Let me start by saying I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The room was comfortable. There was a heat pump so we were able to warm the room as the outside temperatures ranged from 46-58 while we were there. We were upgraded to a two bed room. Both beds were firm and the pillows were soft. The water in the shower got really hot which I like. The room was clean and the decor fit the mountain environment. There was a large checker set and a refrigerator. No coffee maker or microwave. The only negatives were the quality of towels and there was no vent in the bathroom. The towels were very thin. They did give you new towels daily if you put them out your door. I felt were received a good value for our money. read more

2025 update: Came back here to stay the night. This time, our room was on the opposite side towards the motel section. Very comfortable beds and spacious room. There was an overflowing bathroom somewhere in the building because we woke up in the morning to a wet bathroom floor. The food in the restaurant was just ok. We got the garden burger and the lodge burger. They had a soup of the day - cream of chicken with wild rice, which I liked. I think I enjoyed the food more last time. Our room also had Chinese checkers board which was cool. Still a good experience overall and I will continue to recommend this lodge if you plan to stay close to Lassen. 2021 review: Very simple rooms but I loved it! This entire establishment (lodge, restaurant, store) is run by the same people and they are incredibly nice! I was really confused about checking in to the lodge late night and the lady at the restaurant was kind enough to direct me to the right gentleman. The gentleman who checked me in, was very sweet, particularly in giving directions to the room. They were also nice enough to allow us to eat at the restaurant even though it had been past their closing time (more on this in the review of the restaurant). The lodge itself reminds me a lot of the lodges back in India. Very simple, overgrown wilderness right outside. A couple of dragon flies entered the room with us and led to an interesting several minutes while I and the bf tried to get them out. Room itself has a bed, some chairs, a checkers cloth board, a little dining area, a small fridge and the restroom. There is a fan for coolness and a heater. The bed is SO SO SO comfortable!! I don't think I've slept so well in quite a while. We had the windows partly open and that, with the fan, was very nice from a temperature standpoint. Charging points are few. There is no wifi or cellular service is very poor. There is no tv so you can get the time away from technology which we loved. Water was nice and hot however the shower was a little small. All in all, we loved staying here and the people. Definitely recommend them for any future stays near Lassen!! Review for the restaurant: The lovely people here have completely biased my review We got to the lodge around 8:30 pm and after checking in, I asked what time the restaurant remained open till. One of the servers said, oh we close at 8 pm, then looked at the clock which showed 8:30 pm and then told me, "we can still seat you, no issues!" Who does that?! Only good people, that's who!! Couldn't thank them enough as we would've had to drive God knows how far to get food! They didn't rush us after seating either. For the dinner, we ordered the trout fillet, the steak with coleslaw, cottage cheese, chicken noodle soup and baked beans as sides and a glass of Chardonnay and IPA from the tap. The food was very good. Nice and homey and delicious. The sides were perfect accompaniments to the main courses. For breakfast the next morning, we ordered the Belgian waffle and the bacon and cheese omelet with country potatoes and a latte. This was also very good, well-made delicious and very filling. The latte was excellent! The prices are not cheap and you may have limited options of vegetarian. All in all, my experience with this family and establishment is a huge positive and I'll recommend it to anyone who comes this way! read more

I spent one night there (9/12/25). Pretty basic mountain lodge room, no WiFi. I wore sweats to bed - it was cold, but not cold enough for me to try the space heater provided. Very quiet at night, and I could see the Milky Way from the back part of the hotel. Good place to sleep if you truly wish to disconnect from the world. I had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant (which is also where I checked in and out for the room). read more

