Mixed bag for sure. This review covers two separate visits. One on a Monday evening while headed to Oregon One the following Friday while heading back south. It IS a brewery....the beers ( West Coast IPA, Hazy IPA) were pretty darned good, on both visits, left Untapped ratings of 4.25 for the Electric Oats and the Greengate. Tasty. Now the other stuff. On the Monday visit they decided that they were going to do a "Hard Close" at 7pm (even though hours listed show closing at 9pm) Beer-tenders were cool and made sure to tell me that I had plenty of time when I walked in at 7pm. Still, part of running a business is commitment to your customers, even if they aren't all there on a Monday night. Part of running the business. I did at least get to try the awesome burrito trucks offering. Such a good deal and meal. Returned on Friday (tonight) to have a burrito and a beer. Bummer that burrito dude wasn't here. But the other food truck was here. But they were out of everything except Salmon at 7pm. Not the breweries fault but....still. Luckily, the beer was still good. And the beer tenders recommended so good eats near by. Overall a bit disappointing in how the place is run. But they obviously know how to make beer and hire cool employees. read more

If you are a fan of porters, then pull up a chair at Secret Trail Brewing because they've got quite the lineup and you're going to enjoy it. After finishing an awesome backpacking trip near Red Bluff I was craving a cold beer. For some reason breweries in Red Bluff don't like to be open on Sunday so we drove south to Chico and jumped right in on a pair of flights. This is Baltic porter paradise! Seriously, there were around 5 on the menu when I stopped in. Everything I tried was tasty but the darks are the standout here and I am all about it. Especially when they put it on Nitro. Easy decision. Raspberry Choconut Baltic Porter? You don't have to even ask me - I'm there. The place is dog-friendly inside and out, has a huge patio area, and even had good live music! Remember what live music sounds like? Exactly. Almost brought a tear to my eye. Huge plus in my book. Bonus for the Gnarly Deli food truck set up out front with a solid vegan sammy option. Lots of spaced-apart outdoor seating options in an open-air arrangement. No ventilation-confining tenting. This place was a real treat to check out after a weekend of backpacking near Lassen. The staff pulling the brews behind the counter were cheerful and helpful with suggesting brews to include in a 4 beer taster flight for $10. They had a baltic porter, a baltic porter on nitro, and a baltic porter finished in a bourbon barrel. There was an excellent Kolsch-style summer ale. There was also a Mai Bock, a cherry-chocolate, and a half-cider/half beer "Rye-d" selection. I did not try the hazy, because I'd already picked 4 others for my tasting this day. The food truck was serving food that looked temptingly tasty (it was). I had the Thai Nachos with pork larb sausage. My beer companion was happy to find that there was a Vegan option for her. We were both quite hungry and thirsty what with the exercise and warm weather. We ordered food and were given a paging buzzer to alert when the food was ready for pick-up. We could grad a table and beers while the food was being readied. I'm happy to report that the facilities, dining space, beer, and food were all very satisfactory in every respect. Lucky us, some live music also was provided, which was really quite a nice cherry on top of the experience. I will definitely return here the next time i am in the area! read more

We came here while visiting friends in Chico, & this place was a hit! We stumbled upon the five year anniversary celebration for the brewery, so we bought a tumbler plus a pour for $20. On this day, there were lots of dogs & kids, fun for the whole family. There were two open tap rooms in the same building from which you could purchase your brews, but my friend who comes often said that typically, only one is open. There was live music, a clown with balloons for the kids, lots of outdoor seating, food trucks, etc. I got the Apricot Wheat ale which was very juicy & light. My bf got the Vienna Lager (I don't remember the name) which was refreshing & had a light taste as well. All in all, the gentleman who poured our drinks had good recommendations & was kind. Love this little off the beaten path brewery. The beer choices are great. From a double IPA to a lager. I did the beer flight of IPA's and I had to admit I enjoyed all my selections. Time to relax with a beer. Atmosphere - Located at the end of an industrial building. Some outdoor seating with overhead space heaters that where running on this chilly night. The big garage door was open and the bar was cold, to the point it was uncomfortable inside. As we left I felt the temp at the picnic tables was warmer than inside because of the space heaters. The place is small and holds less than 100 people inside, Drinks - I had a pint of their hazy IPA on tap, Greengate. A nice juicy IPA with a little bite of tartness at the end. I really enjoyed the beer. They have a wide variety of beers, hopefully you can find one you like. Service - Outside of the line for the register and one person working the bar when we arrive the service was good. Another bar tender arrived and the time started to move. One thing I like to do when traveling is fine local breweries. I had looked this up long before my trip and was definitely excited to check him out. I did a flight of four beers Which I highly enjoyed. My most favorite was the peanut butter porter. They also have growlers and howlers for sale and I picked up a howler which was easy to travel home with. One of the cool things about this place is they have a different food truck every single day. I didn't check the one out that was there when I was there but I just thought it was cool that they always have a food option. Also they are a dog friendly brewery which I think is great and they also have trivia night. They even have live music some nights. This was a small space but I definitely enjoyed it. I love this newer addition to Chico's beer scene. They have some delicious brews on tap, friendly bartenders, and a comfortable space. I love that they have rotating food trucks to provide variety and support the food truck community. They also bring in some great musicians for live music shows. For groups they have plenty of seating we well as board games and trivia nights. As for the beer - try the Nitro Bout it Bout it or the berliner weiss - Zephyr Weisse. Great place! read more

We took some friends here on Saturday night and enjoyed multiple flights of beers. This is the best way to go as you can try multiple tastings before deciding on your pint. The people behind the bar were incredibly friendly, polite, and efficient. The place was clean, including the bathroom. The particular food truck that was there had ran out of pizzas and other products, which was kind of disappointing as it was early in the evening. But I can't really hold that against the brewing as they are not really connected. We will certainly return. read more

Such a mellow, cool spot to stop for a beer on a hot afternoon. I love their flights, and how they have indoor and outdoor seating. They have nice tanks that are pretty good quality compared to some of the very thin/non-hemmed tanks that other breweries have. So my fiancee and I went to ST tonight and they are having a special event. I wanted to fill my ST growler not knowing about their event.
