gift store. The tacos were very good. The chicken sandwich was messy but worth it. Did not like their vodka. Would definitely eat here again.

A great place to escape to when we were wanting a little something different from the Susanville norm. Such a beautiful drive to Chester and once inside, its cozy and delightful with an impressive selection of food and beverages on their menu. The staff were very welcoming and pleased to serve us and the food was ahhh-mazing! Definitely my favorite place now. read more

The battered shrimp was exquisite! It was made with rice flour, so it's gluten-free. It is suggested that it's not celiac safe because they share the same fryer; however, I am celiac myself and did not have discomfort. The artichoke dip has a very nice consistency. The restaurant put just a right amount of each ingredient. It does not taste process and like some places I've been to... aka BJ's. It taste super fresh and you can tell it was made with love and homemade ingredients, which I love! We also ordered a ahi tuna salad. I was genuinely surprised that this tasted so amazing! I'm right by the ocean so typically I'm very picky about my tuna but this place did a very fantastic job selecting tuna. It had a fresh nice taste which I find very rare in towns that aren't minutes away from the ocean. I was pretty full from the appetizers so to go I had the grilled herb chicken which was was very favorable and had good moisture. We arrived during happy hour which is around 3-5 pm. We went there during a quieter time on a weekday and the restaurant was still lively. I've eaten many places around this area before, and was quite shocked to see a decent amount of people on the weekday. It's a very small town so that's not typical, which shows that this place has really good food and customer service. Based from the locals, I heard that this place is very busy on the weekends with fun activities. It's a super cute vibe and they have sand toss out in the grass. They have option to dine inside or outside the restaurants. If you're dining outside, do you have an option to bring a pet on a leash. If you're not an animal lover, you're more than welcome to sit outside at a different area or inside the restaurant. This is very accommodating and friendly. They had cushions on the seats outside and overall the chairs are comfortable and clean. Unfortunately I did not take a picture but the booths inside looked gorgeous and brand new. I'm based in San Diego and something I always enjoy is finding places that do their own brewery. Not only do they do their own brewery, but they also do their own distillery. I find this quite unique ! I myself can't drink beer, but my father went with me and he really enjoyed it and he's super picky! Overall, this is a cute spot to check out especially if you're vacationing or visiting family in the area. I am very particular about going out and usually like to make my own food where I'm staying at. Definitely check this place out! read more

We had an absolutely wonderful time visiting Timber House! Comfortable, cozy, yet upscale vibes welcome you as soon as you open the front door. We were also welcomed by some lovely employee's who were happy to help us even though we didn't have a reservation. We showed up 10minutes before happy hour ended and they did everything in their power to get us some beer and some food prior to it ending, which was so nice. I have been in many places who just ignore you until happy hour ends so they don't have to honor it but not these guys, it really made us feel welcome. I had the Strawberry Blond Ale and my husband had the Mexican Lager and the Porter. We both enjoyed the BEST cheese curds we have ever had and some delicious fried shrimp. We also loved the seared ahi, it tasted so smoky, just perfect. We also had the Cesar Salad with Chicken and it was just what we needed after a long hike! Took home a bottle of Vodka and we can't wait to bring our parents back soon. read more

This is quite possibly the worst restaurant I've ever been to. The food was terrible, barely edible. And they added tip by themselves for two people. They con their own customers. Do not recommend. For two people it was $200. The word tip stands for to ensure promptness. Nothing was prompt. The service was lax, people barely even came by to refill our waters. The prices are absolutely outrageous. Do not waste your time or money. As for ambience, none to be spoken of. Stopped by for lunch, loved the ambiance of the restaurant. They even have lawn games upfront. The host and servers were friendly and attentive. We loved everything that we ordered. Everyone raved about their orders from Smoked Brisket fries, Honey Smoked Brisket Sandwich to Apple Whiskey Pulled Pork Sandwich. Just watched out for the jalapeños, you may want to order it on the side and add to your liking. The Ceasar Salad needed a little more dressing and that was a quickly resolved. We had lunch. I was happy to see it had finally opened. I loved the setting. Very fitting for the area. Service was fair to good. I had the fish n chips. French Fries were very good. Cole slaw was really good after I added a bit of malt vinegar. Fish filet was too thin for my preference. The crusty part of the batter was tasty but the layer between the fish and the crust was gooey and unpalatable. I scraped it off. I informed the waitress but she seemed indifferent. When she took our plates she covered up the uncooked batter. I asked her to please show it to the chef. The skirt was way too short on our waitress. I felt it was not appropriate attire. Timber House Lodge is a convenient spot to stay in Chester. Being right in the middle of town, it's close by to all you might need, and contactless check-in/out makes your in and out a breeze. I recommend giving all the themed rooms a look through as some themes can be a bit more intense than others. I stayed in the Wild Wild West room, which contained a bit more cheetah print than expected (my fault for not reviewing the rooms prior to booking). Room names are handwritten on signs above doors but underneath the roof overhang, so try to arrive when there's still sunlight to avoid creeping around the other rooms with a flashlight after dark. In my opinion, a big reason to choose the lodge is for the brewery next door. There's lots of great food options and service is warm and inviting. Timber House Brewery definitely ranks above any other small motel/hotel restaurant I've been to! read more