STAY AWAY!!! Don't read the reviews from years ago and be fooled. To be fair, this review covers room 42, but I suspect every room is suspiciously similar. We had a room reserved for two nights based on a recommendation from A friend that told us they had not stayed but were told that the place was old/rustic but clean. SOMEONE LIED TO THEM!!!!! We got checked in just before we need to head out to meet friends for a camping dinner nearby. We didn't even take our bags to the room, just got the key and took off down the road. SHAME ON US FOR THIS ERROR IN JUDGEMENT. When we finally got back to the room, then it all came to light. The rom was DISGUSTING...... smelled with nasty stained old carpet, a heater that didn't work, mold and "filth" in the shower and tile of the bathroom.... Stains on the walls and ceiling (?%?%?) I honestly can't say I have never been that uncomfortable in a room ever, and I am 58 years old and stayed in some questionable places in the past. Well - since it was past 8 PM, there wasn't anyone to see or call, so we had to tough it out for the night. The heat never did come on and we about froze. We decided to sleep on our clothes, I was not about to get under those nasty covers. We woke the next morning, packed our stuff in the car and checked out. All Jim ( crusty old man who apparently owns the place) had to say was "key?" - as he stuck his hand out to get his room key back. No apology, no offer for a refund and no offer for another room. He just wanted his key back. We already paid for the room and have told our friends to NEVER recommend this place to another person again. We were able to get a room at the Holiday - Inn of Red Bluff and salvaged the rest of our Lassen adventure. If you stay at the lodge now, you cannot say you haven't been warned. Good affordable lodge to stay at that's super close to Lassen. We booked a room with 2 twins, 1 queen, and 1 pullout bed (surprisingly wasn't very uncomfortable). The duvets were very warm but we went in late summer. You get what you pay for in the motel style lodge but the proximity to the park is pretty unbeatable. There's a restaurant and general store as part of the lodge, the restaurant has decent classic American diner food - burgers, chicken tenders, and American breakfast. The peach cobbler was non traditional, possibly sheet cake with canned peaches? There's a game room in the back, with plenty of board games to borrow during your stay, along with a pool and foosball table and some old arcade games (need $$). read more

I was a little bummed about how cold this place was. We had to take the blankets off the other beds and put them onto our bed just to stay warm. The mini split heater was not sufficient to keep up. I'm sure that it is very pleasant in the summer as the building is cinder block so it probably stays cool inside. Just wouldn't be my recommendation to stay at during colder months. I know it's been mentioned before but I'll say it for posterity, there is no tv or cell service, so be prepared. On the upside, our room was clean and the place was quiet. Quaint restaurant with good food is right there. I would probably stay here again in the summer to give it another go when it's not so cold. read more

Highly recommend Lassen Mineral Lodge; it's welcoming and truly local. It's a family-run business, both the lodge and the restaurant next door. The rooms are spacious, clean, and quiet. We have been coming here for about 30 years. Remote location. Much less visited than the big attractions like Yellowstone, but has a lot of geothermal activity. Mineral Lodge has always been friendly and cozy. But there has also been significant modernization without changing the rustic character. Example: individual heat pumps for the motel rooms. Excellent food in the restaurant; prepared and served by the younger generation of owners. Great Elk burgers. Oh, and they can pack lunch sandwiches for the trail. Call ahead if you are going to arrive late. read more

Overall, not great, but by golly it has character! To get to your room, you have to carry your bags up a series of fully non-ADA-compliant steps slightly up a hill and well away from the parking lot. Inside, we were encouraged by the lack of air conditioning, given it was about 92 degrees outside. We quickly dragged open the windows and turned on the fan. The bathroom is miniscule, and, lacking a fan, soon reeked my strict diet of beer, beef, and onions. Luckily, there was a tiny window, so people walking behind the room could see through the screen and make eye contact as I was dropping a deuce. There were two fairly large spiders inside the shower, which wasn't ideal, and a fair number of bugs, spider webs, and general debris in the room. Overall, though, I liked my evening a lot. The decor was great, the room was rustic, and it felt rather like being out on the dusty trail in the Old West. Especially without any Wi-Fi. read more

Review of the Lodge Hotel: Check-in service was quick and done at the general store counter. The room had a nice nature theme with stencils on the walls and a pine bower over the bed. They had a cute over-sized checkers set. That was fun since they didn't have a TV, phone or clock radio/alarm! The bed was clean but too firm. The bathroom was stocked but small and narrow. Room price was cheap so it was worth it. Review of the Restaurant: I had dinner consisting of real buffalo burger (tasteless) and salad (tasteless too). The chocolate cake was the best! Because they didn't make it. Dinner service was ok. Then I had breakfast of pancake and eggs. The pancakes were great! Fluffy and yummy. The only problem was service. It took an hour to get the food. Maybe the high altitude made cooking slower. But really? One hour for cook breakfast food? Finally, I ordered a sandwich for my hike. That was great! I had turkey and pepper jack on wheat. They used real turkey slices. Overall menu food and prices were decent. But given they were the only restaurant in town, it could have been worse. No frills motel that is just 9 miles from the south entrance of the park. It was everything we expected and more. We knew there would be no TV or WiFi when we booked. Clean room with comfortable bedding, table with chairs, bedside lamps and sitting chair. Bathroom was also clean and nicely tiled. Water got hot immediately. The rooms must've been updated since previous reviews. Dinner (BBQ ribs with garlic fried Brussels sprouts and baked potato) and breakfast in the restaurant was great! Huge portions and the two servers were very nice. We were even able to order our deli sandwiches during breakfast and they were wrapped and ready to go after we were done. We would highly recommend Lassen Mineral Lodge for a convenient, clean, friendly place to stay. read more

It's not fancy. If you're expecting an urban hotel, look elsewhere. This place is perfect if you are looking for a "cabin type" experience; and, it's the closest place to the park. We had a kitchenette room: unlike your urban kitchenette, they provide the pots, pans, and dishes. The ladies who work at the restaurant (and check you in after hours) are very nice. The restaurant is a little pricey; but, the food is good (especially the homemade desserts). A quiet getaway: no phones, no TV, no internet. My husband and I were late booking a camp site for Labor Day weekend in Lassen National Volcanic Park, and so we booked a tent campsite in nearby Mineral at the campsite/RV park run by the Mineral Lodge. When we arrived at the lodge, we found we needed to check in at the camp store, and we paid for our $18/night campsite. We drove to our campsite just down the road and found that there are only, literally, a handful of campsites. Our assigned site, C, was within sight of Highway 36. There were no fire rings at each campsite; there are only a couple of shared fire rings nearby. We opted to drive to Lassen and try our luck at a first-come first-serve campsite. Even at 1pm, we found a great site at the Southwest camp, and only paid $14/night. Our recommendation: head into Lassen National Volcanic Park and camp there rather than somewhere outside of the park. read more

I have a so-so review for this lodge and restaurant. We booked a room for one night and got in around 8pm just in time for dinner. Let me tell you this - after a day's trip the food served here was exceptionally great at a remote place like Mineral. The place was packed and its a family run business so few people serving you. Its quite understandable that the service is slow and takes about 20 mins to half hour from ordering to food arriving at the table. We ordered spaghetti and grilled chicken breast. The bread was fresh from the oven and soft. Their portions were big enough for one adult. Also they have a game room with pool table, some video game console, books, TV (this is the only TV all over the lodge). They let you borrow the books, board games coz there are no other entertainment. We grabbed couple of board games and had some time to kill in the spooky room. After dinner we got our keys and we were on the 24 to 29 block section. I kinda felt spooky inside the room. It was dark outside on the porch.. inside the room.. wooden walls, very small, one queen bed, two leather chairs (like those in scary haunted movies). They also have table with large checker board (carpet) game. No amenities like lotion, shampoo was kept. All I wanted was to sleep somehow and get out of here as soon as I can. In the morning, things looked different.. although the same spooky effects the room gave.. Breakfast service is even slower but completely acceptable given the holiday season. I would recommend this place for grabbing a bite but for staying... umm no! read more

We really enjoyed our stay because they were only a limited number of tent camping campgrounds so we never needed to fight for restroom or the free shower. Convenient to post office and groceries store, also easy booking from the website. We were camping at other campsites and had to pay booking fee and showers weren't free, so this was our best campsite during the trip. read more