We were recently in Chester,CA and visited the Timber House Lodge and the brewery. The Lodge was cute each to had a theme we were in the cowboy room. Our room was clean and had was air conditioned. Cute little patio chairs outside. Across the way was the brewery. We had lunch and dinner there. Friendly service, great food and the drinks were pretty tasty. After we ordered our drinks the host walks over and says "um I don't mean to be rude but we have a lot of people waiting and typically people who get sat are ordering lunch too. We said um okay what is another option if we just want drinks? She pointed to a tiny table near the parking lot in the beating sun lol. We left. Bad vibes and a super rude interaction. Seriously the rudest place ever. It takes forever to get seated and once they do acknowledge you're there they can't accommodate a child with Autism. They said no outside seating even though there was a couple sitting outside with their dog. We explained that our son has a hard time indoors and they said they couldn't accommodate us but they could accommodate the couple with a dog. They have a large outdoor area that couldn't be used. The manager was sitting there on her computer and unable to be bothered to help us. I've eaten here before and last time it took an hour to order and an hour and a half to get our food which was cold. We are visiting the area and this was our first experience eating out in Chester so I have nothing local to compare it to. That said, the cheese curds were delicious and the wedge salad was great! The rest of our food was... meh. Our table ordered brisket sandwiches and fettuccine Alfredo. The sandwich which was alright, those that got regular fries said they were underdone and I paid extra for sweet potato fries which were just awful. The pasta was "ok" according to my daughter. The service was good, mostly very young staff so not the most experienced but they were friendly and accommodating. Fun decor/atmosphere. I don't really know whether to give them a three or a four star. I went there for their soft re-opening and was placed at a tall bar table with three of my friend, I did have a booth, but they called and asked if I would switch to a table not knowing any better I said sure. Well, you can't eat those tables, there was no room we had to put our drinks on the floor, and the food was just OK. I knew this was their soft opening and they were just getting going so I've been back three or four more times so obviously it's not bad. The food was good. The service was great. They have an a couple amazing waitresses, very friendly and pleasant, and they had Jason running the kitchen so the first time wasn't great but the last three times were good, but then I went in there last week. They were shorthanded and doing the best they could and I totally understand that, but I had to send my meal back three times it came out the fourth time and it was almost right, but not quite. All I ordered was a Wagyu burger well done no cheese with bacon. First time it was rare, second time came back with cheese, third time all of a sudden the bacon was gone, fourth time I guess was the charm, but by then my husband was done eating. Their waitress was amazing and did best to try to get the kitchen to get it right, but for some reason, they just seem to have a hard time with it. Then I found out Jason was laid off and it just seems like without him the kitchen just fell apart. So two times not good three times amazing, common denominator Jason. The first time I went he hadn't started and the last time I went, they laid him off. I know they're closed for two months and hopefully they will be smart enough to get him back. He ran an excellent kitchen, and the food was always perfect on his watch. They have great waitresses, the place is really cool but the kitchen needs him. I've decided to give it a four stars since the good out weighed the bad. And I will give another shot when they reopen. read more

My fiance and I recently took a weekend trip from Tahoe to Lake Almanor so we could explore Lassen Volcanic National Park. After doing tons of research on where we should spend our first night in town, we decided the Timber House Lodge was a good option.Turns out, it was better than the Expedia site let on. Check In: No contact check-in! This was so reassuring during Covid-19 times. After we reserved the room online, I received a text message with a door code, and when we arrived we simply entered the unique code to our specific room. You know the exact room you are reserving when you go online. We got the Wild Wild West room. Decor: Absolutely adorable! The rooms look like you just stepped into a room designed by HGTV professionals. Amenities: The room had a spacious mini-fridge, a super comfy bed & mattress, a TV with ALL of the channels (idk if it was satellite, DirecTV, or what... but it had everything), an immaculate shower with a rainfall shower head, a pod-style coffee maker, haridryer, remote-control candles, an electric fireplace... you get the idea! I was also informed that if we needed a microwave, there was one available in the common room, accessible with an access code we received. Location: Located right at the start of the town of Chester, with close access to Lassen, this spot was super convenient. I can't wait to re-visit when the Restaurant and Brewery are open! read more

Restaurant is grossly overpriced. Food is aweful. One of our meals included asparagus. We could not cut it with a knife nor even eat it. Meals were tasteless. When you see on the menu everything is ala cart, then you know the meal will be VERY EXPENSIVE. Also, what restaurant doesn't offer a baked potato with a steak? I really wish we would've remembered our server's name because she was absolutely INCREDIBLE (came here 10/11 around 1:30pm and sat inside). My husband and I each ordered the steak frites and it was delicious! Didn't get a chance to try a cocktail as we were traveling, but would love to next time!