Stayed Labor Day weekend and was pleasantly surprised. Had room 33. It was very clean. Definitely needs updating though. The bed was more firm than I liked but it was way better than camping!!! Cute little lodge within 10 miles from Lassen Volcanic Park. It's super close and surprisingly we could get a reservation for Labor Day weekend about a month before. It's clean and simple, but was a bit disappointed that the wifi only worked in common areas and was very slow. There's a heater in the room but no AC so had to depend on opening windows and using the fan to deal with the heat wave (usually not a problem but there was a heat wave when we visited). No TV in the room or signal for most carriers so if you're looking to be off the grid and relax this is the place to be. The restaurant in the lodge is amazing and very generous with the portions. I would recommend people to bring conditioner and lotion as the lodge only provided shampoo and soap. Generally very clean and housekeeping available daily. Overall highly recommend! read more

I hate to give a bad review to a family business but the "lodge" is kind of scary to stay in. Sorry to say but all the bad reviews say it all. Old crappy furniture in rooms, mold in the bath room (health hazard) bathroom floor fixed with duck tape, lamp plugged in to socket behind pillows of bed (fire hazard), outdoor lights that light the walk way weren't on at night (trip/lawsuit hazard), the whole place needs painting and outdated in general. Could be a cute place but obviously the owners dont want to spent money on the place. If i ever come back to the area, i would make the drive to the town of chester, a 45 minute drive from the park entrance and stay in a hotel there or stay at the camping cabins at manzanita lake. read more

This is a sweet little family run establishment, so be prepared for the owner's grandchildren to run through the restaurant playing, or dogs to be barking outside, or for your waitress to give you the real deal lowdown on what's good on the menu. We started with a sampler of fried stuff (jalapeno poppers, mozzarella sticks, mushrooms, and little "toothpicks" of jalapeno and onion). Yummy, but I was fry ODed; share with at least three other people if you don't want to feel sick. The kids meals were yummy - well, the corndog I was offered a slobbery bite of was anyway, and I was having pickle jealousy over the kids cheeseburger since my burger was pickleless; the few garlic fries I sampled were yummy, as was the buffalo burger I had. The BLT was not skimpy on the bacon and looked good. This is the kind of place where you can wander around and poke at things while you're waiting for your food and it's not weird. Press your face up against the windows to peer into the saloon (which is only open Saturday nights), check out the ancient photos, sit in the stuffed moose's lap and try to wrap his short arms around you only to find out that he can only reach far enough to grab your boobs, take photos of moose shenanigans, play pool or an ancient video game, sift through the "penny" candy which has cost more than a penny for a very long time. . . A nice little stop if you're exploring Lassen National Forest or driving through on Hwy 36. I can imagine that it's tough to make this place work (limited business, limited staffing, limited resources), but they really do try and I found everyone to be really sweet. read more

I though that something like this won't happen to me but found myself in a situation where the owners (woman and a man at the counter) pocketed my money that I've paid with for the merchandise, refused to provide a receipt, demanded that we would leave their property, and actually hinted that I should fear for my safety since the nearest sheriff is so far away that they won't even come out there. Who needs that bull when you are traveling to enjoy nature and beautiful Lassen Volcanic park? AVOID! read more

The location is perfect if you are going hiking in Lassen National Forest. The restaurant food was about a 3. It could have been better and it could have been worse. The staff is very friendly and seems to want to do a good job. Our room was clean. The price was good for the location. I give this hotel a 2 because the hotel is in a state of disrepair and they seem like they are short of staff to provide all of the services they advertise. The gift shop is closed, the saloon is only open on Saturday night, the restaurant only operates limited hours. They open at 8 for breakfast! The general store opens at 8 am and closes at 8 pm. If you are going to do any hiking nearby, you need to have everything together the day before so you can leave early enough to beat the heat and the crowds. The screens in our room had giant holes in them that the bugs could fly in. With no AC and 95+ heat, it is imperative to leave the window open at night. The showers are very narrow. I liked the family run atmosphere, but I can see how this could be done much better. read more

As long as you have reasonable expectations about what you'll experience here, your visit should be fine. If you're used to a big-city major-chain hotel and hope to find similar amenities here, you'll be disappointed. But if you simply want a clean, no-frills place to stay that's about a 10-minute drive to the entrance of Lassen Volcanic National Park, that's what you'll get. We stayed here while visiting Lassen. While it was sufficient for our needs, there were some things that left us with a bad impression. When we checked in, the owner repeatedly complained about some previous guests who had ripped them off... not very professional. The members of the family who own the place sometimes talked down about (or towards) the other staff, which we found disappointing. As pointed out in another post, there were children of the owners and staff running around during meals, coming up to everyone's table. While the food was just okay, the beer list was great. The facilities are in need of updating. I'm not talking about TV's: we're very happy to be away from them. I'm talking about things like having only one 2-plug outlet in our room, located behind the bed, and fully used, of course. Note the restaurant doesn't open for breakfast (or even just coffee) until 8:00, and there was no coffee maker in the room. So if you're an early riser in need of coffee, be forewarned. At the end of each day, I made an effort to stay in the national park as long as possible, to minimize the time I'd have to spend at the lodge. We won't be coming back here, unless it changes management. The location certainly has potential. read more

OMG, this place was a pit. Alright I realize that when you get off the beaten track accommodations can be sparse but come on. Room was really worn out. See pics. Registration experience started off with some guy grumbling as he walked out from the counter saying "Someone will help you in a second, I'm on a break", got the key to the room and went to throw bags down and take a quick shower after hiking all day in Lassen before heading out to dinner in Chester. Hmmm tried the shower for a while, no hot water. Oh well, figure I'll take one after dinner or the next day after hiking to Lassen Peak at sunrise. So after a questionable night of sleep (worse mattress in quite a awhile) got up early to hike to the top of Lassen Peak before Sunrise. Got back to Lodge (using that term loosely) , and surprise no hot water either. Wife mentioned she tried to take a shower earlier but couldn't get the water hot so gave up. Go to the café and hear multiple tables talking about no hot water. Classic for just under a $100 for a night not expecting an fancy place but, come on. Wife had the best line, "well it was better than sleeping outside w/o a tent in the dirt" Added pics, ripped upholstery on chairs in room, handles in shower falling apart, or exposed wood screws near sink to use as towel hooks (classy). Though the folks running the lodge are nice, the room we got was so filthy (bugs, webs, dust, you name it), the exposed wall/floor/etc in the bathroom were worse than a fixer-upper. I wouldn't stay there again even if I were paid what they had charged for the night. Just find lodging outside of the park. read more

Appreciative that they were able to accommodate us even though we rolled in a little late and were wandering around after 11pm trying to find our room. A young person sitting outside was kind enough to ask if we were looking for our rooms and pointed us in the right direction. The place is quaint, the walls are kind of thin. Yes, it's rustic, but clean and comfy. We just wanted a place to sleep and eat in the morning. Restaurant was friendly and food was filling. Typical 'Merican style breakfast, the kind I want when I've been eating salads and drinking fizzy water all week, so yeah. Works for me! I think I saw a boysenberry cobbler as one of their dessert specials. Although, I'm not a big dessert person, there were a lot of choices on the board. I'm probably going regret not trying them. Would not recommend this lodge if you hate country decor or need your TV. I enjoyed my stay and the change of pace. Would visit again. read more

This is a very cozy and family run lodge. If you need amenities like a tv, wi-fi, and air conditioning, then this isn't the place for you. The room was spacious and clean. The only thing I wish they would update is the window ledges and the heating system. The window ledges are aging and starting to fall apart. The heating system cover/grate runs along the bottom wall of the room and is full of dust. Otherwise, the room and bathroom are very clean. There are nice complimentary bath products too. The restaurant next door is excellent for breakfast and dinner. If you need a place to stay near Lassen National Park, this is a good pick! read more

This place used to be good but lately, 2016, it's really slipped. Cold fries, stale sandwich bread they really need to do better. We like to stop for lunch when we cross HW 36 we have never used their lodging. It seem like the prices went up with the minimum wage increase but quality went down.
